How has no one posted on this Unilocal since October of 2012 when Rock Bar was closing it’s doors?! On some of my late, boozy nights in this city, Rock Bar, you pop into my memory. Your departure has left a hole in my heart. Since you, Denver has had no bar which has come close to attracting your eclectic clientele and setting it on such a beautifully divey backdrop. The mixture of classes, race and age, all showing up to a crowded and dingy cave to buy copious amounts of beverages and sweatify the ceiling to an all too often cheesy DJ set is now appearing, legendary. Frat boys to hipsters, bad looking bitches planning new ink to uptight prisses letting their hair down; basketball players, downtown suits, tall tees and nerd glasses, Rock Bar you made Denver feel a little bigger. Someone please investigate re-opening a bar at this location that will maintain the same qualities as the original Rock Bar, such as: dingy Round Table Pizza-like interior, shameless music selection, XL floor to ceiling dance floor wall mirror and dangerously cheap drinks. I know I speak for many when I say, we want you back!

Rock Bar is one of my favorite bars in Denver, no question! It has that great unpretentious feeling of a bar below a seedy hotel on Colfax, and it has the sticky floors which are the mark of a quality establishment always. The drinks are very reasonably priced, and while the bathrooms are always quite gross, the music is always so amazing that it totally makes up for it! It seems like everyone is always there to have a fun time. Not a bad time. A good time! Always! The mood is always happy and upbeat, and the dancing, as well as the people watching, are top notch! I highly recommend this bar for anyone who is looking to have a fun night out on the town

Stopped in on a Saturday evening for a friend’s birthday. The place was rockin’. Great music, the atmosphere was diverse which made this place stand out. I ordered a long island iced tea and unfortunetly the sweet and sour mix ran out so I went back to get another one. The bartender was responsive about it and replaced it for me which was very cool. Also, the drink prices rock. Would definetly come back again.

This bar is not exactly very close to any other places. A short jaunt from atomic cowboy which I would give a higher rating… why? Let’s see… This place struck me as a little bit dirty… If you are looking for a retro 70’s feeling club this might be your place. It just did not rub me the right way. It took forever to get a beer(they only have cans) and it was expensive. The best part of going to a dive bar is usually the fact that it has great prices. I would make my way to Don’s over this place anyday. Not my jam.

So I would give it more stars but… I’ve been to Rock Bar twice now. The first time I had a blast. The DJ was creative with the music and I danced my tush off. I also paid cash at the bar. The second time I went I danced my tush off and the DJ played our requests for my friend’s birthday. But this time I paid with a credit card. BADIDEA! Not only do they put a massive hold amount on your card, they added in their own extra special tip after I had put my intended tip down and signed. I get that bartenders live off their tips. I’m a bartender so I know that and that’s why I tip well. But really? Adding on your own extra special tip? Meh. I’ll go again if there’s a group of friends going but for now on I will always pay cash.

Jeeze Rock Bar– you sure are weird. I like to finish off my Saturday night bar crawls on Colfax with a good dose of hip hop night at the Rock Bar. Before coming, make sure that A. you don’t show up before 11 and B. that you’re good and inebriated beforehand(getting a drink here takes foreeeeever). The dance floor is always hot, sticky, and home to an incredibly strange mix of people. I could come here just for the people watching opportunities alone. Case in point: the last time I was here, I saw a tatted out biker guy enthusiastically screaming the lyrics to «Teach me how to dougie», a teenage kid dancing in a wheelchair, and a 50 year old woman breaking it down. Hmm… The music is hit or miss– usually the songs are top 40, with some 90s hip hop mixed in. Usually pretty dance-able stuff. One time the DJ started throwing in Rolling Stones, Guns n’ Roses and Rage Against the Machine tunes, which definitely freaked everyone out(except me, who was jumping around screaming the words to «Know Your Enemy»). Either he got tired of spinning hip hop, or he really wanted to clear the dance floor and go home. In conclusion, check out Saturday hip hop night at the Rock Bar at least once in your life.

Hit or miss. I cannot emphasize those three words enough. However, your percentage of possibly getting a ‘hit’ is unsurprisingly a direct correlation with the amount of alcohol you consume. Drink more. Rock out more. It’s that easy. PS: Restrooms are as torn up as most of the crowd. Fun times though. Just really dirty fun times.

This place is so Cheesy, I can’t help but like it a lil bit. This place was dead– but we made the most of it! The music selection brought me back to couples skate at skate city, and school dances-I loved it! The drinks for the ladies(on Thursday) were super cheap, like $ 2 cheap! Hey-O! that did help improve some of the old school dance moves we were trying to bring back! hahaha! The bathroom is HOT pink for the ladies and you can’t really miss it, yet old dude from out of town staying at the«motel» next door didn’t seem to understand this concept– Creeper! still had fun here and I don’t think we paid over $ 20. They have dance floor, pool tables, video games, and the drinks were served in plastic cups, ha! So lame, yet had so much fun.

Need a dirty, dark and dingy place with loud music, randy singles who will grope you and a long line for drinks? This is the place for you. The music can be fun but then the dance floor is packed, it’s sticky, hot and sweaty foolios are in abundance. I really don’t get the draw to this place other than the inner city hotel look. A plus goes out for the cheap drinks but that can’t always be the saving grace. This place reminds me of a nasty college bar that you eventually need to grow out of…

So… Rock Bar. Rock Bar isn’t exactly the first bar that comes to mind when I think«where should I go tonight» but, BUT now they have a kitchen. A kitchen! At Rock Bar? The hell you say! A damn good kitchen, with damn good food. Chef Brian Laird, formerly of Borlolo, has headed the culinary coup de gras for bar hoppers. Succulent bar food at extremely reasonable prices, this makes for an easy first and last stop on the crawl. Perfect mini corn dogs, an excellent fish ‘n’ chips sandwich(made with red snapper) topped with a piquant slaw, housemate corn nuts(whaaaat?!) brilliantly deviled eggs(effing delicious!), a burger with a deep fried slow poached egg(that defies physics), hand cut fries with a mouth-watering malt-vinegar gastrique. All-in-all, surprising would be an understatement. If you’re looking for a place to sate some drunken late night cravings, hit Benny Blanco’s. If you’re looking to tantalize less inebriated taste buds, go to ROCKBAR! Yo.

Rock Bar is a great time for sloppy dance parties. JUSTDONTUSEYOURCREDITCARDORDEBITCARD! THEYARETOTALTHIEVES! Nearly every time my group and I go to Rock Bar someone gets double or triple charged for their tabs! I was charged $ 145 on my $ 52 tab! They are thieves, so if you go there, bring cash, or be prepared to have the bar tenders charge you double or triple for the cheap ass drinks you bought. Good luck.

I must be terse with this review, so here I go: Not digging this place at all. Simply awful. Perhaps I’m just not a party-goer who likes to dance to crappy music that was crappy when it originally debuted, or I just don’t like to be packed into a bar that makes a sardine can feel roomy. Seriously, fire hazard anyone? Not my type of bar in the least. Keep on moving down Colfax, east or west, and you’re sure to find a better establishment. And a better experience.

If you’re looking for a chill place with exciting drinks and tasty food, this is NOT it. Turn around and leave. However, what it lacks in swankyness, Rock Bar makes up for in total awesomeness. Cheap drinks(don’t expect them to be able to make anything fancy), beer in cans, rockin’ 80’s music, places to sit, arcade games, pool table, I mean… what else could you want in a dive bar? Key word: DIVE. This place is a dive. I used to dress up in 80’s outfits with friends, party here, and then go get cupcakes at the Shoppe(sometimes they bring free ones over!). It is not classy. It doesn’t try to be classy. It is what it is; a dive bar with cheap drinks, no cover, and music from decades past.

I’ve only been to RockBar on Friday and Saturday nights. A great cheap alternative to the clubs. Get your boogy on while getting your drink on. You will see people dressed up, but that is not on purpose. I think those people were already out on the town and had too much to drink and found themselves dancing with me on the dance floor — AFTER they were at some other classy place. Not classy, not upity. Good music that you remembered from the good times when music was good. Just fun, just boogy woogy good times.

A guy who thought he was In-The-Know told me last night that Rockbar had CANCELED80s NIGHT. Say whaaaa? Whachoo talkin’ bout, Willis? He said they’d fired the mohawked DJ(DJ Boy George, I think, is the name he rocked under) and done away with the Thursday Night 80s Dance Party. Thankfully, further research proved that this guy wasn’t nearly as In-The-Know as he claimed to be. Yes, DJ Boy George is gone… but 80s Night is still Alive And Kicking. It’s just on Fridays now! Whew… I was worried for a second. That said, some friends and I TRIED to go to Rockbar last night, but there was some sort of velvet rope set up outside, and they were enforcing a one-in, one-out system. Uggggh. How very Los Angeles of them. How very LoDo. How very annoying. Needless to say, we kept on walking. I hate it when word gets out about something cool. Mostly because I hate bandwagon-jumping people. Don’t worry… I’m not talking about YOU. I’m talking about YOU… you know who you are. (Not you.)

Rockbar is one of my favorite places to people watch in Denver. Every time I go here, I see a really interesting mix of people. From the most painfully, super-trendy hipster to borderline preppy. The drinks are cheap(my favorite kind) and the bartenders are fast and attentive. And even when the dance section of the bar is packed, the bar section is usually not that long of a wait. The music is awesome every time I go there and the dance floor is usually pretty packed, but there’s plenty of space to dance on the sidelines. The sit down area is just about as awesome as my mind could imagine with mirrors and retro lighting. This is a great place to go out on a Friday night if you feel like a loud, dancy night out with friends.

One day I think I’d like to leave RockBar and just check into the hotel that houses it, order some pizza and fall asleep on, what I imagine will most likely be, a vibrating bed. I think that might be one of the perfect endings for a night after RockBar. A night that contains the following: –Sweaty Dancing –Sweaty Drinking –Sweaty Viedo-gaming –Sweaty Pool While I might not be painting the best picture of RockBar here, I want to make sure that everyone understands that I’ve had a great time every time I’ve been to RockBar. It’s great place to indulge in your cheap-beer-drinking, old-school-dancing, primal self. The’ve opened a back-bar by the dance floor that makes getting a drink as easy as can be. Pretty much everything else is as described by my fellow RockBar compatriots. See you there.

Here, in no particular order, is a list of things that you can find at Rock Bar: 1. Shots of Mad Dog 20/20, in multiple flavors for the discerning tongue 2. The fast version of Ms. Pac-Man, which I had the high score on as of 1 am this morning 3. Other old school video games such as Donkey Knog, Frogger, Joust and Defender 4. Some of the cheapest drinks you’ll enjoy in the Mile High City 5. Sweet old school hip-hop and 80s music 6. A mirrored wall that allows you to check out your sweet dance moves 7. A lounge area for resting your tired dancing feet or pretending you are VIP 8. A giant line any time after 11:30 on the weekends 9. A super sticky floor 10. People from LOTS of walks of life So, you know, it’s a casual place that you can dance to on almost any night while drinking bum wines on the cheap. Works for me.
