We had El Guapo’s cater our wedding reception for us. We are still getting compliments and people asking where we had the food catered from. Mike was AMAZING and helpful throughout the process and delivered exactly what he told us he would! We are extremely glad we chose El Guapo’s as our caterer and cannot recommend them enough!

Le sigh… here we go. This time was my second visit. The first time there a year ago was amazing. This time not so much. We decided to venture out to El Guano’s for dinner and after the long day we had we were hungry. We stepped inside and were seated instantly. The place was pretty empty for a Friday night in a college town but we didn’t think much about it. Ordered a margarita and it was pretty decent. The service wasn’t bad and the server was attentive. The food came out in a good amount of time. The issue was the food quality. I got the carnitas fajitas and my friends had the mixed fajitas. The carnitas were dry and the flavor just was not there. I did not even finish half of my meal. The beef skirt steak was low quality and tough. Needed to marinated longer or tenderized. Something overall was just missing this visit. We were disappointed and not sure if we would go back. The food quality has to come up for sure for us to go back. It was not horrible but it has been better.

Why is this place so popular? Very dirty and run down. Sangria swirl was the only thing worth the visit.

Great food and service. Must try the shrimp and cheese quesadillas on tomato basil tortilla. The flavors burst in your mouth. Don’t forget to order the margaritas with love.

Even though many people vouched for El Guapo’s, I believe it’s just another decent Tex-Mex place. It’s more Tex than Mex though. It’ll get busy at night and on the weekend. I only go here with friends in a group; but for myself or a smaller group, I rather spend time in a more down home and smaller restaurants in town.

Extremely rude hostess followed by a slow and rude waitress. Didn’t get to try the food as we were never served. Left after waiting for chips for 10 minutes. At least we got our waters.

NOTREALMEXICANFOOD. i make better tacos and queso at the house. if you dont know anything about authentic mexican food then this is the place for you. if you dont know what Horchata is this place is for you because they dont either. if you think you want taco bell but just a little bit better and it brought to you by a waiter than this place is for you. north Texas is a let down when it comes to this. my family and i went to this place today and granted it was in the middle of the week in between the lunch and dinner hours but the only reason this review is getting 2 stars is because there was only one other table of people in there so my kids were not bothering anyone making the atmosphere easy to handle.

I went to El Guapos for the first time yesterday and thought it was fantastic. We had great service abd I was surprised how inexpensive drinks and food were. Are there Mexican restaurants with higher quality food out there? Yes. But for the price, I thought the food was great and you get a lot of it. Drinks were also tall, strong and cheap. I will be going back more often.

El Guapos truly is an ‘a-ok’ joint. Just floating in the sea of tex-mex restaurants and not really standing out. Their enchiladas are forgettable. The only reason I’d come back is for a big bowl of their tortilla soup.

Our party of 10 or so people seated right away on a Sat around 1pm. Service was fast, food was hot. You have to ask to see the waiter’s «cheat sheet» because they don’t have a table cocktail/drink menu. Tried a taco, chicken enchiladas, beans & rice plus a sangria swirl margarita. Food was okay — nothing that will cause a midnight craving, but okay. Drink tasted light on alcohol and too sour. Price point for everything was indicative of a good value. Cleanliness of the restaurant(and lighting) needs work. Go for it without expectations/high hopes and you’ll be okay.

we had good service and the manager was very responsive. the food was not up to par. The only person at our table who ate his meal was a starving 14 year old. the stars are for the service and for the fact that the manager noticed we weren’t eating and asked why. I wish the food was better, but I’ve tried this place twice and was disappointed each time.

Great food and great service. We were brought homemade flour tortilla with the chips and salsa. It’s pretty rare to get great homemade tortillas at any Mexican restaurant and not pay Uncle Julios prices. I had the chili Rellenos and was very impressed. I will definitely be back.

We had El Guapo as a catered lunch and the meal was terrible. The beef had an odd texture that was almost pasty and little flavor. The chicken was also bland… it was like chicken stewed in salsa with a little enchilada sauce. The veggies were bitter and bland. I realize catering isn’t good as food as in restaurant, but this was just so bad I was shocked to hear where it was from.

This was the worst dining experience I have ever had! I know that seems dramatic but I typically allow a little slack having worked most of my career in the service industry. From the second you walk in there is an overwhelming pungent smell of old grease and bleach. After sitting down we noticed how filthy everything was, I posted a pic of under the tablecloth and all of them are like that! I was there with a large group from work so I had to order something. I’m honestly afraid I’ll be sick!

This is one of my top Mexican food spots in Denton. The food is all great. Really can’t go wrong with anything. The tortillas, guac, queso, salsa, and beans are all just top notch. The only thing that keeps it from being a five is the décor and dining rooms. It’s dark and strangly empty and open feeling. You won’t be taking anyone here to impress them with atmosphere.

Eh. Friends and I went here because the other restaurant we had planned had zero parking within a reasonable range and we definitely wanted mexican. I guess I should have been more specific that I wanted good tex-mex and not over-greasy, flavorless tex-mex. Next time I’ll know to provide those details. Not only were the chips slightly burnt and greasy, the flautas so over-cooked and oily that I could literally see THROUGH them and pour out the grease on my plate, but my friend’s enchilada was luke-warm like our waiter had forgotten it. Speaking of the service, when we arrived they were maybe half-full and we could clearly see seven or eight open tables that were fully bussed. Now, I understand not wanting to overwhelm one of the waitstaff, but if you’ve got that many tables open you may need to hire an extra person if your current staff has to leave that many tables empty. We ended up walking into the bar when we were told there’d be a twenty minute wait, and grabbed one of the MANY empty tables in the bar. The hostess walked in like she was pissed off and gave us all menus, which surprised us because we had just planned to grab a few beers while we waited. Instead we were begrudgingly served mediocre food in the bar. My friends and I were actually laughing at how awkward it was to talk to the waiter we got, and although my BFF says their food is great I definitely won’t be joining her at El Guapo’s again.

I love Mexican food, but I was wary of trying it in Denton. El Guapo’s was seriously addictive. I’m not saying they put actual crack in the queso, but I’m saying that no one in my party could get enough, and we almost came to blows over it. It’s that good. The fajitas were perfectly seasoned and the service was great.

This was my first time here and despite some of the negative reviews, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The first thing that caughty attention was the sign at the door that said, «No we don’t have wi-fi. Talk to each other.» Then we were promptly seated. The service was great(we had a smiling waiter) and the food was great too! Talk about portions! You’ll need a to-go box for sure. About the restaurant itself… many people have said how run-down it is, but I say those are the ones who enjoy the corporate, neon-lit Mexican food restaurants we all know the names of. This place is REAL and comfortable and laid back. It’s a part of a small town dining experience in the big city. Oh, the VERY first indicator of a good restaurant? The parking lot was packed! Yeah, you should go. I know I will!

I used to be a real fan of this place. The service was decent, the food was good, and atmosphere was pleasant though a little worn looking. I was there for dinner the other night, and it seems that the only thing that has changed is the staff. The place is still worn in, though more so than before. Both bathrooms were a wreck– neither stall seemed in any condition to close. Our waiter was obviously new, so I can’t blame him for much. Beer selection was stuck in the 80’s. With all of the other restaurants branching our in that area, I was disappointed that my choices were limited to 4 bland tap beers and whatever they happened to have in a bottle. To top it off, the burrito I ordered, appeared to be covered in melted Velveeta. Bland at best. I used to really enjoy this place, so it makes me sad to see that they’ve gone so far downhill.

I’d have to say this place serves Meh-xican food. It’s not super gross, but not exactly good either. Kind of like the Chili’s of Mexican food? I know to some it might be a classic Denton favorite, but I’ve been a few times and have never been able to get into it. Also, I was very disappointed in their mango margarita. It was definitely made with some crappy mix that kept separating as it sat in my glass. It looked really gross and I had to keep stirring it up before each sip, and it just didn’t taste good. It’s not bad for big parties, it’s got the space, but I don’t think it’s worth the average food. I’d much rather go to the chain restaurant Chuy’s than here, which is rare. I usually prefer local places, but not this one. I can’t recommend it.
