This is a lovely little cemetery on the border of town. In the distance, you can see the famous agricultural fields of the San Joaquin Valley, as well as various radio broadcasting antennas. Neighborhoods border the cemetery on several sides. The maintenance here is decent. The grass gets a little bit dry and brown in the Winter, but then again, what lawn doesn’t? There are two sections, one on each side of what I believe is Albany Street. The official address for the cemetery is listed as being on Austin Street. The newer section of the cemetery is frequently visited, especially during holidays. The older section has BEAUTIFUL, above-ground monuments and headstones that seem to have been forgotten. Grab a flower or two from your loved one’s bouquet, and walk on over to visit the Delano citizens from long ago. Or, visit at dusk and light veladoras(those religious pillar candles) on the graves in the older section. They really give the cemetery a warm glow and a feeling of peace. One thing to consider: One of Delano’s problems right now is the problem of minority gangs. My brother and I came one night to light candles for the people resting in the old section of the cemetery when we heard someone yell, «Hey!» in the neighborhood across the street. Then we heard two loud pops that we are sure were gunshots. We ducked behind headstones for safety, although it was most likely a dispute in the neighborhood and not anyone aiming at us. Just keep your wits about you if you decide to venture into that neighborhood, regardless of the time of day.
