Wild Heaven Craft Beers

Went up to Atlanta for a long weekend with friends, and while half of them were busy with some lame shit (don’t get me started), my boy Mikey and I snuck away to sample some local flavor.
Wild Heaven will not disappoint, ya’ll, although good luck finding the place. When you look like you’re in the sketchy part of town, that’s how you know you’ve arrived. That being said, once you walk inside, their tap room is nice and homey. It’s equal parts casual and up-​front.
After you buy some tokens – thanks for the weird state law, Georgia – saunter over to the bar and have your tasting.
Their beers are scintillating and innovative. Several of their crowd pleasers are truly sessionable, though not to my taste. To me, where Wild Heaven really shines are their bottles – a very proud bartender (a brewer? Maybe even the owner? I try not to pry) kept pouring me sample after sample of their stunning Civilization Ale after being impressed by my appreciate palate. That sounded dirty. But basically, his idea of a good beer and my idea of a good beer overlapped. Beer connoisseurs dig that sort of thing.
By all means, go, for a lazy Sunday Funday. I know I would.

Wild Heaven Craft brewery is such great find for a place to hang out and drink some interesting beers. Having been to numerous breweries, big (Stone in California) and small (Lake Effect in Chicago), Wild Heaven seems like an upcoming brewery with a nice selection of beer styles. What blew me away was the fact that you can get a flight of beer (~6 samples) and a pint for $ 12! By the end of the flight and the pint, you are pretty much guaranteed to have a great night. The only thing that I wasn’t too thrilled about was the beer flight selection. Of the six, I only really liked 2 of the beers. However, of the two that I really like, there was brown ale in the flight (Imperial Brown Ale) that was pretty awesome, probably one of my favorite Brown ales, since I am usually not a fan of that type of beer. There are other delicious beers on tap, such as the seasonal beers, that were not on the flight list, which you can get for your free pint.
Overall, I liked the openness of the brewery in terms of both space to stand and seating area. Additionally, everyone was very friendly, from the hostess to the bartenders. We ended up buying a few of their Emergency Drinking Beer glasses because they looked cool. Hopefully, they will expand their distribution to the Midwest in the near future!

My husband and I cannot get enough of Eschaton! The tastings are fantastic and sizable, there is also a good variety of types of beer. I personally like them all, and recommend arriving early on the weekends. Grab a seat, and camp out because it will get busy!

First let me start by saying since some time this summer, a law was passed where breweries in ATL can charge a cover fee. $ 10 — $ 15 on average and that normally gets you a pint glass and about 36oz. of pours. It also grants the brewery the ability to sell product (beer) AT THE BREWERY without needing to go through a distributor first. Good in one way and not so much in another way. Personally I was more a fan of getting in for free and showing my patronage through tips or purchasing a pint glass.
Wild Heaven is more catered to Belgian style brews. But it’s all beer to me. I’m not one of those who evaluate the beer for all the flavors and hops and etc. I try to stay pretty binary; does it taste good yes or no? I always aim for the high gravity pours which typically gives the best bang for the buck. The Emergency Drinking Beer is a cool concept. I can’t lie, the can attracted me but the alcohol content is low. I can’t stress enough to go high gravity. Invocation and Eschaton were my two favs. Felt like I had a shot or two of whiskey after I finished.
My opinion is that Wild Heaven is among the middle of the pack for breweries. There’s a brewery just down the road from from WH that trumps it in my opinion. But even still, I enjoyed WH quite the much.

For me it rivals Terrapin for best brewery in the state. We haven’t been to all GA breweries obviously but of the 8 or so we’ve been to Wild Heaven is hard to beat. They had 3 tour options. They had the SEC championship game on. They had food options. There was a nice outdoor area with games like cornhole. They had about 15 beer options which was awesome. We will be going back as soon as we can.

This brewery is tucked in on Maple St. I entered 135 Maple St on my GPS because it couldn’t find 135b.
I got lucky and found parking right outside the brewery entrance, but otherwise the lot was full even at 5pm on a Saturday. My boyfriend paid 12 dollars to try a flight with 6 4-​ounce pours and one 12 ounce beer. The staff at the bar table was very friendly and provided us with a sheet of what we were trying. Because I’m not a heavy beer drinker, my favorite was the emergency drinking beer. Cute name too!
This place is pretty chill and festive for friends to enjoy some drinks and hangout, they are dog-​friendly and has an outdoor area. The day we went they even had a food booth outside. Too bad silly GA regulations say you can’t buy canned beer at the breweries… We wanted to get some to-​go!

Even amongst the several breweries scattered around Atlanta, Wild Heaven Craft Beers remains distinct in both its beers and tasting room. Located near the intersection of Avondale and Decatur, the brewery lacks prominent signage, making it a little difficult and sketchy to find. Its short, little brown sign blends into the brown buildings and dusty roads, so look hard for it. If you find yourself by some seemingly abandoned buildings next to a railroad, you’re likely to be in the right place.
The brewery consists of a large warehouse that opens up into a fenced off «backyard» of sorts. Outside, there’s plenty of patio chairs and benches that’s perfect for cool, breezy days. However, there’s no shade, so if you’re there in the summer, bring some sunblock. Inside the warehouse, there’s a super cute, wooden bar lit up by hanging light bulbs. Combined with the wooden beams overhead, it gives the place a rustic, barn-​house charm. Several tall counter-​height tables line one side of the room for people to stand around and chat. Only 1 – 2 smaller tables had stools for seating.
The tour packages have changed and they now have 3 – 4 options that all add up to 36 oz of tastings in-​house. The cost ranges from $ 12 – 15. I’m a little disappointed in their standard package, #1 with 4 9-​oz tastings + 1 souvenir glass, particularly when compared to other breweries. Here, it costs $ 15 and you only get 4 tastings, compared to Red Brick and Sweetwater, where it costs less and you get 6 tastings.
All of the beers at Wild Heaven have a very strong, robust flavor with exception to their Emergency Drinking Beer, which is super light. If you have friends who like Budlight or Miller Lite, have them try the Emergency, which tastes like a Budlight with actual flavor. The majority of the beers are at about 6−8% ABV, with a couple reaching 10%. If you’re a fan of sours or sweeter beers, definitely give Wild Heaven a try!
One con about the brewery is the lack of air conditioning. :(They have a couple fans going inside, but that just doesn’t cut it during Atlanta summers. My beers kept turning warm within 10 minutes, but maybe I’m not drinking them fast enough… Regardless, be prepared to sweat!

Just great! Awesome staff! Great beer! Nice people! The prices of the beer was very reasonable and it was cool to watch them make the beer right there. If you are afraid of dogs dogs do not come here because we saw a couple dogs but we love the fur babies and we love them even more for it! We will be back.

Wild Heaven is such a great and needed addition to the Atlanta beer scene! My husband and I visited on a Friday afternoon in May after purchasing a Living Social deal and it definitely did not disappoint. I’ll also note that the Living Social deal was actually expired and they still allowed us to use it — super nice of them.
Wild Heaven is dog friendly, less crowded than other Atlanta breweries and the bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable. It’s definitely refreshing to not feel rushed to order your beer as a long line grows behind you. It’s a very casual and laid back atmosphere. The perfect spot to enjoy a few beers after a long week. The crowd is definitely more diverse than other breweries and its proximity to Decatur restaurants and bars is convenient.
Their tasting/​tour hours are longer than most of the other breweries (three hours Thursday, Friday and Sunday and four hours on Sunday) and their pours are generous. I was beyond please with the unique and diverse beer selection. On the day we visited there were probably ten beers on tap ranging from stouts to lighter blondes — definitely something for everyone. SESSION
Like a good session beer, Wild Heaven offers a chill, balanced, no frills experience.
The vibe is pretty chill. We went on a warm, sunny Friday and the crowd topped out at about 50 which made the place feel more like a block party than a commercial event.
The bartenders are extremely knowledgeable and keep things interesting the whole time. While we were there they cracked jokes, offered interesting insight in to their beer’s flavor and production, and even gave us a tip about mixing grapefruit juice with one of their beers.
HOMEBREWED
Despite the large and growing operation, Wild Heaven maintains a low-​key, neighborly atmosphere. Ex: While I was there, a song I hadn’t heard played and I wanted to find out who the artist was. I saw an iPhone sitting on a barstool with a cord running out of it across the bar so I walked over to peek at the screen. Turned out it was the Head Brewer’s phone and when he saw me checking it out we got into a discussion about some of our favorite bands. (FYI — The band was Saintseneca.)
Other refreshing touches that will probably change before too long: You’re not forced to walk through a gift shop, the bartenders aren’t wearing matching shirts with the Wild Heaven logo.
HOPPY
Once the tasting is over, it’s easy to hop over to downtown Decatur and find a restaurant where you can keep the party going. Wild Heaven is only a mile from several restaurants fantastic spots — Brick Store Pub, Leon’s Full Service, and Victory Sandwich Bar to name a few.

Wild Heaven is the best all around brewery I’ve been to in Atlanta. Granted there are still a couple I need to try out, but I’ve visited the majority in the area. In my opinion they have the nicest space, staff, and variety of quality beers.
First of all, unless you have a DD, I highly recommend just taking an Über (to this or any brewery). Most of their beer is high gravity, and you get the standard six tastings here. Not only do they always have their standards available, they also always have an assortment of specialty brews (last visit had 12 beers to choose from!). My favorite from the last trip was the tequila barrel aged Invocation.
To my knowledge there is no air conditioning, it’s just a big open air space inside the brewery with a large patio with picnic and patio tables, so the dead of the summer might not be the best time to go.
Staff is very friendly and helpful with beer selections, even letting you taste a sip before you fill your full tasting just in case. Don’t forget to bring cash to tip!

Pros: Awesome tasting beer. Less crowded than sweetwater. My emergency drinking beer glass is the coolest! The employees are also super nice and friendly.
Cons: Tour was boring, you just stand in one spot. It was raining so the ceiling was leaking and water kept falling on me! Maybe get that fixed.

Lemme start by saying– my sweetie and I really did like the beer. The beer isn’t the cause of the low rating. It’s the atmosphere, the parking, the facility, the tour, and so forth.
Wild Heaven is only open for a few hours on Saturday. We arrived about 45 minutes after they opened to find a totally packed parking lot and super confusing signage as to where we could park. I ended up waiting outside the lot itself, stalking anyone who looked like they were leaving and following them to their car. 20 minutes later, we’d found a spot. If I hadn’t purchased a LivingSocial (and y’all know I love a brewery tour), I would have left after 5 minutes of hoopla.
When we finally got in, the place was packed. Good for them, but not a lot of places to sit/​lounge. They announced a tour starting 5 minutes after we walked in. We joined the tour, but what a waste! It was so loud that we couldn’t hear a word the guide said and subsequently walked back to the bar area not to complete the tour. Boo. My sweetie & I fought our way to the front and got a sample. The beers we got were tasty, but standing in what amounted to a freezing cold frat party trying to drink them was no fun. No doubt, some may enjoy this kind of thing. But not I. We eventually found a quieter spot at some of the tables outside in the sun and enjoyed 2 more pours a piece.
We really did enjoy our drinks, but didn’t want to be drunk for the rest of the day and in turn, didn’t use all the drink tokens/​tastings they’d given us. We assumed we’d be able to use them on a return trip, but were told when leaving that they couldn’t be used on another visit. Really? It’s still 6 pours, regardless of when I drink them, right? And actually, that would have motivated us to return. Now, I doubt we would ever go back. If we want the beers we enjoyed, we can drink and buy them elsewhere. This place was definitely not my idea of «heaven».

My girlfriend and I flew down to Atlanta for an extended weekend to enjoy New Year’s Eve. Amid all the partying and eating, we wanted to also enjoy some of the area’s up and coming culture. My buddy, a lifetime Georgian and recent craft beer connoisseur, insisted we check out Wild Heaven brewery. Not just for the proverbial hair of the dog, but to actually sample and enjoy some of Atlanta’s best locally brewed beer.
For 12 bucks, we were given a souvenir glass (looked to be about 12 oz. or so) and 6 drink tokens. 1 token was 1 drink was about 6 – 8 ounces was delicious. No really, the samples were all fantastic, albeit struggling to keep them down in the earlier hours of my visit. They ranged from light ales to dark stouts, 7 to 8 in total. I remember Let There be Light and Eschaton. The names of some of my favorites keep escaping me, so I think that warrants another visit.
The staff was incredibly friendly, obviously. The guys (and girl) clearly love what they do and are so grateful to share their intellectualism and knowledge with other beer-​loving patrons. It created a very laid back and relaxed atmosphere, with everyone there for mostly the same reason. Rainy day, feeling touristy, and looking to learn a thing or two about beer? I was there in a heartbeat.
I’m told breweries aren’t allowed to cook or prepare or serve food or something like that. My buddy is in his 2^nd year of law school, so he likes to stick a pinky out and drop a few lines about state laws and alcohol regulations. Either way, there was a big crockpot full of loaded potato soup that a gentleman was nice enough to prepare for free (tips encouraged). We had a decent convo about how he makes soup every Saturday for Wild Heaven as well as the nearby Avondale pizza place.

Loved checking out this spot. Small and relaxed, it’s a perfect place to try all of the delicious wild heaven brews. They also offer Beers they are experimenting with which you can’t get at any other place. It can get a bit crowded inside during wintertime but they have a great patio space that I can’t wait to use the spring. There was also some tasty jambalaya on offer for donations that featured some seriously buttery and delicious rolls. Also for beer aficionados and home Brewers, the tour offered a lot of info on the science of brewing that I hadn’t heard on any other tour I’ve attended.

Wild Heaven is a pretty great local brewery. Definitely more chill than some of the more popular breweries in the city, but still busy. The space is very open, with the brew house on one side and the tasting area on the other. I love that there also is an outdoor space to enjoy your beer when the weather is nice.
Along with the Wild Heaven staples, there were a few experimental beers on tap, which is always a great treat when visiting a brewery. There are a couple tours given throughout the open hours. The tour guide was one of the brewers, and he was funny and informative. It was pretty short and sweet, but he gave a little history of the brewery and the basics of the brewing process.
The one suggestion I have for the owners is to possibly have an outdoor pouring station or an additional person pouring. The lines were really long, so most people were getting a beer, then getting to the back of the line. It would have been much more enjoyable if there were a few taps pouring outside, or if there was another employee pouring to make it move faster. The brewer/​tour guide/​money taker helped pour when he could, but an extra person at the taps really would’ve helped.
Overall, Wild Heaven is a great little spot to drink some Belgian style beers from this local brewery. Drink local!

Wifey and I came here for a tasting two weekends ago. Granted we came later in the afternoon, so we weren’t surprised at the long lines… I couldn’t help but think that when the lines get as long as they do here, it just makes sense to have two people manning the taps at all times. If that means just hiring one more person… just do it!
Anyhow…
We tried their rendition of Oktoberfest (Autumn Defense), their Saison (forgot the name), and their Pale Ale (Let There Be Light). All of them were drinkable… but were a bit one dimensional– I even wasn’t that impressed with the Eschaton which is their attempt at a Belgian quad. Just a whole lot of sweetness and booziness without any added complexity.
My favorite part of this tasting was probably the homemade Brunswick Stew that someone prepared ($ 1 donation/​bowl) — now THAT was tasty.

Solid addition to the Atlanta brewery scene. inside of the brewery is pretty no-​frills but their beer makes up for it. Lots of variety and lots of flavor. If you live in the Decatur area, this place is right down the road, and if you live farther away you can actually take MARTA to a brewery (for once!).
Pro tip: after a few brews, head to Palookaville for a corndog and a boozy shake

First trip to Wild Heaven was yesterday and the experience was great. $ 12 gets you six drink tokens and they were pouring six different beers, four of which I’d never tried. Civilization is by far the best barleywine I’ve ever tasted. The space is pretty cool, the décor is rustic and the bartenders were very helpful, if not friendly, talking to us about how their process differs from most and suggesting next stops on our Decatur beer tour. Lots of room with an uncovered outdoor seating area with picnic tables. They had water to cool you down in between half-​pints, but nothing to snack on. I’ll remember that the next time I go and bring my own.
Aside from the good vibes, why do almost none of Atlanta’s breweries get the fact that you need 1. A place to sit… 2. outside the reach of the blazing hot Atlanta summer sun… 3. at least one large fan to cool off your patrons… WH gets points for the fans, but there were only six barstools to cover 40 feet of bar. No high-​top tables or wall bars… just open space to stand.
I’ll definitely be back because this place is fun, but I hope they’ll get some outdoor umbrellas and indoor seating.
