Stopped at a hotel and this was the only place delivering food at 9:40 pm. I rarely give reviews but when a restaurant is this good you must tell the world. Crispy Wings with delivery, amazing salad and the meatball pizza is top notch. I’ll stop in Des Moines just to eat here again.

The best salad and pizza in town!!! Cold beer right on the bike trail. You will first fall in love with the cavatelli then they have you hooked! Orlandos has been one of my favorite Des Moines restaurants since it was on 39th& Uni!

Had not been to Orlondo’s since it was in the Drake neighborhood. They moved, I moved out of town, and now that I’m back I thought I’d see if it was the same tasty delight as it was years ago — I was not disappointed. I was dining alone and arrived around 5:30, so there were only a couple of people there — both at the bar, so I pulled up a seat there. The bartender was on the phone with a lengthy takeout order, so I waited a few minutes and was then cheerfully greeted and I placed my drink order. This is a VERY casual bar setting, so there are wines available, but the selection is limited so I opted for something else instead. The bar had a nice selection for liquors, but I’m not a beer drinker so I can’t comment on that… I ordered the full serving of cavatelli, which comes with what they classify as a medium salad; I’d call it medium/large. We used to joke that the salad was a handful(or two) of lettuce, a handful of cheese, and a handful of dressing. Those quantities have held up well over the years, and the creamy house dressing is a must on the salad. The cavatelli provides a ‘build your own-pick 2′ option, so I went with the sausage and veggies. You can take all 4 veggies — onions, roasted red peppers, olives, and mushrooms, or any subset. There are also meatball, pepperoni, and chicken as options for the pick 2. The cavatelli was wonderful — baked in the serving dish with ample cheese and a generous serving of all the contents — veggies, pasta, and sausage. It was as good as I remember it being 15 years ago. The full order was more than enough for a meal and another take-home portion. Since they are on the bike trail, people wander in from that door as well as from the parking lot on the Park side. There are about 6TV’s scattered throughout the dining area and bar, and the interior is neat and as previously mentioned — very casual. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and prices are very reasonable.

Great little place. Can’t comment a lot on anything other than pizza, salad, and the beer. All three of which are good. I’ve seen the other dishes and they look good but I don’t go to a steak house and get chicken nor do I go to pizza place and get the spaghetti! But if that’s your this I wouldn’t balk at it. Right off the trail normally ride my bike there and hit it both ways. They do sell pizza by the slice at time and have a small area to eat outside. another thing that makes me feel good is when I arrive on my bike I come in through the back and you get to see the garden. So if everything is in season you get a REAL tomato in your salad not the pink grainy ice cold hydroponic tomato.

Always awesome! The pizza is delicious and the service is great! The server named Johnna is fantastic and is very good at her job! Orlando’s is a must try!

While this place has potential, it falls short in my book. The potential is in the toppings: plenty of veggies, decent meats and a fine, tangy sauce. However, they load it up so much on a thin, cardboard flavored crust, that it just slides off. The crust, as mentioned, offers nothing in terms of taste. It could stand a little boost of garlic and olive oil to help. They do deliver to your home, so that is one plus. Overall, however, Gusto or Eatery A have significantly better pizza.

We ordered 4 diff types of Pizza… I must say. If you are going to come here… Order the Orlondo Special… I think thats what its called. I’m taking a star off because the pizza took a really long time. But then again we ordered a lot.

Stopped in for lunch was rather surprised at how busy the place was. One waitress on staff for a total of 10 full tables. One bartender for 4 sitting at the bar. Still was able to get our meal, eat it and pay within 30 min. There were two of us. I had a small salad with the best creamy Italian dressing ever! And an order of cheesy garlic bread… very filling had 3 slices left over. My friend had the Italian blt sandwich and side salad. Said it was very good! Our whole meal was $ 16.37.

A pizza place that opens past midnight and has a bar that’s not in downtown? Yes please! I just recently discovered this place while trying to find a place to eat late at night. I was very pleased with my visit here. It is located right off the bike trail and I hear many bikers(bicycle riders) would often stop in here for a bite to eat before continuing on their way. Their menu is short and simple, appetizers, cavatellis, pizza, etc. But I wanted to try the pizza because I heard that is what they are known for The pizza did not disappoint! We custom chose the toppings and everything was excellent, it tasted so fresh and well-prepared. Their homemade toppings were excellent I highly recommend those, they are listed as homemade next to the toppings. We also exchanged the regular pizza sauce with garlic sauce, it was the right switch to make! The staff member who helped us was extremely friendly and made our visit that much better! Apparently they also have karaōke on certain nights and many difference menu specials different nights of the week! I will definitely be back for more!

Service Unilocal only: Walked out at 8:20 tonight without ever ordering drinks! Server in a cowboys jersey stopped by as we were sitting down to take our drink order and we asked for one minute to take in the selection. 20+ minutes later we walked out. She was tucking chairs under the table all around us and tidying tables as we sat and starred at her trying to get her attention. It wasn’t really busy and she wasn’t the only server staffed either. It’s a bummer, I used to love Orlando’s but I won’t be returning to eat after a bike ride anytime soon after this service.

Pizza was good but we waited over 30 minutes for two pizzas. The wait staff didn’t seem too enthused about serving people in a timely manner or accommodating pickier patrons(the guy next to us said something about having«this issue here before»).

Visited when back in town. We went here on one of our first dates 23 years ago. They still rock. A delicious house salad and homemade dressing… YUM. Their Cavatelli is still just as great too. We love this dive.

You have to try the Cavatelli. I think it ‘s the best in town. I usually get the Cavatelli Combo with Italian Sausage & Meatballs for $ 8.50. A half order comes with a small salad, garlic bread and enough Cavatelli for two meals. I love the house dressing. It’s the creamy Italian type. They bottle it and sell it at local grocery stores. It is a bit of a dive. It’s located right next to a bike trail and can be packed when there’s a biking event going on.

Awesome place. Wish it was better known. Bridget was very personable and easy to get along with. Wendy was extremely helpful and had no problems with our drinks, despite having ordering quite a few. Carly was amazing as well, she was extremely social. She had no problem engaging us in conversation and making us feel welcome. The food was amazing and the drinks were very affordable. A bigger crowd would work wonders in getting this place the money it deserves.

I give this place 5 stars for the pizza and the appetizers. Amazing crust, tons of cheese, great sauce. It is right up there with my top pizzas in Des moines. The place is divey though but if you are ok with that then get over there and get the Orlondo’s special. Even if you aren’t, they deliver so order them next time you get pizza. Check out my blog if you would like to see my full review of Orlondo’s or any other Des moines eateries.

Great sandwiches. Great pizza. Kind of a dive inside but not in a bad, you’re going to get shot kind of way. Bartenders are friendly, drinks are reasonably priced, and the food is excellent. Eat it there or take out. Doesn’t matter. A Des Moines institution. Don’t miss out.

Love Orlondo’s. Use to go quite often when it was at a different location 20 years ago. This building isn’t that great but the food was spot on delicious again. The cavatelli is the disk you must try.

Atmosphere of a dive bar with a hidden gem of great pizza! I have eaten here twice now both were over the lunch hour. Both times there were a few other tables there but not a lot people. We started with the Jamician Chicken Nachos which have chicken, black beans, pineapple, salsa, onions, black olives and finally melted mozzarella. They were pretty tasty for something out of the box. Our main dish was the Orlondo Combo pizza, a 16″ thin crust pizza with the works for toppings. The crust was crispy the toppings were plentiful and the whole thing was straight from the oven and hot. I enjoyed every bite as well as the people I was dining with. I will be back here again, maybe try them as supper time so I can have a beer with this tremendous pizza.

To be honest I was a little skeptical going to this establishment just because of the outside apperence is not all that inviting. How ever once inside it was great. Our server and bartenders were great. We had pizza and Italian Nachos. They were by far some of the best pizza and nachos I have had in this city. Nice thin crisp crust very good sauce and lots of cheese! It was a friday night and they had live music that night as well. Will for sure be going back.
