In search of a good latte, I optimistically gave Sidebar a chance. I was horribly disappointed. The girl did ask if I wanted«both shots» in my latte, and she did ask, «2% okay?»(No, whole milk is standard). But the pile of foam made me want to cry. Not the place for nicely foamed milk. Nice environment though, free wifi, skywalk access.

We are in IOWA a lot on business and I had stumbled upon this place while out for a walk. I like the clean and simple presentation of this place. Good beverage BUT super upsetting when their hours are posted, you bundle your family up and walk here to find out they are closed.

I decided to venture a little further during my morning break and saw signs about Sidebar, so I stopped by for coffee #2. It’s on the first floor of Capital Square, right across from Big City Burgers. The place is very inviting, due to the large windows and clean environment. You order up front and there are also pastries behind a glass window, gelato, and alcoholic drinks! It was only 10:30am, so I passed on the beer and ordered a medium iced coffee. It was $ 2.50, so it was a bit pricey, but it was very good. It had a clean coffee taste to it, not too bitter or sweet… so just right. The staff was very kind, helpful, and patient while i stared at the menu. I will definitely stop by in the near future to try their other coffee drinks, cocktails, and food items.

Beautiful location, Beautiful layout, and one amazing latte! That’s the story of my first sit down experience at Sidebar! I had stopped in once before just to check out the menu. Which includes small plates, Mother Earth Fair Trade Coffee from Kansas City; handmade in house pastries; Italian imported Bindi gelato; and microbrews, fine wine and classic cocktails delights! I had a soy latte, and though it might be the most expensive latte downtown(large 5 bucks), it is also the best latte I have ever had downtown Des Moines! So you get what you pay for! I savored it! I really love the modern vibe, big windows, and chill envirement of the place! I would love to come to one of the jazz nights, or singer songwriters nights they are having! They have a full bar, killer coffee and the food looks great! All from a beautiful location! Count me in, I’m a fan!

Was stuck in downtown Des Moines and needed coffee and found Sidebar near my hotel. Espresso to the rescue! The espresso was great. Small selection of pastries, gelato, and possibly cocktails at some point? Somewhat sleek and minimalist décor. The coffee-making folks were friendly and helpful. If you are staying at a nearby hotel that has lousy coffee(pointing my finger at you Renaissance) then this is your new go-to. During my 48 hours in Des Moines, I think I was there four times. Bravo.

Only in Des Moines for a week, but we’ve stopped by here nearly every day. It’s a fun little place continuing on the trend of coffee-and-booze bars. We’re more on the coffee side, but the drinks and bites look great too. Very tasteful. Fellow members of the easily-dehydrated squad rejoice! No longer will you need to drink the dregs of last week’s decaf! They fresh-brew decaf espresso. What? Yum. Also serve gelato, if you’re into that kind of thing.
