I’ve enjoyed two delicious meals here since moving to Davis. They have really good flavor on the carne asada and the pollo. I’ve had tacos both times and was pleased. Friendly cashier, quick on the food. The chips aren’t too greasy and the salsa is pretty tasty!

The food at this restaurant is good, but the service is slow and inefficient. This evening, I had to track down an employee(not working at the register, who did not seem to care about customers) to go and get my food. I waited for almost an hour to get a couple of tacos, an order of chile colorado, and posole. What is more frustrating is that customers who came in 30 minutes after I did received their food before I did. I understand that some dishes may be ready before others, however; this does not excuse the long wait time. In sum, the food is good, but please be aware that the staff may overlook orders.

I had dinner here last night. I ordered a cheese enchilada plate. It was nearly 10.00. The guacamole was awful. It must have come from a package. It was bright green smooth salty slop! Not Guacamole! It is June and avocados are in season here in California. Why is it that a Mexican restaurant can’t serve fresh avocado in June in Davis? Not eating here again. Just buy a Swanson’s TV dinner instead. It’s cheaper and you won’t know the difference.

Let me start by saying there isn’t really great Mexican food in Davis but this place isn’t bad. Most days the tortilla chips are fresh and crispy. I like the medium and spicy salsas a lot. I usually order the asada tacos. I like the way the beef is prepared which has nice caramelization without being overdone. The rice is pretty good as are the beans. I don’t order much else so can’t comment. The place is clean and can accommodate a group. The service is friendly and fast. Definitely my go to place for tacos.

El Burrito used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant in Davis. My two go to meals were the carnitas plate and the Ranchero steak. Both have lost their luster in recent visits. The salsa used to be super delicious, but that too has changed in flavor and is pretty forgettable at this point, and it’s not like they had a super robust selection anyway. Yesterday I attended a graduation party with food from Burrito and was pretty underwhelmed. I’m forgiving the dry aspect of the food since it was sitting out, but the flavors were absent in the asada. As in not present. My wife said it seemed like it was boiled beef. The chicken was OK. The host ended up giving us a lot of leftover asada which I will convert to fajitas so I can infuse some flavor. Come on Burrito, you used to be better than this. There are so many decent, and a few great Mexican restaurants in Davis, and you’re falling behind in the pack.

This place has been an all time favorite my first couple years of living here in Davis BUT they have just been losing their magic! Their tortilla chips are just too stale and the salsas are watered down. The ladies at the cash register just seem lifeless too! They don’t really make you feel welcomed and never look you in the face when your ordering. I have had orders misinterpreted and have had to get, for example, a different burrito cause I asked for no onions but they still put onions. Food is still decent but the other Mexican Restaraunt, La Piñata, offers better quality service and authentic Mexican food. People only come here because of its late night hours and location next to the bars.

Decent Mexican food but definitely nowhere near how good people say it is. I usually only go when friends want to go. That being said I usually order a burrito. They’re decent and, like it’s standard of any other place, the tortillas are always half-way cooked and rubbery so I make sure to tell them to cook them through until they’re slightly crispy. Makes the burrito less likely to fall apart. Recently I ordered the seafood soup and, although it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t what I was expecting. I don’t know if it’s a NorCal thing, or maybe where they’re from, but I’ve never seen people add cauliflower and even less broccoli to a soup like that. I’m my opinion their salsa bar is the best thing they have. The different selection of salsas and other options like the nopales make the visit at least somewhat worth it.

I have been to this place several times and loved it, but the last 2 times they have been inconsistent giving me extremely bad service. The second to last time I came, my fiancé and I had ordered two shrimp burritos with no vegetables because my fiancé has an allergy. We drove home to Sacramento only to find that both burritos came with it. We called to tell them, and were told that we can come back for new burritos and a refund. We drove back and were told by the manager that one of the casheirs was«mistaken» and did not have the authority to make that call. We also said«no vegentables», not salsa, so we still had onions and bell peppers in it. I drove over 30 miles just to leave with food we could no eat. I decided to give this place another try because I loved it several times before. This time, I made sure that they did not add salsa/vegetables in my burrito. Again, my burrito contained onions and bell peppers. I notified the lady right away. She called a woman in light blue, named Natalie. I told her all my concerns, and she asked me to show the receipt. The receipt did not stare anything, so she walked away immediately after. I was so irritated and embarassed, so I began to hand pick the vegetables myself. Later, another waitress asked me if everything was ok. I told her I was going to leave a terrible review because of how Natalie treated me, as well as the the failure to make my order right. She returned with the SAME woman that took my order the last time I was there. She told me that I have to clarify between salsa and vegetables… I’m absolutely done with this place.

I had a really really bad experience here. This is the first 1 star review I have left in years. I was delivered the wrong dish, then accused of trying to get a more expensive dish than I had paid for. I was with a bunch of people and super humiliated. The waitress told me «show me your receipt». So I just paid the difference as to not cause any more trouble. In the end, they realized they had indeed made the mistake, not me. The manager/owner came over to me and slammed my excess change on the table and said«it was HER fault» referring to the waitress. To top it off the food was pretty bad. It was not worth the stress and rudeness and being embarrassed in front of friends.

I used to be a regular at this place but after my most recent experience I’ll never come back. Ordered a veggie burrito over the phone. When I got there, it was a wet burrito. I told the server that wasn’t what I wanted. She insisted that she had read the order back to me and I confirmed its what I wanted. I felt intimidated and I thought she was going to make me take the burrito I didn’t want. I’m hard of hearing so it’s very hard when people are aggressive towards me because I misheard something. She ended up making the burrito again and I felt like I had to apologize. After I walked out and bit in, I realized I had gotten a carne asada burrito, not a veggie burrito. It was a terrible, humiliating experience and I won’t ever come back.

El Burrito seems to be THE place for Mexican food, I’ve been here about 7 times all ready and it just hasn’t been an up and up experience every time. Pretty sure 90% of my visits have been their carne asada tacos and the meat is usually inconsistent. Sometimes its a different color, usually its pretty dry and most of the time it lacks any kind of flavor. Sure, theres the sauce that they drench it in, but the meat itself needs to be a little seasoned at least. The food isn’t that hot when it gets served either and I love having food that is hot or at least above room temperature. Prices are fair, about 2.20 for regular tacos. Happy Hour is the best time to go of course, I think its 3 – 5? I always forget. I usually get their carne asada nachos since its only $ 4 or so during those times. Service lacks enthusiasm of course. Best part of this place is the spacious seating inside and the salsa + chip bar, of course its complimentary if you order food. They also have fresh squeeze orange juice as well, yummy! Although they bring you your food to your table and clean up your plates as you’re finishing or after you leave. Their concept seems to circle around self service which I love! Meaning you order and pay, find yourself a table and you grab what salsas you want and condiments. Also, they conveniently have the togo boxes in the front for easy access instead of trying to flag down a server or go up and ask them for it. Overall, I think I’m done coming here. I really love Taqueria Davis, more flavor and the service is super sweet and friendly, even if seating is limited during peak hours and parking is small.

Happy Hour! Basically what I like to eat from here is on their Happy Hour special so nowadays, that’s the only time I come. My girlfriend loves their carne asada fries and I usually like their lengua(beef tongue) meat. On this visit, we ordered the carne asada fries and a lengua torta. Both where of pretty good size. Everything else is self served — waters, chips, sauces, etc. The torta was pretty good and was covered in cheese. The bun was toasted and was crispy. There wasn’t that much lengua inside the torta but it was still decent. My girlfriend and I ended up becoming somewhat full from this. We then started to eat the carne asada fries. Did I mention it was huge? It came with lots of fries, cheese, and a good amount of meat. It also comes with a strip of guac, crema and pico de gallo. It was good and that’s what we usually get. We also like their green sauce and white sauce. I don’t know what they’re called but it’s good and we like it. They replaced their pico de gallo with salsa. I enjoyed it more when it was pico de gallo out in the sauce bar as I’m not a big of their salsa.

Before La Piñata, this was my go to Mexican place in Davis. I decided to revisit this place and I’m regretting it. This place is just not good in comparison to La Piñata and not good in general. Maybe I’m being a bit harsh. The food is decent but it’s just so salty and boring! The chips are salty, the salsa was flavorless, and the tacos I had were really dry and salty. The service is alright, the people I’ve interacted with are friendly when I order and pay but that’s it. Prices are your average prices. Nothing overly expensive but not cheap. Their food is not that bad, very average. I’ve tried their burritos, tacos, and carne asada fries but nothing stands out to me. Only good thing was their beans and rice. But how hard is it to mess that up? Sorry El Burrito, I don’t think I’ll be back.

This be the place to hit up after a night of bar hopping on a Thursday night in Downtown Davis. The atmosphere is so chill. And you can end the night with an order of their bomb ass margarita. Yes, i’m telling you to end the night with more drinking hahaha. Well, if you’re the tequila kind of person you will love their margarita! Their carne asada fries are also bomb! Even when sober. I don’t know about their burritos and other food though. Never had them here. Chips are self-serve with sauces.

My friends and I came in the night after a football game at Davis to get some good ol’ Mexican food: there were SO many people! In lines to order food, outside lines to wait for food, and filling all the tables were SOMANYPEOPLE! When we finally got the the front of the line and finished ordering, the wait was very short and due to my eagle like vision(when I wear my glasses), we managed to snag a table to sit down at. I got myself a taco salad while my friends got the pollo chilli verde and other goodies. Taco exterior on the taco salad was hearty, not too oily(I know that stuff is fried!), and went really well with what was on the inside. It worked in filling me up! BUT, if its your first time here… and you can handle spices that build up… you HAVE. to get the Chili. Verde. It was SODELICIOUS! I would have definitely eaten more if my tongue was much more spicy-tolerant, alas– nature is unfair, and I am a spice wimp. Since a soccer match was on, the vibes of this place was so lively and rambunctious! I loved it! But it did startle me sometimes mid-bite from the sudden yelling of many of the customers.

I used to frequent this spot as a UC Davis student and have made a couple of stops here after graduating(on picnic day and while visiting friends). While I’ve only really tried the nachos(the portion size is huge so I recommend sharing this with a couple of other people), I find it to be really yummy. I’ve had friends try the burrito and quesadilla, and they really enjoyed those as well. I did have a margarita during picnic day(which was huge, I’m used to smaller margaritas). However, this could be a good thing for some people.

Got the drunchies? Need a midnight snack? This is the place to go. Their food is decent and the prices are cheap. Your drunk/sleepy cravings will be fulfilled. However, if you are in a clearheaded going into here, you might be less satisfied with your experience. I have had the Steak Tacos, Steak Chimichanga, Carne Asada Fries, Steak and Chicken Enchiladas, and Chicken Burrito here(not all in the same visit). They are all decent, but have never been the best Mexican food I have ever had. The chimichanga is my favorite out of all of them, because they usually are able to get a really great crust out of the fried tortilla and the cheese inside melts really nicely. Unfortunately, there have been multiple instances where they have made me the completely wrong order. The first time it happened, I was completely disillusioned and could not send the plate back because I would have felt horrible about wasting so much food. The next two times, I had to send the plates back because I was sharing with a vegetarian friend and the orders showed up with meat. While I do think this is the best option for Mexican food in Davis, I am usually not too impressed with their service and quality. That said, they do have a tremendous advantage in being open late, so I’m always down to go here after a night downtown.

I wouldn’t return without plans to meet someone there. Basically, I wouldn’t return of my own accord. Nothing jumped out and said ‘come back.‘ Chimichanga was decent, but nothing I’d want on a regular basis. Good salsa selection and complimentary chips. That’s about it.
