Steamed or boiled shellfish is a specialty here. I had the shrimp. You can choose plain steamed, Cajun spiced, or beer & mustard, then you can choose drawn butter or Cajun drawn butter for dipping. The shrimp were tasty, decent-sized, and well-prepared. I ordered the fried corn & hush puppies for sides, but many of the other sides looked appealing too– the cheesy grits, the roasted potatoes, and the collard greens. The hush puppies were outstanding, maybe the best I’ve ever had. They had bits of scallions inside & had amazing flavor. The fried corn was grilled & served on the cob covered with butter & Parmesan cheese. I would be tempted to order all the same things again, but there looks to be other things I’d want to try. Overall, I found the place a little overpriced. But the food was of very good quality. The décor is clean, and it is family friendly. I included a photo. Also, I ordered the mussels first, but I was told they were out.

Stopped in with some locals who hadn’t been here yet and we were all very happy! Service hit a snag as we got left waiting for quite awhile after we were seated but it was corrected and the food quality made up for it! The bacon jam on my Oysters was in the top 5 of the best things I’ve ever eaten! My shrimp and grits were phenomenal! The other 4 people with me were all impressed with their meals down to the burger! Well worth the trip!

Was a good experience and had a nice view. The loaded fries were great. Food was better than good but not great. Staff was nice. I would go back.

Great restaurant! Love the build your own boil. I got snow crab and mussels. Crab was great! However, I wasn’t too fond of the mussels. I think they would have been better if there were some kind of sauce. My husband got fish tacos and said they were the best he’s ever tasted. Great atmosphere and great food. Highly recommend.

We were in Destin for a couple days for a fishing trip. Some family and friends joined us also. They wanted some seafood since they came from Illinois. Soo we went across the street from our hotel to Brotulas. I’m not a tall person 4’11″ ok. The waitress went to seat us at a table that I would need a step ladder to get on the chair. Soo I asked to sit at a regular table… No problem. We get put at a table under an a/c vent. It drips on me the whole time. I asked them to wipe it and they did but it still dripped. We ordered and the food took a while to come(they weren’t real busy). I had fried shrimp with fries. So did my husband. Our friends had the shrimp scampi. Their portions looked like they were from the kids menu! They put our shrimp over the top of our fries which made them double greasy! We asked the waitress if a lot of locals came there and she said no. Figures. Needless to say food was greasy and very small portion and slow service on a slow night. Next time we’re in town we won’t be going here.

We went to Brotula’s on our last night in Destin. Nice atmosphere overlooking the beach. Our waiter was super friendly. It was slow but we were on vacation and did not want to be rushed so this was perfectly fine with us. I asked the waiter if they could accommodate vegan food. He spoke to the chef and brought me out a grilled veggie kabob served on jasmine rice! I also ordered the pretzel bites off their appetizer menu. Very pleased with the service and the food here.

We went out fishing and wanted to walk our fish to a harbor restaurant for a hook and cook experience. I pointed out Brotula’s to our boats mate from the harbor and he said, «That we couldn’t of picked a better place.» He suggested we walk in and let the chef take the lead. And so we did. We handed over a bag of Mahi, a bag of Mackerel, ordered some drinks, watched the fireworks(9pm), and then it arrived. It, our food, was the most beautiful site, like a mountain of freshness. They blackened some fish, fried some fish, and slopped it over grits, hush puppies, asparagus, mashed potatoes, drizzled with sauce. It was amazing. I’m not sure how much fish we brought in, but it was enough for 10 meals and we paid around $ 120 for the food. While that might seem a little expensive considering the fact that we supplied the meat, it was worth it. It was the perfect way to cap off a day of fishing and to truly enjoy the fruits of our labor.

This place is awesome! Live music, good food, outdoor seating near pier! They can even tell you where your fish was caught! Also Summer is an excellent waitress

For an establishment that has $ 30+ entrees, you wouldn’t think they got their waitstaff from Waffle House from across the street. Honestly, I feel like I get better service at Waffle House. We ordered alcoholic beverages and she didn’t think to give each of us waters… not even to start with. We had to ask for water when we were halfway done our food. There were guys walking all around with seafood platters, not knowing where they were going. I slipped on my way out because one of the guys holding the seafood platters spilled the container of melted butter about 20 minutes prior. Also, our waitress asked how we wanted our bill — it was me, my mom, and my dad… what??? The food deserves 4 stars. The waitstaff 1. We got the grouper, the chef special, and chicken(kind of tough).

Really a huge disappointment! Fish tacos had very little fish in them. Should be called Cole slaw tacos! Boiled shrimp were a good size but had to season them myself at the table. 2 sides for $ 6.95, corn was great but one half piece and cheese grits had no taste at all! On a bright note, waitress was excellent! Gave feedback to GM and she should have comped some of the meal but didn’t. So she will not get another chance to earn my business! :(

Unbelievable service, incredible food, beautiful view. You can’t say anything bad about this place. The owners came by to check on us, the waiter came by frequently and the fish was so Fresh!

Mother and I recently visited Destin for the first time! We were really excited to go and have heard great things! Of course I took to Unilocal to help us find the places that we really must go and others that we could miss, it was a weekend trip after all. This was the one place that I actually did not look up prior to going, we were attempting to go to a tiny oyster bar near by but it was way too crowded and not exactly my moms scene so we walked around and found this spot! The food was great and the service was excellent! We tried a bit of everything and it did not disappoint! My mom loved it and we thought it was worth the price. We sat on the covered desk and we saw the sun set, very pretty! She loves that stuff! I get the vibe that it is not really a truly local place but we still loved it! yayay!

Brotula’s is located in a building that used to be called Fisherman’s Wharf. It has been extensively renovated and the result is a pleasant ambiance for a restaurant overlooking the Destin Harbor. One of the additions is a roof that allows outdoor dining wth plenty of shade. It would be too cold during winter months but for most of the year, that will provide a pleasant option for those who like to eat outside and watch the boat traffic and pedestrians strolling along the harbor. I opted for the Royal Red shrimp. That will not be the best choice for many who do not like tearing a large head off of a shrimp and removing the shells and the legs before getting down to the shrimp meat. A pound of Royal Reds probably amounts to less than half a pound of shrimp. The shrimp was cooked well and tasty. I would honestly prefer boiled or steamed shrimp without all of the mess(see photo of the end result) but no complaints. It was accompanied by fried corn. It was also messy but very flavorful with butter and garlic. By the time we finished the shrimp and the corn, the cloth napkin was a culinary disaster. My dining companion opted for the crab claws – a dish that is often out of stock in many restaurants. Also very tasty but the breading was thick so more bread taste than crab taste. There is a wine list of a few wines by the glass or bottle. Extensive menu of steamed seafood which is a good option. We ate there at an off time, about 2:30PM during a time when the number of visitors is down just before the start of the summer season. No doubt, Brotula’s gets very crowded when the crowds descend on the beautiful beaches. Looking forward to trying Brotula’s again for a more extensive meal with fish, oysters or mussels included. Try it for the ambiance, the view and the seafood selections. A very good addition to restaurants in the Destin area.

They are located on the water where fishing tours leave. It provides a nice setting for a stroll before or after dinner. When we arrived the hostess said the wait was 45 minutes. After an hour we checked back and she told us the system was down so they couldn’t determine our place in line. They seated us but it took another 15 minutes to take our drink order. Seeing the unhappy faces from the long wait for their food at other tables, we ordered drinks/app/dinner at the same time. The drinks and apps came quickly but the water never did. The pretzels were greasy but good and the fried pickles were very good. An entrée was delivered but the remaining boiled entrees took another 20 minutes. It took over 2 hours and 20 minutes to get our dinner on the table. Several tables complained of similar issues and one table walked out. Okay food but not worth the poor hostess and kitchen issues!!!

We had a really nice dinner overlooking the harbor and marine life. I had the fresh catch red snapper captains choice, daughter had Cajun boil crab and her best friend had the fried chicken. All of these items were great. We almost didn’t come after reading some negative reviews but… We decided to come anyway despite those Nancy’s and we are really glad we did.

Brotula’s was a real treat. We ate SO much great food that I thought we were both going to explode! Everything was delicious! To start we had the Sautéed Mussels — white wine, garlic butter, tomato and garlic bread. I could just drink the broth! We got a few things to share for entrees. First was the Conecuh and Potato Crusted Snapper over smoked cheddar grits and topped with a creole mustard sauce. All of Brotula’s fish comes with a trace code so you can track your fish. We also got an order of the Buttermilk Fried Chicken — it is the chef’s grandmother’s recipe. It was ridiculously good. Some of the best I’ve eaten. The mac and cheese was also super delicious! Finally we got some Crab Legs in a cajun boil. Southern Poutine Fries — fries topped with bbq gravy, pulled pork, fried cheese, shredded cheese and green onions. I could have made a meal out of this! Crazy good! Since we didn’t eat enough, we finished the night off with a slice of Key Lime Pie. It was topped with some white chocolate whipped cream. Crazy good!

I really wanted to be in love with this restaurant. Their food is beautiful, creative and I might stalk them on FB. I was so excited to try it while on vacation a few weeks ago. First, about the food. We ordered fried pickles and crab dip as appetizers. The fried pickles were pretty good — needed to be fried just a few minutes longer. The crab dip was labeled as a «signature dish». It was disappointing. A teeny bit of crab and a whole lot of Velveeta taste. I got a cup of clam chowder — at first, I really liked it but then the seasoning and soggy bacon got to be overwhelming. Keep in mind, the presentation, on all the dishes was beautiful. Entrees ordered — cheeseburger, shrimp po’boy, shrimp tacos, fish tacos and hush puppies. My husband and I received the wrong food — shrimp tacos. He ordered a shrimp po’boy and I ordered fish tacos. I always get fish tacos so I sent mine back. My husband kept his because he’s too nice. My fish tacos took FOREVER to come back out and when they did, they were missing 2 items(according to the menu) that they should have been topped with. I had to ask our server for them separately. The fish tacos were good but not the perfect fish taco.(too much cabbage and missing guacamole) Our server was nice though and gave us a piece of key lime pie for our troubles. My peeps loved it but I prefer tart key lime pie. It was fine but we won’t have to add Brotula’s to our«must eat» list while in Destin.
