I think I found my new favorite bar! This place opens at 6 on Saturdays and has a really cozy patio filled with really cool mid-century looking tables and chairs. My friends and I tried the mai tai bowl and the rough n’ rowdy bowl. Both were good, but the mai tai was stronger. You definitely get your money’s worth of alcohol in these drinks. The coconut shrimp was also amazing and service was excellent.

Really big fan of this place. You have a small intimate atmosphere with mood lighting and a great staff. The food here is really impressive — we went for a night cap and I got the coconut shrimp, ate it, then ordered another round of coconut shrimp. Probably my favorite coconut shrimp I have had. The drinks were good and very strong, which is good or bad depending on your lean. My lean tells me that strong drinks are good. Overall this place attracts a really good crowd and the bartenders are have been great every time.

I came here with a group of six and we all comfortably sat in one of the booths. The highlight of our trip was definitely the ambiance — from the hula girls to the tiki cup and totems, SOS does a nice job of transporting you. What we ordered: Pineapple guacamole — 4⁄5 Wings — 4⁄5 Pina coladas — 3⁄5 Pros: great vibes and nice plates. Cons: food can be pricey but you are in Decatur. Don’t come here hungry. Portions are small. I see SOS as a place to grab drinks and converse a bit. It’s definitely more intimate than Victory.

Great ambiance and great drinks! Went to SOS with some friends for NYE and had a blast. Friendly staff, warm, welcoming and helpful with suggestions. Didn’t get a chance to try the food, but the drinks were all top notch. I ordered the Zombie which was strong but yummy. I loved the style of the place, from the décor to the music, felt like I was in an Elvis movie, «Blue Hawaii» SOS will now be my new go to bar in Decatur. Two thumbs up

Looks like I have found my favorite new opening for 2015… actually this may now be my favorite bar in the city. If you have not been make it a priority in the new year! Ok, so S.O.S. Tiki Bar offers a sophisticated but still approachable take on all things tiki in a cosy, charmingly thematic bar in Decatur. I love the hula girl lamps and the red underlights at the bar… love them. The booths are cosy and you feel like you are in a club in Honolulu in the 50s… its a very, good place to be. THEMUSICISPERFECT! It is exactly the music that you hear everywhere when traveling in Hawaii(we went to Kauai last year) and I LOVED it. Again, felt like I was in a cosy club of yesteryear… SOFUN! The drinks themselves are great… don’t expect cloying sweet tiki drinks here… they are more restrained, more complex and downright better while still being fruity and fun. That said, the piña colada and punch of the night are a dream and quite sweet while still packing a significant, well, punch… that’s right you can taste coconut, pineapple and rum in the piña colada. They are delicious. At $ 5 a glass they are also a steal!!! This may be the best drink deal in the city. My Polynesian ribs were also a treat. The portion was generous, the flavor spot-on and they were really, really tender. I look forward to trying the other items on the menu. Also, for what its worth… I’ve spent time in Hawaii, been to Trader Vic’s on two continents and was at the storied Tonga Room week before last… this place is better!!!

Replacing paper plane is impossible. SOS does a commendable job with a good environment and delicious drinks. The beer selection is small, it always has been, but it is still amazing. The large bowls of punch to split with friends is an excellent choice, and comes well decorated. Definitely recommend dropping in here for a drink or two!

We were kinda disappointed, we were looking a real tiki bar, the drinks are sort of craft cocktail versions of the old classics, but don’t rise to the level you’d expect. The music is SOO wrong for a tiki bar and the whole place is horribly noisy, all the cocktail shaker banging and clanging didn’t help. Sorry but a few hawaiian lamps and a nicely designed menu do not a tiki bar make. I might go back if they get they get in some exotica music and perhaps a few pieces of Witco or Shaq on the wall. It just didn’t have that flare you expect in a new tiki bar.

Located in the old Paper Plane location, in connection with Victory Sandwich Bar. Several of us were doing a cocktail crawl, we hit this place early in the evening. We were early enough to get the Daily Punch for $ 5, everyone who got it liked it. I had the Caribbean Milk Punch, similar to an egg nog, which I love and I loved this too. I tasted someones Mai Tai and thought it was better than the ones I had in Hawaii. Tropic Thunder, was not too my liking, the green chili, was too strong. The Tikiyaki sliders were pretty good. I saw an order of coconut shrimp go by and would order that next time.

I wanted to love this place. Paper plane was one of our favorite bars in the city so we were really eager to try out the new concept. I give 5 stars for the drink garnishes and presentation, however the drinks were so unbalanced and boozy. I had the piña colada, the drink had a nice creamy, smooth texture but lacked the pineapple flavor and way too much rum. My husband had the mai tai which also was unbalanced and very overpowering.

Super hungover as I write this review. Thanks, SOS Tiki Bar. It was a rough night. Located in the old Paper Plane location, Victory did a whole reworking of the concept and now I’m sitting in a freaking island bar. We went the back way, where you used to enter for Paper Plane, which is NOT the right way anymore. You can go all the way to the bathrooms in the back of Victory Sandwich Bar, turn to your right and you’re there. Hostess stand is right there, so we got some seats from the host, who was just chilling with a group of Hawaiian-shirt clad individuals(I’m assuming also work there) sitting in a large booth. Cucumber water, yay! Deliciously refreshing while waiting for our cocktails. I really struggled with these drinks, I did. We ordered three different $ 30 portion size cocktails: the Tropic Thunder, the Planters Punch and the Mai Tai. They only make some of the drinks in this size, which caters to groups of 2 – 4 people. All three really just didn’t work for me, we ended up playing drinking games in order to finish the drinks faster so we could order another one. Not a fan of the green chile vodka in the Tropic Thunder, not a fan of the weird spices in the Planters Punch and the Mai Tai was just straight up alcohol. I wanted a fruity drink :(The drinks came out in a beautiful display: I mean, cmon, how can you dislike a drink that has a lime on fire? I do want to come back again and get a drink I really enjoy, just those three were not for me. I’m so glad we didn’t get a punch bowl size of any of those.
