Cozy Cafe

I enjoy their breakfast. Excellent deal in the morning. I ordered one of their burgers and was very plain, I believe they messed up my order. Seems like a new server is there every time I go. The manager is always working hard and is very pleasant.

Just had breakfast here yesterday, and found our food solid. I had the biscuits and gravy served over hash browns with eggs. The biscuits were good, and the hash browns crispy. Our waitress was very friendly. Prices are on par and would visit again.

This place is a joke! My wife and ordered delicious looking food and as soon as they put it on our table, we see a long black hair on top of our eggs. I know no one is perfect but we expect better. Needless to say, we went to Perkins.
Pretty friendly staff however most of them look like they’ve recently quit Meth.

Five of us including two kids were at the Urbandale location at 5:30 on a Saturday night. We were the only customers at first and half the chairs were on top the tables which seemed a bad sign. We ordered pancakes for the hungry boys and asked for them as soon as possible. Remember, no other customers. Took 45 minutes. Seriously? The other three orders were all wrong. The Cozy Mess was lacking gravy. She had to remind the waitress (who was then busy) twice. The asked for piece of chicken was missing, then promised in 17 minutes and never delivered. No apology. My cavatelli was not baked, just sauce and noodles. The breadstick was about three days stale. Then it got busy and we finally went up front to get our bill since the boys were getting restless sitting so long. Won’t be back which is too bad since it used to be much better. Understaffed and disorganized. The chairs on top of the tables say to me that they don’t expect much business. Probably a reason for that.

Brought my daughter here for breakfast and it was horrible. Got myself a sausage breakfast sandwich on a croissant. Opened it and my sausage was the size of a silver dollar coin. Asked the waitress to bring me another patty and it was ice cold and hard. Got the breakfast bites with it and they had zero seasoning or flavor. Tasted like grease. Pancake was good. About it.

I’ve gone to the Cozy Café location on Hickman Road in the past and had an enjoyable experience. This time around, I bought a Groupon online and decided to try the one on Dougles Ave. The same great food I’ve ordered at the Hickman location was sub-​par at best here.
Even more importantly, the entire place had a disgusting scent that bothered us throughout the entire meal. When I asked our waitress what the scent was, she stated that the building’s plumbing had issues. So, what we were breathing in the entire time was the Oder of human feces. Nice.
I’m giving more then one star because our waitress was kind and timely.

The Judge was not impressed by THIS location of Cozy Café… We have had good luck with the Waukee location…
So Mrs. Dredd and the Judge visited. This is a building that has been many places in it’s past. Which you could tell. Staff was middle of the road.
She ordered breakfast. Bacon, eggs, browns and such. Eggs over easy came out a little runny on the egg whites…:(Bacon and browns were fine. Tad high priced breakfast in Judge’s opinion.
Judge ordered the all white meat friend chicken. Chicken was cooked fresh, decent breading. Taters and gravy were not bad at all. However the chicken I waited a long time to get since it was fresh. Was a Leg and thigh. Not the 2 breast meal. I let the waitress know. She has to go talk to the other waitress about this. Then the other gal comes over… She told me they would get the right items going. I sit and wait again. They send me out 2 thigh’s not breasts. At this point we were ready to leave. I took them to go, why bother bringing it up again. As the cook must not know what a chicken breast looks like?
They charged me for a extra thigh and the 2 breast meal which we know the Judge did not get. Not to mention the all white meat chicken meal costs more.
JUDGEMENT:The Judge is not impressed with this location of Cozy Café. Cooks should know what they are cooking. But give this one a try and see what you think for yourself. You be the Judge.

I like Cozy Cafes in general but this is my favorite. They have a convenient drive through, my spouse loves their cake, and I enjoy the tenderloins and burgers. I have had their roast beef with green beans more than once. I would recommend this place for real food fast.

Friendly service and great food! My wife and I enjoyed a nice Sunday breakfast, at a low price too. I would recommend this cozy place to anyone!

Just left here and hubby is still hungry. He ordered a cheese omelet and it came out with this slab of cold cheese in the middle. He sent it back and decided not to order anything else. The restaurant was dirty and service slow and there were only 5 people eating there– including us– on Easter Sunday at noon. Should have been our first clue I guess. We won’t be back. i like to eat local but we will avoid this place.

Cavatelli was pretty good but not the best. Got the Hot Sicilian and Cozy for carryout on Sunday for the BOGO free special. The deal made it worthwhile but we expected a little bigger portion considering the regular menu price. Our party was spilt on which was better, the one with marinara or just Alfredo. The one breadstick that came with each order was not hard and had a hint of garlic flavor. Drive thru service was speedy and convenient which is something that should help parents with young kids. I had a breakfast sandwich with fried potatoes a while ago (drive thru) and thought it was fresh, a good value and cooked well. The breakfast experience leans this review toward 4 stars and the cavatelli a 3 – 3.5.

We stopped going to Cozy Café months ago because of lousy food and lackluster service. Then management closed down for remodeling for about six months. Don’t know what was done? Maybe something with the seating?
I smelled a faint whiff of sewer gas when we arrived, my friend did not, but we almost got up and left. The place wasn’t busy but it seemed we were getting forgotten. When we did get service the server, J_​_​_​_​, was courteous and friendly, so I tipped him well.
The food is mediocre… at best. My friend ordered the hot roast beef sandwich. She had to send it for re-​heating. I ordered the cavatelli. It is supposed to be the old Helen’s and Pat’s receipt but I dunno… Did I say it was mediocre?
I’m in no hurry to return.

We are here at least once a week and almost always for breakfast. They have great tasting pancakes and keep your coffee full. Some mornings are busier than others but if so the wait isn’t that long. The staff is always greeting you when you walk in the door and work with you if you have dietary needs. We have come so much that they have our orders memorized.

The minute we walked in we were greeted by most of the staff with a happy hello. We got to choose our own seat and our waitress was very friendly and very cheerful. We ordered our food and drinks and before we knew it our food arrived. We ordered 3 different meals and they all tasted great and it was hot. The only reason it did not receive 5 stars is because they don’t serve breakfast all day. I was really looking forward to breakfast and was a little disappointed that I couldn’t get any. Overall experience was good!

I dined at this restaurant on New Year’s Day and got the worst service I have ever received. Not only was the service really slow, but the servers were really rude. The food wasn’t very good either. I will never dine at another Cozy Café again.

We got there at 9 am and were still given the 6 – 9 am special! The food was great and the service was friendly.

This comfy place is really good. Best breakfast place I’ve found in Des Moines. They altered what was formerly a Wendy’s and turned it a nice spot. Most importantly, the food is fresh and tasty.
