Still, this is hands down our go to place when we go out for lunch, dinner or brunch! They’re trying some new stuff on the menu but not quite listed yet. The lamb shank is fall apart tender and worth the money you spend on it. Probably enough to share but my hubby only got one bite. I finished it and ALL the veggies that acted as it’s bed! My hubby always goes for the burger which is ALSO shareable. It comes with a pile of matchstick fries but you can sub some veggies or maybe a salad. I admit, even when I do sub, I still snag some of those fries. Brunch is a beautiful meal here. The fluffy 2″ blueberry pancake is the mother of all pancakes. Topped with more fresh berries and whipped cream, syrup on the side and jam packed full of blueberries. Add a side of crispy thick cut bacon and you are good to go. I dare you to try to eat the entire thing. The brekkie is delicious as is the frittata. The staff are friendly and helpful. So, if you’re looking for a place to enjoy both food and atmosphere, come to B&B. They’re always smiling and happy to see you! Your tummy will thank you too!

Did a late lunch on a week day and we had the place pretty much to ourselves. Server very personable and helpful allowing us to sample and select a beer from their 30 plus on tap. Really liked the unique casual but classy décor and then the food came. I had their award winning burger(info from server) it was hands down the best i have ever experienced. My wife had the turkey on pumpernickel, that bread had to have been home-made and was also very good. We had plans of just doing an appetizer but the menu was very intreging, had to try something. We were stuffed to were my wife ordered my favorite desert to go, the bread putting. Got home that night and with good intentions of eating just ½, i couldn’t stop. Came with 2 sauces, one with a touch of bourbon. Loaded with nuts, had to be again the best i ever had. Little on the high end price wise but with the experience we had it was well worth it. Hats off to Jason Lee and his partners for this great establishment.

We waited about on hour on Saturday night, so this place has become pretty popular. Four of us started with the bacon-wrapped, date-stuffed chorizo and the portobello fries – both were really good. Among us, we had three burgers and the quail. Food was well-prepared, served hot and very tasty. They only offer one burger and it’s served one way, with carmelized onions, pickles, thousand island dressing and American cheese. Our server never asked how we wanted them cooked and they all came out medium. The burger is served with a side of shoestring fries that look pretty on the plate but beyond that, they’re hard to eat and might as well be potato chips. Our fourth reported that the quail was very good. Our server was proficient but that’s where it ended. He didn’t show us much personality. The most memorable part of our evening was the over-served foursome seated nearby. One of the women was so drunk that she literally fell out of her chair. Today, her butt probably hurts as much as her head.

Favorite brunch, lunch and dinner spot on the square. Burger is amazing and messy. Portobello fries, bacon wrapped, charcuterie board, salmon flatbread and pork tenderloin are some of my favorites. Staff is upbeat and extremely knowledgeable! Beautiful décor too!

Hanger Steak: the steak was good but it just wasn’t cooked exactly the way I would have liked it. However the managers noticed I didn’t finish my meal so asked how my meal was and I said it was good because it wasn’t bad to the point where I had to say something about it. I guess they sensed something was a little off so they apologized and took care of my meal because they said it should have been a 100%. That stunned me– for a staff to be so on top and detailed of their customers is very rare to see and I must say it was the best experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant in my life. The atmosphere and just the whole feel of the place is the best especially on a sunny day.

Everything, I mean everything we had was good. The bacon wrapped chorizo stuffed dates, the grilled Cobb salad(the shiitake mushroom bacon is just to die for) and the prosciutto flat bread. Yummo! In Denton on a Saturday for the black film festival, that was definitely worth the drive and spent some time walking around the square in between movie blocks — a great idea. Saw this place on Unilocal and it had good reviews so we took a chance. This was a great choice. BTW, every menu item we got was enough to share and very fresh. I really liked the ambiance as well, sort of rustic but modern at the same time. The prices were about average for a restaurant like that. If I’m back in Denton, I’d go here again.

Barley and Board nailed it with their atmosphere, location, and menu. The whole restaurant and concept is perfect for this area, and unlike any place Denton already had. We’ve been a number of times now and just recently tried their brunch. I always enjoy their cocktails, you can’t go wrong with any of the choices. My first time I came here I tried the salmon with spinach and beet purée. It’s a good healthy choice, though not the most flavorful compared to some of the other options. I’ve also tried the pork, great flavor. But my absolute favorite dish here is the gnocchi. It’s sautéed with fresh vegetables and has THE most incredible combination of flavors and textures. I’ve only been for brunch once and tried the omelette with fried oysters. It was good, buuuut I still prefer the gnocchi. The s’mores dessert is as delicious as it looks, just get it. And I am a huge bread pudding lover, so I’d also recommend that if you’re a fan!

Let’s get real… I frequent here because yes the food is wonderful, but on a real level it’s the friendly staff! Shout out to our server Anna for always making our experience«the way it should be, perfect» It’s random, one of the owners is a well known actor«Jason Lee» I don’t know how he landed a spot in Denton TX but thank the Scientology gods cuz a gastro pub was desperately needed on the square! Difference between a bar & gastro pub is the food… chef is on it &BOH is marching in line for success Let’s go back to real talk Food is simplistic fresh & homey. Cocktails are whimsical, tasty, & strong(like my men) 36 beers on tap… temptress from Lakewood brewery champs them all! Burger is amazing, pork is a must try, vegan options as well. win win everyone’s happy! Do what I do best //food coma//just let it happen!

Two meals in six days(lunch and dinner) at this recently opened venue… Benjamin for lunch(in his first role as a server!), and Brantley for dinner… I have to say that this is a great addition to the many excellent restaurants in Denton. Service was extraordinary, and the food excellent… While offering a fairly limited menu, it is very diverse and should cater to all tastes. I found the only burger on the menu to be a real sleeper. It looked quite unremarkable on the menu until I saw one carried by! It proved an excellent choice. A companion had the blackened salmon which was superb in presentation, and massive in portion size. Another had the gnocchi and was quite pleased. My earlier lunch option was the Mechada, which was enjoyed equally by several other companions. Overall this is a highly recommended destination in the heart of The Square, here in Denton.

We came here on a Sunday night and it was great. we were seated immediately and there were enough people there to make it energetic, but not too crowded. The service was great and they were able to bring our kids just a simple side of vegetables. The beer selection was decent as well. Oh ya, and the bathrooms are pretty cool… I’ll leave you to go check it out yourself. We had the truffled portobello fries and the fact that they were breaded is the only reason this isn’t a 5 star review. We were not expecting that and wish they had mentioned that on the menu. From there, we had the burger and the salmon. The beet sauce on the salmon was great. I wish I could bottle it up and take it home. As for the burger, it was so moist and delicious. The bun was soft and it was simple, yet the taste was popping with flavor. We’ll definitely be back.

Loved this place! The inside décor is cozy, and the service upon entering is top notch. We started with the truffled portobello fries– delicious! We had two plates of it. It was lunch time, so I ordered the B&B Carbonara. As soon as they brought out our dishes, everyone complimented on how good my carbonara smelled, and they were right. Good thing I ordered it, cause it tasted as excellent as it smelled. There was a small incident of spilled tea and the staff handled it so well. Service was quick. Overall, a great place. Excited to go back!

I love this place, for lunch or dinner or just drinks. The décor is great, from the huge«lightbulb» light fixtures, the the metal chandelier, the moose head, to the old fashioned pull-flush toilets. The food is interesting and delicious. There is a huge selection of beers, on tap, with lots of local, and craft brewers beers. The wine and cocktail selection is also impressive. The prices are very reasonable.

I do not know where to begin with this place. My wife and I have been here three times. We have made drives from Wichita Falls to Denton to literally just to go Barley & Board. This is how much I love this place. You want to know the sad part? The depression portion of the story that makes me look bad? I know you do. …So I’m a creature of variety. I love trying something different off of the menu every time. But one time, my first time there, I saw the burger being delivered to a nearby table. That’s when it hit me. I could die happy as long as I had that burger. So we ordered it and I have never ordered anything else. It is the best burger I have had. I am not joking or exaggerating. I love their burgers. I also love to try a new beer off of their extensive draft beer list while I have the burger. I even had to tell myself to slow down because I felt like I was going to inhale the burger the last time we were there… But maybe that’s just me. Regardless, If you’re in Denton and haven’t been, you’re wrong. Fix yourself. Bring money though, it is slightly expensive. It’s not a break the bank by any means but don’t expect a cheap meal. It’s also a very nice establishment, perfect for a date… You should probably not get the burger if you’re on a date, it can be messy. But the restaurant is very nice so it can be a little romantic. Moral of the story… give it a go. And then go again.

Love at first sight & bite. The first time I walked past Barley & Board I was intrigued as I gazed in through the picturesque paneglass windows at the bar featuring an impressive amount of beer on tap and cabin-in-the-woods style décor. I vowed to one day go in, and when I did I was not disappointed. Barley & Board offers a unique dining experience, a step above your typical eatery. The attention to detail is flawless. There’s nothing not to like– the waiter’s are cool, the atmosphere is homey(you’ll never want to leave), and the menu items aren’t something you would see at many restaurants. I ordered the Truffled Portobello Fries to start. They weren’t what I expected– they were better. Thick deep fried slices of portobello mushrooms with truffle and served with a flavorful mustard aioli sauce. For my main dish I ordered the Chicken Goat salad. It was very good and big enough to share. My boyfriend ordered the Hen of the Woods flatbread, which was too tempting not to try– it was also delicious. Besides the food, the building itself is impressive. It’s two stories high with a view of the square upstairs. The décor has a timeless, log cabin look. There’s a back seating section featuring a pretty impressive mural of 2 bears fighting. They also have what is probably the nicest bathroom I’ve ever been in. I’m smitten. I’m already planning a trip back for brunch, which the waiter informed me is only on Saturday and Sunday. I can’t wait to try one of their in-house brewed beers, as well as pretty much everything else on the menu.

Barley and Board is a new concept of food and atmosphere on the square. I think it’s awesome we have a restaurant like that now and even cooler that they are brewing their own beers. If you want to get your money’s worth here(not spend too much) I recommend getting the burger or the chicken goat salad(both $ 12 each). These are definitely the most filling options in the menu. If you don’t care about the bill, branch out and order some appetizers, such as the mushroom fries or bacon-wrapped dates before your entrée. The atmosphere, music, and service are all impeccable. Definitely a great experience and already a Denton essential even after only a few months. Check it out!

My new favorite restaurant in Denton! The interior design and atmosphere was just lovely. The restaurant had their windows wide open to enjoy the wonderful weather, which added even more to the atmosphere. Being a first timer, the waitress was helpful with explaining the types of dishes and what she recommended. I decided on the salmon on flatbread, and it was absolutely delicious! A little heavy on the cream cheese for my taste, but everything else was great. The salmon was delicious, the cheese was well favored, and the refreshing spring lettuce complemented the dish perfectly. As a student in Denton, I look forward to coming to the square and trying out new dishes!

Ugh. No one is more disappointed than I to be giving this crappy review. I REALLY wanted to love this place; god knows Denton is painfully short on great restaurants. We’ve been here twice now and in a nutshell, it’s just overpriced for massively ordinary food. The space is amazing and the staff are really trying, but I was so incredibly disappointed in the food. The first time we came we were even two Paschall’s drinks in, so I was prepared to just adore whatever I got. I ordered the crisped mechada – it sounded unique and therefore I figured something they were probably pretty proud of. Hubby got the Mother Board – he’s a charcuterie board fool. I dug into the crisped mechada and gave it several bites before it occurred to me that it was totally flavorless and *boring*. Honestly, it was just… sad beef. The Mother Board was decent, but I have to say something about the entire mother/cheese/whatever board section. It’s all a little pricey and mostly I’m okay with that – cheese is often a little higher priced and I get it. But I got the cheese board last night and it was the most freaking ordinary cheese ever. Like someone ran down to Kroger to get it – and not even in the sad little«fancy cheese» area there. Furthermore, when it was given to us(hubby got the regular charcuterie board), no one was going to tell us anything about them! I had to ask, and even then the server wasn’t sure. He said it changed constantly, and that’s cool, but don’t just AVOID telling the customer about it! At least try! Lastly, my cocktail was so-so and hugely overpriced for what it was($ 12 Manhattan? Really?). Hubby didn’t bother trying for a cocktail(his was disappointing on the first visit) so went with beer. They do have decent draft beer selection, but these days in Denton, a restaurant had better have some A game beer selection to keep up! I want to try them again in six months maybe – like I said, Denton is so in need of unique tasty eats! I wish they were at least priced at non-Uptown prices. Ugh.

Barley & Board is such a welcome addition to downtown Denton. It’s more exclusive feeling than almost 90% of every other spot in town, but it’s a great place to sit back and relax so it still fits in with the vibe. The inside is gorgeous with exposed walls and ceilings and low-lighting. The tables are beautiful whether you’re at a booth, small table, or long shared table, and the huge windows all along the side of the building make it unlike anything else on the block. They have a great selection of beer on tap with plenty of local stuff, and awesome cocktails and mixed drinks. Everything we’ve tasted so far has been top notch! The cheese board and the B&B Burger have been my favorites so far, but nothing has been bland or average. I highly recommend the fancy s’more thing they offer. Homemade marshmallow? You’re NOT killi’n me, Smalls. So yeah, best new place in town by far. You can’t go wrong going to B&B.
