I visited Rudy’s for the first time on Memorial Day. I had never been to a Rudy’s so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was looking for a platter, a price that included meat and a side or two but looking at the menu I quickly realized there were no options like that. I found the guy at the cash register very dull would not explain anything to me just stood there watching me looking confused at the menu. He wouldn’t speak to us unless we specifically asked him a question he wasn’t friendly at all, terrible first impression. I ordered the brisket, new potatoes and coleslaw. Extremely expensive for those three items. The brisket was very good but it was cold the new potatoes were my favorite they were excellent the coleslaw was just chopped cabbage and dry. I did not like the big deep trays they serve the food in. I would’ve liked my meat to have been on a plate or in some type of container not just thrown in this big deep tray. The barbecue sauce sitting at the table was in large bottles, I would’ve preferred a smaller bottle the large bottles were heavy and hard to get the sauce out of. This experience being my first time at Rudy’s was just OK not sure I would ever go back since there are better barbecue places in Denton.

By far the worst experience over the last 7 years of being a Rudy’s customer. I should have expected seeing a pretty scarce population of patrons during dinner that meats would be sub par. The turkey is always our go to(we catered it for our wedding), but tonight it was so dry and over seasoned it was hard to make it through a couple bites. Not to mention it had an off putting grey color to it like it was a couple days old and the owner didn’t want to lose product, so just reheat it(hence the dryness). Brisket was just okay and the pork ribs were awful. Oh and our favorite side, creamed corn… Don’t get me started. It was so watery and lacked in any flavor. There were unknown swimming components but absolutely nothing binding the corn to the milk in the bowl. I am just surprised that this location in Denton could be so far off from the rest of the locations around. I will not be returning to this store unless they go through a serious overhaul. Feel like a waste of $ 46 for a family dinner.

Anyplace that sells moist brisket, that’s actually moist from the juicy fat layered in it is a winner in my book. Not only do they sell cheap delicious breakfast tacos, but you can also buy meat from their full menu in the morning. I have been guilty of picking up 1 pound of moist brisket before 10AM in the drive thru window-super convenient. Come here for breakfast tacos and moist brisket. Not sure if I’ve mentioned moist brisket enough so here we go again, moist brisket, moist brisket, moist brisket, moist brisket, moist brisket. Okay I think y’all got the point, get the breakfast tacos and moist brisket.

Consistent with all other Rudy’s, especially in the metroplex. Best BBQ in Denton. There, I said it. Yes, better than all the local places.

My mom brought me here and I didn’t know what to expect when I first came here because it had it’s own gas pumps and looked pretty basic ATFIRST. Than I saw they had a patio area with the country music playing and some pretty lights. After going inside, the place looked huge and was very cool. Plenty of seating and plenty of things to look at. Than after having the giant baked potato with pulled pork, I knew this was a diamond in the rough. I’m very please with my visit and will be coming back soon!

Our instructors take us here, I’ve never had a Texas BBQ before, the beef and the turkey are good, but the bread is so bad, homemade ones will be better rather than Walmart bread.

Now that Bet the House is open, they are giving this location a run for their money. We went to Rudy’s last night with 6 adults, we got a ton of brisket, chicken, ribs, potato salad, cole slaw and beans. Spent so much they gave us 2 loaves of bread and a bottle of sauce. I’ve been a fan of Rudy’s since they opened this location. Maybe last night was an off night. The char was okay but the fatty brisket and ribs just weren’t that great. I buried the dry meats in sauce. The chicken was good. The sides were actually what I thought was the best. I love their potato salad, beans and cole slaw. Most of my party felt like the slaw needed salt & pepper. I did not and appreciate the fact it wasn’t mayo based slaw. I thought that was fine. I also loved the condiment bar and got plenty of raw onion, whole jalapenos mixed with sliced carrots(yum) and pickles. But, I don’t go to a BBQ place for the sides. I go for the meats and I felt let down after that experience. It was probably a bad night but it made me want Bet the House for some Texas style BBQ or even Juicy Pig for a Carolina style BBQ even more.

Good Smoke and Seasoning. We were all satisfied with the flavors and really like the«cook-out» décor that is so popular with Texas BBQ. The Moist Brisket had great flavor and the St Louis Ribs had a really nice peppery seasoning, although were a little tough in spots. The Baby Back Ribs were more meaty and also peppery with a pork chop-taste. It’s probably the type of rib, but the meat didn’t come clean off the bone with either. My daughter got a smoked potato with pulled pork, which was enormous and full of flavor. The sides a little above the typical Texas-style, but still a bit lacking. Good enough for another try and I want to taste the sausage next time.

Every time I come to Texas from Alabama I always make it a point to eat at Rudy’s BBQ. Brisket isn’t big in Alabama for some reason but I love getting the moist brisket at Rudy’s. There are always great people at Rudy’s and today was no exception. Everyone was really nice and helpful plus my wife and I got a military discount which we really appreciated. I will continue to visit Rudy’s where ever I visit friends and family in the Great State of Texas!

I’ve heard about Rudy’s for a long time but didn’t have an opportunity to try it until now. I really like the rustic feel of the restaurant. It gets pretty busy around lunch time, I went real early and I was done before 11.30AM and the parking lot was already getting quite full. I tried a few different meats from their menu. Their brisket was good, nice smoky flavor and tender. Their sausage was REALLY good. I can’t remember having had any better flavored smoked sausage before. The pulled pork was also good with lot’s of flavor. Their baby back ribs was OK, not bad but I’ve had better. I’m really liking this place, it’s definitely on my short list of BBQ restaurants along with Hard 8.

Rudy’s is a chain BBQ restaurant and gas station, with locations expanding into multiple southern states. With that in mind, it’s pretty dang good for a chain. I know a mom and pop BBQ restaurant will probably always beat it, but I’ve had consistent positive experiences at the Denton Rudy’s location. It’s not cheap and get pricey with a big appetite, but that’s par for the course with BBQ. I like that they have two different kinds of sauce based on your heat preference, both made as store specialty and available for take-home purchase. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve had here, although the meat can be a little drier depending on the time of day you visit. All-in-all, a solid food stop, especially if you need seating to accommodate a larger group. Keep in mind, they’ve also got a drive through to make it easy if you don’t have time to sit down. The best menu tips I’ve got: if you’re there for breakfast, go brisket/egg/cheese and add the sauce + salsa. At lunch, I typically go with ¼ lb. lean brisket and split a ½ sausage link and always leave full. They provide bread at no cost to make your own sandwich adorned with all the pickles, onions, and peppers your heart can stand from the fixins bar. A small side of potato salad(which is delicious) will go further than you think with two people, and they’ve got extra cups near the drink station to make splitting easier. In the winter, you can get a big baked potato loaded with brisket. Ohhh yeah.

Update: I have to drop a star because I realized how expensive Rudy’s is during my last visit. I got the half pound of turkey, one small side, and a fountain drink and it was $ 14. That’s quite expensive for what it is.

Worst. Rudy’s. Ever. First of all, Rudy’s has been one of my favorite bbq places for years. I am planning on having them cater my upcoming wedding(definitely not this one). The two stars are only because I still love Rudy’s as a whole. Ribs we ordered were so cold it was if they had them on ice with the beer. The black trays they serve food on were the nastiest I’ve ever seen. The two we had looked like they would need to be washed with a power washer to get clean. Tried to use the bathroom and an employee was in there. For 15 minutes.

Born in Texas… I look for good barbecue! This will be the place I stop at for some good barbecue and sides. Is it the best I’ve had? No, but it definitely satisfies the cravings. The menu is à la carte and you can order for bulk if needed. I went to try their breakfast and it was very good. Their brisket and egg breakfast taco is really good! I also like the chorizo and egg and the potato and egg tacos. You forget sometimes that this is also a «gas station». I’ve never stopped here for gas, but the prices always seem to be pretty cheap. Oh! And they have a drive thru!

The moist brisket and pulled pork were well seasoned and prepared to our liking. However, the sides we chose were lacking. The potato salad needed basic salt and pepper. The cole slaw was just chopped cabbage and a sprinkling of carrots; no mayo, vinegar, or seasoning of any kind. While I didn’t try the beans, others in my party said they had a nice smoky flavor but could use a dash of salt. Overall okay, the meats saved it.

Rudy’s has always been good for brisket and sausage and it definitely still is. Sandwiches are the best deal — a ‘moist’ brisket sandwich for $ 5.49 had at least or more than the ½ pound Rudy’s sells for $ 8.50. Fresh, split buns, buttered and grilled — very nice. My turkey-worshipping eating partner(he orders turkey in some form everywhere we go) was lovin’ himself some turkey sandwich, so all good on that front. On Fridays and Saturdays Rudy’s has added peppered prime rib and peppered tenderloin, but we asked for a sample of tenderloin and when it was almost all gristle we decided against getting any to go. Tenderloins are probably the easiest cut of all to cook. You should at least be able to find a decent sample on one. Side dishes are one step from pre-packaged and desserts ARE prepackaged. Unless you stick to sandwiches, it’s not worth the money.

Rudy’s is nice country store right in the heart of Denton. Its mainly a BBQ restaurant, they also have a small store and sell gas! TIP: All the meats are sold by the pound, avoid buying the pricey sandwiches which come on hamburger buns and opt for getting more meat for your money and get the free bread(which I prefer to the bun anyway). Their homemade cream corn and green chile stew are my go to favorites! Their banana pudding and rice krispy bars are homemade and delightful!

Now this was probably the best Texas experience I was able to have this past weekend. This place is awesome. Outdoor patio seating, country music, yummy BBQ and«Sissy sauce» for those of us like me who don’t like anything too spicy. The staff was fast and friendly. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and a side of bean salad. Both were fantastic. Lots and lots of meat piled high on a soft warm bun. The meat was tender and juicy and there wasn’t a lot of fat on it which I really like. Of course you have to add pickles and a dash of extra sauce. This sandwich made my tummy smile in a big way. The bean salad was pretty good too. Nothing out of the ordinary but still pretty fresh tasting. They have a huge selection of beers, sodas and juices for everyone to choose from in large iced buckets. Everything is nice and icy cold. Plus it was fully stocked. I saw beers in there that I didn’t even know existed. Overall this place was great with awesome food, service and a Texas vibe to it. Hope to make it down here again someday.

If you spend much time in Texas, Rudy’s is familiar. It’s a great place to come with a buddy for lunch or with a large group for dinner. This location is ideal for fans going to sporting events at UNT or those driving on 35. It’s right on the highway and delivers solid BBQ at a fair price, with great service and a roomy, clean dining area. Rudy’s succeeds by delivering consistency in their meats. To be real, their turkey is some of the most tasteful, juiciest and tender I’ve ever had. My nephews, who are finicky with all food that isn’t a chicken tender demolished the turkey here and admitted they loved it. How many kids between 5 – 7 do you know who will say that after being stubborn and fighting trying it? On this night, their brisket was very tender, and fat free, but was dry, which dropped the rating a bit. As for their green chili stew, I enjoy it, but it’s not your typical New Mexico green chili soup, still very good, however and complete with real pieces of meat. The sides are slightly above average, but we come here for the meat, not the sides. Rudy’s is a great place to relax and enjoy a meal or scarf it down and get back on the road. There’s an endless option of soft drinks, teas, bottle drinks, etc, and tasty banana pudding and chocolate budding to wash down any sauce still in your mouth.

After living right-smack-dab next to this place, I must admit I am going to miss it(and honestly this is the only part of Denton I’m going to miss…) Anyway, the food is always good(not 4 star BBQ but definitely still delish) and plenty of options. Brisket and sausage is yummy, sides are a plenty, and I love that they have peppers out, too. Great prices and usually not a long wait. Friendly folks workin’ there, too.
