Kolache Cabin

We tried everything on the menu that day. We did not really like the flavor of them. We are from Texas, basically the place in the US to get kolaches, and I can tell you that these are not American kolaches. They are filled buns, nothing wrong with that, but I would not call them kolaches.

Why are you still selling these? This place is out of business. Before buying this deal call the business phone number, it says he lost his lease and is out of business for now.

My wonderful co-​worker drives by this food truck at Santa Fe and Alameda every day on her way to work. Today, she thoughtfully decided to treat us all to kolaches! I had never heard of these before so I was excited and grabbed a few flavours:
*Biscuits and Gravy — My faaaavourite! So yummy, such a good idea. It was moist with beef and flaky pastry and unlike some other reviewers, I did not find it too salty. And I am a little sensitive to salt.
*Eggs, Jalapeño and Bacon — Ummm, this was a little weird because it didn’t look burnt but it definitely tasted burnt? If not for that it would have been delicious.
* Pulled Pork — Regular pulled pork but not too salty or sweet. Did I mention the delicious bread?
Overall I am a fan! This is not anything gourmet or ground-​breaking but it’s decent food at a decent price. I am not a bread person in general but I feel like anything in freshly-​baked, flaky pastry wins me over. Stuffed with different combinations of eggs, vegetables or meat, similar to empanadas, you definitely want to eat these hot.

I hate to give a poor review to a small business trying to get things going, but they need to step up the focus on quality. I was looking forward to trying the Kolache Cabin after I saw their groupon, with no other options around. Unfortunately far from impressed here. Having tried several options in Texas and the place that was on Wadsworth, I like a good kolache. These were very dry, overcooked (burnt fillings) and missing the sweet dough flavor I’m familiar with. I tried 5 different flavors, and unfortunately didn’t care for any of them. Bummer.

I’ve been itching to try this place, since the wonderful Kolache place in Lakewood closed, so I gave the cabin-​style food-​truck a go. Rather, I tried, and I tried to try it out. He has a permanent address, but never seemed to be there. I finally found him parked, and went in for the kill. The Groupon deal that he has is killer, so I asked him if he would like me to purchase that deal from him directly (as some business prefer, after they’ve met their quota with Groupon), or Groupon, he said Groupon, ok, no problem. I dove into my phone and went to purchase the Groupon (a process that only takes 20 – 30 sseconds), a guy walked up behind me, handed him a print-​out of the very deal that I’m purchasing, and the Kolache guy gives him a box of Kolaches. Then he says to me, I don’t know that I have enough for the Groupon deal. Uh, what? Ok… I’ll have this, a that, and a bit of that. Well, he didn’t have this, or that, just a bit of that, and some nasty sounding something else. Ok, I’ll have some nasty that, and some bit of that, oh, and that flavor that we didn’t talk about because it must be the equivalent to the last kid picked in kickball… Four total please. Ok, I got four Kolaches, that’s 2 less than the Groupon of 6 for $ 9. He charged me $ 13, I sat there dumbfounded when he told me that figure. I gave him $ 20, and he gave me $ 10 back, oh thanks guy, I’m sure it was only because he didn’t have the correct change. I still paid one dollar more, to have two less than what I would have had on the the Groupon.
Ok, front-​of-​the-​house aside, let’s get to the back-​of-​the-​house…
I took the Kolaches to share at work, and the reviews were mixed in their criticizims, and no one raved like that of other Kolaches that have crossed our paths. My main complaint was that the dough used to wrap the Kolache was like a pie crust, not a rise dough. This may not have been a bad alternative to what I’m accustomed to, but the dough was not cooked through. The outside was flakey, and hard, while the inside was mushy uncooked dough. The Denver Omlette was a bit bland, the Biscuits and Gravy was a great idea, but too salty, and the Pulled Pork, was eh, pulled pork. Though, overall, I did like the flavor of all three, just a little more balance would have been nice.

Really wanted to like them, but they were extremely dry and unappetizing. Properly seasoned, but the egg tasted like it had been overcooked by an hour at least. Not a drop of moisture. Couldn’t even finish half of it without feeling like I was coughing up sand. The only reason I’m giving it two stars is because I refuse to leave one star reviews on local, family owned businesses. Would not consider eating here again.

I hate to give a poor review. While this may be decent food, it is not a kolache. It was a big disappointment to look forward to a kolache in Denver, only to bite into it and realize it did not come close to a true Texas/​Czech kolache. Sorry.

These yummy treats are amazing! They have a breakfast kolache with eggs, bacon, cheese and jalapeño which was my favorite! From breakfast to lunch, vegetarian to carnivorous treats, it’s all good. I’m not a morning or even early afternoon person, but will wake up early for him!

So much different from what I remember of Kolache Factory. These homemade goodies are the big bomb — hearty and artisanal. Instead of a typical food truck, the «cabin» is dragged along by the owner’s truck (and you might want to chat with his two friendly dogs!)
I arrived too late one day trying to redeem my Groupon for 6 kolaches, he’s already closing up shop for the day, so he apologized for the lack of selection and gave me the rest of kolaches in 3 big bags, I swear there’s at least a dozen in there, still warm! I wish I had some cash on me to pay him for the difference, but he kept saying sorry for not having the other flavors for me to try. As far as I know, among the dozen, there are at least 3 different flavors, I’m gonna name them Cheesy Sausage, Breakfast Hash, and Eggy Goodness. Hopefully that’s descriptive enough, lol. All are good even though the fillings are on the too-​salty side, the pastry about made up for it, it’s so flaky and golden brown I could actually do with a thicker crust and a little less filling!
I know I will come back and visit whenever I crave for the Texas specialty!

Love these things, chorizo is my favorite when they have them. Jalapeño is 2^nd favorite. Only problem is information on Facebook not up to date on menu or days of not being there.

Love these guys! The Cabin is (a little too) conveniently on my way to work… every morning. Jalapeño/​egg/​bacon is a favorite of mine. The bacon mac & cheese is a ridiculously indulgent morsel and highly recommended!

The 3 stars is because they are decent but mostly because they are the only game in town.
As one other reviewer suggested, they are not like Texas kolaches — soft and fluffy.
The filling are good, but the dough is hard and almost crunchy. it’s like they use biscuit dough with a butter glaze.
I still go because I occasionally like a change from the breakfast burrito and the location is convenient.

All I can say is YUM!
I ran into these guys by accident. I was on the highway one morning and noticed my car needed gas. I knew there is a gas station at Santa Fe & Alameda, so I got off the highway. As I was pumping gas I noticed the Kolache Cabin, which made me hungry. Then I thought «what the heck!» I have found so many wonderful places to eat in Denver all based on a whim and this was one of those places. I got their biscuits & gravy kolache and their jalapeño & egg. They were fully stuffed and tasted amazing. I’ve been going back ever since and they have never disappointed me.
You guys are awesome! Keep doing what you do.

Delicious, friendly, super easy to find and get to. Best way to describe this place: tear jerkingly tasty food! No joking or exaggerating at all or in any way. I am SO happy I stopped by this quaint little cabin in the side of Santa Fe! I really hope he expands his hours soon, because I could eat these all day! Do yourself a favor and make the stop to see the Kolache Cabin!

Coming from Texas, they were not what I expected. Anyone who knows true Texas Kolaches knows a Kolache is soft and made with a sweet dough. What I found at the Kolache Cabin was crispy and flakey and hard. I bought three different kinds and took two bites out of them and threw them out. I can’t really say they are bad, they are just not at all what I expected.

Bought a Groupon pack for Kolache cabin and stopped by on my way to work to grab some kolache for my coworkers. I only grabbed six of them to try them out. These kolaches are absolutely spectacular. Full of flavor and suprisingly good. I’ve never had kolache before but I am a huge fan now. I would recommend strongly. For big orders (dozen or more) you should call ahead so they can prepare it for you. Also they have a multitude of flavors so you could try out whatever you fancy. Great concept, great food.

I bought an assortment of six for $ 15 and every one was PACKED with filling and very flavorful. Portabella really stands out, I love mushrooms. The pastry on all the ones I tried (three of us cut them up to taste everything) was delicious. I wish I had a location where they could park their truck through lunchtime. I hope this doesn’t end up in LoDo like everything else. They’re too too delicious and deserve for more people to know about them.

Yummy bites wrapped up in dough for $ 3. I just read they are having some location issues, but you can follow them on Facebook.
I got the egg, bacon, jalapenos. It was spicier than I normally eat in my breakfast, but yummy.
