Great, clean, not too crowded trail. We rode down from the polo fields to the beach in between soccer games on our mountain bikes. It’s a real easy ride with just a couple of hills. Everything is clean and well maintained. A couple walkers and people with their dogs had a bit of an attitude, I guess because we were on bikes, but everyone else was really nice and it was a great 3 ½ mile ride each way.

Attended this path while cleaning the area with my wife and her company. It is pretty big and path goes far so be prepared to walk.

While walking to the San Diego County Fair last night, I realized that there is now a great new River Path that follows along the San Dieguito River on the west side of the Fairgrounds. It is neatly paved and signed, and a fabulous new addition at which to admire the lagoon on which the Fairgrounds is adjacent to. In fact, the Del Mar coastal area, which includes the San Dieguito Lagoon and wetlands area is the«gateway» to the San Dieguito River Park. It has vital importance for the ecology of the region — for birds as a stop on the Pacific Flyway, as nesting and foraging areas for endangered species, and as a fish hatchery and open path leading from ocean to mountains. Directions to Trail: Take I-5 north to Via de la Valle. Go west on Via de la Valle, then south on Jimmy Durante Blvd. Just past the bridge over the San Dieguito River. The trail is located along the south shore of the river, west of Jimmy Durante Blvd. The trail is for hiking only and it is a flat and easy ¼ mile route. Dogs are allowed on leashes and the view is spectacular-all the way to the ocean. The Del Mar River Path is part of the San Dieguito River Park“s goal to create a multi-use trail system for hikers, bicyclists and horseback riders. This is planned to extend from the ocean at Del Mar all the way east to the San Dieguito River’s source on Volcan Mountain, just north of Julian. This is a distance of approximately 55 miles, and the linear trail system has been named the«Coast to Crest Trail». Imagine being able to ride a horse or a bike all the way from Del Mar at the beach straight east to Volcan Mountain? I plan to come back when I am not in a hurry to get to the Fair and check this beautiful new river pathway out a little further. 5STAR Unilocal for the City of Del Mar for featuring and preserving this great River Path.
