Been here for breakfast and several times for lunch and it’s good. Service is a little slow and it’s hard to get back to work on time. I’ve heard their dinner is great and it’s byob. Looking forward to trying dinner and not worrying about time.

Move over all you wannabes — Sunrise Grill has won itself the prized award(according to me, myself and I) of being the best little diner in the general area. Sunrise Grill has definitely maintained the quintessential feel of a diner, but it’s also moved right along with the times by being a BYOB and excelling at the beautifully prepared meals they do offer. You want a diner with the feel of some fine dining? Well, you’re in luck — you don’t have to look any further than the Sunrise Grill located, ironically enough, in a strip mall… it seems that some of the best restaurants are located in unnoticeable strip malls alongside the road. This quaint little restaurant fits in with that philosophy ever so perfectly. Having known that Sunrise Grill was a BYOB we came adequately prepared with a 6 pack in hand; unlike many other BYOB restaurants Sunrise Grill did not charge for a corking fee and they were kind enough to bring some glasses to the table so that we could pour our beer in there. Because my fiancé and I were so focused on pouring that beer and talking through the events of our day we weren’t all that quick about ordering our food so I must say that our waitress was also kind and patient enough to do with that, especially since we’d gotten there only about a half an hour before close. With that being said, we finally decided on the chicken nachos for an appetizer, the chicken vesuvio with beef barley soup for myself and the chicken parmesan and chicken noodle soup for my partner in crime. All of the food that we had was awesomely prepared, brought out in a timely manner and it was all, of course, delicious. Sure, these entrees were not anything too modern or fancy but they were hearty and excellently prepared — the chicken was as tender as could be. We also were able to get the flan for free because of the check-in offer and that flan was done right. I’d have had a couple more if I could have — it was superbly sweet. I’d love to go to Sunrise Grill for breakfast as all of that food looks quite good too, but it’s definitely a relaxed restaurant to eat at when you want delicious food but don’t want all the fuss with going out and making reservations, so on and so forth. It’s also a fairly quiet place to enjoy dinner and have a conversation — I’m sure that it’s not as quiet earlier in the day, but at night it’s definitely a calmer atmosphere. Another considerably great thing about Sunrise Grill is that for a dinner for two it’s only about $ 40 — and that is for very well prepared food that would easily cost close to two times the amount in the city at a restaurant that’s more«up-scale». Sometimes it’s definitely worth surpassing those up-scale joints to give support to a hidden gem of a restaurant; you may be trading luxury for comfort but that’s quite alright. Sunrise Grill is waiting for you to come in!

Arrived at 6:30 with 3 kids and dinner took 2 hours. Would have possibly been worth it if the food had been good. Meh at best. Steak sandwich basically inedible, mentioned to waitress who did not respond. Have had breakfast there that was fine but how can you ruin breakfast? Plenty of great BYOBs out there — we’ve checked this box and will not return.

I first discovered this restaurant on Groupon about a month ago. And since then, I have been back several times to introduce my friends and family to it. Not only has the service been great each time, but the food has been incredible! I have not been disappointed with any of the items that I have tried, and I have tried a variety of their items. I’ve been there for both breakfast and dinner. Both menus have a great variety of delicious options!

Classic Greek diner food served fast and hot. The variety of the menu was great, and the quality and taste quite solid. They sat a large group of us without delay, even though it meant opening the second room, but they did not forget us back there, and it started to fill up as we ate.

Delicious breakfast. Had ranchero nest. Scrumptious — guacamole, salsa and sour cream on top. Perfectly prepared hash browns. Hubby had chef’s citrus corn flake French toast.(He excluded the grapefruit) he said it was great. He is a food snob too. We would return.

Got the groupon, and went across town and was not disappointed! Excellent tilapia and stuffed peppers and reasonably priced. Nice place to bring my mom, and byob!

Good food, fast friendly service. Coffee was plentiful, pancakes fluffy, eggs cooked just to order. A great breakfast stop on the way to O’Hare.

My hometown is Des Plaines and I always go to this restaurant with my dad when i’m in town. The food is delicious and low-priced. I usually get a salad and a tuna sandwich but they have great cobb salads as well. I would call myself a casual-regular :)

Been here twice now. Once for lunch the other for breakfast. Lunch was better than breakfast which is surprising considering the name of the restaurant. First with lunch. We walked in and placed a to-go order, nothing outrageous a couple of gyro’s, a chicken sandwich, fries and chips. Food was really good but why did it take us 25 minutes to receive our order ??? While standing there for 10 minutes after ordering my father-in-law went to the car, a few minutes after that I heard the waitress finally put the order in. ??? Why ??? It makes no sense. And that’s the same issue I had with breakfast. For breakfast I went in and grabbed a booth. Went over the menu which I must say was disappointing with the limited options for what I’m thinking is a breakfast place. Ordered something simple, corned-beef hash skillet with pancakes and coffee. Coffee cups were about the size of some 3 year old girls tea set, the skillet wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either the corned-beef was definitely not homemade(the menu never claimed it was) but canned. Eggs were done perfectly as were the pancakes, but again took over 25 minutes to receive my order which would have been understandable if this place was busy … it wasn’t, 3 people at the counter and two others in booths. My coffee cup was constantly empty because my waitress spent all her time talking to the people at the counter and at one point sat down with someone at a booth for 10 minutes. Was she folding place-settings and such … no … just gabbing and looked to me as if I was being rude and interrupting when I asked for more coffee but was extremely courteous and smiling when I was presented the bill, as I was when I left her a $ 1 tip. Overall the food there is descent enough for another try. Placing a to-go order, call ahead. Dining-in, bring a newspaper or a book. 3 stars for food. 0 for the wait staff.

I absolutely love this place! I have never ever had a bad experience from this place. The waitress Stephanie is awesome. And not just because we share the same name. She is funny and is always willing to go above and beyond. The corned beef hash skillet is the best as well as the Mexican skillet. Good coffee and great service. You honestly can’t beat it! Be careful as the place is normally packed on Saturday and Sunday mornings! Great place to get the perfect hangover cure!

Within the last 6 months I attended an event in the little hall off the restaurant. The food was excellent, so I decided to bring my parents for a late lunch. The service was not good. The food was just ok. I was embarrassed that the experience was so sub par because I had told my parents how good the food was at the event. Too bad…

Awesome dinner for a great price! Everything that we ate was awesome. Short rib special was cooked to perfection. Service was great too. Gourmet food in a casual environment. Only downside is we didn’t find this place sooner! Strip mall definitely throws you off!

OK, SO, I would like to preface this review with the fact that I can only rate the food and employees, as I ordered food to go(so I can’t rate the cleanliness, though it looked clean, or the dining room service); I also had a coupon, which made this a phenomenal deal. I’ll start with the bad: there was a bay leaf in my soup.(I know this isn’t actually bad.) Now the good: I ordered a side salad, which was huge, for a side salad. There was romaine and red leaf lettuce in it, no iceberg(freakin’ awesome, I HATE iceberg). There were also sweet onion pieces, cucumber dices, and tomato dices. It was exceptional for a side salad. I also ordered the green avocado wrap, with a side of soup(instead of chips or fries), totally expecting to taste the soup and either toss it or save it for later. The wrap has pesto on it, and avocado, which don’t seem like they would be great together, but they do. There was the perfect amount of each on the wrap. You could taste everything, and it was delicious. The wrap also had deli turkey, sliced tomatoes and more red leaf lettuce. It also came with a pickle spear and coleslaw; the pickle spear was good, it didn’t taste commercial, and the coleslaw was good as well, it was creamy, sweet and tangy. Good job with all that. Finally, I had the navy bean soup. It. Was. Delicious. It was definitely homemade, it had chunks of ham in it, the vegetables were irregularly cut, and it was hot. Some of the best soup I have had in a long time. Needless to say, I ate the whole bowl… This is how restaurants should be. Everything was fresh and of good quality. They do the things in their restaurant that you see on TV. When someone calls Gordon Ramsay to save their restaurant, he tells them you have to use fresh ingredients when possible, and you have to make food fresh. Great job owner/chef/cook/manager. On to service. When I walked in, the place was about half full, and one of the waitresses said sit anywhere you want. I told her I wanted to order to go, and she said«OK, gimmie a minute, I’ll grab a menu for you.» She did. Then the woman behind the counter asked if I was ready to order, and took my order, and told me it would be 5 minutes. She was right. They were both very nice. The woman who gave me my food actually gave me a full cup of iced tea and another of ice, so I would get more tea. Seriously? Super thoughtful. I will be back. This place has everything I look for in a restaurant: good ingredients, good food, reasonable prices, and homemade stuff.

My wife and I were looking for a place to eat in Des Plaines as we were in the area. I found an offer for the Sunrise Grill on Groupon for $ 30 for $ 15. Unilocal rates it 4 stars so we thought we would give it a try. The Sunset Grill is in a strip mall. The interior is a little cheesy & dated. The service was a little slow, but we were finally able to order. The food prices are not too expensive & decent size portions. The waitress was pleasant enough with a good personality and sense of humor. She started with garlic bread that was very good w/butter, fresh garlic, herbs & Parmesan cheese. We scarfed that down very quickly and waited for the waitresses return. When she came back we ordered & asked for more garlic bread. I ordered the skirt steak in a reduced wine sauce(nice presentation) This came with mashed potatoes, yellow & purple cauliflower, split pea soup & a piece of dill for garnish. The soup was tasty, but a bit too salty. The cauliflower & mashed potatoes were nothing noteworthy but tasted good. The main course was the skirt steak w/a wine reduction sauce. It was pretty good, but once again a little too salty. Overall I would rate this 3 ½ stars, a little better then average. My wife ordered the gyros plate which came with split pea soup, gyro meat, pita bread and a cucumber, tomato & onion salad. The gyro meat was pretty good. I’ve had worse and I’ve had better. Once again 3 ½ stars For desert we split a flan courtesy of Unilocal(Thanks Unilocal) Overall I would rate Sunrise Café 3 ½ stars

A decent breakfast place with easy and open pull-in parking for their strip mall location. They also have a pleasant, sunny, and airy dining room. I’d say more like 3.5 stars overall. We tried their Farmer’s Garden omelette and their Baby Girl french toast(with granola and fruit chunks). The potato hash in the omelette could have been browned a little more for more flavor, but otherwise it was plenty fine.

My mate and I took our first trip trip to Chicago and I Unilocaled breakfast places near me and this café showed up with decent reviews. Our waitress was definitely quirky but super sweet. I ordered the gyro breakfast skillet and my mate ordered a blt. Both were very flavorful and delicious. Coffee was great too. I recommend this place for sure. It would be awesome if they had juevos rancheros on their menu though! As a side note we asked our waitress about artichokes and she couldn’t recommend a good place to get some… but that’s okay. She was super sweet!

My wife and daughter and I stopped here for breakfast after we picked up our car at a nearby hotel. Our first thought was to head into the City but we were afraid there would be a long wait. We were seated right away here. My daughter had the crab Benedict which was very good. My wife had the berry crepes which had lots of fresh berries and were delicious. I had a hash skillet which was tasty. The skillet included two eggs and pancakes. Everything was hot and delicious. Both of the egg dishes were listed as including two eggs but they actually gave us each three. Service was a little slow and the coffee was weak, but this same food downtown would have cost 50% more. If you’re looking for breakfast near O’Hare this place can’t be beat

Planned a trip to visit grams in McHenry. Researched locations to have breakfast since we were going to arrive in the morning. Found this place online and saw nothing but good things about it. This place is fantastic! The people who work there are friendly to say the least and the food was great. We were a group of 6 plus a four year old and they had no problem seating us. Highly recommend the crepes, waffles, and the ranchero nest. To top it all off, the price is right.

Drove by this place a few times and thought that it might be worth a try for breakfast, so I took the plunge. Walked in around 8AM on a Monday morning and there was hardly anyone there — usually not a good sign. Sat down and a few minutes later, got a menu to look at. Thought I would try something that was unique to their menu, so I opted for the«Baby Girl’s Favorite Skillet» This comes with corn beef hash(canned variety), potatoes that resembled large hash browns, onions and cheddar cheese, topped by two eggs as you like them. Pleasant surprise — it was really tasty. My pitfalls were few, though should be mentioned. First, I ordered English muffins lightly toasted, but they weren’t. The waitress wasn’t paying much attention when I told her. Also, I ordered tomato juice — she poured what was left in a pitcher, then went to pour the rest from a can that had settled a little(I saw water come out of the can and into the glass she gave me). Then, she poured the«new tomato juice» into the same pitcher that the«old» juice was in — not really a good idea. But that said, this was still a good unsuspecting find. I’ll go back for lunch or the specials if I’m in the area.
