1st time here, although I have been to quite a few of these build your own pizza joints and consider myself expert in the area. Selection — 5 stars. Everything looks excellent Price — 4.5 stars. In line with what a pizza should cost, unlimited toppings Service — 2 stars. This one is where I have trouble. The 1st guy that made my pizza was great. Cashier wasn’t super friendly… AND my major issue, and this may come from working at a restaurant for so long, is that I am here at 3 in the afternoon. 2 tables are here. I’ve been sitting here for 30 minutes, and there are tables that haven’t been bussed. It just makes me feel icky. All in all, the product itself was solid. Not crazy amazing go tell your friends about it, but I might consider giving it another shot if I’m in the area.

I really wanted to love this place because I love Urban Plates so much. Online ordering was super easy but when I went to go pick up my order it was a whole other story. The restaurant wasn’t very clean and no employee greeted me. I didn’t quite see where to go to pick up online orders(Urban Plates has a designated section) so I walked up to where I saw other to-go bags, hoping to snag an employee’s attention to ask if I was in the right spot. I must have waited about 6 minutes before I finally had to wave my hands in front of an employee to get his attention.(I had said«pardon me but…» Several times.) he looked up, and so I proceeded to ask of this was the right spot for picking up online orders. He replied with an abrupt«No. You need to wait in line like everyone else.» Though his response was rude I replied with a nice thank you and got into line. I had to wait another 6 – 7 minutes before reaching the front, telling the girl my name, signing a receipt and grabbing my food which she had right next to her ready to go from the moment I walked into the restaurant. The pizza, though cold at this point was pretty good. But the mango tart I ordered was rotten, literally. I had to throw the whole thing out. The only reason this place got two stars was because the girl at the register apologized profusely for making me wait for my food. I will not be eating here again.

Fresh pizza! and best of all… best mango tart! Every time I’m in the area, I always pre-order an entire mango tart for pick-up. The price has slowly gone up over the years, but I still think it is worth ~$ 35 considering the amount of mango they place on there. The crust and custard are also not too sweet, which is great. I’ve had mango tarts from other places but the mango just isn’t as full and placed as nicely a they do here.

Best hand made thin crust pizza I have had. Great choice of toppings, cooked hot and crispy just the way it should be. Also absolute best carrot pineapple cake west of the rockies.

Been hear twice now. Good for kids, tasty pizza and fun drink selection. They have sugary lemonade or beer or soda. Plus the desserts are delicious. Worth the trip.

Great pizza with plenty of healthy topping selections. A six slice pie for only $ 8.50. For the same price, you can pile on anything you want. They also have a very nice selection of desserts and drinks, but they do not offer thin crust.

I loved this place, sort of a cross between Urban Plates and Project Pie, offering custom made thin crust fired pizzas, but also a bunch more options, with a «healthy» overtone to the selections.(Don’t worry, still plenty of «indulgences!»)

Price $$ Quality: 4.5 stars Service: 4.5 stars Value: 4.5 stars Portions: small Choose your sauce, cheese and as many toppings you wish to build your own customized 8 inch pizza. Here’s a plus, they offer organic choices as well. Compared to the other pizzerias where you can design your own pizza, this one has the best flavor. For desert, the mango tart seems to be their signature. Service was excellent and there is a decent amount of seating as they have a covered patio out back, one with a fire pit.

I don’t know why I didn’t give Urban Pi 5 stars in the first place! Sorry guys! You deserve 100 stars! The pizza is incredible and perfect. The Caesar salad, even though it’s such a basic item, is really some of the best we’ve had. We’ve only been here 5 or 6 times(believe me, if we didn’t live 35 – 40 minutes away we’d be eating there far too often!) but what blew my mind last time we were there is that one of the guys behind the counter remembered us! That’s impressive! That was really nice and made us love Urban Pi even more. Hands down our favorite place to go for pizza. Dang. Now I’m hungry. Hungry for pizza.

Design-it-yourself Pizza! I am former New Yorker so pizza falls into every single one of my basic food groups! Granted that I still love my basic plain greasy regular slice that I could get on every street corner in Brooklyn, but over the years of living in California I have grown to appreciate the personal pie with all the fancy schmancy toppings that are offered here! Of all the family owned places that I’ve had pizza at, Urban Pi ranks the highest, OK, let’s not exaggerate, one of the highest! I loved the variety of the quality toppings they offer, the doe they use, and the simplicity of the options. On this visit I went with their gluten free doe, and even that tasted good! Imagine that! The staff was very friendly, specially patient. The food was tasty and the setting was comfortable. Good job you guys :-)

Let me just start with how much I appreciate an artisan dinner for a very affordable and fair price! OWW!!! Urban Pi is such a loyal vendor in that sense. Anytime I done in, I’m always greeted with a huge Colgate smile from the artisan ready to create my pizza, & then I slide over and to have my salad created and I’m again greeted with a kind smile, not nearly as energetic and welcoming as the pizza artisan, but none the less, a warm welcome. :) Now I always recommend, you just«have at it», create a pizza with exactly what you want on it. Don’t be shy or worry about what the guy behind you is going to think… This is an opportunity for you to CREATE… Be a chef for an afternoon! And always grab an organic soda. I recommend Ginger or Blueberry & Root Beer, but they rotate the flavors, so you’ll have to visit more than once to experience the different flavors. Also never forget the mango pie. It’s rediculous & your taste buds will thank you.

If you are looking for a fast, efficient way to dine, this is your place — The format is cafeteria-style where you order, move down the line and pay at the end of the counter. The atmosphere is informal. Their prices are fantastic, and the food quality is excellent. I highly recommend!

Just a quick update to rave about the margherita pizza at Urban Pi. Although I loved the Pesto Pizza, I was craving something lighter on my most recent visit to Urban Pi. The margherita sounded perfect and it was! I had a choice of getting the red sauce or olive oil(I think) and I went for the red sauce. The flavor was spot on! I loved everything about the pizza! I’d also like to rave about the restaurant’s dog friendly patio. We were celebrating my mastiff’s fourth Gotcha Day and I wanted to take her out to eat. I chose Urban Pi because the patio is spacious so there’s room for a 100 pound dog. She loved the crust and enjoyed bird watching on the patio. Great spot to bring your dog!

Didn’t think it was so hard to get a to go order. Was hung up on twice by the bratty cashier who sounded like she was dying. Was over charged, has to wait a long time to get chicken on the salads I asked for chicken on. There were peanuts on the salad that I asked no peanuts on– what If I had a food allergy. I didn’t have time to argue with the cashier whose customer service reflected that of a 13 year old going through puberty. The I don’t care attitude might be cool to your friends but not to customers. She was huffing and puffing behind the counter because she got our order wrong. I looked around at the other people that worked there and they noticed and looked uncomfortable but acted like they were busy doing other things. Interesting. Seems like you guys used to give good service. I used to come here all the time but after today I will not be coming back and I would urge others not to, too.

4 stars for the real pizza crust not the thin cracker like crust at other create your own pizza places. 4 stars for the wide abundance of toppings including shaved Brussels sprouts, my personal fave and so hard to find at pizza places. Minus 1 star for the amount of flies in the restaurant. Landing on our table and dive bombing our heads. It was ridiculous. We had to keep swatting them away from our faces. I only hope they weren’t landing on all the toppings. Gross. Urban Pi… Please invest in some fly fans for the doors!

Wow, love this place. It’s like a chipotle for your pizza. There are tons of options and the pizza is really cheap for the size. You stand in line and either choose a preset topping pizza from the menu or choose what you want on it, all for a single price of like 8.50! Once the pizza is done, they bring it to your table! The food here is great, the interior is nice, the cooks are friendly and seems to be a good amount of seating. I would defineitly check this place out if you want to try a cool new place with your friends or family.

Urban Pi is conveniently located right off Via de la Valle in Del Mar. What I liked about Urban Pi is that it’s fast and friendly. You walk in and you can get your custom pizza within minutes. What I was a little disappointed on is the lack of ingredients to make your pizza. I decided to custom make my pizza since I didn’t like the pre-made selection. When I counted the amount of toppings I chose, it appears it was less than 5. Other custom made pizza places, I typically get about 10 toppings! My pizza ended up being $ 8.50 + tax. They have a variety of desserts to choose from, but I just couldn’t do it. We grabbed indoor seating, but this place also has outdoor back patio seating. It’s actually pretty spacious. There were a lot of families during our visit, and this is a great place to take families since you can get a variety of pizzas to try. Not my fave custom pizza place, but it is convenient if you’re looking for a fast meal.

I’m knocking one star for the worker who looked super annoyed as I was trying to build my pizza. I want all the veggies, okay? #nojudgementzone That being said, the pizzas here are really yummy. The crust, toppings, etc. YUM. We went around 6:30PM and the line was super long. The outdoor area was blocked off for a private party, which really limited seating. Eventually, the employees said people could sit outside as long as everyone was out by a certain time(so they could clean/set up before the party). I thought it was really nice gesture. I got the pesto pizza, but added brussel sprouts, jalepenos, onions, and an organic egg. The pizza and a beer came out to around $ 15 dollars. …I will neither confirm nor deny that I ate the entire pie #secrets

With these create your own pizza shops sprouting up like weeds, could Urban Pi offer a substantially better product than its competitors without compromising the under $ 10 «rule?» Well, after an exhausting work week, I didn’t feel like being creative so I went with one of the chef’s creations, Thai Chicken Peanut. This pizza did not disappoint! So much flavor with a real spicy kick at the end. What impressed me the most was the very chewy and tasty crust. Unlike similar shops, I felt like this crust didn’t taste as «manufactured.» My only wish is that I could have used a few more strips of chicken. Oh well, first world problems.
