my roommate likes to remind me that ‘nothing good ever happens at the rockmada’. for the most part, she’s right. but all of the weird/creepy/terrible stuff always happens after a good hour or two, so i’m giving the rock 4 stars. it might be the strange lighting, the fact that my friends bartend there, or the outdoor poolside seating, but somehow my nights always feel soooooooo loooooong when i am there — or quite possibly it’s getting hit on by every dewd from out of town looking to hook up with one of us legendary colorado gals. whatever it may be, the rockmada never fails to get my three sheets up and flapping, and regardless of what happens toward the end of the night, i always have fun getting there. ps the pool table is possibly the most frustrating thing thing this side of broadway. boooooo

CLOSED!!! Another one bites the dust. Seriously, Dubya… your last legacy is going to be running every last small business into the ground with your crap-ass economy. That’s just awesome. Was that your«strategery?» To only leave the big dogs standing? I hate you so much. Some friends of mine tried to venture into the Rockmada Lounge a couple nights ago. When they couldn’t find a way in, they asked the woman at the desk what was up. «Oh you mean the LOUNGE,» she sneered, «The one that’s CLOSED until somebody BUYSIT and wants to OPENIT again.» Okay. Anyone want to go in on a group ticket? Buy it? Open it again? I think that’d make Front Desk Lady a bit happier. And really, don’t we all just want to be happy?

I think this place may sway a star or two but I wouldn’t know, because every time I end a long night at the Rockmada the events get hazy. I don’t know what it is about this place but it tends to cap off a night of complete randomness. From literally running into Neil Fallon with a friend who i had come to the bar with so he could drink away the pain of being kicked out of the Clutch show hours earlier. Or a cowboy party, or a spontaneous dance party in galoshes. This dark bar intrigues me so. Am I the only one who thinks of a catchy late 90’s song No Pigeons? The charming chorus goes something like«your *****(kitty) ain’t worth the ramada.» ouch.

I find it extremely amusing that this bar is located inside of the Ramada Hotel, yet locals go there to whet their whistles. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I mean. I drank there on Saturday night. Cheap Peeber and 50 cents jello shots make it attractive. The internet jukebox makes it fun if the person picking the songs has decent taste. It is a little trippy to actually walk out of the bar and into the hotel to go to the restroom. Overall, I had a good time and met a lot of people from out of town as well as in town. That’s about it. It’s a bar. In a hotel. That serves beer. That’s good enough for me.

I don’t know abt nice bartenders, but I can say it’s fun playing poker here whilst there are drink specials. this place used to have a decent menu with some of the best guinness-battered chicken tenders ever. now it’s called«gator done» — WHHYYYYY!!! and the whole menu is gator — WTF!!! after it changed over to gator cuisine, i went and was really hungry so i had the jambalaya which was actually tasty, pleasant & spicy. has big buck hunter for fun shooting fake guns and cute little animated deer!

So, I learned a little bit more about the Rockmada and about myself last Wednesday. First off, I learned that I don’t like Gator. Not even a little bit. Especially not Gator ribs. Second, I learned that the restaraunt next door to the Rockmada is not a mexican restaraunt. It’s called«Gator Done» and it apparently serves gator ribs hopefully among other things. I also learned that the pool table is pretty mobile, so if you want to play pool you just slide it out so it’s not so close to the wall. So don’t plan it being level. They also no longer serve Agave Wheat beer, but I’m probably the only person who drank that, so no big loss.

December 31st2006 Drinking gin martini’s up and dirty at the bar. Don’t remember drinking all 5… but do remember hitting my head on the bathroom floor, falling on the dance floor, and not walking with the greatest of ease. I won’t disgrace myself by recounting all of what I don’t remember except to say I did some laughing and crying. All within minutes of each other. Oh, I had to be carried out to the cab all before the clock struck 12. Not one of my brightest moments. But can I say the drinks were potent. The bartenders friendly and according to my hubs super nice about helping him get a cab. Much to my embarrassment I never thought I would return, but thanks to the Elite Unilocal event I was able to face Rockmada, drink, and not manage to drink myself into a stupor and I left walking quite normally. I have faced my drunken shenanigans and I can now return to Rockmada any ol’ time!

No Matter where my evening takes me, I usually wind up at the ‘Mada. I love this place for the same reasons everyone else does: cheap drink specials, fun bartenders, and an Internet jukebox(Wanna have some fun? Cue up an obscure, 10-minute Kraftwerk song just to watch the crowd squirm). But the real fun at the Mada is that the crowd changes with the seasons, with local events and just day to day, by virtue of its hotel lobby status. I’ve met touring musicians, skateboarders, conventioneers, people in mourning, wedding guests and even creepy billionaire Australian winemakers here. You never know who you’ll meet at the Rockmada. And yes, Big Buck Hunter is fun for the whole family.

WHO’S THIRSTY!?! If you are feeling the urge for a stiff drink and an eclectic crowd, you better belly up to the Rockmada Lounge. With friendly bartenders, cheap drinks and that bowling video game, you couldn’t ask for more. Or could ya?

Do you want to play Big Buck Hunter and drink a can of PBR in the lobby of a hotel without feeling like you are in the lobby of a hotel? If you answered yes to this question, you are apparently just like me and we should hang out. ATTHEROCKMADA… I got this far into my review and read the other ones and just realized I just repeated almost verbatim what they said… And you know what? I DON’T CARE. Playing Big Buck Hunter in the Rockmada and listening to the nice Jukebox selection while sipping a cold one is just that good.

how was the first review on this place just yesterday? I mean, I gotta get up on this Unilocal dilly; I mean, basically i live across the street from the Rockmada, the old tiki lounge, as some might know it. But, all things considered, Tiffany got it right: How are you gonna pass up Big Buck Hunter Pro and cheap drinks and nice, hardy, speedy service? You’re not. Just like you’re not gonna beat my high score on Buckhunter. I don’t know if they’re gonna do it like this summer, but last year, every Sunday the Rockmada hosted a pool party dj’ed by Wesley Wayne, featured a bevy of cheap summertime drinks(e.g. margaritas, corona’s, etc.), and made for some nice swimming. Yeah, yeah.

Where can you play Big Buck Hunter and drink $ 2PBR cans? Rockmada! Even though this bar is in a hotel, it isn’t a fancy schmancy hotel bar. I really like the atmosphere here which is usually quite and dark. And the bartenders, which are usually friendly and heavy-handed on the pour. They also have a pool table and a foosball table to keep you entertained. And I hear if you’re drinking here during the summer time you can use the pool too. Sweetness.
