Terrible service. Came with wife and in-laws on Father’s day during game 7 of the NBA finals. Place was pretty empty and were told to sit anywhere. We then waited for 15 minutes before getting ourselves a pitcher of beer from the bar since we hadn’t even seen a server yet. They wouldn’t give us glasses though, and said that our server would take care of us. It’s now been 20 – 25 minutes, we have a pitcher of beer but no glasses and still waiting on a server. Haven’t even seen a menu yet. About 25 minutes in, a server dropped off 4 glasses for our pitcher of beer. without saying one word to us. Then about 10 minutes later a server finally told us to let her know if we want food. We came here for dinner, so we did want food, but figured we should give another place a try since it wasn’t such a good first impression. They are just walking by us and ignoring us. Will probably not be back.

The beer queso is just plain weird tasting. Ugh. The combination of this strange cheese with sweet potato chips is very much an exercise in palatal confusion. The menu looks nicer, but I’m still unimpressed. The atmosphere is nice, however.

I came here once to use the bathroom, but never to actually enjoy the drinks and play some games. It was a lazy Tuesday night and we decided to head here as our final destination in our Decatur outing. Twains has darts, pool and other usual bar games, which usually cost money. However, darts only cost you your driver’s license, so we chose darts and a pitcher of beer. It was a slow weeknight, so we ended up taking over two dart boards with three people. Instead of chalk, we were offered dry erase markers to keep score. Overall, it’s your average chill bar in Decatur to hang and play a few bar games. It’s a little dark and dingy, but sometimes the best bars appear that way because they are well used. If I’m ever in the area again and looking for something different, I’ll be sure to stop in Twain’s again to try some of their food I’ve heard so much about.

Went on a Saturday night and sat at the bar. Fast, friendly, and efficient service from beginning to end. I got the flight(5 for 10), some of the best brew pub beer I’ve had in Atlanta so far. Since my girlfriend doesn’t eat bacon, we had the deviled eggs with no Bacon. We also chose the seasonal Salad with watercress and heirloom tomatoes. Both were amazing. I chose to go with the porter, she got the Second hand Diamond with the sloe Gin. Her second drink was the house Margarita. She said it was strong as hell! That’s a good compliment coming from a bartender of 7 years. So far we were satisfied with the interior, the food, the service and the drinks. For our entrees I ordered the beef burger with the Farmstead toppings with fries. Being a pescaterian, she went with the smoked Trout Sandwich. Both were filled with so much flavor that all we needed was a few bites to satisfy us. The burger I had was probably the biggest I’ve had in a while, and was really hard to finish. I would love to give Twains 5 stars but I was pretty disgusted when I walked by the kitchen and the server sections. Trash all over the floor and no organisation. Even though the back of the House was a turn off, I will definitely be back very soon. We loved it!

Went in on a Friday afternoon to pass the time until some friends came into town. Staff is very friendly, both at the seated tables and at the bars. We didn’t know whether we were going to eat again, so the host did seat us, and then we changed our minds, and he was still really patient with our group. We ordered pitchers at the bar. I can’t remember the other beers that my friends chose, but I got the Messipi Nut Brown Ale, and I really liked it! My friends were waiting to play shuffle board and they put their names down. Meanwhile, we played darts. I’m not sure how the rotation goes to get on the shuffle board equipment, but we played several rounds of darts and never got to play shuffle board. Eventually, we played pool before we left. It’s a spacious pub. You can come here with large groups of friends and hang out. Good place to pass the time.

Twain’s has a classic pub atmosphere with bar food and wide selection of beer. It’s definitely a nice place to come on a casual night to hangout with friends.

NOTE: This review rating is not for the food. The food is 4-star worthy. I had the Southern Wings and the Shrimp and Grit Cake. Both were excellent, and I would come back for more if not for the following experience: I came in by myself at around 10:45PM on Wednesday April 13th to witness the Golden State Warriors win their 73rd game of the regular season. I knew that since it was a west coast game, I’d have to find a place that closed late. So Twain’s was my only real option in Downtown Decatur. I’d been excited to try out their food anyway, so I figured it’d be a win-win situation. Wrong. I came in, sat at the bar(in front of the dish washing apparatus) next to the TV… and sat… and sat… without being addressed by anyone on staff… bartender would not even look at me or ask me if I wanted a drink, despite me being in front of his face every time he used the dishwasher. His colleague obviously saw me as well as they chatted it up behind the bar and walked right by me. At this point, I’m just wondering how bad this is going to get…(«Am I really invisible?») Enter two Caucasian ladies who sit down 1 seat away from me… Lo and behold, the bartender immediately asks them for what they’d like to drink…, takes their order, and goes about his business continuing to ignore me. O_O After about 10 minutes of this BS, I finally I decided to flag down the bartender’s buddy and asked him if I could get a drink. The guy says«Uh yea, but you need to ask the bartender for that». I told him that the bartender basically wasn’t speaking to me(I have no idea why). So the buddy went around to get the beer for me, but told me that I’d have to do everything else through the bartender. GREAT. Once the bartender had been«informed» of my presence(as if he didn’t know the whole time), he eventually responded to requests for orders, but I always had to flag him down). And of course, I noticed that his attention only increased after basically most other customers left. I ate my food, enjoyed what I could of the game… which was shut off immediately after I asked for the check(do they do this at sports bars?) so that I couldn’t linger even if I wanted to…(and this was at least an hour before their closing). What is going on with this garbage? Why am I treated like this at this restaurant as well as Taco Mac(see previous review) — in the city of Decatur of all places, where people consider themselves«progressive» or «inclusive»? I suppose that only being black or white matter here… and if you’re anything else, you literally don’t appear in people’s radar. Good food can only taste so good when it’s served with a heavy dose of bad service and prejudice. Thanks for letting me leave with a horrible taste in my mouth about this place. I don’t need to come back here to be treated like this. So I guess you get what you want, bartender. People of my ‘ilk’ won’t be frequenting your bar to indulge your prejudice and your privilege to ignore who you want.

NOTE: This review is for the restaurant portion(on a weekday… during lunch) ONLY. I’ve avoided going back to Twain’s because of several crowded and unenjoyable experiences I’ve had in the past. However, today, I had the pleasure of visiting the restaurant for lunch, and oh, how my world has flipped! The food here is rockin’! Looking at the menu, there were about four things I really wanted and another four that I wouldn’t mind trying. A tough menu decision is always a first sign of a good restaurant. Sign two was how quickly the food arrived at our table. It had been maybe 12 minutes from the second our waitress walked away with our order to when our food arrived. Two big thumbs up there. Sign three of a good restaurant is silence. If, once the food is brought out, nobdy talks for ten minutes, you KNOW it’s good.(And no, uncomfortable silences do not apply.) I ordered the Parsnip Gnocchi with Crispy brussel sprouts and crispy beats in a brown butter sauce with a fried egg on top. Um… YUMMMM! A high-caliber and creative recipe coming from a Decatur bar I didn’t even know served food. One of my coworkers ordered the Sweet Tea Pulled Pork Sandwich with Sweet Potato Chips and«Mmmmm”-ed the rest of the meal. The other gentleman decided on the Springer Mountain Chicken Sandwich with fries and didn’t leave a single crumb on his plate. Though I might still avoid this place on the weekends, I can’t wait to go back for lunch!

This place was cool! I was asked to go here to grab dinner and was not disappointed! I wasn’t in the mood for anything fancy so I got the chicken tenders with fries. Now of course being the chef that I am I asked were the tenders hand battered and the waiter said nothing was frozen and everything was fresh! He did not lie. Tenders came out tender and crispy. I trust every taste bud that told me it was rolled in buttermilk and finessed with 11 secret herbs and spices. The honey mustard dip was also made from scratch. Had an interesting taste but still tasty!

How is it that I’ve never reviewed Twains? I’ve been visiting this place for decades. Back when they had the only non-smoking pool room in the city. Now, of course, the place has changed, but it’s still the comfortable Decatur fixture it’s always been. I’m always happy to find some hard rock and the occasional metal coming out over the sound system. Ozzy just sets the right mood, you know? Twains continues to serve some really good bar foods. This last time I had the nachos. These totally hit the spot. And the beer selection is, uh, selected to please. That, plus a full bar that is staffed by a couple of total bad-ass-tattooed sorceresses just makes my night. Next time I’ll have to try some of the beers they’re brewing. Holler if you’re coming with.

My go-to bar for Golden Tee. It’s very casual with good food, a solid craft beer selection, shuffle board, steel tip dart boards, foosball, a couple mundane video games, and about a dozen pool tables. Parking can be limited at times but check for the marked spaces in the apartment parking lot behind the bar. Servers Winston and Chris are exceptional and the rest of the staff is always accommodating. If you’re a Golden Tee player who would like to play a game sometime, message me.

Twain’s is one of the first bars I came to when moving down to Atlanta over two years ago. Since then, I’ve been back many times but not as often recently. I went there on a Saturday night not too long ago and was reminded why I like the place. One of the major appeals of Twain’s is the games– darts, pool, foosball, shuffleboard. The later it gets, the longer the line gets for shuffleboard and pool. We got there around nine and there was already a long wait for pool. darts are first come, first serve and it doesn’t ever seem terribly hard to get a game going. Twain’s is also pretty large so even though it gets crowded, there’s usually lots of space to hang out. I’ve never specifically come here for food, but Most of the food here is pretty good for bar esque food. All of the appetizers are great, especially for a late night snack. The home brewed beer is just okay. They don’t usually have anything on tap besides what they brew. I never really think of Twain’s as a brewery, but that seems more of the direction they’re heading in. Nothing overwhelmingly strikes my fancy, but it’s all decent nonetheless. Overall, Twain’s has a good atmosphere and cool crowd. Decent beer and food, worth checking out.

I came here on a Saturday night to celebrate with my friends and it was very busy by 8:30pm. Their parking lot is fairly small so I had to find street parking. Luckily, paid parking in Decatur downtown is only enforced until 6pm. There is not a lot of structure at this establishment, you find your own seating and find your own server to order. This is a good place to gather and hangout since there are pool tables, dining area, and bar, but can get very loud. I almost lost my voice at the end of the night. Although there was a waiter that kept checking up on our table area who was really nice, there were quite a few grumpy staff. While I was waiting for our friends, a waiter dropped a glass right in front of us and didn’t even bother to make sure everyone around was alright or warn the people around that there was broken glass on the ground. My friend and I remained in place to make sure no one stepped on the shards. A minute later he returned to sweep the glass up but didn’t do very thorough job. My friends and I gathered the loose glass for him. He didn’t even say a word, just looked at us, finished his sweeping, and left. I understand that this kind of work environment is stressful, but it was a little frustrating to be given the cold shoulder when we were trying to be helpful. Oh well.

1 star simply for the terrible service. Self seating was fine and we were able to find a table without waiting. We then proceeded to wait more than 15 minutes while our waitress helped surrounding tables, some of which arrived after us. I tried to order a 5 beer fligh and was told my selection was unavailable(again waiting excessive amounts of time between visits) I proceed to order a flight of any five beers they actually have on tap. She eventually comes back with a flight of 6 beers and my friends orders. Food was delicious and easily surpassed expectations. The table ordered a Reuben samdwich, a burger and Mac n cheese fritters. However, we had to wait once again for the server to get us silverware which didn’t arrive till about the time we were ready to leave. Upon closing our tab I found that I was overcharged and had to have a manager«do me a favor» to correct it according to server. Essentially, I ordered 5 tasters, received 6 and was charged for 8.

This is a cool place to hang out and try different brews, especially if you like playing pool. I’ve always ended uo here after a night roaming Decatur. Plenty of room and tables! Love their texas style nachos with sweet potato chips! Didn’t like their poutin as much. Super crazy salty. Would not recommend.

Twain’s is a laid back bar that’s not too noisy. I prefer bars like Twains. I was sitting towards the kitchen area and noticed how dirty it was. There were used napkins on the floor and it looked quite dusty. That bothered me a little. As for the food, I had the chicken strips and fries with honey mustard. It wasn’t great, it wasn’t bad but the fries came out a little burnt. Though I found the food pretty mediocre, I think the ambiance and the service made up for my experience. If you’re looking for a nice place to relax with your friends, I would totally recommend this place.

Twain’s is a very popular bar in Decatur and for good reason. Along with drinks, the food is decent and there are a lot of games to play. It is a brewpub so they brew some of their own beers. You can see the business’s fermenters on display behind the glass windows on E Trinity Place. One thing I like about Twain’s, that sort of sets itself apart from other local late night hot spots in Decatur(e.g. Brick Store, Leon’s), is there is a big free parking lot behind the building. It’s convenient. Part of the lot is paved and part of it is gravel. Twain’s is open late seven days a week. It’s open until 2am, Sunday-Thursday, and 3am, Friday and Saturday. On Saturday and Sunday, brunch is served from 11:30am to 3:00pm. The business is technically 21+ after 9pm, though I’ve never seen them card at the door. It’s a big bar with plenty of seating in multiple areas. Great for groups. Even with its spaciousness, the place can get pretty packed, especially on weekend nights. During peak periods, wait times can vary. I’d say expect a short wait for a table and roughly a 45 – 60 minute wait for a pool table. There are 11 pool tables spread over two rooms. It costs $ 3.75 per person per hour to play pool. If you have more than three people playing at one pool table, it costs a flat rate of $ 10 per hour. Other games that cost money include arcade games like a Terminator video game shooter, Golden Tee Golf, Silver Strike Bowling, and foosball. Free games include darts(four boards) and shuffleboard(two tables). Like the pool tables, the shuffleboard tables are popular and there is a waiting list you have to put your name on if you want to play. The shuffleboards are full-length at 22-feet each. In general, the various game equipment are in satisfactory, playable condition. Everything has been well broken in, but not broken. For a bar, the food is good. Like other Decatur bars, Twain’s menu offerings are a step above traditional«pub grub.» The kitchen sources many of its ingredients regionally and several from organic farms(e.g. Brasstown, Pine Street, Springer Mountain, H&F). Examples of items you might see include Brasstown beef jerky, a crispy kale sandwich, Gum Creek sausage, and Carolina trout. Appetizers and sides are priced less than $ 10 each and the bigger plates are mostly in the $ 10 – 12 range. The wings aren’t bad. There are 10 different wing flavors to choose from. The hot sauces are tasty as is the honey-garlic sauce. The wings are appetizing and a little bit chewy. They are served with celery sticks and blue cheese by default, though ranch can also be requested. It’s hard to go wrong with the house fries, one of the more reliable snacks on the menu. The fries are thin, almost stringy, and more soft than they are crispy. They’re served with sides of Sriracha hot sauce mayo and housemade ketchup. The poutine is OK. Poutine is a Canadian French fry dish made by covering the aforementioned house fries with a pork gravy, mozzarella cheese curds, and a sunny-side up egg. It’s an inherently heavy dish. Like an order of fries, it’s ideal for sharing. Try the chicken & waffles. It consists of a Springer Mountain chicken breast, infused with a sweet tea brine, served with an herb waffle, butter, and maple syrup. The plate also comes with a side of smoked Brussels sprouts and either a sweet tomato chutney or a bourbon bacon jam. I suggest the latter. Overall, the dish is sweet, from the chicken to the presumably syrup-covered waffle. Tender, savory chicken breast. Service is good. As far as late night hangouts in Decatur go, Twain’s may be my favorite.

Great local spot. We went on a random Saturday — there was a decent crowd watching some college football. There’s plenty of pool tables, not coin operated which is nice. Also, the beer selection is very nice. Overall a fun experience.

I have been going there for years. Only two times there was an issue with my order which wasn’t big and was resolved quickly. The staff is always friendly and courteous. I love the chicken nachos and the garlic wings here. They are honestly best I have ever tasted! The beer is super awesome which I love. It’s made onsite and is always good. They have main flavors and seasonal flavors as well so you can always try something new. I like the Concorde which is a 8oz sample of all of the beers on the menu. I highly recommend this restaurant, it is my favorite.

Twain’s is a unique spot among the pubs in Decatur since they offer pool and shuffleboard in addition to their own beers(which get the stamp of approval from my beer snob friends). With friendly staffers and great food thrown in, you’ve got a reliable spot that can please everyone in your party. I’ve had the wings, poutine, burger, Greek salad, and soup of the day(a pork and veggie concoction that particular date), and they’ve been tasty. Once I came here for an event, and the food was okay, not quite as good as the regular menu though. There are heaps of pool tables, so you probably won’t have to wait long for one, if at all. Shuffleboard on the other hand, is a different story. There are only two tables(boards?) so you may have to wait a while. What an addictive and tough game though! If it’s before 9PM, you’ll often see parents playing pool or shuffleboard with their kids. Parking is tough. You may be lucky and snag a space in the Twain’s lot, but you’re more likely to have to park several blocks away or give up and shell out dough for a space. Yay, Twain’s.

I have experienced Twain’s for multiple dynamics and can say nothing but positive remarks. For lunch/supper, you will find wonderful and creative choices on the menu, some seasonal. Consider ordering multiple appetizers to share, you can’t go wrong. Also irresistible desserts. You will see families here during the day/evening. For nightlife, we have had great times renting billiard and shuffleboard tables– always fun to compete against random people in the bar. If all the game tables are occupied, put your name on the wait list! They’ll grab you when it’s ready. The upper area bar is a decent size and the lower area bar is capable of any order(food + drink). We love their beer, they take care in the flavors and we enjoy trying the newbies(some seasonal) on the beer menu. For parties/groups, it’s super easy to coordinate with their team. There is a minimum food order to reserve the lower area booth space, with tables set up for your food/drink. You may also reserve game tables in the lower area for your party. The service is attentive and easy to get along with. Overall, casual atmosphere at any time of the day and fun Decatur hang out spot. Hey– I’ll help with the fish tank additions in exchange for beer!

I love going here to hang out with friends after work or just meeting up in town. They have some great burgers and side item selections. The draft and bar selection is really nice and has a good variety. The inside can get a little loud on the weekend and weeknight. The outside seating is pleasant and is dog friendly. If you want to play pool you can usually get a table and the price for the time isn’t too bad. They are ok with the wait staff and service. Sometime it can be hard to get service outside on the patio. They are pretty prompt when you are seated inside. They have multiple table options to accommodate for larger groups. They have events through the week as well for open mic or karaōke.

Twain’s is a great hang out! Please note, this review is only for the nightlife. No food has been consumed by me at Twain’s. I have visited this spot twice during trips to Atlanta. Both times have been a blast! Here’s why: Bar games. They have pool and table shuffleboard. It is a fun atmosphere to play these games with friends and to have a little friendly competition. Good drinks. They brew their own beers but also have a full selection of wine and liquor. Decently priced, they go down easy. Laid back vibe. Everyone in here is just kickin back. Whether you are at a table, enjoying the patio, or playing a game with friends there is something for anyone. Someday I will come back for food, but this will remain a must visit spot for me on any Atlanta/Decatur trip!

Eh. It’s just ok. Good beer but that’s increasingly common in ATL. Service was fine but management could do better. Here are the details: The bartender was really nice and they offer a good beer selection. But for a place that advertises its billiards it doesn’t have many tables and those get crowded quickly. I was also sitting at the bar when a group came in and asked to see the GOP debate(I was hoping to watch it too but I had been quietly sitting there). The bar changed it to the channel but refused to put on sound even though the place was basically dead but for the pool tables all being in used. Seemed arbitrary to me and like they were willing to lose the group’s business over it, though I admit I could not hear the reason given for not putting on the debate.

2 underwhelming stars for the appetizers. Food was terrible. Bean soup was spicy, salty. I could barely muster up 5 bites and had to discard the rest of the bowl. I’d recommend going there for the other features. There are many games, including shuffle board, and pool. Ambience is laid back. A good relaxed atmosphere to hang out with friends and have a conversation because it is not too loud.

I’ve been here about 5 times. Each time has been the same. Good beer, good service and so forth. The food has been pretty satisfactory… not the best… but, dude, this is very good bar food. Your other option is to go be accosted by hipsters at Victory Sandwich bar. One of the best things is that the servers were very helpful, responsive, and knowledgeable on each occasion I went. The poutine was amazing… so get that. Otherwise, they have an enormous selection of pool tables. There were a lot of teenagers trying to look cool, blatantly taking over the pool tables and trying to discuss strategy with a 40 year old brewery enthusiast. That’s pretty much a euphemism for Decatur.

A pretty hip place. The crowd here was, well, crowded and lively. lol. But really, you can find lots of folks in their early to late twenties here. The air was vibrant with so many conversations. There are of course an area for a sit down meal and the typical bar area for drinks. The other half of the restaurant is dedicated to the entertainments for the night(pool, darts, video games, and another game that I’m not sure what it is called – hybrid of air hockey and corn hole). My friends and I were here for a mini birthday celebration so for sure this place has that causal sit down atmosphere. The beers averaged out to be $ 6 to $ 7. There are cheaper ones for $ 3 plus change and others that were $ 9 and above. There is parking directly behind the building that’s free, but it’s only if you’re lucky enough to find a space. There are parking lots all around this area or utilize the street parking.
