I liked Live Basil, I didn’t love it. There used to be another assembly line pizza place in Southlands so I was familiar with the set up. I like the idea of organic, natural, fresh ingredients fired right in front of you. Plus the promise of a pizza in 150 seconds(or whatever) is always a plus! The good part about LB is their pizzas are fresh, ingredients taste high quality and the crust came out very flavorful with the right amount of chewiness. The so-so part were that the ingredients were a little light — well the meats. On both my husband’s and my pizzas it seemed like they were swimming in jalapeños, but have very few pepperonis. Plus, while the crust was done, the top almost needed more time, it just wasn’t an even cook. Which takes me to their 150 seconds promise. First, we were the only 2 people in the restaurant and it took about 10 – 15 minutes to get out pizzas from the time they put them in. I know because I stood by the counter thinking they were coming any minute and finally sat down after like five minutes. Second, while it took forever, it seems like it could have used more time. Huh. Not sure if that was an oven problem or what, but not a great first visit. I would go back. I like the concept and the pizza was good enough for another try. It is in that crazy busy shopping plaza near 25/Hampden, but it was not too bad to get in/out on the weekend(not sure on a weekday).

I love this place. I love that it is organic and that everything is so fresh. I also love coal fired crust… It’s just to die for. I feel like this little gem is the perfect spot to get a small pie. Plus, they have tons of toppings to choose from, so it’s definitely best for a picky eater. They also have the gluten free option too, and even though I have not tried it yet, all the sauces and toppings I have tried are great. I’d expect the same from all their crusts too :)
