Cute, quaint, and straight back to the 60s. I love it! This adorable ice cream parlor is a huge hit on a summer night. We walked there with our dog, who, but the way, gets a free puppy cone, and joined up with the many other dogs outside on the spacious outdoor seating. The line was out the door but moved quickly. Don’t let them intimidate you, but shows as a testament to how delicious their desserts are! FYI, they only take cash. Our puppy immensely enjoyed her cone. She had never had ice cream before. It was a real treat. Oh, and we enjoyed our treats, too. Great gem in DSM!

I have lived in Des Moines for 16yrs, but this is the only year i have visited Snookies more than once. My ex husband never wanted to leave the house, not even for an ice cream adventure. Thankfully, that relationship is over and I’m free to visit any local business i want. Snookies is a great neighborhood ice cream shop! Delicious treats and a fun place to people watch. It’s a little treacherous to get out of the parking lot. So make the calories worth it, and walk there if you can. Happy ice cream adventures!

I hadn’t had ice cream in awhile, so this was a very special treat. This small-town family-owned business is great place to take your friends who are visiting Des Moines. I had a blue raspberry slushy with ice cream in it, which I think is called a Freeze. It was so good! Also, make sure to bring cash since plastic isn’t taken. I will definitely be returning here.

Stopped by after doing a search online for an Ice Cream shop and what a great find! Very nostalgic and the Hot Fudge Malt was fantastic!

Close to the Drake campus area, semi-questionable neighborhood at night(another story in itself, but this is really not a bad or shady neighborhood in general). I’ve been there a few different times now(had to drag different peeps there) and it was always enjoyable. I will say that the chocolate malt was amazing the first time I got it, but just OK the few times after(I’m rather particular about the malt/chocolate syrup/ice cream ratio), so I swapped to a strawberry malt instead, which is yummy. Either way, it is a cute place to hang out with friends, & the swing benches in front of the store are fun to hang out on a nice day or evening.

This place is pure Americana. It’s a small, locally-owned, real-milk ice cream and even free cones for dogs! The prices are low, quality high. The only real downside is a small parking lot, and a difficult left turn to get out. Also, Snookies is a cash-only business. There’s an ATM in the grocery store across the street, but be sure to have your greenbacks ready!

This is the cutest, most quaint malt shop ever! The ice cream is so thick and great. It’s a quick little stop and definitely worth it!

Had just finished dinner in the area and stopped at Snookies for my 1st time for desert. I usually get the crunch cone at DQ so I thought I would try theirs. The price of their medium cone is more then a large at DQ. And when I received it was very small. Just in comparison to other places you can get ice cream cones in the area this place was more money for less.

A B’dale institution and a rite of Spring, it just wouldn’t be the same without counting down to Snookie’s opening for the season. They have a huge, fun selection of frozen treats and a vintage, mom-and-pop feel plus free doggie cones for your furry friends ~ just don’t use their trashcan for Fido’s dirty deeds, and bring lots of cash for your ice cream order!

Got a strawberry milk shake here that was really good. It wasn’t overly sweet, which I prefer. However make sure you are paying with cash or check– the woman taking our order was rude when we gave card, not knowing that they only accept cash(docked one star for customer service). Also this place is pretty busy during the summer, so expect a line!

They were delicious every time I went this past summer! Kind of pricey for ice cream depending on what you’re getting, but I consider the atmosphere as part of the price — cute decorations, family and pet friendly!

Snookies is a great place to cool off during the summer. My boyfriend and I walk down here as often as we can during the hot months. There are great ice cream treats here! This includes regular cones(chocolate, vanilla, flavor of the day), malts/shakes, «blizzard» type treats, sundaes, banana splits, etc. Make sure you bring cash, as they will not accept checks or credit cards. Pet friendly, too! You can get a doggie cone for your companion, which I’m sure they will love. They have a drive through and a small parking lot, but there is also a dentist’s office next door and a Price Chopper across the street for parking. Expect to spend around $ 10 on a couple of people.

This place is poppin’ during the summer season. I’ve driven here many times over the years seeing crowds and crowds of families, but have never actually stopped in until recently. The menus taped on the windows are a bit confusing as specials are all garbled, kind of triggered a bit of ADD in me. I decided to reel myself in a little and order what the rest of my group ordered: a dipped soft serve cone. To be honest, I feel like I opted for the dip just to «Do It For the ‘Gram» as I realized halfway through eating my butterscotch dipped swirl cone, that I actually appreciate the simplicity of soft serve ice cream in and of itself. Next time no dip for me! The rest of my crew, however, seemed to enjoy their dip flavors. I love the patio area and people watching. The little kids and their families were at tables, teenie boppers huddled together, furry friends accompanying their humans — — - all partaking in their love of frozen treats! Ps. Snookies serves puppy cones, but be sure to have cash on hand as they do not accept cards!

Warning: CASHONLY, NOCREDIT/DEBIT CARDSACCEPTED Perfectly crafted sweet treats for a hot summer day. They used to have the most amazing peppermint flavor dip cone, but they don’t have it anymore. Bring it back! Protip: bring your dog and you’ll get a free puppy cone for man’s best friend!

Really cute little local malt shop, it’s been in the neighborhood for at least 20 years. I heard great things and wanted to love it, but the vanilla sundae I tried was disappointing. It was soft serve, like DQ but not as sweet. I really love homemade ice cream, like really love it, but snookies flavor just wasn’t there. I may try a malt next time, but won’t go out of my way to stop by.

What a fun, old-fashioned malt shop! Snookies is great! They have tons of tasty dessert options like shakes, malts, ice cream cones, slushies, and more! There are so many flavors it’s hard to choose one! They also have some hot dogs and sandwiches. Snookies has indoor and outdoor seating. There nothing as relaxing as sitting outside with an ice cream treat! I usually get the shakes, which come with a round animal cookie. You can also request whipped cream on top of your shake. They also have mini ice cream cones for kids. Snookies is seasonal: Memorial Day to Labor Day. Also, they do not accept credit cards; they only take cash or personal checks. For that reason, I keep my checkbook in my messenger bag during the summer so u can swing by after work! Always a great choice during the summer!

When I grew up on the East Side, summers were spent eating boatloads of frozen treats at Granny’s(which is great in its own right). Now that I live a bit farther west Snookies is my home for summer treats to beat the heat! I ride past this cute little shop each day on my way to and from work. It’s tough not stopping sometimes when it’s 90 degrees on a Friday afternoon in July and I’m just a couple miles from home. I digress… Snookies is all you could want in a local malt shop. I admit I’ve never had their malts before but I’ve had shakes, Arctic Blasts(their version of a DQ Blizzard), cones, frozen bananas, floats… all delicious! Portions are always generous(might want to size down IMO) and they give FREE cones to your cute puppy!!! Forget the DQ chain and visit your local shop! They have good hours, a good location in Beaverdale, a nice seating area, and fair prices. Try them out soon. And don’t forget like most places it’s cash only(or check if that’s your thing).

Came for opening day and it was my first time coming to Snookies and it was awesome! Such a cool vibe and friendly staff! Great being able to sit outside at the picnic tables or stadium seats or some of their limited seating inside. Love the retro ordering window. Had a twist ice cream in a dish so they when it melted it wouldn’t just get on my shoes as usual. And they topped it with a cute animal cookie! Parking is off street in a nice little lot which is great! They only take cash no cards so be prepared. Overall this is a great place to hang out for warm summer days!!!

We came to Snookies on opening day with Unilocal’s Festival of Firsts! This was another true first for us! It was a bit of a drive(for us) but worth it to get a cool treat on a nice spring day. You order at one window and pick up at the next. They had really fast and friendly service. I had never seen blue raspberry or peanut butter as a dipped cone option before so we were sure to give it a try. They were both yummy with great flavor! And who could forget the special extra of an animal cracker on top! They have plenty of parking around the building. There is a lot of street traffic at this awkward intersection but that also leads to some entertainment(if you like cars screeching or speeding up). Overall, a nice place to come enjoy some ice cream on a sunny day!

YAY, what a legendary shop Snookies is! I had the pleasure of seeing so many smiling faces get their first cone of the year on opening day today! Snookies is your classic Ice Cream shop with indoor and outdoor service, lots of family friendly places to sit, and a wonderful fun environment! It makes the kids smile and makes the grand parents feel like kids again! Tons of flavors, all the classics, and every cone is topped with a little animal cracker for added cuteness! Snookies is only open seasonly so make sure you check your dates if you are coming in the spring, fall, or winter! A true Des Moines landmark and a must for anyone who loves ICECREAM!
