If they know the store is close and will be crowded why they open only 2 lanes ?? Crazy! Alot of staff walking around doing nothing so why they can not help?

I really don’t like writing negative reviews but in the 14 years I have been going to this grocery store, off and on, I have had the same negative experience each and every time. The people who work here absolutely hate their job. I know this because they complain about their jobs constantly to one another in front of the customers. I’m in the customer service business and this is exactly what NOTTODO. I can’t believe that after not visiting for over a year, I went back, and the same exact staff are still there and still complaining. And it’s not just one or two of them. It is all of the long term staff. The teenage help are the only ones who don’t complain. Bickering about your boss in front of customers is unacceptable. It is obviously a company culture and maybe the boss really is a jerk. So quit and give the rest of us a break. We’re just tryiing to buy our family groceries and don’t need to be exposed to your unhappiness each and every time we visit.

So scratch that part about«taking things off the shelves that shouldn’t be there.» My husband went to Dominick’s yesterday and bought some frozen chicken. He brought it home, and it had obviously been thawed and refrozen. It looked pretty gross, and he ended up throwing it away since food-borne illness is not his thing. Come on, Dominick’s! I really wanted to say nice things about you since you were open when nobody else was and we all needed food! Why must you tarnish your newly-improved reputation with this chump behavior?

I go in on a sunday morning when there are no customers to exchange propane tank. The young lady t the register calls«customer service» and as she is asking her about the propane tank all I hear is someone say with anger«no one told me anything!» Are you kidding me I am asking for something that is so easy to do why are you fussing about this. Now working with someone wo is negative can effect the rest of the employees. And its the day before memorial day stop being such an a@%@**#+e about everything. Horrible experience. Ill never go back. Btw it was the«book keeper» of all people putting up a fuss.

I think Dominicks is fairly expensive, but this one in particular has something that I love. This store has very friendly people working here. One lady in particular named Barb is a total asset to this place. She is so nice, and I kinda like when she is working just to talk to her. I do like the produce & meats as well though. Very good quality! ******if you are going to shop here make sure you get a fresh value card because unlike jewel they will NOT swipe theirs to give you the sale price! The good thing is that they can look you up by your telephone number!******

I suppose this is a fairly typical Dominick’s but I don’t really know because I only moved to Chicagoland a couple of years ago and haven’t spent any time in others. I really like this store… for the things I like it for. The produce is scarce but spacious. Skip it unless you want grapes, iceberg lettuce, broccoli, onions, or something that is intrinsically cheap and/or goes bad very, very slowly. They also had a good run of honey crisp apples when they were in season, bonus! And Ranier cherries. In other words, sparse and hit-or-miss. If you want reliable produce, go to Caputo’s down the street. I even hesitate to count on the lemons here, seriously, because they’re occasionally a bit flabby(and I use the zest). One marvels at the emptiness of this Dominck’s. I honestly don’t understand how they make ends meet, but I find it extremely appealing. The Jewel-Osco across the street is more expensive, more highly in-your-face-marketed, noticeably more cramped. What is the appeal over there exactly? Is it some kind of aspirational shopping? At Domnick’s, the meat and fish guy is knowledgeable and helpful. Even the produce people are helpful even though they don’t have much to work with. The dry goods are present and priced reasonably. But you should pay attention to the expiration dates; the stockers & vendors aren’t always on top of it. There are usually only 2 checkout lanes open because that’s all they need. My typical cart: milk, bread, broccoli, cat litter, vegetable oil, maybe some junk food. I live near downtown Des Plaines and with compliments conclude this review with my *Des Plaines Grocery Trifecta*: Caputo’s for mounds of produce and assorted Italian/Mexican foods(always my cheapest tab but probably the most nutritious); Shop&Save for produce, strange mightily-smoked-deli-counter foods and pickles from the barrel; and Dominick’s for those«normal» Con-Agra and Monsanto constructs for former Iowans like me.

I have defended Dominicks for the last time. It looks like I will be joining the rest of my family at friends at Jewel next shopping day! The 1 reason… RUDEEMPLOYEES! One day I had bought some things and brought my own 2 bags in. While checking out, I was very nice, and told the bagger that he could just shove everything in the 2 bags and that the one bag could hold a lot of weight. I was very nice, not condescending at all! Sure enough, the bagger said to the cashier, and I quote, «What is my job» and the cashier laughed and said, «I dont know». I dont think that it would take a brain surgeon to figure out that they were talking about me and assuming that I was telling the bagger how to do his job! I was very angry… but got over it. Then, one time I ran in for something and didnt have my fresh values card. When I told her I didnt have it and would appreciate a courtesy swipe, you would have thought that I asked for her first born! Listen, if you dont give free swipes, then dont give them. But I KNOW that you do, so just do it! I dont need to be punished for it! I must say that on the weekends, there is a tall gentleman walking around. I am assuming that he is some regional manager/GM guy and he is just the MOSTPLEASANT person in the world. He helps out all over the store and I will go out of my way to get into his line rather than deal with the crabby ladies whos nametags say that they have been working there 20 plus years!
