Loved the tamales and pastries! It’s a bit of a drive, but I’ll do it again.

Don’t even talk to me about Mexican food if you are from Colorado or Texas. I will only take you seriously if you are from New Mexico, Mexico, and maybe California. So given that I’m slightly picky(e.g. have taste buds), I have to say I really like la popular and it really is the only place in Denver that I will go to(otherwise, I’m making my own or bringing it up from the 505). Their salsa and chips are pretty darn good(though the chiles could be a bit more chopped up). I have not tried their tamales(b/c sadly I cannot eat traditional ones with pork), but they smell legit.

A commercial mexican bakery that has some great burritos. They put the ingredients cold so they do have to microwave it to heat it up, but they’re fantastic. I get the smothered chile relleno burrito and it tastes great, and definitely fills you up. Best of all, it’s only $ 4.50. They’re sweets are delicious as well. Their brownies are quite rich, but are to die for. All you need is half of one, but they taste so so good. I’ve also noticed they supply chips for a lot of the local mexican restaurants as well. Definitely worth a stop.

I gave this old time place one star only because I had to — to write this(warning) review! My husband bought home tamales green and red, and a burrito. We tasted all the above and seriously couldn’t leave the bathroom all afternoon. I would never eat from this place again, please be ware!

You can’t have the«Best Breakfast Burrito» in town, if you have to microwave it. But none the less it’s not the Worst Breakfast Burrito either. If you’re like me and prefer non macrowaved food, then ask them to not microwave it and you can take it home to heat it up. Much better when it’s heated up in a toaster oven rather than a microwave.

We decided to venture to La Popular for lunch yesterday for what we thought would be some great authentic Mexican food. Ground beef being the only meat option for my taco was disappointing & so was the dryness of my tamale. Not to mention that it is takeout only. I won’t be rushing back.

La Popular? More like la poop-ular. My coworker and I ordered breakfast burritos, unsmothered, and red tamales. Was supposed to be a sure winner as far as breakfast was concerned. It’s been 3 hours, and so far we’ve both had to run to the facilities. This definitely isn’t what we expected. In the future we will avoid the burritos! On a positive note, the front counter attendant was friendly, quick, and professional, and the tamales were decent. I hope to have a better experience in the future, and I hope to be able to update this review with a more positive one.

One of the best breakfast burritos I have ever had! I’m not a huge fan of eggs so I really love that they load these up with more potatoes too. I asked for extra cheese one day though and got charged for it but it didn’t have any cheese. I was a little disappointed but I can’t find a better breakfast burrito so I’ll stick to the best I can get here!

Breakfast burritos, smothered, with green chile sauce in one level of heat-HOT. No frills, delicious.

I don’t understand how anyone thinks these breakfast burritos are edible. Honestly, these are the worst breakfast burritos I’ve tasted in Denver. So much potato that’s undercooked, and the sauce reminds me of a terrible poop. So bad. Plus these gross things are twice as much as Araujos. Really? Tell that to my mouth and stomach who have cried every time I’ve tried these breakfast burritos. No dice. Yucko

La Popular has the best breakfast burritos in town. Everything about them was excellent but what stood out were the caramelized onions. You simply do not get those flavors in your typical breakfast burrito from a non-Mexican restaurant. The store front is rather large but when you enter you realize immediately that this is a manufacturer that just happens to offer a bakery and short form menu. It is a no-thrills place for sure and don’t expect to hang around and eat inside. There are no tables. I went back for lunch a few days later and had a couple of cookies and some enchiladas. I would say that the enchiladas were disgusting but that would be too kind. They were pulled from a refrigerator, thrown into a Styrofoam box, reheated in the microwave, and topped with Mexican rice and refried beans. The enchiladas were still cold in the middle afterwards and lacked all semblance of flavor. Stick to their breakfast burritos(which, while reheated as well, are unbelievably good).

First trip here to try out the tamales. Got ½ dozen of red/green and they were deliciously moist, not to mention very affordable. A little bit of spicy kick to both, which is definitely a plus in my eyes. Will be headed back for some of their other Mexican fair for sure!

I come here often to cure my hangover and it always works for me. I have tried a few things on the menu and my favorite so far is a breakfast burrito. I like it smothered! Very cheap and quick :) The serving size is very generous. I normally can’t finish the whole thing

When I think of Tex-Mex, Mexican, and Colorado, I think of big fat burritos. But, La Popular puts a different spin on things and cranks out some dang good tamales, very traditional ones to boot. The grub is cheap, and the food comes out fresh. Just don’t hold too high of expectations for the ingredient quality. Located in proximity to downtown, near breweries, entertainment, and the like, LP affords you a no-frills bite to eat or something to-go in between your drinking adventures in the Mile High City.

The breakfast burritos are out of this world. The ones I have had were red chili, potatoes and meat. The chili was delicious, the meat was falling apart, and the potatoes had a perfect consistency. The price was very reasonable. I will definitely come back. There is also a mexican bakery, tortilla factory(maybe?), they sell their chili and fresh tamales. Need to try all of those in the future.

i do not recommend the breakfast burrito. Mine had all sorts of weird, gristly meat. I couldn’t even finish it and I’ll eat about anything. Did I just go on an off day? Maybe… i don;t like giving poor reviews so i will try something else if i can bring myself to return.

This is a take out(not eat in) place. We stopped by to grab some tamales as we were shutting between breweries. I went ahead and sprang for a combo meal. This was a taco, a tostada, and a tamale. The tostada was fair, the taco was good, but the tamale was excellent. The flavor of the red sauce and the pork was excellent. The masa was cooked just right. And, best of all, the ratio of filling to masa was quite generous. My pet peeve about tamales is when you get full from eating masa before have a chance to really enjoy the filling flavors. La Popular is serving a very nice tamale. You should definitely buy a dozen of these and take them home for later consumption.

La popular’s breakfast burritos are on point. They are very large, and full of potatoes, pork and egg. The green chili has the perfect amount of heat with nice tender chunks of pork. Never a line inside so you get your food quickly. The pastries are very yummy. Now I just need to try their tamales.
