Chef D’s Rock Power Pizza

Chef D goes beyond pizza! I have had calzones that were better than any I had in Chicago. He also catered an event of mine which included a ton of delicious wings, a vegetarian pasta dish, and fresh salads. Very fast service as well. And Chef D is a very charitable, inspirational person.

The mission and owner are so awesome AND the food is great! He may only be able to keep the door open a few more months because the location is not ideal and he does not have a huge budget for marketing. His money goes to feeding the homeless on Monday nights. Please consider coming out and sharing about this good food and good cause. Read about his appearance last year on the Ellen Show:

Love this place. We ordered the coney dog and a pepperoni and mushroom pizza. We found out Chef D is a Detroit local (where we are from) and were glad to hear that his ingredients for the coney dogs are purchased from Detroit. Let me tell you, the coney dog is authentic! I’ve been craving a coney dog since I’ve moved to Des Moines and just found out about Chef D’s! Detroit is known for their coney dogs so if you ever want to try one without having to visit Michigan, check out Chef D’s! The pizza was also really delicious. The crust is superb.
Come here if you want delicious food and friendly and inspirational conversation. Chef D is awesome :)

This place will make you go home with a smile. The owner is amazing. What restaurant can you go to that can be life changing for a person. The best of all the food is good and everything is inspirational. You got to experience it to understand how wonderful it is.

WOW! what an amazing experience. Menu with everything from pizza, sandwiches, salads and calzones. Very clean, fantastic service and excellent food. Chef D is a giving man who makes the experience that much better. I was there with a group of ladies, they gave us special attention and FLOWERS! Nice touch and I will for sure be back!

Before I began the review I just want to say I will definitely be back here again to try their other products and am hoping to give a higher star review.
I had always heard about this place how they have awesome food, never heard a bad thing about this place. I decided to order carry out pizza and had my wife pick it up for me because I was at work. I got the large Buffalo Chicken Thin crust pizza. (I think you can only do thin crust)
The pizza was OKAY. I’ve had much better pizza in the past and also much worse. There was nothing that was interesting or amazing about it, just a pizza without any excitement. I was honestly disappointed because I had such high expectations.
Now I’ve looked over their menu and a lot of items tickle my tastebuds and my curiosity. I definitely want to try some of their awesome sounding menu items to see if my pizza was just a bad choice to order. The next time I try it I hope to eat in as well so I can have the full experience.

Where do I start! My family and I were just looking for a place to grab some pizza so I got on Unilocal to check some places out! We were not even sure where to go and we picked Chef D’s on a whim! We got far more than great food too! We pulled in and walked in the door and they seated us right away and Chef D had just left I guess but he called the hostess. My mom mentioned that she and my dad were from out of town and my wife and I just moved to the area as well! Anyways the hostess brings the phone to the table on speaker phone and he starts talking to us. Then in about 10 minutes he walks in and comes to talk to us and all of the other diners there as well! Which there were people from California and Oklahoma that came to eat there because they saw him on Ellen! We had no clue he had been on there and he then told us his amazing story of trials in his life and about his mission! I have to say it is really amazing what this man is doing for the community! He is very passionate about his goal and spreading the word of God, but he is not pushy or overbearing at all! He does not care who you are or your circumstance he will show you love and compassion! I have to say this is by far the most amazing place I have ever been, we went for pizza and got much more than the great food! I mean when you shake everyone’s hand in the place, that is just amazing! I really could go on all day about this place, but needless to say the pizza, stuffed burger, and coney dog were all amazing! And the experience was phenomenal! 5 stars all day just for the experience, just amazing absolutely amazing!

won’t be back — sandwich meat didn’t taste good at all. $ 10 for a sandwich — both of us got one — neither one of us ate it. chef said he rotates the meat so that it is fresh. when you buy lean capacola, it doesn’t stay fresh 5 days. if it comes in on Thursday, by Saturday it should be getting a smell. we were there on Wednesday.

Along with others, I have never been here, but Chef D’s story should be an inspiration to us all! He has been featured on The Ellen Degeneres Show for being a true example of the American Dream. Chef D has gone from living on the streets himself to now owning this restaurant. In return, he closes each Monday night to feed the homeless. Please help support local businesses, especially those run by great people such as Chef D! Karma goes a long way… Thanks Chef D!

i will definetly be visiting your restaurant when i make it to des moines… your big heart of doing the work that so many of us just talk about has truly inspired me to get more involved in my own community. chef d you are truly an inspiration to many people out there who give up on there own dreams due to obstacles and challenges they have faced. may you continue to recieve blessings for all your hard work.

This man gives back to the community and serves the homeless every Monday. Everyone should make it to this restaurant to support him and his efforts to better Des Moines!

Chef D delivered us some very fine pizza a couple of weeks back. We can’t wait to try it again! Delivery was prompt and extremely friendly. They’re a little tough to get ahold of on the phone to order (and they do close on Monday for charity), but keep trying. It’s excellent food. The online menu was outdated, so request a paper one!

I don’t live anywhere remotely close to Des Moines, IA– rather Des Moines, WA– and wish there was a restaurant with a chef and owner closer to home. After watching a short clip of Chef D on Ellen– I ran to read up on this amazing man who is an inspiration to others and his community. I can understand big corporate chains that close their doors once a week to feed the homeless and those in need (although due to the mighty dollar being supreme over those in need it’s so rare even big chains close down 1 time a year to feed those in need) I commend this owner for what he does for his community. We should all help all those we can in not only big ways– but little ways. Eating here and supporting this small business will help ensure he can continue to close his doors on Mondays to feed those who need meals the most.
Thank you Chef D for being a Stewart in your community and by leading by example. I hope your business continues to prosper and that your footprint in your community inspires others to do more.

Tried once so far. completely satisfied. had the taco pizza. next time I plan on trying one of their specialty pizzas. Very friendly service as well. Will definitely be eating here again
