We used to order from this place years ago. We thought that since it was still in business, that it must still be good. WRONG! We had to throw $ 30.00 worth of food in the trash. It was gross, awful. We were afraid of becoming ill. Do not waste your money. Egg rolls nothing but grease, chicken fried rice was like a two week old glue base. Soup nasty too.

I used to go to chop suey carry out with my mother when I was little, but I haven’t been back in twenty five years. Walking in it looks exactly the same as it did. I ordered egg rolls, fried rice, and kung pao chicken and was pleasantly surprised. The food was finished quickly, it was still hot when I got it home, and was very tasty. The egg rolls had a little too much cabbage but the kung pao chicken was not what I was expecting. I keep trying to find authentic kung pao chicken in dayton and haven’t been successful. A lot of chinese restaurants serve gummy bland chicken with a lot of vegetables but this had a ton of chicken and peanuts and a thick spicy sauce. It wasn’t authentic but it was still good. Honestly this place will probably replace my go to local chinese take out. The only other minus was a small menu.

This is by far my family’s favorite carryout. In fact, it is the only chinese carryout my children will accept. I’ve been coming here for almost 40 years, since I was a small child. I love trying out trendy new restaurants and hip little diners but there is something incredibly comforting about walking in here. Just as the décor has changed very little over the past four decades, neither has the extensive menu, friendly service and quality preparation. We’ve tried almost everything on the menu over the years and it’s all been delicious, but the one thing we always get is vegetable tempura. There is an unwritten rule that one does not return from a trip to Chop Suey without veggie tempura. My daughter, who is a very picky eater loves the beef with broccoli because they allow me to order it as «just beef and broccoli — no other veggies». In fact everything is made fresh and the kitchen is completely visible behind the ordering counter. If you go for a sweet and sour dish, I recommend asking for the sauce on the side, especially if you’re going to reheat it later. To be clear this is not healthy Chinese food. Another reviewer mentioned the grease, and yes, many of the dishes are fried. When I was really watching my calories I would order steamed veggies with sauce on the side. But now I just see Chop Suey as a random middle of the week splurge when mom is too tired to cook.

Best Chinese food in dayton. They use white meat for most of their dishes and cook everything fresh. Don’t let the outdated look fool you. They are very very clean!

By far the best Chinese food not only in Dayton but anywhere I have been. Don’t let the hole in the wall, old décor fool you. The food is absolutely amazing. Be sure to order their home made egg rolls specifically or you will get the new ones which aren’t great. My suggestions are the chicken lo mein, beef fried rice, vegetable egg foo young, chicken with snow peas and sweet and sour chicken. You will not be sorry!

Just one thing shines here Really, one ingredient. The problem? It’s grease.

One of our favorite places in Kettering! Fantastic food, their General Tao’s rocks. Ask for the original egg roll. We’ve been going there for many years and I really don’t ever recall them having corn in their egg drop soup.

Disappointed. I’ve been here a good handful of times since I was little for the egg drop soup. It was always the best I could find; rich, yellow, pieces of corn, and thick. Unfortunately, when I went today it was both far from the egg drop soup I had had there in the past, as well as anywhere else. It appeared to be light chicken stock, vegetables, and egg. Simply, it was gross. I even double checked to make sure they had given me the right soup. We also ordered wonton soup. The stock could have been water, and the wontons were soggy and bland. The egg rolls tasted like they were fried at a fair and lacked filling. The Szechwan chicken, not awful, just luke warm which was polar the scolding hot soups. Clearly, I do not recommend.

So this is amazingly a really good Chinese place! They do both sit down and carry out. The later is what i experienced. A friend recommended that we call ahead and get take out from there after we picked up a movie. So I took a look at the menu she had and I was really surprised by the options they had! Plenty of sides, and pork, chicken, beef, seafood, vegetarian, just an abundance of everything! We ordered the combination lo mien(which had everything listed above in it) and some normal chicken with broccoli. The lo mien was excellent! so much of everything! I had never heard of a place having combo lo mien before, but this didn’t disappoint in the least. The broccoli chicken left a little to be desired, as they used the lighter clear sauce, and i prefer the darker more soy based sauce but it wasn’t horrible! Overall a great little place to order take out from!

Let me start by saying this: I love Asian food. Asian food, for the most part, allows me a lot of veggie options that are not always available to me when I’m not eating seafood, etc. HOWEVER, when someone is vegetarian or orders a vegetarian dish, they are not simply looking for lack of beef, chicken, fish, etc. They are looking for VEGetarian food, i.e. food with vegetables. Unfortunately, it seems that there is either 1) a shortage of vegetables in the area that I’m not aware of or 2) Chop Suey carry out assumes that vegetarian dishes simply don’t have meat in them or anything else for that matter. For example, last night we ordered veggie fried rice and veggie lo mein — both were almost completely devoid of vegetables with the exception of cabbage and some onion. I love rice and noodles — but I didn’t pay 8 bucks for noodles and soy sauce. Now — I know there is no shortage of vegetables due to the fact that other dishes contained pea pods, green peppers, etc. etc. So…I must assume that they simply assume that the veggie folks are all«cheese pizza and doritos» vegetarians. Not so, and until they learn otherwise I will not return.
