I’ve been thinking about stopping here for an eternity — anyplace with a sign out front like theirs deserves a visit! Finally stopped in to check it out and overall, it was pretty good. First off — the service was friendly and pretty fast. My server asked if I wanted to see a newspaper in addition to promptly taking, placing and delivering my order. The other servers working there all seemed to have a great attitude — to me that’s especially important at breakfast time — nobody wants their day to start with a crabby waitress! For breakfast, I ordered an Irish Skillet — mainly because I was in the mood for Corn Beef Hash. Theirs is canned — which is OK, that’s the norm for most restaurants. Overall, the food was pretty good and a reasonable portion for a reasonable price. But speaking of prices, while most of their offerings were fairly priced, two things that stood out were the $ 4.50 fresh squeezed OJ(I had some at another place last week for 2/3’s the price) and the dollar markup for getting an English Muffin instead of toast or pancakes with my breakfast. My issue with that is that the differential in price on the menu is LESS than a dollar. Plus I think it’s the first place I’ve been in that does add a premium for an English Muffin. Granted, they do cost more than toast, but most restaurants don’t add a surcharge anyway. Nonetheless, for the most part I enjoyed my meal there and will go back.

Good basic diner food. I got the eggs with bacon. Also came with hashbrowns and upgraded the pancakes to include bananas, strawberries and pecans. Eggs and bacon were basic. They were prepared well. Hashbrowns were ok, I would prefer them a little more golden but they were still tasty. I enjoyed the pancakes. They were nice and fluffy. I also liked that it was served with plenty of fresh fruit toppings and I thought the nuts were a nice touch. Service was very good and seating was nice and well spaced. Did not feel cramped at all. Overall if you are in the neighborhood this is a great spot to grab breakfast.

I only came one time and tried one thing and it was life alteringly good: a giant pile of french toast stuffed with cream cheese topped with strawberries, bananas, and coconut. Shout it from the rooftops hallelujah.

Lovely experience overall! My husband and I stopped in around 11 am on a Sunday. We were seated promptly and I noticed immediately how cute yet spacious it is inside. My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy which came with hash browns– b&g were delicious, hash browns were bland. I went for the BLT club which came with soup and fries. The sandwich and soup were quite yummy, and the fries were cooked well but also bland like the hash browns. The menu is large and has options to fit any diner. I’m sure we will return next time we are in the neighborhood!

I’ve been driving past this place for the 3 months. Gotta admit it was the sign from the 20’s that had me captivated. The interior is modern and updated, I was wishing for a classic diner feel. My girlfriend and I stopped for breakfast. Big portions at a good price. Both of us ate for $ 24. I had 3 eggs, 2 slices of crispy bacon(uh-huh), 2 sausage links and 2 slices of French toast. Served hot and tasty. My girlfriend had the ham off the bone and cheese omelette and said it was 5 stars good. Hers was served with hashbrowns and toast. Exceptional service and extremely friendly staff. I’ll be back for sure.

I was grossed out by how they make orange juice. They throw the whole orange, peel and all, right from the box from the fruit distributor, into the juicer. Ugh!!! anything could be on the peels, and their hands, and probably is.

It was good. 2 of us thought it was great; 1(myself) thought it was ok. I don’t like my omelettes runny on the inside, which they were. Otherwise they were fine. Many choices in the menu. The pancakes and waffles were good; the reuben was fine. They forget to serve the kid’s milk alongside the meal. The hash browns were blah. The coffee was dishwater. We had to leave to buy coffee elsewhere afterwards. Big group of cops were eating here, which was I guess a vote of confidence.

AMBIANCE The diner that is a lot deeper and bigger than it appears… with cute 1950s vibe… maybe the signage… excellent service and very friendly. FOOD Good omelets… but not amazing. Standard brunch fare… had coffee(tasted a bit burnt, okay with extra sweetner) Fiesta omelet minus chorizo with sides of hash browns and toast. GREAT prices I must say… I think mine was $ 16 with tax and tip… I like DT Des Plaines. :-)

I have been going to Sugar Bowl for about 3 years now since we live only a couple blocks away. Pros: It’s a pretty decent place with a typical breakfast menu. I particularly like the skillets and their $ 5 weekday menu. They have TVs if you’re into that sort of thing(although personally I find it annoying). Cons: The service… especially when it’s busy the waitresses tend to become very rude and take a long time to take the order. I usually have to ask several times to get a refill or if we want to order something else, or just want the check. Overall: It’s usually reliable, but by no means the best breakfast place in the area. Going to Le Peep in Mt Prospect or especially Egg Harbor in Arlington Heights is definitely worth the drive if you have 15 mins to spare.

Had breakfast here this morning. I was not too impressed with the food I ordered. The service was alright, the hash browns, toast, coffee were great but the veggie omelet I ordered had some bad avocado in it, made me lose my appetite. However, my friend ordered pancakes with FRESH Strawberries/Blueberries on it, and THAT impressed me. Looked & tasted delicious. I recommend the pancakes/french toast, but not so much the omelete’s.

Atmosphere 5/5, service 5/5, food 4⁄5 because while it was good, it was not the best I had. There was a blandness to some of the food items. But overall good, a good setting for small groups. Will chime again and try different items.

This place is amazing. The menu is huge and they have a lot of decadent options for those of us who prefer sweet to savory breakfast(don’t worry, there are plenty of savory options as well). The service is prompt and the food is delicious. It may be a small gripe, but my one complaint was the temperature in the restaurant. Bring a sweater. Brrr!

There is a large menu to choose from. There is everything from breakfast to lunch to dinner. One of the owners named Stacy is no longer there, but the restaurant started with her and George. Stacy had been there when the restaurant had a separate section that sold all kinds of candies. That is how The Sugar Bowl got its name. I met all three owners. Chris is nice as well. He packed extra soup for me one time free of charge. I also like George. George has waited on me himself. He talked me into a special which was really good. The Sugar Bowl has atmosphere. It has music as well as a television set to watch the news. I have walked in on a Sunday and the restaurant was packed. I had to wait for seating, but, it was well worth it. The restaurant has comfortable seating you can sit down and wait to get serviced. If you have a service or product to sell, they will accept your flyers and cards. The only thing I have to say is that the portions are so big and you can not obtain half portions if you want them. But, you don’t go away starving. I recommend you come hungry or just order a bowl of soup!

Amazing breakfast place. Wonderfully tasting Pancakes. We eat here often and the only thing better than the food is the service. Smiling friendly people throughout.

Highly recommending this place. We ordered the Popeyes crepes(spinach and egg with hollandaise), a Monte Cristo, and the Sugarbowl waffle(pecans, vanilla ice cream, topped with cinnamon and honey). The meals came with chicken dumpling and cream of broccoli soup. Our order came at the perfect temperature and all of it was delicious. The only negative: the hollandaise was«broken»(didn’t stop us from devouring the meal)! The positives: clean restaurant, friendly staff(even topped off my leftover soup), free wifi, easy/free parking in the garage, good honest food, and THEYPUTSPRINKLESONTHEHOTCOCOA. In case you missed that… they put SPRINKLES on the HOTCOCOA.

This place was packed Sunday brunch. In the heart of downtown Des Plaines, & accross the street from the Metra, can’t miss it. Was nothing special. Price range for this place should really be updated. A cup of orange juice was $ 4.50. . service was quick but not attentive, the bus boy did a better job of asking if we needed anything when he brought us water vs the waitress when she brought the food. I had a Canadian Benedict, I was super hungry when I arrived but food & flavor was pretty short. Hash browns were dry, and no seasoning,(how dare they)! Maybe this place is a step up from retirement home meals . My brother and I ate for$ 30. Parents had coffee, total was $ 38. My suggestion would be going down the road east to the Des Plaines restaurant/pancake house. Ten more dollars will feed two more.

One of the best breakfast places ever! Prices are decent and the quality of the food is superb! I’ve tried a number of things but the best thing on their menu to me was their blintz. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Portions are huge, friendly staff, DELICIOUS food, plenty of parking… I could go on and on but I’m getting hungry just talking about this place. :D
