We went to Hannah’s Off the Square for my girlfriends birthday(dinner). The staff: The hostess was unfriendly and ambivalent. Our waiter was very friendly and timely. We ordered an appetizer and one of the wait staff just dropped it on the table without saying a word or making eye contact. At this price level, I expect a more polished, professional staff. The food: Appetizer: We had Calamari Fritte. It has some breaded fried pepperoncini in it. It came with a very good tartar sauce and puttanesca. Excellent! Entrée: We both had Chicken Saltimbocca, prosciutto-wrapped Chicken Breast * Roasted Butternut Squash * Ricotta Manicotti * Brown Butter & Sage Cream. Very happy with this overall. Excellent presentation, very good taste. The Décor: Very nice, clean, wood and brick upscale. Price: We paid $ 70(pre-tip, we drank water) Overall: They would have hit a home run had the staff been a little better. I would definitely go here again.

We returned to Hannahs for a second try and this time service was good(pretty slow considering the few people in there on a late Sunday afternoon, but friendly enough waiter)…however, the food didn’t impress. We both got burgers and they were a huge let down(to be fair, we’ve had salmon and beef temderloin at dinner before that were both great!). I don’t think the meat had any seasoning at all… they needed salt and pepper at a bare minimum or a nice spice blend. The burger was huge, which would have been fine, but both my husband’s and I’s burger patties fell apart when trying to bite into the huge burger. They were out of sweet potato fries, as well as the bun I had requested, so we asked what other sides were available and our waiter rattled off a few and we chose truffle fries(come to find out later, this is a more expensive side item, which we weren’t informed of until the bill came). The fries were skinny and relatively good, but sort of tough(I know this doesn’t sound like it’d describe a fry, but it’ll make sense if you try them!). The appetizer fried green tomato caprese salad was ok, but the tomatoes weren’t quite ripe enough and were a little hard(same with the red tomato on my burger).and the balsamic glaze was drizzled on the plate, but there wasn’t really enough to actually put on the tomato/mozz. Overall, just underwhelmed for the amount that we paid. There’s also more flies than I would care to see, but we were seated inside right by the door to their patio. We really wanted to like this place, but it’s just too expensive and doesn’t consistently deliver. It’s also good service but extremely slow to get food out… maybe it’s just not our cup of tea! The dinners were pretty good, but only for rare occasions because it’s pretty expensive for what you get.

Have been here a few times, most recently for Sunday brunch. They have an awesome selection of juices for custom mimosas and as always, fabulous food. The service has never been exceptional, and on Sunday the hostesses never even smiled. The drinks were very slow to be delivered as well. Luckily the amazing food makes up for the lack of service. Would definitely give 5 stars if the service improved.

I have been here twice. The first time was really nice and the food was great. The second time I was very disappointed and will not return. What they call the«bread basket» is a hard crusty bread plate. The only thing that was acceptable was the butter and jelly that accompanied the stale and bland breads. I really should have sent it back but it was only $ 6 so I just lived with it. I figured they’d notice it was all still there when they took the plate away. What they describe as «migas» should be called a plate with eggs, bacon and sausage with 4 long tortilla strips sticking out for presentation. And there is typically cheese on the migas that I have had in the past. I also ordered the avocado which I didn’t receive and had to request again. Service was slow but I expected it. Don’t waste your money here. Drinks on the patio would probably be fine but don’t expect fast service. I wouldn’t waste money on the food. Denton has a lot of tastier options!

My mom has been coming here for a few years now and always talks so highly of the food. I was excited about this visit but pretty let down by the food. Don’t get me wrong it was good but nothing spectacular. Overrated in my opinion. We got the fried green tomatoes and mozzarella appetizer to start. If you wanna do fried green tomatoes to but some different and southern comfort food on your menu then by all means do it right. Season your cornmeal breading and pair it with a good lemon garlic aolie or some other good cold creamy dipping sauce. Don’t turn it in to a caprese salad. Talk about a let down. My husband got the beet salad and he was not impressed at all. The beets were very hard a very raw off putting flavor to them. He didn’t even eat half of it. I had the lobster bisque which was pretty good but I’ve definitely had better. For our main course I had the scallops with the basil lemon risotto. It was very fresh and perfectly cooked but beside the lemon was lacking so much in flavor it wasn’t funny. And there’s no salt and pepper on the table for you to add to your plate of you needed too. I wonder if they even had salt and pepper or any other spice for that matter in the kitchen. If your not going to allow your customers to salt and pepper their own food then please do so in the kitchen. My husband had the beef cheek ravioli which was good, probably the best thing we had. The server was nice and we never really had to ask for much as far as refills and she was very polite. The atmosphere is nice and romantic and quite for the most part. I guess my biggest issue is for the quality of food we got I felt like it was pretty over priced. I’m sure my mom will be back again but I personally could care less if I come back again. I wish it had been a better out come.

With all of these restaurants cropping up in Denton, Hannah’s does have some competition(well not really… See my reviews of some of the newer places). While the service and food is still very slow(painfully at times), at least the food is fresh, cooked to order and there is variety. There are a few items on the menu that never change(they can never rid of their calamari and salmon pâté or we would have a tantrum), but they also have daily specials and they change it up. They also are the only joint in town that serves their wine by the glass at the right temperature, in the right vessel and with a good selection to choose from. My current favorite is their lamb burger. Sorry for being so hard on this establishment in the past but would love to see the service more consistent.

I wish I could review our server separately because he definitely deserves 5 stars. He was a wonderful, attentive server! I wish I could remember his name because he was great. A guy with a bald head who was in his mid 20s I would guess? However, that and the décor were the only good parts about my first experience at Hannah’s. My family and I went there for Easter brunch and the food was underwhelming especially for the high price. Actually, «underwhelming» is an understatement. I was extremely disappointed with my food I only took a few bites of it. I’ve had a better brunch at a local diner that cost me $ 10 total. I had the Benedict dish and it was the worst Benedict dish I have ever had. The eggs were borderline boiled and chewy… I didn’t even know it was possible to mess that up so badly. Also, I understand that restaurants sit guests in sections for the waiter’s sake and I respect that. But the restaurant was not busy at all and we were crammed in one tiny little section with two other tables. Like I said, 5 stars for our waiter, he was absolutely wonderful. But if you’re looking for good brunch food. Don’t bother wasting your money here.

This place made me so sick. I had the chefs«special» for the night. I only ate half of it and my stomach hurt as soon as we were finished. I had to go to Walmart to get medicine for nausea. I don’t it was food poisoning, I think they have just such a high fat content in their food I couldn’t handle it. I had the pork loin with bacon and pig skin and sausage. I literally ate the whole pig. The description sounded much better than all the pig parts they put on top of my potatoes. My husband had the ahi tuna. It was good fish but covered in soy sauce. It just way to much salt content. This place just mad to much salt and to much food. They relied on that to much to make the flavor for their food. The pork loin was also over cooked and dry. I wanted to like this place. I was very hungry and it had great reviews. I wanted to give it more starts but I’ve Ben sick for over 14 hours now. The service was borderline annoying. The waitress was nice but overly attentive. She how the food was before we even tasted it. Then asked us how it was about 3 more times after that. We also had the calamari which was half calamari half fried onions. I was disappointed in that. I love calamari and I’m always up for it but every other bite was an onion and the dressing had green onions in it so it was just way to much onion. The onions were chopped and battered the same way as the calamari so I couldn’t even tell which one I was dipping into onion dip. I felt tricked. The table was very wide and I had to speak up for my husband to hear me, right in front of me. Won’t be going back to this place sadly. It’s to bad because there aren’t a whole lot of places to eat in Denton.

My dad calls Hannah’s «His new favorite place in town». I read about it on Unilocal and we decided to give it a try a few months ago. We had a fabulous first experience and have been back many times since as well as taken several friends. We like to sit at the bar. Try to count how many times the bar tenders shake their mixed drinks! It’s more than most. A few times we have done the cheese boards and never have we been disappointed. Roasted garlic, jumbo olives, ham, summer sausage, kalamata bread, pretzel bread, Vermont white cheddar, it’s all making my mouth water. My mom loved her tuna ceviche. We’ve never had anything disappointing including service and atmosphere.

My wife and I went here this evening for our anniversary and I have to say, the experience was stellar. We have been to a number of «fancy» and«nice» restaurants(steakhouses) in DFW, but there seems to be something that’s always missing. The missing ingredient was found at Hannah’s: originality! We started off with the smoked salmon appetizer, which was incredibly flavorful, yet light enough to not spoil dinner. For our main course, my wife had the trout special, while I had the tenderloin and lamb meatloaf special. Both were impeccable. My wife is not a meatloaf lover, but after insisting that she try mine, she actually asked for a second bite! Our waiter was perfectly timed and cordial and allowed us to enjoy our evening without being rushed. We will definitely be back to experience more of the menu soon!

My wife ate dinner here — she had the scallops and flourless chocolate cake. She has been in the bathroom all night vomiting. We suspect food poisoning from her Hannah’s dinner. UPDATE = The manager contacted me and was very helpful and polite. These things happen and I will not hold this against Hannah’s. I will continue to dine there and I think this is still the best formal dining experience in the Denton area.

My husband and I went to Hanna’s for our anniversary dinner tonight. I had the tomato soup which was delicious. It would have been nice to have been offered some bread of some kind. Hubby had the sirloin steak and I had the Wagyu steak. Both med rare. Both came as ordered. Mine was just delicious and my husband cleaned his plate. The steaks were both covered in a sauce with Brussels sprouts and you’d not find us unhappy with it. We were so full that we didn’t have dessert. If love to try the carrot cake, though.

I tried this place out, finally, and I’m glad I did. First off, the only reason I went out to eat this last Sunday was a strong craving for steak. Now, this is not a steak house, but Unilocal recommended it so I gave it a shot. We walked in at 11am Sunday and after a quick greeting we were asked if we had a reservation. So, I suppose you’ll want one of those if you decide to try this joint out. Fortunately, I suppose, we were told there was an open table for two available. Or waiter was new and about ¾ through or experience he let us know that, but I really would have wanted to know that up front honestly. The service was poor, our drinks never got a refill and the waiter didn’t know the menu. He said he’d been there three weeks so, I just don’t think it’s excusable and that’s the main reason this is a four star experience. By three weeks you should be capable. It was brunch so the menu was different, I think, from the typical. The only steak option I had was steak and eggs, which sounds awesome but… Okay, I’m used to something like a t bone and two sunny side up eggs and it’s okay this was different. But I got 4, 3-inch strips of well done steak(I ordered RARE) and scrambled eggs(no salt added or offered) with a side of salsa Verde and it was SEVENTEENDOLLARS. It’s a high dollar place, okay okay, but this did not mesh with the other items we ordered. To start I got a mimosa, very tasty and only 3.5, then we split an order of truffle Parmesan fries which were HUGE and amazing. Really, so good and only 13ish dollars. Then my partner had a BLT with green tomatoes and a ton of bacon and it was fantastic, completely worth the cost. So, I’m very disappointed with my order and the service but I’m willing to say the service could have caused my order to end up wonky. Either way, I want to go back but next time I might have to send my food back if it’s not on par.

Struggling between a 2 and 3-star rating. Having seen all the high ratings of this place, I decided to give it a go. Service was fine but they pretend to be better educated about the foods and wines than they actually are — I don’t have an issue with that, at least it shows they’re trying. The menu is filled with very nice sounding meals but as you read through it all the courses are over-complicated. The chef clearly has talent but is trying to satisfy everyone with with each serving and resulting cacophony of a dish that might otherwise be brilliant had he/she focused more on complimenting the main ingredient. My starter, a «caprese» with fried green tomatoes and Dallas mozzarella, was terrible; it was prepared as intended but it was best compared to a fried cheese you would buy at a major fast-food chain. A caprese is meant to be light and fresh, and leave you feel good and ready for the next course. This did the opposite. It was heavy and even with all the strong ingredients(fried batter, balsamic extract) it ended up dull. I ended up not even finishing it and wishing I had sent it back. Based on this one sampling I would have given Hannah’s a 1-star rating. For the main course, I tried the grilled Ahi Tuna with wasabi mash. **This was much better!** It was a pretty large portion — great if you’re really hungry — and the tuna & mash was fantastic. The only place this one lost big points was the amount of sauce, and the strength of it. The tuna was already competing with the wasabi mash potato, but then there was this slightly sweet soy sauce based gravy-like sauce covering the entire thing. The first few bites were great but it quickly became a negative on an otherwise wonderful dish. Although the starter was awful and the entre was very good, they both seem to be suffering from the same overall problem. Hannah’s needs to find a character that isn’t be all for all. They use great, fresh, farm to market ingredients — and I think that’s the philosophy they should remember when they are creating their next menu. If they do, I’ll be back.

Hannah’s is about as good as it gets for fine dining in Denton. The atmosphere is classy but they’ve still got the game on in the bar. Waiters are always courteous and attentive. Food is consistently flavorful and well prepared. Wine and beer selection are great as well. I would recommend the Pommes Frites for an appetizer. My wife and I get them pretty much every time and we could eat them forever. The lamb curry is really good for an appetizer, as well as the quail with jam. Definitely the best food for your money if you are looking to spend a little. I know Barley and Board just opened, but Hannah’s is a classic for a reason.

My husband and I love this place for a date night. The truffle fries are delicious, I love the scallops(although a couple times one or two of them have been undercooked), the Chicken Saltimbocca is very tasty, and it has a great atmosphere, especially on the back patio. It’s pricey, but fun for a special night out!

We’ve been to Hannah’s before, and it was darn near fabulous. However, tonight, we sat at the bar and the service was terrible. Food: okay. We had calamari to start(mediocre), sea scallops(not bad) and the tenderloin(there’s a reason they have to put sauce on it). Drinks: my wine was excellent. My husband’s martinis… IFYOUWANTTOBE A LEGITIMATEBAR, DONOTMEASUREEVERYTHINGYOUSERVE. They use jiggers and counters for all drinks. Every time we visit, the martinis are short. Upscale restaurants(such as Kenny’s, Pappa’s, etc) do not do this. Service: not good. We had to ask multiple times for drink refills, both water and alcohol. And this was at the bar! Atmosphere: meh. Several off-duty and on– duty waiters sat around the bar complaining about how slow it was… Yet we had to continually request refills. The place was less than half full.

I’ve been to Hannah’s about 100 times. It’s a solid 3.5 The food isn’t really that great but if you have nothing to compare it to then I see why there are so many 5 star reviews. The service is pretty good what you would expect from the price point. The dishes are kinda boring with not a lot of flavor. The reason I’ve been there there so much is mostly because there isn’t much selection in Denton when it comes to fine dining. My husband and I never have left Hannah’s and thought«damn, that was a good meal»

Hannah’s has consistently YUMMY food and well informed servers. Only issue I have ever encountered was speed of service. Last time I came for brunch it seemed quite under staffed and it was not busy, food and drinks were taking a long time for what seemed like no apparent reason. However, I have been a server before and I know things can easily go wrong and it throws the whole place off. I will definitely be returning for brunch again though. If the weather is nice, the patio is a really great spot!

In a town like Denton, who would expect this place… no one… unless you search thru Unilocal. And so I did and found this lovely establishment. When you get to the location, do not be discouraged by the outside premises… go inside door and explore before leaving… Took my colleague here together with the supplier and boy did we enjoy our business meeting dinner. Ordered a bottle of Malbec and 2 cocktails to start with. Couldn’t remember the name of my drink but it was light and refreshing We started off with the eggplant appetizer with crab and it was good reco by our server. Just enough for us 3 and good portion of crab meat I had the special salad for the night which was spinach with brie and blueberries. YUM I had the OSSOBUCCO for dinner which was superb. Super tender, meat falling off the bones … just what I wanted. The two bones came off easily. My coworkers had the scallop fish which were both tasty. For dessert of course I had to get the carrot cake and trust me you should too. DONOT miss out on this lovely piece of dessert. I am not a dessert person but I had to have this. It was moist, and had the right amount of sweetness. I will definitely come back to Hannah’s again when I’m in Denton. Don’t miss it.

You can’t beat Hannah’s for a great happy hour with martinis and their wonderful cheese boards. We’ve also had some of their dinners, and well worth the prices you pay. This time, we were there for Easter brunch, slipping into the bar area which is open seating. My brunch time doesn’t wait for anyone! There was an amazing quinoa bowl, full of berries and Greek yogurt. Salmon crepes– that my friend did not even offer to let me try. My vegetarian Denton Bunny, which was a piece of jalapeño cheese sourdough, topped with two fried green tomatoes, two sunny side up eggs and Hollandaise. Delicious! My hubby even enjoyed his Mexican style breakfast plate! Honestly, I couldn’t finish my plate and wished someone had split with me. I feel that way about all their plates though. So, try it, you will thank me.

I came here with a group on a Tuesday evening. It wasn’t busy, not even half full. The restaurant is nice, although there was a funky smell when we walked in. Renovations are currently ongoing, so that could’ve been the source of the smell. The menu was extensive and it was hard deciding on what I wanted to order. There was a variety of seafood and meats. All 5 of us ended up ordering seafood, all different menu items, however. The server seemed attentive at first, but things went downhill after we ordered. From the time we ordered to the time our food was delivered was OVERANHOUR. Literally, we sat there for over an hour waiting. A couple who came after us seemed to get everything before us, including their main courses. The food was mostly delicious, I will say that. I ordered scallops that came with lemon risotto and fried shallots. The scallops were small and there were only 4, but the flavor was excellent. The risotto was too lemony for my taste. I also ordered hot tea, which was an experience. It was fresh and came in some kind of decatur. After we were done our waiter seemed to take forever to clear our plates, then was definitely paying more attention to the couple next to us. Overall, I was pleased with the food but the wait to get it was such a turn off that I don’t know if I’d go back there. I understand it’s a nice restaurant, but waiting over an hour is too much, no matter how fancy the restaurant is.

We were passing though Denton after a funeral and the girlfriend was wanting to stop for lunch. She had been talking about it for a few days and we had the time so we stopped. She nailed this restaurant choice. Man of man is Hannah’s great. Hannah’s bills itself as a fresh ingredient restaurant where everything is Farm to Market. Chef Sheena does an impeccable job in coming up with the mouth watering dishes on her menu. We started with the Fried Green Tomatoes. These were probably some of the best I’ve had, still crunchy and not over cooked at all. The balsamic sauce with mozzarella topped of this appetizer. The girlfriend ordered the Ahi Burger and I got the Parmesan Rainbow Trout. the Ahi burger was absolutely amazing. Seared perfectly, seasoned perfectly, and paired perfectly with a jalapeño mayo and wasabi greens. Simply delicious. The trout was equally amazing. It had a lemon risotto that matched perfectly with the dish. The service was great and the atmosphere very cozy and enjoyable. Hannah’s Off the Square is a top notch joint that earns ten times over every compliment they get.

My boyfriend had to come to Denton today, so I thought we would treat ourselves to a nice meal! Wow a fabulous meal is what we got! We started out with a few adult beverages. He ordered the Audacity Brew House beer, love supporting local businesses! He actually didn’t care for it and ordered the Martin house IPA for his second drink. I got the Bloody Mary. It was perfectly spicy and came with a pickled okra and olive. For an appetizer we got the fried green tomatoes with mozzarella cheese and balsamic vinegar. The combination of the three was incredible! For the main course he got the Parmesan Rainbow Trout Lemon Risotto Roma Tomato & Balsamic Basil Salad. The fish was huge and cooked perfect. I feel a theme coming on… All the flavors combined were delish! I ordered the Ahi Burger! Watch out it is spicy! Thankfully I love spicy! And the toasted egg bun! Well it was warm and buttery and my mouth is watering thinking about it. I lived in denton for 6 years and Hannahs always impressed and still does! Glad I could share one of my college favs with my boyfriend!
