My husband works in St. Rose and goes here for lunch occasionally, so I went with him one day. He often brings me some home, but I was happy to try it super fresh in-house. All of the rolls that we got were great. We had the Boston hand roll, Big Easy roll, Boudin roll, and a Volcano roll. We also got the jalapeño poppers with crab inside. I can’t wait to go back!

A lil pricy but good fresh food! Place could feel a lil more cozier kinda feels more like a café rather than a sushi place.

Go here all the time. Devil roll is my favorite. Makes your eyes water! Everything my family and I have had here has been great. Service is attentive. You can see the owner and his wife runnin tables. I live close so it’s a weekly thing for me.

I’m not a sushi person, but the combination hibachi noodles are delicious and you get a big serving.

Always delicious no matter what I’m getting. I usually either get there Destrehan rolls or KK rolls which both include snow crab. Today I got snow crab salad and it was great!!!

The ambience does not suit the menu. If your prepared for additional Japanese music, don’t to be, apparently Katy Perry loudly is a thing. The three girls at the entrance to greet and seat were more like cheerleaders than servers. The girl who ran our check had on shorts and tennis shoes. Food was decent.

I am a sushi nut, and this stuff barely counts. And do NOT get takeout. I have yet to have a correct order.

The prices are a little over rated and the service and atmosphere here is just ok. They have a roll called sea world that is very fresh and delish if you like raw sushi rolls. If you’re more a fan of cooked rolls and like spicy get the 911 rolls. It’s pretty much the reason I go back. I would steer away from the pineapple fried rice and stick with the sushi here. Until now they haven’t had any competition in the immediate area so it will be interesting to see how they do with a new sushi restaurant in town.

Taste of Tokyo is a bonafide Destrahan staple. Unless you live in the area, or know someone who does, you likely don’t even know the place exists. Well, wake up! Among the multitude of Japanese/sushi places in the region, this one should make it on the bucket list. Service — These guys are very experienced at handling a weekend dinner rush. Wait time is reasonable, and the attention received is decent. The only trouble may be parking, as it’s located in a strip mall. Food — The quality of sushi cuts is decent, and they occasionally get hold of the more«hard-core» stuff(e.g. Uni). My personal favorite is the Filet Mignon Roll. I’m a sucker for steak in all forms… Overall — The food is good and the owners genuinely care about their customers. Make the effort and give it a try if you are in the area.

If you’re willing to head outside of the city this is definitely the place to go! It’s some of the best sushi I’ve had in my entire life and certainly the best that I have had in the New Orleans metro area. First things that I always start my meal off with are the Shrimptini and the Cajun Tuna Sashimi. You’ll see both of these items going to pretty much every table when you’re there. My two favorite rolls are the Nikki Roll and the 911 Roll. The Nikki is one that you can eat by yourself and fill up; the 911 is a little smaller and you can probably get it with one other roll and be full. This is somewhere where you go and order a bunch of rolls to share as a table. I typically go for lunch; since I do work in the area. I’m not sure how crowded it gets at dinner but lunch is normally pretty full during the week. It’s definitely a very warm and welcoming place. The owner of the restaurant is always walking around talking to everyone and asking everyone how their meal is.

I found this local gem in the heart of Destrehan years ago when my parents moved here. The service is fast and friendly. My absolute favorite roll is the Todo Roll. It is white rice, cream cheese, and crab with fried shoe string potatoes making up the outside. It is drizzled with honey. My other favorites are the Destrehan roll and the Coco Roll. They do serve beer and wine.

While visiting a sick friend, I decided to take a field trip out to Destrehan in order to get us some sushi takeout. Taste of Tokyo makes takeout really easy; all you have to do is go on their website, fill out what you want, pay and go and get it! We decided to get a couple of rolls(I can’t remember the names, my bad), sushi, and salmon sashimi. All of the food was fresh and fantastic. I especially liked the salmon sashimi which was thick cut, which I always enjoy. Taste of Tokyo wasn’t the best sushi I’ve ever had, but they get their 5 starts for easy ordering, a quick pick up and good food.

This is honestly the best sushi around. Everything is so fresh and clean — I trusted it enough to eat raw while pregnant(pepper tuna sashimi, OMG). The only downside is that I’m now spoiled and can’t eat sushi anywhere else. Mikimoto, Little Tokyo, Sake Café(yuck) — all pale in comparison. Both the Destrehan(local for me) and Harahan locations are awesome. It’s a bit of an obsession now, and I’ve got to get my weekly«Taste of Tokyo fix.» I’ll sum it up and say it again: BESTSUSHIAROUND. Just go there. The food speaks for itself.

Taste of Tokyo is is the best kept secret in Destrehan. I became a fan of sushi just a few years ago so I’m still exploring the Sushi options across the greater New Orleans area and am quite pleased that one of the best around is practically in my backyard in the tiny town of Destrehan. I’ve yet to eat anything here that I didn’t like and the edamame here is my favorite I’ve ever had. The service is great and the staff very friendly. They are a bit pricier than some of the other sushi places I’ve frequented, but certainly worth an extra few dollars for the flavor, the ambience and service. Next time you’re out in the river parishes, stop in or ride out to the river parishes and try it out. If you’re a sushi fan, you won’t be disappointed!

Great sushi! The worst part of going there is trying to decide if to eat my usual(volcano roll) or have one of the other delicious rolls. The tuna is alway super fresh. If you go there, the shrimptini is a must have! Also I love that they have a Facebook page and post when they get new interesting things in. They posted that they had just gotten sea urchin one day so I went right over to try it! Super fresh and tasty. The owner is always around talking to his customers, shaking hands, cracking jokes and just enjoying himself. He isn’t afraid work though, I’ve seen him clear tables, clean messes, prepare sushi, deliver meals, etc. Great owner-Great place!!!

I think I set my expectations a little bit too high when I came to Taste of Tokyo for a business lunch. I love sushi, but the sushi I had here was a little disappointing. I appreciate the complimentary clear soup provided, and the chicken/shrimp-tini(stir-fried meat in a sweet sauce, served in a martini glass) was pretty addictive. However, that’s about it. I ordered the chirashi because, heck, Louisiana has solid seafood — unfortunately, it’s probably better for you to stick with cooked food and only raw oysters. My salmon tasted like it was lightly smoked, and the tuna was overwhelmingly fishy. I liked the whitefish the most, which is ironic since I prefer salmon or tuna to whitefish almost any day. The rice is alright(good texture but minimal flavor); thankfully, the furikake sprinkled on top save it from being bland. The floors are just sticky enough for you to notice, and service is brusque yet gets the job done — I never had to ask for a refill on my water. I think if I had ordered something else, I would’ve enjoyed my meal a lot more. My coworkers got the hibachi, which they enjoyed a lot. It actually looked pretty darn good, too! Stick with the classic Japanese hibachi, and you’ll probably enjoy your meal a lot more than I did.

If you get nothing else from this review, pay attention to the following, UPSIDEDOWNROLL, get one. This place stays busy, for good reason, the food is great. I order stuff to go often, although occasionally, I will dine in. I tend to go here on a night when I am fetching this or that for everyone else and I want something special for me. The edamame is so good, I have been known to eat an order of it on my way home. They seem to have a high server turnover, the last server I had, TJ was just awesome. The turnover does not seem to affect them, the food quality is stellar. I have never had anything of poor quality at Taste of Tokyo. My kids LOVE the Nikki Roll. I like the old standby California and I gotta say the Crunchy Dynamite and Devil Roll are some of the best. People say they are hot, but I don’t see it. The best thing on the menu is the Upsidedown Roll. GETONE! They get 4 stars instead of 5 because I do not like paying for each soft drink that my kids guzzle seperately. I prefer free refills.
