RedLine is easily one of the best art and community spaces in Denver. Just as a start, the building is absolutely beautiful and the outdoor courtyard so inviting, especially during the evening when the lights are on. Next, their exhibitions are always thoughtful and engaging(some even demanding). As an example, to be the first in the U.S. to exhibit Chen Man’s work is not just a major achievement, but a visionary accomplishment. But this place doesn’t just put up the art and assume a small enclave of participants. Instead they do tons of outreach and support to a wider community of people who care about culture of all types and at all levels. This means that more people not only experience more of what is possible with art, but are welcomed to be actively engaged with it. I’ve been to a number of events(films, even a beer tasting and silent auction) at RedLine where everyone was asked to participate in some way. This is what an arts space should be and I couldn’t be happier that we are this lucky to have it in Denver.

I’m sure the gallery is usually really great, but I had a super unpleasant experience. A friend visiting from Israel highly recommended that we visit the art space when we passed through Denver. Excited to see what would be exhibited, we planned our day to include stopping into Redline. As we went in, we were greeted by friendly staff who were really nice and interested to hear about how out-of-towners heard about them. Pieces were being hung for a show, but they reassured us it was okay to peek. We gave a donation, and began to muse around the space. Not long after walking in and looking at some photographs, an irritated man hustled up to us and arrogantly asked if we were waiting for someone and what we were doing. Confused, we looked towards the desk where we had paid admission. As an artist and curator myself, I replied that I had heard good things about the gallery, and was just looking at the space, as we were given permission. He nodded and shortly replied ‘ok’. We continued walking and looking at some lovely photographs laid out, and the man returned even more irritable, and said that we weren’t allowed to see any of the art pieces until the show the next day. I explained that we were from out of town, and this simply was not possible, and we were given permission and paid anyway. He hustled away again. We continued looking. Again, the irritated man started to get rude with us and it became clear how childlike he was willing to act. «The curator says that you aren’t allowed» he whined. Sick of being treated this way, we left without even seeing the other side of the gallery. All I can say is, be careful who you are rude to. I’m definitely not sending any of my international shows to this place. Your loss.

I liked the space and exhibits, but I’m not an art gallery critic. I like that they contribute to art in the community and we can see the work of artists in progress.

I went here for a friend’s event a couple of weeks ago and the space is great. I really enjoyed all the art that was on display and the food and beverage was great — not sure if the gallery or the organizer put it on, but it was top-notch. I don’t know that I’d go out of my way to go back here, but I certainly wouldn’t hesitate going back if there were another event.

I’ve walked by the RedLine Gallery in my neighborhood dozens of times and only recently stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. I was hoping to see a specific exhibit, but had just missed it. However, a very friendly and helpful guy at the front desk apologized and explained the upcoming exhibit and also invited us to a special event. He definitely convinced me that I should stop in again… and I will. He also let us just walk around to see the space, which was in transition between two exhibitions. He didn’t charge us and we were able to see some of the art that was still up on the wall. The space is open, but lacked personality. The outside of the building and the surrounding landscape, courtyard and art lighting gives a false sense of what’s hidden on the inside. I’m hoping that the lack of ambience on the inside is just due to the transition they were in. I look forward to attending an upcoming event and I hope they dress up the space in a way that celebrates this local gem of an artist haven.

This review is based on renting their space for a private event. Three words… DON’T DOIT! These guys are completely incompetent, their staff says they are going to do things which they won’t do, they make promises they can’t keep and their program director is rude, snobby and a complete displeasure to work with. Not to mention they have an exclusive caterer, so you absolutely have to use theirs no matter what the caterer decides to charge. There are better galleries in town, with employees that actually care about their clients. Don’t waste your time with this one!
