Friends, Denverites, countrymen, lend me your ears; I come to bury Gabor’s, not to praise it. The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones; So let it be with Gabor’s. The noble Sam Rootus Hath told you Gabor’s was ambitious: If it were so, it was a grievous fault, And grievously hath Gabor’s answer’d it. Here, under leave of Sam Rootus and the rest– For Sam Rootus is an honourable man; So are they all, all honourable men– Come I to speak in Gabor’s funeral. He was my friend, faithful and just to me: But Sam Rootus says he was ambitious; And Sam Rootus is an honourable man. He hath brought many captives home to Edgewater Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill: Did this in Gabor’s seem ambitious? When that the poor have cried, Gabor’s hath wept: Ambition should be made of sterner stuff: Yet Sam Rootus says he was ambitious; And Sam Rootus is an honourable man. You all did see that on Capitol Hill I thrice presented him a kingly crown, Which he did thrice refuse: was this ambition? Yet Sam Rootus says he was ambitious; And, sure, he is an honourable man. I speak not to disprove what Sam Rootus spoke, But here I am to speak what I do know. You all did love him once, not without cause: What cause withholds you then, to mourn for him? O judgment! thou art fled to brutish beasts, And men have lost their reason. Bear with me; My heart is in the coffin there with Gabor’s, And I must pause till it come back to me.

Woe to Capitol Hill! It is so sad to lose Gabor’s to make way for yet another well lit burger-and-a-craft beer tavern. I have been going to Gabor’s on a regular basis for 15 years. I loved the darkness, the staff, most of the customers and the fact that this bar was as close as you could get to the lingering spirit of the beloved Cricket on the Hill(R.I.P.) The food was really good, too, especially the Nachos! This block will now be useless to me, UNLESS of course I need to get my hair did, in that case Andi at Muse will bring me back. It’s nice to see change but I can’t think of another place th at can replace Gabor’s. Sad sad sad.

Came here on a Friday night at around 8:30. There was plenty of parking near by. The place looks like a bar straight out of an 80s movie about bars in a small town. I dig it. Big red booths, cheesy Christmas décor up, mirrors everywhere and a whole little back area with just pool tables. They also have buck shot if you guys are obsessed with that game like I am. If you get a table you also get a waitress who brought out drinks that were so cheap! My only complaint is: get here early to stake out a table. There are like a total of 15 – 20 tables in the whole place. People that were there before us ended up leaving AFTER us so people stay here all night. The place isn’t that loud so you can actually have a nice conversation with your friends! Service is pretty slow. I think there are like 3 servers in the whole place? We got the fried mac and cheese. Delicious. The mac and cheese was so creamy on the inside. The chicken on the chicken nachos was the shredded kind so that was devoured as well. If only the service wasn’t so slow then I would have given this place a higher rating… in their defense though, it started getting pretty packed by the end of the night. Great low key, hipster, and cheap place for a casual night out.

No more fried olives :(, and I never got to try them. Weep! The rest of the fried food is pretty hard to stomach if you have only had 2 beers. Probably good when blacked out though. I like the atmosphere and pitchers are pretty cheap.

This is a pretty nice lil locals dive in the Denver area. With the perfect combo of red, plastic booths and a juke box that just won’t quit(really, it won’t. You get like 20 songs for $ 1) I’d say that it’s a spot that most should stop at should you desire an adult beverage late at night. While I only indulged in hot toddy’s and peppermint schnapps hot chocolates, both were perfectly delicious and served out by a friendly hipsterish quick cocktail waitress. Next time I’ll have to test out the excellent bar foods everyone has been raving about. Gabor, I adore it.

Can anyone say, «Perfect hipster bar?» ‘Cause that’s just what this spot is — a fantastic adventure into the divey-abyss, complete with bright red seating for booths, excellent Mexican, jalapeño poppers, and pool table. If veggie green chili burritos are to your liking, you gotta try theirs. It’s dirt cheap and paired with a nice mug of beer, you really can’t go wrong. My only wish was that it’d be closer to my hood, but luckily it’s a great spot right in between the folks who live in Cap Hill and City Park to meet up to satisfy their weekend dive cravings.

For some reason, I can never remember what beer they have there, so each time I go there, ordering involves me walking halfway to the bar and halfway away from my booth and squinting to see what the draft handles are and what bottles are lined up on the shelf. I could ask the waitress for the thousandth time, but I’m too ashamed to ask again. I really like this place. It’s got a great vibe, wonderful jukebox and a warm, friendly staff who don’t treat me like a blithering idiot because I forgot the draft beer selection. Again. The food is greasy bar food, but it is heeeeeeeavenly! I would sell naming rights to my first born for an unlimited supply of their fried olives. The best part: It’s within walking distance(sometimes drunken stumbling) to my apartment. Thanks for planning your placement so well, Gabor’s!

Gabor(ings) is Grade A. I’m a dive kinda guy(you can take the guy out of the country, but…), and this seedy little joint rocks my socks off. From the free jukebox to the friendly staff, it’s a win every time. The food menu is a little suspect, but would you expect anything less from a dive? Besides, it’s that late night, I need a drank, «Let’s play some pool, friends» bar to hang out at. It doesn’t hurt that Gabor(ings) is a stones throw from my love nest. Get it son! The Cherry: I get a boner-sized dose of hipster: my #1 affinity as of late. *squish*

Following the Thanksgiving holiday, I met up with some friends here and got my first taste of the holiday spirit. The lone Xmas tree, pine wrapping, and lights decorated the dimly lit bar that is otherwise decked out in James Dean“ish” photos. The staff was friendly, though a bit slow, and the demographic was awesome. Not sure if wearing flannel was impromptu the holiday and/or winter weather or if it was prefered by the staff, but overall it had a cool mix of hipster lumberjackers. Draft selections are a bit dismal, but I kind of see this more as a pitcher of beer to share amongst friends kind of bar than a lone draft by draft bar, if that makes sense. To clarify, it seems like a neighborhood bar for friends to meet up and converse, listen to good tunes, and play a game or two of pool.

Oh Gabor’s, how I wish you were my neighbor because my gawd, I’d be visiting you every day. What with your dim lighting, cozy booths, nonstop flow of friendly patrons, and cheap drinks, what’s not to love? I’m a bit hesitant to go out to bars toute seule, but I’m pretty sure that with Gabor’s, a single gal sitting at the bar wouldn’t be a problem. In fact, I’m confident it wouldn’t be because as I was waiting for my group of friends to arrive last night, I was immediately served by the bar tender, not given a glare down by any of the patrons, and then proceeded into an excellent conversation with the beautiful stranger sitting next to me. Yep, Gabor’s just shot up in my list of cool places to return to in Denver because it is the neighborhood bar that you’re looking for. Even if you’re not from the Cap Hill area, I’m sure they won’t mind you popping in to say hello and stay for a drink. Relaxed, chill, and friendly. Stay classy Gabor’s, I’ll see you soon.

Way better than my first visit — let’s start there. The bartender was cool. The location is decent. The drinks were great. This is a great neighborhood spot to get your drink on and enjoy your girls. It’s an upscale dive bar. Not dirty enough to stay away from, but just dive-y enough to wanna keep going back. Well done. side note: parking is scarce… hang tight to your bag walking to and from the door.

Who knew that Gabor’s makes a tasty veggie burrito? When I’m here it’s usually late at night, there’s lots of beer and/or vodka involved, and the only thing I want to eat is those delicious but dastardly deep fried mac and cheese squares. On my last visit a few weeks ago, they even made a split plate for me and my friend. So nice. Let’s see, what else do you need to know about my neighborhood dive? — Rad jukebox that always has a bajillionty credits on it. Occasionally the box is being dominated by a surly hipster, but just be patient. — Cheap beer. — Scary bathrooms. But this is not why you go here. — Ciggy vending machine. Note: If you happen to shut the place down, be prepared for everyone to start smoking in the bar at 2 a.m. That is all for now.

This is a place that I’ve made it into a lot but have neglected to write a review of it for no particular reason. So let me start out by saying what’s good about it: Cozy booths, not too loud. It’s possible to have a conversation in here. Great Bar Food. Lots of top-notch versions of typical bar food, and Macaroni and Cheese Wedges. The kitchen is open late, too. It attracts a pretty entertaining crowd. I’ve always had friendly service, but sometimes it’s a little slow. So why only 3 stars if it’s so great? I just never say«Let’s go to Gabors.» Someone else, almost always female, says that and I say, «OK.» That’s just how it is. In other words, for me, it’s a great place to go if someone else suggests it and I’ve always had a good time there. It’s just not the first place I think of when I’m throwing out suggestions.

I’ve been kind of avoiding this place and I think I’ve been wrong to. It’s a hop, skip, and a jump across the street(literally, it takes that long to get there from my place). The lack of any sort of area outside to hang out at means there aren’t né’er do wells loitering at all hours of the night(Gypsy House, I’m looking at you and your«raves»). They play my music on the jukebox. The server we had this weekend was unusually friendly. They don’t have the best specials, but something is usually on special. I haven’t delved into their menu. Appears to be a pretty extensive list of standard bar food. Basically, it’s a nice, dark, laid back place to go for a low key evening.

Three stars, but definitely three and a half. Wish they had a bit more of a beer selection, but it’s all butter and biscuits, yo. This is a funny place. The kind of place that is still in transition from one generation to the next. Look at the table over there, with the young glam kids who look like they stepped of a Postal Service video. Then look at the bar and see the 50 year old guy nursing a Budweiser, reminiscing about days gone by. I will say, my chicken sammich was the bomb dizzle. The fries were absolutely not, though. Nothing wrong with them, per se, they were just kinda… blah. I’ll be coming back here, since it’s right around the corner from my apartment, and I look forward to giving this place another star. I’m sure it’ll happen soonly. Good times to be had here!

I think there are generally two types of bars. One type is there for the extroverts, those loud and crowded places where patrons demand attention either from the barkeep or from whoever they are trying to woo at the moment. Then there are the quieter bars, where one can actually hold a conversation with somebody and order a drink without flagging a bartender down like a taxi driver. Gabor’s is fortunately the latter. It’s a place to hang out, pick songs out on the free jukebox, enjoy the funky décor, have some cheap alcohol(or fancy cocktails), and maybe have a bite to eat from the bar’s affordable and surprisingly extensive menu. It’s a place where I can honestly spend hours just hanging out with friends over drinks and not feel overly pressured to buy more from a pushy server or worry about obnoxious douchebags starting fights because I stared too long at someone’s «girl.» In short I think Gabor’s may just be the best bar in the entire city of Denver. So long as you like your bars cheap, interesting, quiet and(mostly) asshole free.

This will be concise. This bar is a like a 1950s period piece you see at an independent theatre. It rocks it old school. They have a juke box that has great tunes and it always full of free picks. They have a very tasty bar-food menu. They have pool tables. They have awesome booths that out of a gangster movie. I like it a lot.

I love dive bars, and Gabor’s fits the very definition of one. Came here to meet some other Unilocalers for a night out and I was eager to check out this place. Parking kind of sucks though, and I drive a beast of a car so it took me about 10 minutes to park, but I digress. It’s dark and has a musty, stale smoke and beer smell. They have funky red furniture. There is a cigarette vending machine and when is the last time you have seen one of those? They make the cocktails strong but they do not serve much on tap. The bar food is tasty and deep fried, everything I’d expect from bar food. It’s a great neighborhood bar that I’ll definitely be coming back to soon, however, next time I’m cabbing it.
