Agave Taco Bar

Just an FYI for patrons: This used to be the area’s oldest historic soda fountain with the original marble counter, old stools and booths. It was a delight to bring my kids and show them a bit of neighborhood history.
Unfortunately the new owner decided we needed yet another restaurant instead and ripped out all the old fixtures.

Dropped into this place after wanting to try it out for a while. No clarity on whether to wait to be seated (no one even acknowledged me standing in front until I asked) It was a busy night but still really mediocre service. Tiny expensive tacos, and $ 9 for chips and guac? Cripes. Really good margs. Denver is a place with no shortage of decent tacos. This place is worth skipping in my opinion.

Love the atmosphere, food, and prices. Wait staff is funny, yet professional, and drinks are priced well.

I wanted to give 1 star, but since I technically got what I ordered, I thought 2 was fair. The portions were excessively small, and the prices were high. I wouldn’t have cared as much if it tasted good, but everything was SO bland! They didn’t even salt their chips or guacamole. So disappointing.

Interesting variety of tacos with fresh ingredients. Loved the jalapeño margaritas. Great guac and salsas as well. Will be back

Fun little taco joint. Good creative tacos and decent drinks. Fab for happy hour (though it takes longer to load wifi than drink a beer, so HH workers, beware). Such a fun vibe, easy part of town, and when the sun is shining there’s no better off the beaten path spot for brunch (it’s also delish). Four stars for fun/​atmosphere for a relatively whole package place.

We LOVE this place. Agave is a great addition to the wash park neighborhood. Cute patio, fantastic drinks, great tacos… And the patio is dog friendly! Our waitress, Caridad, was a rockstar with our 2 dogs despite the fact that she is afraid of them. Agave has become a regular spot for my boyfriend and I.

Val is our favorite gal ever! We come here every Tuesday for tacos, they’re so delicious! It gets crowded but it’s worth the wait. Awesome location too!

Delicious tacos ($ 1 Tuesday) and great drinks. Hope you get sat in Val’s section. She will literally make you feel like the true MVP. Called my party’s name like we were the Denver Broncos themselves anddd her salsa choices were spot on. I feel like Val is a universally great name but this Val takes the cake. Thanks Val, you rock Val.

Austin and Nicole were fantastic today!!! Pineapple Express and strawberry jalapeño margs were absolutely mouth watering.

Val was the funniest/​best waitress ever! She was very attentive and went out of her way to make our dining experience very enjoyable. Definitely going back!

Came to this place for the first time and was more then happy. Our server Valerie had a great personality! Great recommendations and amazing food! I highly recommend. No complaints at all!

I went there once this summer with a friend, and we each got three tacos as well as chips and salsa to share. The chips were so greasy to the point where they almost felt wet, and we went to another restaurant immediately after eating there because the tacos were so small that we were still starving after eating them. However, the staff was very well versed on their menu, gave us good recommendations, and it’s a nice cozy little place to eat, with a nice patio in the summer.

Just love this place! Salsa variety is amazing! Staff is so friendly!!! The food is absolutely amazing! The price is reasonable and the drinks are on point! Our waitress Monica was just great!

We went to Agave Taco Bar last night courtesy of a Groupon and overall we’d give it a solid meh’ and mainly because of the service.
Service: 1.5 stars. Granted, our server was brand new, but she was definitely high on something other than just life itself. She was very nice and chatting it up with all of the customers, but with the downside that she never delivered the food that was ordered. The other server had to basically get all of our food for us. And I don’t know if it was the kitchen’s fault or the service, but one girl at our table got her food and then 20 minutes later, the rest of us got our food.
Food: 4 stars. Definitely better than average, but I’ve had better. Tacos were good, strong drinks, salsa tasted fresh.
Atmosphere: 4 stars. Small place that was packed when we went there on a weeknight with a nice patio area that would be awesome in nicer weather.
Overall, if you’re also high on something other than just life itself, then you might not mind the slow and inconsistent service (then again you may need STAT service to satisfy those munchies), which is a shame because this place has much more potential.

Reasonably priced. Convenient location. Great staff (ask for Val). Amazing tacos, and the best patio in town. Hands down my favorite spot in Denver!

Great Tacos and Margaritas. They are delicious and inexpensive. The salsa is unbeatable and authentic. Wednesday Trivia is always worth a visit!

Small little upscale Mexican style ‘taco bar’ … definitely good food and an eclectic selection of ‘taco’ options, but think they need some more loss leaders or something as the prices vis-​a-​vis the serving size … well it is pricey, or at least for someone who is hungry … Overall I enjoyed Agave and I have been back multiple times and will go back again, but I just have to be careful as it is hard on the wallet …

Their taco Tuesday is on point! $ 1 bomb tacos and the best tequila around. The bartenders is pretty rad as well, particularly Brittany, Jordan, and Derrick.
Definitely I must try!

Best tacos in Denver! Try the Pescado (daily catch) and the Cordero (Colorado lamb) they are unique and super Delish!!! The year round watermelon margarita and I house made salsa is worth the trip alone. Friendly service and an awesome patio when the weather is nice.

This place is fantastic, Derek recommended to me a few shots that I will share with you! Pura Vida Gold, Arta Extra Anejo, and 123 Diablito. He was very knowledgeable on the origins and aging process, I will definitely be back to try some more suggestions!

I went to Agave for dinner Saturday night with a friend and Val was our server. She was fantastic! Incredibly friendly, she came by no sooner than I sat down.
They have several margarita options, so I asked her for a recommendation and she recommended the watermelon — it was probably one of the best margaritas I have had (and that applies to ALL 3 that I drank that night :)). My props to Derrik and Austin behind the bar for their margarita crafting skills.
As many other people mentioned on here, the chips and salsa are really good! If you have read any of my other reviews, spicy is not really my thing so I asked to stay on the mild/​medium side and love that they can cater the salsas to where you have more than one option, even if you are finicky like me, which isn’t an option I get a lot.
For dinner, we each got tacos. I had the Pollo Chile Relleno and the Al Pastor — inhaled them. Seriously. They were SO good! My friend had his favorite — the Chicken Tinga — as well, as two others (sorry, was 2 margs in at this point and did not catch what they were) but he also had nothing left on his plate, so clearly no complaints here!
The restaurant is small but cozy — I thought it was awesome for this reason. The bar is actually quite large, so there is not really a seating issue and considering how great the staff is, hanging out with Derrik and Austin at the bar is not a bad time. However, if you are grabbing a table, ask for Val. She is just fun and knows the menu — it’s nice when you can ask for recommendations and the server can actually give them to you.
Overall, cool spot, good food, awesome staff and I will most certainly recommend it (already have to several people) and plan on being a repeat customer for sure!

Agave is our GO TO restaurant! The tacos are amazing! I love the Cordero with Colorado lamb and the Nopalitos taco with chicharron! The staff is also incredible and we’ve never had bad service. Ask for Kati to make you a delicious jalapeño and watermelon margarita! She’s got the magic touch and is so much fun!

Taco Tues even coming back from Mexico I had to get my agave taco fix. Finally able to get here and sit in Val’s section! We meet her at the bar a few months ago and she is so entertaining and made friends with pretty much everyone in the restaurant.

How the heck does this place only have ³⁄₅ stars?!? Insane! Come here on a Tuesday and it’s no walk in the park trying to get a spot here. That’s gotta say something right?!?
First off the tacos… you would think that having limited choices for taco Tuesday you might get bored… wrong. Each week I am taken away by the fact that the tacos knock my socks off time and time again! They are always just as delicious as last time if not better! That tomatillo salsa is really on point, I could eat it by the spoonful. Each week I come in thinking I have a favorite and then I try one of the other ones and I just can’t say.
The cocktails, they have an extensive and creative cocktail list that was put together by the bartenders. I had the gin mint tea which is really great because you know who doesn’t like detoxing while you age yourself. Bf got the Mexican Mule which is the Mexican version of a Moscow mule and substitutes tequila for vodka. He really enjoyed it and thought it was a great choice to your run of the mill boring cocktails every establishment has. It’s nice to have a selection of different choices.
The service… so awesome! Jordan the bartender is our favorite. We came here on the first taco Tuesday not knowing much about anything. We came back the next week and he recognized us!!? We don’t really stand out as weirdos or anything (noticeably anyways) so that really says something. You have to admit that that’s someone that is good at/​takes pride of their job. On top of that he’s very attentive and we don’t ever feel like we have to wait to get an order in. We definitely like to sit at the bar and it’s now a comfort knowing that Jordan will be our bartender because he really is a personable guy that we enjoy using small talk and know will give us great service.
All in all we will continue to come back to this place! We love agave !!!

We planned to eat at a different restaurant in the Washington Park area when we happened to park near Agave Taco and decided to give it a try instead.
I loved the indoor/​outdoor patio feel — the patio has gorgeous flower pots and misters for a warm day. The interior is wood and steel and very cool !
I ordered a rosa margarita and my husband tried the jalapeño both were very good. The homemade chips are killer — I liked the mild salsa the best — not because I can’t take the heat — but because it was a fresh light salsa. The hot habenero salsa was good as well — I didn’t care for the mild but the husband liked it the best.
The guacamole was spot on delicious! With just a touch of jalapeño. It was the perfect texture and taste to pair with the chips.
The tortillas are homemade and delicious! I ordered a carnitas taco that was good but the al pastor taco was outstanding with a bright fresh pineapple salsa. The husband liked his chicken tacos too.
We have been on a quest for a great Mexican restaurant and I think we just found it.
