The Jalapeno Tree Mexican Restaurant

Great service and a nice atmosphere but the food was lacking. Everything we had was bland and flavorless… like you’d expect nursing home food to come out. Maybe they were just having an off night… or maybe they just need a new chef. I’ve never had frozen corn and peas in my Mexican rice before… it was icky to say the least. No where near authentic.

We recently went to the Jalapeño Tree for the first time while our daughter was visiting Austin College in Sherman. Tamara our server greeted us and was just amazing! The fajitas and drinks were delicious! We had planned to stay in Fort Worth the next night but stayed in Denison so we could go again. Tamara greeted us again and Brian made the perfect Mexican martini. The shrimp nachos, recommended by Tamara, were to die for! Everyone was so nice and we will definitely be back since our daughter will be attending Austin College in the fall. Highly recommend Jalapeño Tree in Denison, TX! Thank you!

I do not like this place. The food is hit or miss. The last time we went we were invited by a group of friends for drinks on the patio. They had eaten already. We were smart and are before we came. No one liked their food. We went inside for a drink because the waitress never came around (even for iced tea). The bar tender was HORRIBLE. I ordered two vodka sodas with lime. I was taking one to my husband. He left off the limes. I asked again. He brought me one. I asked for another. Nothing. Got his attention again and asked. Then he asked me if I was going to drink the other drink? Wth? I said no it was for my husband. I guess he thought I would dig the other lime out of my drink and put in the other? He THREW another lime slice onto the bar top at me… I was being nice about the other lime. I wasn’t ugly or hateful about it. I WILL NOT ever be back.

Service sucked! I ordered a chicken taco salad and waited 45 minutes to only be served a cold beef taco salad!!! Waitress was new and totally untrained… Manager could have cared less about my complaints
I left with a 50.00 bill and didn’t even have a meal for dinner. Overpriced for crappy services and food! Don’t eat here!

We came to this restaurant for a nice dinner together as a family. Upon entrance we were greeted by a kind hostess and seated quickly, drink orders were taken and chips brought. Then came the wait. Our drinks took at least 15 minutes to come out and it took them 45 minutes to take our order. When the waitress finally took she was snippy and rude when responding to questions about sauces and just seemed like she would rather be anywhere else than where she was. Overall, the chip service was great and the food was okay, but the service from the waitresses was AWFUL. Won’t be back.

Prompt seating, experienced service, strong drinks, great atmosphere & yummy food. We will be back.

Everything seemed fine this time and restrooms were ok. I hesitate to give four stars just yet. Further visits needed

Having said that… they’ve messed up so much, my dad refuses to eat here. They’ve shrunk their portion s thinking people wouldn’t notice. Their service is absolutely atrocious. I waited ten minutes for chips and salsa on a weekday afternoon (definitely not busy) and only got it because we stopped someone and asked.
My parents are on a mission to find me nachos elsewhere because they hate the service here so much.

They billed my credit card twice. Honest mistake I guess. Then the manager came and told me the waitress said I was rude about it. Oookkkkaay. Food is subpar as well…

Overpriced and under value.

Terrible! This place has taken a nose dive with the new management. Poor service, went in for my hour lunch and waited 40 minutes for food. Orders were sent out wrong. Manager was unprofessional, dressed poorly, (ie. shirt unbuttoned, wrinkled) did not introduce himself. Argued with our table about the service. Overall terrible experience and that is a pity. Do not recommend and will not be going back.

I am a fat guy who loves to eat… I am pretty easy to please, cold glass of Tea and a mildy warm plate of dead animal will usually suffice, but this place TOTALLY FAILED ON ALL ACCOUNTS!
Manager didn’t know how to read the seating chart without help from the host, waiter must have been his first day, three out of four glasses pretty much stayed empty, one person’s food wasn’t even ordered until after the other three had already arrived, Even when the waiter asked if everything was ok after realizing he made a mistake, the manager never came by or checked with the table. My daughter actually started feeling sick shortly after leaving the restaurant and got down right sick later in the evening once we were back at the motel.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, MONEY, OR LOVE OF FOOD ON THESE PEOPLE.

Very similar to Chili’s, but a few more Mexican dish options. This is one of the few places that offers Chimmichangas, and enchiladas as menu options. I think they’re quite good. The chips and salsa are really good, and it’s conveniently located being about a block off the highway.
They’re always busy on weekends; especially Sundays. There seems to be a lot of turnover with the staff, so there are definitely opportunities to improve service. They also have a soft-​serve ice cream dispenser in the entryway, so you can grab a little treat before or after your meal!
They have outdoor seating, and the area is well landscaped with plants and even a fountain. It is a little over priced, but as a once-​in-​a-​while treat, it’s less expensive than some of the other really good Mexican restaurants, but offers a more traditional fare.

This place has slowly become a spot we will avoid.
To begin, we waited so long that we actually had to ask to be seated, and the bartender was the one to seat us. This meant our waiter didn’t know anyone had been seated in his section I suppose, because it took a very long time for him to stop at our table. This was the same story for people sitting at 2 tables near us as well.
We eventually had drink orders taken, and brought back after about 10 minutes, and at that time our food orders were taken and we had to request chips and salsa.
Our food arrived in a reasonable time, my son ordered a cheeseburger, didn’t get cheese, but when we inquired, we were given a bowl of shredded cheese. Not sure that’s what we had in mind, but we were hungry and he accepted it. The food was pretty good, but terribly overpriced! I had shrimp quesadillas, there were maybe 6 shrimp inside and I spent 12.99 on them, rice and beans always seem like a way to fill the plate, because they always suck, this was no exception.
Getting our check and paying took way to long!
We don’t visit this place often anyway because it seems there is always something that makes it unpleasant, most often the service. This was no exception. Our waiter himself was polite, but they seemed especially short staffed, which I find unacceptable seeing as how the «now hiring» banner never comes down. The poor service will keep me from returning again, at least for a good long while. Perhaps management should figure out how to properly staff a restaurant.

Fairly good, the salsa and green dipping sauces are a treat

Enjoyed the food. Not out of the park, but good. Our waiter was busy running around and it was not a busy time of day. I think the service could have been better.
