The place looks extremely nice, but i cant say the same about the food. Seeing the prices, I expected high quality GOOD sushi. I was wrong. The avocado and rice were hard. The waiter made jokes that were not funny. I would not recommend to anyone.

What a strange experience. I was in the mood for some good vacation sushi, and trusted Unilocal to find me some. That happened, sort of. I had no idea that the sushi restaurant was like a joke of a sidecar act for the actual best restaurant in town. I am assuming that this business listing is for both the Irish pub AND sushi joint. We did not eat at the Irish pub. Three Maki rolls all tasted fabulous. Service was very good. Atmosphere was sorely lacking. It was about 67 degrees in the dining area. The classic Japanese black and white movies were a cool touch though, it took my mind off of the unbroken chain of red color and frozen toes. We talked to the waiter about walking to a nice touristy place on the harbor for a fourth meal later that evening. He insisted that we leave our car parked exactly where it is, because we’d never find another parking spot, then insisted that we drive to a place that was 3 miles away and neither touristy, nor good. It was a little confusing, and ended our evening at the harbor prematurely and regretfully. This strange, awful noise behind the sushi bar just kept… happening. Was it a rice steamer? A dishwasher? ‘Fraud not. This was Far too loud, far too frequent, and far too sinister. This is clearly a nuclear reactor or uranaium centrifuge. Mr Miyagi is planning his revenge on America in a local irish sushi pub. And we must stop him before it is too late.

I don’t get the four star reviews. Here’s the 411 from this Californian. The place is clean and cute. Service was friendly but very slowwwwww. Seriously, there are only three small groups here and it took almost 30 minutes for four rolls. I thought to myself, «maybe they are loving shaping a glorious roll of perfectly cooked rice and expertly sliced fish.» Unfortunately, that was not the case. The roll was small and cut so thin that I couldn’t pick it up without it falling apart. The rice was dry and not well seasoned. The crab tasted oily. To make matters worse, there was mostly rice and not much else. Maybe I’m spoiled, but I did not enjoy my meal but it was food and it did the job. Otherwise, I would have given it just one star. Sorry

Sushi was great!!! Small place tucked in. Staff was great and very nice! I would recommend trying this place out!!! Hint: try it earlier in the late afternoon, the parking lot is small for all the restaurants in the strip.

Wonderful place for Sushi! The best sushi we’ve had in Dustin! In our party of 4, one did not want or like sushi… they gave her a menu to the Irish pub next store and let her order from there!

I’ve always skirted around raw fish sushi until here because I was never sure of the freshness of the fish. I was amazed at the sweet and fresh flesh of the raw yellowtail here. It was down right amazing and looking forward to trying more authentic sushi rolls in the future here. Plus the service was amazing!

This is the easiest review I’ve ever written because that was the best sushi I’ve ever eaten. They make sushi and pour wine like a bunch of badasses over there. Definitely go.

Service was great! Sushi tasted fantastic! Only one problem — I was in the emergency room within an hour and was treated for scombroid food poisoning.(A very scary and expensive ordeal, of course.) I honestly thought I was having an allergic reaction, but the doctor said otherwise. He said this can happen when certain types of fish are mishandled. I’m still just shocked after reading so many wonderful reviews. I’ve yet to reach out to the restaurant directly, which I’ll likely do now that I’m home from vacation and feeling better. It completely ruined the last day of my family’s Spring Break, and quite frankly, I think they should have to pay the medical portion. That’s fair, right?

I’ve been to many sushi bars, but I can say without a doubt that this is the finest one I have ever been to. The rolls are all outstanding. We tried five in our visit and ate every bite. Everyone agreed, it was the best we’ve ever tasted. The miso soup is also delicious! A staple, in my opinion to a good sushi bar. I also have to comment on the service. Again, the best I have ever recieved. Attentive, pleasant, and knowledgeable. Very rarely do I believe an establishment deserves a full five stars. But this one truly does. Do yourself a favor and eat here. I guarantee you will not be dissapointed.

My husband and I are big sushi eaters, and as locals we have eaten at just about every sushi place in Ft Walton and Destin. This place, BYFAR, is the best sushi we have ever had! The Louisiana Roll and Lava Roll(not on the menu yet, but available — so PLEASE do yourself a favor and ask for it!) and The Godzilla Roll(on the menu) were the two best things I’ve ever put in my mouth! The menu is small, and the place is owned by an Irish Pub, so we were reluctant to try it, but I’ll never go anywhere else for sushi ever again! The sashimi is extremely high quality! The coconut lemongrass sake is incredible too.

This place is amazing. As parents of two young children with picky tastes in food, it is difficult to go to sushi. McGuire’s is great because they use the same kids menu as next door(the main McGuire’s). So the kids can order from the traditional menu(nuggets, mac/cheese, corn dog, etc.) and you get sushi. Can’t beat that. The staff and the food make the experience worthwhile. You just feel at home with the laid back(but professional) service. We ordered three items off the menu. The Rock and Roll, the Louisiana, and the Saigon. All three were delicious. The Louisiana was a warm/cooked roll with a hint of bayou seasoning, which didn’t taste like traditional sushi, but dang it was good. The other two were just amazing.

Absolutely delicious! We have been stationed in this area for over a year. We’ve tried several sushi places from Fort Walton all the way up to Crestview. Most sushi places in this area are pure crap(small rolls with bad fish or skimpy cuts of fish). Mcguires sushi is legit. Mr. Miyagi and Hiro made us their specialties and we were so happy we trusted their skills. The fish is fresh and in good size portions. The rolls themselves are great size and the presentation is very nice. I love leaving a new restaurant full and happy, and this place did exactly that.

One of the best sushi restaurants I’ve ever been to! Be adventurous and have the chef, Mr Miagi, make his special rolls! You won’t be sorry! We started with 6 rolls, asked for two more and we ate every last bite!!!

Great selection of sushi and rolls. Every roll I’ve tried has been delicious. You must order the Louisiana roll. The BEST roll I have ever tasted. All the ingrediants are fresh and Mr Myagi(chef) will only make this if the restaurant is not busy due to the extra prep time. Worth the wait. Best rolls in Destin area.

Excellent Everything! Wonderful quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Very helpful friendly staff and the sushi is fresh and delicious!!! Mr Miyagi was delightful and took great pride in his sushi creation. Anthony went out of his way to get me a refreshing root beer from the McGuires Pub and Hirosan laughed smiled and conversed the entire time I was at the bar. Seriously good food and fabulous Red décor. Try it!

Destin’s best kept secret is now out! On our recent excursion to the Emerald Coast, we found our new favorite sushi house right in Destin — less than 6 miles from where we were staying. When most peeps hear the name McGuire’s in Destin, most think of a drinking hole, bar, and/or Irish Pub. Soon enough, McGuire’s will be known for their sushi. LOCATION&PARKING4⁄5 Located right off the main drag(Harbor Blvd, 98) going into Destin, one can’t miss it w all the green lights from the nearby Irish Pub. Parking can be a nightmare. However, w some patience and quick maneuvering, a spot can be scored. Might be tight in some areas if you don’t have the right skills. ;D Then again, there are spots in the back to consider. ATMOSPHERE&AMBIANCE5⁄5 This new gem shouts out sushi house! They’ve been open since July 3, 2015. Lots of red and Japanese style décor w a beachy yet modern feel to it, while the drinks and saki variety adorn the wall behind the sushi bar. It was cool & quaint. Thankfully, there were tables available for us. Though I can see how this place will soon be jam-pack full of people as the word gets out. SERVICE5⁄5 Upon entering, we were welcomed by Mr. Miyagi himself as well as the other staff. It was kinda funny though when Mr. Miyagi continued on and said, «Long time no see. Nice to see you again!» We chuckled and thought he might have mistaken us for someone else. Low and behold, we later realized he greeted everyone similarly which immediately prompted the same response — a smile and chuckle. Genuine nonetheless! Our server was Anthony. Aside from the sushi bar staff, Anthony seemed to be the only server for the whole restaurant. He was fast and efficient, patient as we took our time browsing the menu, kindly offered assistance and even recommendations when asked. I was amazed at how thorough he was in taking care of us and how genuinely friendly he remained throughout the night. He was consistent in this w all other patrons as well. I did observe one patron that night who appeared either somewhat intoxicated or extremely tired from a long work day, placed a to-go order at the sushi bar, and seemed unsatisfied. The sushi staff and the manager also took notice and immediately attended to him, but the patron insisted he speak w Anthony directly. Apparently, his complaint was that Anthony was too fast in dropping off his food and check to him. This patron was not totally rude in causing a scene but it was enough to catch my attention as well as others nearby. Always being aware of our surroundings and being cautious in case the situation spiraled, I continued to observe how quick Anthony was in taking responsibility(even though I thought he was just doing his job efficiently) and acknowledging the patrons concerns and apologizing. No excuses, just a genuine apology and acknowledgment. This resulted in the patron having a smile once again and possibly returning for future to-go orders. I was pleased in witnessing how this situation was handled, one that could have easily gone bad turn into a happy ending. Unfortunately, there aren’t many waiters/waitresses that have mastered this technique in the restaurant business. Many can learn from how Anthony resolved the situation w competence and ease here. Anywhooo, onto the good part… FOOD5⁄5 With so many good options to choose, we opted for the following delicious finds: McGuire Roll $ 13.99 Dragon Skin Roll $ 12.99 Ultimate Salmon Roll(w/o Fish Roe /Masago) $ 12.99 Presentation was gorgeous, but the taste and quality was by far top of the heap! Each were unique in their texture. Each slice was thick and full of flavors. Some were so thick I actually had to hand them off to hubby to devour. It ain’t the same if you have to bite off pieces or dissect them to the size your mouth would allow. If we were at home would be a different story. ;D Bahahaha. Anyways, each roll was very fresh and scrumptious. The McGuire Roll was served piping hot and crunchy. The eel, both inside and out, of the Dragon Skin Roll were also hot and delicious. It practically melted in my mouth w the right amount eel sauce. It was unanimous in that the Ultimate Salmon Roll was the big hit for the night. If you like Salmon, this is a must try! We ordered ours without the Masago which left me wondering if it would have made a difference in taste. Nevertheless, this was a Salmon roll unlike any other I’ve tasted. It was exquisite! The thinly sliced lemon wedge on each piece not only added to the presentation, it made each bite explode with flavors. Like another party in my mouth! ;P I wanted it to go on for days! The locals are blessed to have easy access to McGuire’s Sushi. VERDICT&RETURN5⁄5 And so it is, we anxiously look forward to our next trip out and expect to visit McGuire’s Sushi for our semi-annual fill on fresh deliciousness served here. We highly recommend y’alls check them out!
