I came here for lunch with a friend yesterday and did not leave satisfied, in fact I left the restaurant feeling disgusted. I ordered phở(large number 1) and while I was eating I found HAIR in my phở. Other than that the customer service isn’t so great either, they barely check on you and sometimes you literally have to raise your hand to get their attention. After I got their attention, they offered to take it off my bill or get me another bowl and of course, I decided to take it off my bill. I’ve been to other restaurants in Davis that are way more busier who provide excellent customer service. I wish there were other phở restaurants in Davis. Unfortunately, there is only Phở King 4 to go to if you’re craving Vietnamese food. Next time I’m craving phở, I rather drive more to a restaurant that is cleaner and offers proper customer service.

I think people are a little too critical of this place. I like it! It’s now the only phở place in Davis, so I find myself here often after a night of drinking. The prices are very affordable, and the servings are large. Their phở, spring rolls, vermicelli dishes, and soups are all tasty. I just recently tried the beef stew soup! It’s my new favorite there!

Though not the best phở place you’ll visit, King 4 still has decent Viet food when you’re craving phở or bun bo hue. It is the only place in town that serves Vietnamese food as far as I know, and they haven’t disappointed me once for every time i’ve been here. Phở tastes as it should with plenty of veggies and noodles. Bun bo hue, while not as flavorful as i’m used to, is still very good! If you aren’t in the mood for soup, the orange chicken or walnut shrimp are both great options(though they aren’t really Vietnamese food…). The drinks here are good as well such as the Vietnamese iced coffee and lemon salt soda. As for service, they are very accommodating and we have never had to wait too long for our food to arrive or to be seated. You pay at the front once you are done eating, so no need to wait for the check. Overall, love this place and will most likely be back soon!

I honestly don’t understand the point of being horribly articulate and nit picky, especially since this is the only phở place in Davis. I can say that overall, the quality of the food is good and of all the times I have visited, I have had no problem. They do get busy at times and service may take a little longer. However, it is important to note that all you need to do is just get a waiter’s attention and they will be happy to help. I’ve gone during their busy hours and yes, service is a bit slower, but waiters will always be willing to help once you INITIATE and ask. I’ve had an encounter recently where my to-go food was incorrectly given to me and I didnt realize it until I got home. I came back the next day to tell them and I was given the correct order with no hassle at all. So overall, the phở is generic, but it fits all the requirements, so this is surely the place to go(if youre not overly finicky about service). I’ll be sure to come back again soon(:

Given that I’m from the bay area where there are delicious phở places at every corner, I know I’m walking in here with not-so-high expectations. Still, with the mediocre mindset coming in, this place still disappoints me. I usually get a small #1 or a small #18. More often than not, I find the soup(for both) not very hot. The noodles take like rubber sometimes and gets hard to eat. In those rare times, though, they make it decently okay. But like I said, rare times. Sometimes, when I’m in a hurry, I like to order their sandwiches. It’s definitely not top-notch, but it’s a good grab-n-go food. I recommend the Grilled-pork sandwich. Despite my dislike for this place, this is the only phở place in Davis so I will still come here once in a while for my handover meals after a good night out.

Been here maybe 2 times in 3 years of living at Davis because it’s just not a place that’ll make you want to go back. Of course, being about the only phở place in Davis, when you get that phở craving, you just have no choice. It’ll do in a pinch if you really just need some phở. Décor and cleanliness are your typical poorly-kept phở place, nothing to talk about at all. Taste of the phở is all right. At least it tastes like phở, though not the best. The shrimp rice wrapper rolls are pretty bland, even when dipped in its sauce. I ordered delivery once and while they package your food nicely, I was a little disturbed that they literally left the meat raw in a wrapper on top of my noodles. While normally putting raw meat in your hot broth at a restaurant is okay, delivering it separate from the broth and raw is gross. The broth won’t nearly be hot enough to cook your beef, so I had to take out a pot myself to recook everything, which kinda defeats the purpose of a delivery. Also, when I ordered delivery through Unilocal,I paid a delivery fee which I thought was considered tip. However, even if it is NOT tip, the way the old guy who brought me my food hounded me for tip is not cool. He followed me into my apartment and kept asking me for tip and when I told him that I had paid a delivery fee and had no cash on me anyways, he gave me this really upset look and left. Like, okay, I know it’s hard. You’re old and delivering food to college kids in the winter cold. I do feel bad. But don’t act so unprofessional at the same time… I’d have honestly given this place 2 stars, but I still have sympathy because you’re an old guy trying to feed his family so I’ll make it 3. Now we can call it even.

If I can put 0 stars I will put double 00. Service sucks! Servers don’t even know how to smile and they look like they don’t care! Foods are not even hot and what’s more disgusting is I found hair on my soup. Gross!

I came here again just cuz this is the only phở place in Davis. I didn’t wanna drive all the way to sac. Phở: It was okay nothing special. Not tasty enough to me. Fried rolls: same nothing special. The rolls weren’t that warm. Taste like frozen food to me. Service: I never like the service from this place. The dude who took my order just walk away while I was talking. Here is my point of view, I’m assuming that many of the employees are students and prob don’t have experience working as servers(nothing wrong with that), but the problem is either manager/supervisor didn’t even train them well enough or the stuff just doesn’t care about service. There r 2 types of employees, one is the one who just care about the paycheck, and second is the one who actually like the job and wanna do the work, so you know. I’m a waiter at a nice high class Italian restaurant, so Ik how good service is and give the right service. My suggestion: Don’t expect anything from the service and much from the food. Their food is just okay, but hey it’s the only phở place in Davis so I guess we all gotta deal with it unless you wanna drive all the way to sacramento.

This is the only phở place that exist in Davis unfortunately. So desperate times call for desperate measure when you’re craving a hot bowl of phở in the winter. Before anything, I do want to express my appreciation for this place for serving phở in Davis. Here goes, Their phở is very generic, it taste like how most phở should be. Though. Their price is off the roof! A generic bowl of phở would cost me $ 6 or $ 7 max. They charge almost $ 9 here and their portion is not even that big. My recommended bowls are: * Combination * Beef Balls * Bun rieu This place is conveniently located next to UCD Campus, nice for students who walk but parking can be a little tricky for those who drive. Street parking are always available, but the parking by Phở King is only an hour limit. So park farther and walk a little! Cheersn

Like all the reviews have said, Phở King is the only phở place in Davis, and it suffices when you’re sick or are just craving a bowl of phở. Service is quick when it comes to being seated, but one time our waitress kept on walking past me and my party who were trying to flag her and tell her we were ready to order 10 minutes ago. My go to is always the #6 and the small is HUGE so don’t doubt it’s size. I’m definitely more of a noodle person over broth, so I always finish my phở wishing they added more noodles and meat. It’s a decent place for phở, but don’t come here expecting your taste buds to be blown away.

Was craving some phở in Davis and came cross phở King! The location is Sacramento is pretty popular so I had some high hopes for the Davis one! Not impressive at all! First, the place isn’t the cleanest! They had the dirty dish cart behind where I was sitting and that is soooo gross! Second, you can see the kitchen and it did not seem clean at all… Looked gross and not sanitary! Third, the service was below average… We were greeted nicely and when we were seated, it took a while for us to even order! I had to ask the employee to order! Speaking of employees, they don’t dress impressive and you wouldn’t know they even worked here! As for the food, I ordered the phở tai with the meat on the side! The broth was pretty good… Slightly blend but pretty good! There wasn’t much meat which was disappointing… And they put cilantro when I said hold it! Overall… I probably wouldn’t go back…

Phở #4 please! I love phở and this place makes BOMB.COM phở. Sometimes I like to swap out the noodles for extra veggies, which tastes super delicious. Their combo spring rolls are also super yummy. The location is prime location, especially for UCDavis students, since its literally maybe a block away for campus. Its always super busy but I have never had to wait for seating! They are usually pretty good about getting you seated right away! They also deliver, never used the service but thats a plus! :)

It’s really the only phở place in Davis, but it’s decent enough for me to be a regular if I want to grab phở real quick. The service is pretty fluid: they’ll have you seated real quick and have your meals out in a decent amount of time. For their phở, I would say that the phở bowls don’t leave much to the imagination. There will be your rice noodles, some white onions(although not much of it), some green onions, and your choice of meat that you ordered. I would definitely prefer more onions in my phở, but it satisfies my phở cravings. I came by two weeks ago and jackfruit was not available at that time for smoothies. Honeydew smoothies are good though! Also, you can’t go wrong with avocado smoothies.

The ground floor was full so they brought us to the second floor and forgot about us for 20+ minutes. We had to go downstairs to have them take our order. When they gave us water, the cup was only half full… The food is decent but not spectacular. Service is clearly subpar, so definitely would not recommend for viet food in downtown Davis.

My boyfriend loves Phở King… it’s kinda embarrassing because every time I ask where he wants to eat he says Phở King. Yikes. However, it’s pretty much the only phở in Davis, so it definitely satisfies those phở cravings. I know what good phở is, and I know that Phở King isn’t really good, but it’s good enough for those times where you really just NEED phở. Pros: + Good variety of things on the menu. They don’t just have phở, they have rice places and other asian dishes. + Always seated quickly and food comes out fast + Good enough phở that will satisfy your craving until you go home and get the real stuff + What I recommend: number 9 phở, steak and well-done flank. Ask for the steak on the side so you can cook it in the hot broth when your food comes! It’ll be softer instead of being overcooked and tough. Cons: It’s pretty dirty. I always wipe down my utensils here, and sometimes I have to go through the whole stack of spoons before I find one that doesn’t look like it has a disgusting yellow/brown stain on it. — Pricey, in my opinion — Water is pretty gross, which sucks because I can’t eat phở without sriracha — Not much parking — Once, there was a cockroach circling our table and we told the staff about it. They then killed the cockroach and left it in the corner… didn’t clean it up or anything. But rather they just put one napkin on top of it??? What??? Overall: If you’re craving phở and don’t have a car to go to Sac, Phở King will get the job done.

For being the only phở in Davis, it’s not bad. Let me first just clarify that if you’re looking for a phở review, this one won’t be for you. What I LOVE here more than anything is number 42! Grilled lemongrass chicken over rice with an egg roll. Can I just say holla for those Vietnamese rice dishes. It’s literally the reason why I go here. When I say ‘let’s get phở’, I actually mean, ‘let’s get chicken’. But actually, who else memorizes the numbers of the dishes they like… 4 cause Phở King 42

I came here today(8÷12÷15) a few minutes after they opened and left with quite a phở-king experience. The problem(0⁄5): Ok, here’s some extra detail to give you the full picture: I was sitting at a table by myself staring out of the window to their outdoor seating area. A couple came in after me and happens to sit outside across from me, so I was making eye contact with the gentleman a few times, the door was also open(the door was right next to me). The story: A little after I got my food I heard screaming from the kitchen area. It sounded like 2 men were arguing, they were arguing so loud that the couple outside turned to see what was the problem. The guy mouths to me «what are they saying?»(the workers were arguing in Viet) and I mouthed back«I don’t know». Pause, I would like to say that just because I’m Asian doesn’t mean I speak all the Asian languages, unpause. One man storms out of the kitchen and then I proceed to hear the other man and a woman arguing. They eventually stop but dang did it really set my experience in stone. The phở(2⁄5): I ordered a large chicken phở(number 14 I believe) and when it came I was hit with the smell of cinnamon! I know there’s clovers and such in the soup, and I’ve had phở before, but never have I ever smelled cinnamon from my broth. How fun. What wasn’t fun though was the tiny bit of bean sprouts, limes, etc. that they give you – this place also doesn’t give you cilantro on the side and the little bit that is in the soup is laughable. I only got ONE slice of lime! I did ask for more and the waitress brought me another plate of items, added together it was roughly the amount I’m used to from phở places. The broth was just alright, I’ve had much better but I’ve also had a little worse. I ended up having to add fish sauce and sriracha INTO the soup to make it taste better – but once again, I’ve had worse. The chicken that came with the soup was the worst! It was super tough and I didn’t get any dark meat pieces, I ended up leaving over half of the meat in my bowl because I was sick of eating it. Also, the chicken came in shredded pieces rather than slices that I’m normally used to from phở places. The sandwich(2.5÷5): I bought a pork bbq viet sandwich because I knew I would be in the library all day(study break!) and wanted something to eat later on. It cost me 4.5 $ and is one of the most dried up sandwiches I’ve ever had. The bread is hard, they didn’t put jalapenos inside my sandwich & there’s just a lack of veg/picked items in general. BOOOO Service(3.5÷5): There was only one female waitress when I went in today, and there was only about 3 tables worth of people so it definitely wasn’t busy. She did everything that I expect a waitress to do, not rude and was fairly quick when it came to bringing me my water and such. One thing though, she never refilled my water and didn’t check up on me after the food came.

You have 2 major choices for Vietnamese restaurants at Davis: Sunset Restaurant and Phở King 4. People tend to pick Phở King more simply because it’s so closed to campus. A few minutes walk and you get a decently priced bowl of phở. Location(4⁄5): The restaurant locates behind the Social Sciences Building and the bookstore outside of the university. There are not many parking spaces around. You either have to find street parkings nearby or walk here. Since the restaurant is right at the corner, you can easily find it. Service(3⁄5): Since most of the waiters and cashiers are colleges students from Davis, the service fluctuates between one’s working experience and knowledge about Vietnamese food. Sometimes I would get such an authentic feeling eating here. Sometimes, the fact the waiters mispronounce Vietnamese food, my people’s food… Food(3⁄5): Food is mediocre comparing to Vietnamese food in Sacramento and other Phở King branches. However, they are my best option at Davis. For days when I miss Vietnamese home cooking and flavors, their food is the closest thing that would make me happy. I usually come for their phở, egg noodles and bun bo hue. Although their flavors are still in the bland side, these seem to be the best dishes in their menu.
