I have no issue spending money for good food(we are on the ave eating dinner weekly) but this place is insanely overpriced and has a feeling of thinking they are too good for you. Want a menu? «Sorry we are green.» Want pepperoni or sausage? «Sorry we don’t have those.» No issues with trying to raise the bar for pizza and try something outside of the norm but this place misses the mark completely and just comes off snobbish. I’ll keep driving to Manhattan Joe’s instead of this place that is right around the corner.

Remember Pizzeria Oceano about 20 mins north in Lantana, FL… the crazy but excellent place that made amazing pizzas one at a time? The owner has recently changed the concept there and brought his pizzas to Delray Beach. However, this spot is just pickup or delivery… no seating. Not open during the day… open 4pm — 10pm(state will add more time when season kicks in). Thankfully he has a larger oven that can handle a number of pizzas at once… so the long wait is gone. For pizza purists who followed the chef at Oceano, know that the pizza here is a little different. While I don’t think its as great as what he used to do… it’s still very good. The issue of having to take home your pizza(or delivered) presents a problem. Arriving home with great anticipation, the pizza was just warm. Lost was the great crust and texture of the pies I knew… sort of soft, soggy. I tried a slice this way and while it had good flavor it was not satisfying. Fired up my oven and warmed up the pizza till it was hot. This made a world of difference. The pizza was much better and I enjoyed it a lot. Very high quality ingredients are evident. Still not up to the standards I remember from past Oceano glory. Also tried a salad offering… there are 3. The apple and kamut salad was very nice. You can order by phone or their web site. There is a commitment to excellence, high quality ingredients… so the pizzas are expensive, especially considering it’s take-out. Will be interesting to see if people take to this concept.

Lantana’s ‘Jerk Oceano Pizza’ has opened a new location on NE2nd Avenue in downtown Delray Beach where they do business as ‘Swell Pizza’. I stopped in the other night and ordered a pie to go… Being a Delray Beach resident I was eager to support another new business here in town, but as a 1st time customer I was unfamiliar with their menu so I decided to play it safe, or so I thought, by ordering their basic 18 inch RED pizza… after which, I also chose to customize my pie by adding a couple of toppings to it. What a mistake that was… For the sum of $ 3 they slivered on no more than a half teaspoon’s worth of paper thin onion scraps. and for another $ 4 they took a meager 3 olives and cut them into quarters, sparingly placing them atop my pizza. Now to their credit I was told in advance if I wanted cheese and olive oil on my pizza I had to ask for it, so I did, however I didn’t realize a no additional cost option to the people at ‘Swell Pizza’ really meant«hardly any at all». Bottom line here folks, I paid $ 25 for an 18 inch pizza and it was the worst, I repeat«THEWORST», pizza I ever had!!! The crust was hard as a rock… the sauce not only tasted like it came right out of a can, but it was ice cold… the few sprigs of undried oregano placed atop the pie added nothing to the taste… About the only thing they were generous with was the garlic they slivered on top of the pie, but come on, there was enough garlic on top of that pie to choke a horse… I’ve eaten pizza all over the world … and ‘Swell Pizza’ is by far my all time pizza disappointment… My advice to anyone out there searching for that great Pizza Pie when visiting Delray Beach, do yourself a favor and stay far, far, and I mean far away from ‘Swell Pizza’…

I have been here twice but wanted to give them a second chance from the disappointing first visit. Let me first start by saying that the staff was friendly both times. It is just the pizza that doesn’t measure up to the original Pizzeria Oceano. The pizzas at Pizzeria Oceano might have been on the high side for price, but the quality was worth it. A $ 25 cheese pizza at Swell Pizza is definitely not. I might try back again in a year, maybe they are just adjusting the recipe to the new ovens. These pizzas go cold quicker than most and this style of crust doesn’t taste good unless it is warm to hot. I even tried eating it just around the corner so it didn’t have as much time to cool down on the drive home, but no luck, still only okay at best.

Being a huge fan of pizzeria oceano, we took a drive to Delray to check out Swell. We ordered an large(18in) basic and a White. They were both incredible and did not disappoint. No this is not your average pizza joint. They use the same organic, local ingredients that pizzeria oceano did so if your looking for inexpensive pizza this is not it. I high take comfort in knowing I can feed my kids” real food«pizza.

Tried swell for the first time & I was rather disappointed. While pizzeria oceano’s pizzas were some of my favorites — I’d bring all of my out-of-town guests there, swell is really middle of the road. The crust was thicker & heavier, rather than the lighter & airier one that I’m used to, the ingredients were of high quality, but to pay these higher prices, the food would truly need to be spectacular. Unfortunately, swell doesn’t live up to it and there are so many others out there that compete with it. I was the only one there on a Saturday night so I don’t think I’m alone. I hope they think of bringing back pizzeria oceano. Still trying to figure out why they switched it over. Ordered a regular large pizza with cheese for $ 23& a salad for $ 12.

This isn’t just great pizza, this is the pizza you never knew could be possible. We ordered a big classic pie and were blown away. The sizeable, perfectly cooked golden brown crust was on the thin side with the perfect crunch to chew ratio. On top: house made mozzarella, splashes of(house made) bright and herbal tomato sauce, big leaves of fresh basil and the sharpness of quality provolone and pecorino romano. All of this epicness is packed in a box with a ramekin of extra virgin olive oil because they know it will always be better when added right before eating. $ 23 If you’re a fan of chewy pizzas with lots of flavorless cheese and sweet sauce, nearly every other pizzeria in town will be a better choice for you. If you’re a fan of Neapolitan or coal oven style pizza(but get annoyed paying $ 20 – 35 for a 12 or 14 inch«snack») forget«The Ant,» Swell Pizza is your new superhero.
