Reeve is a luthier shop that is run out of the owners’ house. It’s a family endeavor, and it shows in a very favorable way. And, while it’s a bit out of the way — my own drive from the Boise Bench district was about 7 miles, or 20 minutes — I found it well worth the drive. They have stated hours but because they run Reeve Violin out of their house, they seem to be very flexible about accommodating hours outside the normal business hours to help you adjust to the vagaries and demands of your own life. I took a new and reasonably expensive violin to have a tailpiece changed. There was also some buzzing so I had them check the seams, as well. The initial inspection revealed three seams that needed to be repaired. Later, on closer inspection, they found seven seams had separated and needed to be re-glued. Despite the additional work they stuck with their already very reasonable original estimate. The instruments they rent and sell vary from the lower, but still reasonable student instrument, to those suitable for professionals. And, while they focus on violins and violas, they also seem to carry a few cellos and basses though with a seemingly lower level of stock. The price rating I’m giving this shop is based on the repair costs, not the sale of instruments, which can vary dramatically. This small and intimate but very professional shop is a bit off the beaten path but I’ll be taking my own instruments to them for all my luthier needs in the future.
