I have ate here at least 50 times and only had one bad experience when I tried something new and ended up not liking it. The spring roll appetizers are the best and you can’t go wrong with any of the sandwiches or burgers.

Went to the Star Bar for lunch. The atmosphere was casual. They were a little understaffed but our waitress worked hard and was friendly. The lunch menu was a little limited but everything looked good. I heard that they had good burgers so I ordered a cheeseburger medium. Unfortunately, it came out well done. The upside is that it was still delicious, just a little dry. Overall, not a bad place. I’d like to try it for dinner some time.

Been to the star bar several times for lunch. It’s a great place for a quick bite to eat and talk business too. I like the sandwiches and iced tea. They are always friendly and fast there.

Really nice place. Met with an old friend in the evening and it was dark and comfortable. Beer was cold, service was outstanding and the Thai noodle bowl was delicious but more salty than spicy. The Star Bar came recommended to me and I would recommend to others.

Unexpectedly good! Tried the special — steak risotto and my husband had the Cuban sandwich. Both way above par as far a bar food goes. Not amazing by definitely hit the spot and exceeded expectations. Enjoyed the patio on a beautiful fall evening!

I’ve been here twice with my brunch buddies, and have really enjoyed it both times. For $ 6 you get a big glass of mimosa, which I think is worth it! The waffles come with fresh strawberries, the breakfast potatoes have whole pieces of garlic, and I really suggest trying the red pepper, spinach, and goat cheese omelet. We had a big group and they let us move tables this last time and were really nice about it(I’ve been other places that get a little snarky about moving tables and large groups for brunch). I’d like to try their dinner menu soon so I can see how it stacks up to the brunch!

Cajun pasta in Des Moines! I was happy to find it. Pretty tasty.

Pulled pork pulled on my heart strings. Beyond that, Star Bar is a solid stop on ingersoll. Decent location, looks pretty nice, prices are reasonable, etc. The only issue is inconsistency between menu items(same was true for Raccoon River Brewing Co. RIP). Some things are great, while others are just alright.

Some pretty good«bar» food. They have live music pretty often. Decent draft beer selection and full bar service. Good location and tiny patio when it’s nice ouch. They have brunch on weekends but it’s not too extensive. An Ingersoll staple.

I’ve always had a great time whenever I go here! Their cocktails are fantastic(look out for the lemon drop martini, crazy strong), the crab rangoons are the best I’ve ever had in my life, you can actually see and taste the crab meat in them, and the garlic parmesan fries are to die for! I’ve had burgers here only twice(usually just come for the small plates), both times they were cooked perfectly, and everything on them was amazing. I’d highly recommend this for a get together with friends, for some small plates and a few drinks, they’ve got Angry Orchard on tap, which is a huge selling point for myself.

This is one of those places that I hit frequently. It’s got good food — though not anything amazing — and good prices. Its clean and bonus its right down the street. Definately worth a look if your in the area! I recommend their Burgers(I like the Star Bar Burger) with the french fries. I’m not a fan of the wasabi potato salad though. Its not spicy — but just sorta bland with an off flavor. Their cajun pasta is good as well. The steak is not worth the price.

The service is usually slow, but we love the spring rolls with the mango salsa. YUM! And it was super freezing cold in there the last 3 times.

The live music on the weekends is cool and I do like the space… However, each time I have been there, the service was quite slow and the food was not that great, even for pub/bar food. I have had the chicken philly, shrimp and grits, and edamame and wasn’t very impressed. The edamame was soaked in soy sauce which is not at all how edamame should be served.

Fair prices for quality food & drink. A step up from typical bar food. The outdoor seating is great during warmer months. Live music is common a few nights per week. Service can be spotty, but generally, is good.

I really dig the Star Bar, They have live music, they have great beers, the staff is always cool! They have a great Veggie Burger that is vegan if you ask for no cheese! They load you with fries, or onion rings! You can sit out side or in! It really is delightful, enjoyed every moment I have ever spent here! If your looking for a place that’s a little nicer with out being stuffy, this is a perfect spot to hang for a night with friends or a date!

Stopped in for a working lunch with some colleagues prior to a meeting with a local client. Appreciated the large booths that allowed us to spread out and get some work done. Prices were reasonable… 3 of us ate for less than $ 40(no alcohol).

Close to work so I eat there occasionally. My one dine-in experience was less than extraordinary. Busy time of day so the waitress barely had time for us. However, my carryout experiences have been good. I’m a fan of their burgers & fries. I do hate that when you google them, it doesn’t lead you straight to their website or a menu. Almost impossible to find their actual website and menu other than using an alternative site.

This has been a well known Des Moines spot for some time now. In prior years deservingly known for prompt service and great food and drink. I find myself coming here less these days. Service is slow, and often absent. The beer selection also now leaves something to be desired. Most recently I enjoyed mushy fish tacos while looking at damaged booths and weird art. Worth a try if you are on Ingersoll and have little impetus to try much else. Otherwise until a menu update, some reno, and a major staff overhaul I would not make coming here a priority.

I have frequented Star Bar since my college days and have always been a fan. The food is delicious, although I will admit I stick with what I know(the turkey, bacon & swiss panini with a side of honey mustard is sinfully good). The beer and martini selection is wide enough for anyone to find something they like, as well. Occasionally on Friday or Saturday nights they have live music, usually an eclectic blend of music styles, which is good free entertainment but it often makes it hard to hear your companions. Unfortunately, I cannot give Star Bar higher than three stars simply because the service I receive is typically average at best. Even when I have visited during off-hours(for example, a 3pm lunch), it takes forever for my food to get to me and even longer to get my check. Expect to wait awhile on almost everything at Star Bar.
