We went here for the first time after hearing so much about it over the past 2 years. They are under new management and have changes the name to Las Lomas. I am not sure if it was just an off day for them, but I was not satisfied. I ordered the carne Guisada gordita and 2 Barbacoa tacos. The gordita was extremely dry and even with the salsa was hard to eat. I was disappointed because I Waited to long to try this place. The tacos had very little meat… However, my husband’s burrito was good. Maybe I’ll go earlier in the day on my next visit.

The food is alright but the service sucks. Go across the street to Guanajuato great food right there

I would break up with my boyfriend for a carne guisada gordita from Taco Lady. This place is the best taco place in all of Denton and anyone that disagrees must work for Rusty Taco. This is another one of those places where you can follow the patron ethnicity rule. I don’t even think I could trust a taco place full of white people at this point. The place is a small, order at the counter kind of joint and the menu is basic and well priced. The meat cuts in the carne asada were tender, juicy, and effing delicious. I had a few breakfast tacos as well which were pretty good too although it’s a one tortilla kind of taco as opposed to my preferred two tortilla street taco. I’m pretty sure the corn tortillas were not made on site, but were good regardless. Overall it was one of those food experiences that makes me curse all other similar food operations for their shoddy attempts at the real thing. I can’t wait to go back to Taco Lady.

Best Mexican in Denton, maybe all of Metroplex. Hole in the wall Mexican restaurant that has great tortillas. My suggestion is Enchiladas con pollo

I discovered Taco Lady 7 years ago when I moved to Denton. We had just unpacked the moving van and we were starving! I noticed the signs for the restaurant earlier and decided I wanted to check it out. As far as I am concerned nobody comes close to Taco Lady’s barbacoa! I find myself comparing other restaurant’s barbacoa to Taco Lady. I am disappointed each and every time. I’m going to stop talking now because I can’t get to this wonderful hidden gem… getting mad just thinking about it…

Because I could never tell where they were(relative to the sign facing McKinney), I never tried Taco Lady until last week. Finally I parked in front of the laundromat and wandered around until, behind the building, I discovered this gem of a taqueria. Like a previous reviewer I ordered three tacos: Carne Asada(Grilled Beef), Carne Guisada(Beef with Hot Sauce) and Chicharron(Pork Skins) and enjoyed all three. A bottle of green sauce on the table was all the condiment necessary. I thought of ordering three more but saved my coins for next time. Maybe tomorrow! This isn’t a full service, candlelight dinner restaurant. It’s a taqueria with tables. They’re perfectly good tables and chairs.

I was looking for some good breakfast tacos and decided to try Taco Lady. I was a little bit disappointed. I ordered a bacon and egg breakfast taco, and a bacon, egg, and potato. The bacon, egg, and potato was definitely the best out of the two, but both tacos had a pretty weak bacon to egg ratio. The bacon was chopped up very finely and mixed in with the eggs — almost like they were using bacon bits. So there wasn’t much flavor there. The tortillas were good, but overall I think I’ll probably try another place next time for breakfast tacos.

I visited Taco Lady with my best friend and her boyfriend(who went to UNT, so lived near Taco Lady). He recommended we try this as they were some of the best tacos around. Having lived in Houston for 5 years, and working in Hotels with a lot of Latino’s, I have tasted some pretty awesome food, so I was a bit skeptical. When we arrived at Taco Lady, it was definitely a Dive… complete with flies and unsanitary looking tables. Don’t let that deter you from ordering(i recommend Barbacoa ANYTHING). The Tacos were definitely good, not the best i had ever had, but they definitely were the best i had in that area. Give Taco Lady a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Went there for lunch and had one barbecoa and one carne asada taco in flour tortillas. Yum … they are so much better than typical fast food tacos, and served just as fast! It’s a simple place — maybe 8 tables in a plain dining room, but there is some fun stuff hanging on the walls. The people who work there are friendly. It’s only open for breakfast and lunch. I’m going back!

Comida de Dios! Love the puerco gordita and carne’ guisada gordita. The chicken was a little dry but I’d give it another shot. Really small dining area but not too uncomfortable.

:GRITO: Yes, yes, and yes. Finally a place in Denton that offers great breakfast tacos! I’ve gotten the, «oh you want great breakfast tacos? Try Mi Casita.» Bleh. Taco Lady knows what’s up. The tacos are a bit small, but they are definitely worth it. The people there were really nice as well. I recommend the barbacoa tacos — top it off with Mexican Coke!

I now get why the reviews vary. It depends on when you come in. They were out of corn tortillas and tamales one of our last visits. We ended up with store bought flour tortillas that time, and less than friendly service. They heated the flour tortillas, which made the tacos pretty good. Not as good as the first visit. This last trip, the tacos were just bad. The barbacoa was gristly and the corn tortillas were cheap-y store bought.(You know the type… not the nice ones, but the dry, white, thick ones that start cracking when you try to hold the taco.) Not even reheated. Just out of a bag. Sigh. This sets up a dilemma. Do you ask for the homemade corn tortillas, and then pretend to have forgotten your wallet when they say they don’t have fresh? I wouldn’t go back based on my last tortillas, but I’m craving the ones we got the first time.

The first time I went here was because my neighbor need help doing a little house cleaning job and he offered up lunch. I had passed Taco Lady many times but had never stopped by. Boy did I miss that one. This little taqueria is the best kind of hole-in-the-wall you can stumble upon. Everything is homemade. The last time I was there(which has been many) I saw them making the tortillas, which was really a great thing to see. Everything is inexpensive but you go there for the street tacos that they serve with onions, cilantro and shredded cabbage. All meat choices are great and I am a fan of their lengua and carnitas. Burritos and Tortas are also a good meal. Salsa is homemade in red and green versions and both add to whatever meal you prefer. The only downside is they are usually closed by 3pm and I sometimes wish they’d extend the hours… then again, I wouldn’t have found out about the Taqueria across the street either.

Taqueria’s don’t get more legitimate than this little dive. When I think of the word Taqueria, it has to be a dive. I do not say the word dive as a bad thing. Look at my 5 stars. This is a very very good thing. It was my last day in Texas and my brother wanted to take me to one of his favorite Taco joints in town. Taco joints down here are like Starbucks in other cities(they have plenty of those here too). There is one on every corner and in this part of town there are literally 2 right next to each other as well as 2 more just a block or so away. This seems to be his favorite. Once we walked in the door, I knew I was in the right place. You can see inside the small kitchen once you enter and we saw a woman making the tortillas with her hands. Perfect. Walk up to the counter, take a look at the small handwritten menu above and order away. The menu is not huge, but they have just about anything a taco fan could ask for. Tacos are $ 1.50 each. I probably could’ve eaten one of each, but instead I only got 3. Carne Asada(Grilled Beef), Carne Guisada(Beef with Hot Sauce) and Chicharron(Pork Skins). All tacos come with cabbage which is an nice addition. They don’t have Lengua on the menu and I was a bit disappointed by that, but what are you going to do? What they do have is very good. We took them to go and they gave us a bunch of hot sauce which I imagine is made in house, but not sure and we headed home to gorge. The beef tacos were very good. Full of flavor and the hot sauce that I added didn’t take away any of the flavor from that meat. It just added another dimension. The Chicharron taco was a revelation. The consistency was different from what I was expecting. Tender instead of crunchy. Good times were had by my mouth. You have your choice of Taqueria’s here. They are probably all good. I can only vouch for the Taco Lady.

Till this day I never understood why people would step foot into taco bell if they had a choice to go to the one and only taco lady in Denton. Taco lady is the real thing! The epitome of real Mexican food with good fresh flavors(shhh I have not been to Mexico). I love the two choices of sauce from the bottle though I don’t know what it’s called :(Don’t expect anything fancy schmancy inside. It’s just a simple place with a few tables and chairs. My only complain is that they do not open for dinner *sob*

Went with co-workers today and I will definitely be going back. FOOD: The tacos are pretty authentic, reminds me of the tacos I had when I went to Mexico. I first ordered one Barbacoa(shredded beef) taco and one spicy pork taco. I gobbled it up pretty fast, they are not that big. I ordered three more tacos: one Barbacoa, one spicy Pork and I added one Chicharron. My favorite is the Barbacoa… very tasty. Pork was not spicy at all but it also did not taste bad. The Chicarron(Pork Skin) also was seasoned pretty well but not my favorite. They have two sauces, the red and the green. I was told that the spiciness of the sauces varies on the batch they make. The one today was not that spicy but enough kick for you to appreciate the taste of the marinated meat. I ordered all of the tacos on Corn tortilla. I like the chopped cilantro and onions they place over the meat. PRICE: Reasonably priced… three tacos for less than five dollars. SERVICE: Really fast!!! **we did get there early around 11:30am AMBIANCE: Place is really small, nothing great about it. I can even describe it as hole in a wall place but I knew not to expect anything about the place since I was told it was behind a laundromat.

This is a definitive taco spot. I usually get carne guisada tacos and carna asada gorditas. Flavor is there, it’s simple, it’s a classic taco. The gordita shell is the 2nd best I’ve had in town, also a damn good dish. This place is solid Mexican street food, no wild flavors, nothing exotic… simply solid, affordable tacos. I eat here about 2x per week.

I don’t understand why this place isn’t rated better. It may not be Taqueria El Fuego in Richardson, but it is pretty good, especially in the Denton/Flower Mound area. I had trepdiations first about this place because I had read that people had found it ‘dirty’ and ‘unclean’. But I found it looking like a regular hole-in-the-wall restaurant, except for it being nestled behind a launderia. There are three things I go here for — the tacos, gorditas, and the tamales. The tacos taste fresh and I highly recommend paying a bit extra for onions and lettuce. If you find your taco dry, put sauce on it. If you are getting take-out, they usually put sauce in your bag. If you eat there, they have sauce on every table. Your mouth will be on fire by the end, so make sure you bring a drink or buy a drink there. And another suggestion is to get the corn tortillas, not flour. The gorditas are tasty too. The ingredients again taste fresh and before the Taco Lady, I didn’t even know what was a gordita was. Eeek! Now I understand the error of my ways. The gorditas are a bit cleaner to handle because they don’t fall apart as easily as the tacos. Plus, there is only one end where everything can fall out. My favourites are the barbacoa and the carne asada fillings, but my mom likes the chicken the best. My least favourite is the pork skins. Now, the tamales are only on Friday. They sell out really fast, and I’ve only had their tamales once. They were pork, hot, and delicious. If they are available, you NEED to get them. Just note you need to buy at least a half a dozen. A dozen is $ 12, but they sure do go fast at my house. The only drawbacks about this places are the hours and the parking. They usually close at 3 on weekdays(granted they do open at 6 am, but how many people go there that early?). Their parking spaces are really tiny and is limited, so just be aware.
