I love HJM and the owner — Hannah. She is super nice and I find myself chatting with her every time we go into the store. They allow dogs in the store and give out dog treats. I once was ~$ 1 short on cash and didn’t have enough for my purchase and she just let me pay what I had and fronted me the $ 1 difference. The prices are a little higher than one of the mega stores like Molly’s but the are considerably lower than some of the other nearby LoDo liquor stores like Mr. B’s on Market and 21st. HJM is a family run business and it feels like it when you’re there. Support local business, go to HJM.

We just bought a house nearby, and were walking around at 8:30pm on a Saturday night to explore our new ‘hood. Even though this little wine shop looked totally ghetto from the outside, we didn’t want to judge a book by its cover. We were optimistic and hoping they might surprise us with a great selection on wine. Nope! HJM has really harsh fluorescent and neon lighting, which gives it even more of that ghetto vibe they must be going for. There were no other customers in the store, but that didn’t stop the employees(owners?) from failing to acknowledge our existence. This place sells bottom of the barrel bum wine, and even has a circular trough full low quality airline sized liquor bottles as a centerpiece fixture of the store. One can clearly tell the target clientele just by looking over their inventory. Although this place is 2 blocks away from my new house, I will gladly go out of my way to avoid it at all costs.

Good beer and wine selections, and the family that owns this place are very good people. Hannah always puts a smile on my face when I see her. The Atm is ancient history though.

Love this place. A short walk from where I live, GREAT selection, and the family who runs the place are so friendly and always happy to see me. Best little mom and pop shop, also they have a few parking spaces in back if you need a spot.

I just came in here to use the ATM. I needed $ 400 but it only allowed $ 200 in each transaction. I withdrew $ 200 just fine. I withdrew $ 200 again and it gave me $ 170(2 $ 5s instead of the last 2 $ 20s). I went to talk to the woman in the front and she said I needed to call the bank. I tried to withdraw the last $ 40 and get a receipt but it gave me $ 10(2 $ 5s instead of 2 $ 20s). I tried to tell the woman and ask her to put a sign on the ATM to warn her customers but she ended up in a shouting match with me. Not once did I blame her or the store, not once did I ask her for the missing money, I just wanted them to warn people that the ATM was messed up. I learned my lesson, only bank ATMs for me from now on. This place is super sketchy and I was appalled at the way I was treated.

this was my go to liquor store for over 5 years when i was living in the area, they have a great selection of wine and cheap prices on liquor. Hannah and John(the owners) are fantastic, they will treat you like family if you become a regular. they are open anytime they are legally able to, and that rules. even though i live across town now, i still try to drop in if i am in the area.

Why do I feel like I’m constantly being over charged? I guess because I am. I have frequented this liquor store many times and every time I’ve left feeling over charged. They just stand there and plant numbers into the register with little regard to the actual price. When some items have prices on them and others don’t, how is one to tell whether they’re being over charged or not? My last trip here I mentioned something to who I’m assuming is the husband, and one of the owners of the place, that it seemed I was charged incorrectly. He looked at me in dismay and started to add the items over again. Half way through he got confused and called his wife over. She took over and rang everything up again. As it was, I was over charged by $ 1.32. Wait, what? I didn’t even buy anything for a $l.32. I brought that to her attention and she just looked at me like we weren’t speaking the same language. Unfortunately, I have a sneaking suspicion that they are over charging or just adding small amounts to the total. I figure that most people don’t notice because they’re not paying attention, especially if they are buying several items, or they’re already quite intoxicated. What’s even more fishy is that they claim that they cannot provide a detailed receipt of the items you purchased with their prices and taxes if you ask for one. I know that $ 1.32 doesn’t seem like that much, but over time it would add up quite quickly. And it’s my money! It’s quite sad that this seems to be going on. They have a great selection of wines and craft beers and the people really are very friendly. Fortunately or unfortunately, I won’t be spending my money here anymore.

A tad pricey, but any liquor store in the hood is gonna be. The owners are super nice and always greet me when I come in. They see me so often that I don’t even get carded anymore. I was also pleasantly surprised when I was there on my birthday and they gave me a few free airplane bottles of vodka. Free booze is always a plus!

One star is way too much for this place! Went to buy some margarita mix and since it’s the closest to my house decided to go here. Purchased my product and went home to make a drink. Went to open up my product and there was no seal on the outside and no seal under the lid so decided that it was either opened and returned or was just a defect. Went back to the store to return the product and the lady behind the counter wanted to argue with me that she would have to pay for the product since it was open. WOW, so I have to pay for something that was already opened!!! It was not like I was trying to get money back but just exchange my already opened product for another. I was even going to buy a bottle of Tequila but now there is no way I will ever return to that place or would I recommend to anyone else. It’s worth the drive to Argonaut for better customer service and MORERESPECT!!! This is a prime reason why so many business fail!

I like supporting local businesses. This is one that I like a lot. It’s a tad bit far from my neighborhood, but I always drive there because of their selection and price points. The Riverfront/Highlands area isn’t exactly cheap when it comes to liquor stores. You’re not going to find an Argonaut in this area. However, this place is fairly hard to beat for a mid-size LQ. They have a big selection, and they’re open quite frequently. If you’re in the area, check it out. It’s not mind-blowing, but it works. Viva HJM.

Sick of going to Geno’s(32nd and Zuni) and finding them closed a half hour early for no discernible reason? Skip them entirely and stumble your drunk self down the street to HJM. Husband and wife team Hana and John run the front with their boys Michael and John Jr.(‘Lil John) Every time I pop in, they’re chatting it up with someone from the neighborhood or thanking someone by name. Keep in mind, this is not a small store. They have a great mid-range wine selection, tons of coolers and new deals all the time. The sale wine bin isn’t the greatest(unless you’re into drinking bad ruby ports by the 750), but they have very reasonable prices. The best part: they stay open ’til midnight on busy Sunday nights. Driving by and seeing those lights on makes me warm like only a short glass of bourbon can.
