The people at Extra Space were extremely professional and eager to please. One of them even dropped what he was doing and ran out to shovel the snow away from my unit. They seem to have this business down to a science.

Stay away. The description here is completely false. They do not have a ‘green’ or ‘clean’ feel. It is industrial and depressing. There is no bathroom except in the office, and that is only open during their business hours. It is rarely clean. Many of the units have a substance on the floor that looks like a white powder and toxic and the floors are scratched away. There are absolutely no garbage facilities whatsoever anywhere, not even a small garbage can. There are signs everywhere however to the effect that you better not attempt to leave anything near the dumpster(which is the only thing securely locked– with a chain and bolt– so you can’t get in) or you’ll be fined and ‘smile you’re on camera.’ The wheeled furniture movers are stained deeply with a soiled liquidy substance. It feels very unsafe being here, and more often than not, the gates, which are supposed to be down and locked, are LEFTOPEN, therefore, anyone can come in and out, and moving companies are given ‘passwords’ so really anyone can come in at anytime. Since the place is barren and empty(you’ll hear the sound of something dripping and leaking) it’s pretty spooky. There might be cameras everywhere, but that does not matter. The manager here does not apparently review or look at them. He is the one person on the premises, and since he tends to be volatile with females, it is extra unsafe feeling. The claim that the manager lives on premises is apparently also false. The manager’s car is gone at 6PM along with him, and he complains of ‘wanting to get home.’ On his ‘day off,’ in an emergency, he was completely unavailable. I believe it is false this statement that management lives on premises. This used to be run by Hampshire. Hampshire was bought out in what felt like an overnight transaction and suddenly it was Extra Storage– with none of the existing tenants forewarned(and the tenants weren’t happy about it). Extra Space, which is located in Salt Lake City, is run by a CEO who has come back to the company after finishing time on a Mormon conversion mission. Their website promises top customer service, but they do not follow through on this. Extra Space, in taking over from Hampshire, brought in a site manager who is nasty and completely unprofessional. He is ‘overseen’ by Area Supervisor Jim Klein who is also unavailable if needed. The only thing they are on top of is sending bills and raising the rent. They also recently lowered the rates to new tenants, but raised it for existing ones, which is not positive business behavior. They have also included a recent change to their leases where they ask you to please sign saying that if you have a problem you won’t pursue it legally, but arbitrate. This in itself is telling. The Better Business Bureau claims«hundreds» of cases for just this ONE location. The main office in Salt Lake City(a corporation) says that they«never give out any information on the name, etc. of the CEO, President, etc), but being a corporation, it’s all online, including their legal counsel, annual report, and profiles of the geniuses who run this awful operation. This information is on file with the government. Their Facebook page is filled with pages and pages of complaints from their customers, which is pretty pathetic. There are many, many storage options. If you like abuse, this is your place. If you feel seriously about customer service, not being treated disrespectfully or abusively by management, GOELSEWHERE.
