The Pony Espresso

Great and diverse selection of drinks, as well as, a convenient drive thru!!! They have everything from; espresso, blended drinks, teas and even redouble. It is a beautiful establishment and friendly staff. This is a great local business that I will be returning to quite frequently and I highly recommend to everyone!

The coffee drinks are decent, But your enjoying an extension of someone else’s persona. The Roasting House in Virginia City is a nice little coffee shop up the hill but Pony Espresso doesn’t have a signature flavor profile because its from the Roasting House. They have a single bean espresso which brings the flavor profile to a single roast flavor. Its good enough to enjoy but it is disappointing that there was not much thought put into the espresso signature. By using a blend of a light roast mid roast and a decaf or dark roast would open the potential for a very tasty and unique flavor profile and it would be their flavor to keep! Yes I am a coffee snob but if you are going to get into the industry you will have to become one and perfect the art. Most coffee shops usually find a bean by a manufacturer like farmer brothers and don’t bother with fresh roasted organic beans and they keep a certain consistency that way but it is not something coinsures enjoy.
Organic fresh roasted beans and blends are certainly a top quality and you can tell the difference ALWAYS! One thing PE has going for them is they have fresh roasted beans or seeds I should say. By investing in a roaster and learning to sight in their own roast and flavor they can sell a new local product and create their own flavor of coffee. One thing coffee shop owners need to know is COFFEE even if they have someone roasting for them it is important to understand the process and involvement of producing a great product! They need to stand by their flavor and be knowledgeable for those who enjoy the art of coffee but willing to learn from criticism such as this. It beats having to drive to Virginia City when crunched for time but I will say I will take the drive their when I have the time because I enjoy the options I have at the Roasting House so much I will go out of my way to go their. The Pony Espresso should take this as food for thought because I am not the only one that feels this way, just the one who is not scared to say how I feel. One the other hand I will not go to Starbutts and stopping by to support the local business is what I would rather do anyway. This review should not be taken lightly but it should also not be taken a negative because it is not. I just see that this new business has some room to grow and decide if they want to stand out or continue to lay in the shade. I assure you to be successful you have to provide outstanding product and selling another product that’s not your own may work for a while but you have not defined yourselves yet. You can have the greatest service even but if its not a product that is great and your own then your are just laying in the shade. I fully support the Pony Espresso and drink their coffee but this is my personal opinion and professional from being an educated coffee coinsure, barista, and restaurant/​business consultant and coffee industry study.
Take it for what you think its worth its your decision I encourage others to come here and come to their own conclusions. My three stars should not say A OK they should say Satisfactory but room for improvement!

Great espresso, lattes, blended drinks, and smoothies. They accommodate my special requests. The emailed receipt is a nice bonus. Support a great local business and come here instead of the chain up the street.

This coffee is next door to the best thrift store around. Why not grab a cup of coffee and shop at the same time. The Pony Espresso has a variety of tasty beverages and Dayton’s Thrift Store — Back on the Rack has a variety of thrifts, gifts and antiques at affordable prices.

This place is so cute! And there is a drive through! They have almond milk which I prefer too! Their chai is amazing. They sometimes have music in the evening but I haven’t gone yet. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because they don’t have decaf so my husband doesn’t get to splurge with me. Once they start grinding decaf then I’ll raise my rating to 5 stars!

I found a new coffee shop in Dayton. It has a Pony Express theme with an amazing wooden map of the Pony Express route hanging in the shop. Ray and Lynn made me a great Carmel Latte. Nice people, cute shop, delicious coffee.
