Went to Batch for the first time tonight, after Slow Roll. Great place! Love the set up & décor. Delicious brew & brats. One of the owners sat and chatted with us too. Cool dude with an awesome story. Love to see small local businesses thrive! Support local!

Came with 5 other ladies for a drink and lunch on a Saturday. We were all impressed with the beer, food, ambiance and service at Batch. We started with having a beer on the porch of the brewery. They have five or six tables available. The majority of us had the limited edition ginger beer. It was on the sweeter side, but had an amazing ginger taste and was very drinkable. Batch has a great variety of beers. Everything from lighter lagers to fruit flavored IPAs to heavy, dark stouts. After our beer, it was getting got and we decided to eat inside. The inside of the brewery is smaller, but with several long picnic style tables to sit at. Like other reviewers have said, you can peruse the menu and then you order your food and drinks at the cash register. They give you a number and you can sit and enjoy a variety of board games while you wait for your meal. For a brewery, I found the menu to be amazing. They have several amazing options. It was hard to pick something. The menu offers everything from appetizers to sandwiches, soup(gumbo), salads and desserts(the marscapone bread pudding with berries sounded amazing). Our party ended up ordering the pretzel appetizers, shrimp nachos, chicken nachos, veggie sandwich, ribeye sandwich, grilled shrimp po-boy and the smoked whitefish appetizer. My entrée was the smoked whitefish spread appetizers. It was amazing. I was told the fish was smoked on site. It was a very generous portion of spread with plenty of scallions, onions, fish, cheese and capers. The spread was served several pieces of grilled pita. A tad on the salty side, but it was a great entrée(I could only eat a little bit), but would make for a fantastic appetizer if you went with a group. I also had a few pieces of the pretzel. They were huge! Freshly made and very good. The pretzels came with both a cheese fondue sauce and a stone ground mustard type of sauce. I didn’t care for the cheese, but the mustard was outstanding! Everyone else really enjoyed their meals. The portions were huge and several of us got take out boxes. The brewery is in a nice area in Corktown with plenty of parking. I can’t wait to come back!

I finally made it around to Batch, and long story short, I was pretty impressed! Batch Brewing is located in Corktown, but it is a little off the beaten path that is Michigan Ave., you probably wouldn’t have found it just by driving by. In case you didn’t catch the pun, Batch is a Nanobrewery, brewing their own beer in small batches. Get it? Either way, I loved trying their experimental beers– they are trying things you aren’t going to find everywhere– interesting herbs, adding syrups, etc.). And chances are, the beers I tried won’t be on tap by the time you make it to Batch to try them– so I am not even going to bother to give a long-winded review of the each beer I tried. They were all pretty darned good, and the bartenders are willing to let you sample things if you’d prefer to try before you buy. Not that I need to end every review with a gripe(although I do think I sort of follow a formula), but to be perfectly honest, I am not a big fan of communal seating. The long tables and benches force you to try to shoe-horn yourself between other parties, and this type of seating isn’t skirt or dress-friendly, in my opinion. If you are socially awkward like me, and hate asking if this spot or that spot is free, there is also plenty of bar seating and tables and benches on the patio, and in an attached train car. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the food! The food is a weekly, rotating menu. The seasonal desserts I have seen look AMAZING(no, seriously, check out the photos here on Unilocal, check out their Facebook page, they look awesome).

My fiancé and I have been to around 90 Michigan breweries together and this one is by far our favorite. Luckily for us it’s very close to home so we are there quite often. From the people who work there(who we now consider our friends) to the beer to the food you cannot go wrong. We’ve been here many, many times and it’s never been a miss. Anytime someone asks which brewery they should try Batch is always my first recommendation. There is no pretension here; just perfectly crafted beer, delicious and creative food, & all around good vibes. Also, you have to try the bread pudding. I was never a bread pudding person until I had theirs– wow is all I can say. Cheers!

i enjoyed our visit very much. Not big on the serve yourself concept, but it works. I like the smaller portions which are packed with a lot of flavor and texture. The best is the incredible selection of beers. It will take a while to move through the board. That will be a trip to savor. Well done, the brew pub paradigm has shifted!!!

What a better way to prepare yourself for a direct flight back home than visiting a microbrewery in Detroit Michigan. Well maybe not. The fact is that Batch Brewing company has set the bar high in terms of brewing in a city with a deep passion for beer and it’s definitely not going unnoticed. So I went twice this weekend. I know I might be overdoing it but it’s totally worth it. Saturday I tried the Holy dask brewed right in this facility. It’s a Belgian beer with around 7.4% alcohol. My favorite of the bunch. There was also the Blood in, Orange out I believe it’s a witbier. 7.2% alcohol does the job. kind of feels like a stronger version of blue moon. My second choice. The Vienna lager at around 5.2% might be your choice if you preferred bitterness. Food was secondary this time. We only had the pretzel which was great but did not beat the pretzel from Pilsener House in Hoboken. At the end we met Stephen the owner. He’s really passionate about the business and he loves teaching about brewing. If you are in town for a tigers game, I would recommend to stop by and let the world go by.

Tried three different beers, all were very good with different unique flavors. The place is small with a great ambiance. The strawberry rhubarb bread pudding though, perfection! Definitely a must try.

I love this casual, community style bar. It’s a great place to try new beers, as they offer small tastings or regular sized served in a mason jar. They have a great selection of food, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that they could make a great shrimp poboy and chicken and sausage gumbo. They have a bunch of games to choose from, which is a fun throwback to your childhood and makes for a great way to spend time with friends without your phones. The parking is not bad either, despite the proximity to downtown. Cool find!

Yeah– their beer is all the rage. Yeah, it’s worth going. They serve in Mason Jars(which I found odd being that we were in Detroit) but their Little Dicky stout was great. Not too thin, but very smooth with a nice finish. I would recommend hitting this place up. Classic brewery ambience too: communal tables and an outdoor patio. Like every other review has mentioned: orders under $ 10 need cash. Plenty of street parking and a private lot.

You can’t beat a place with amazing beer and food network channel worthy food all at a cheap price. This is the kind of place that Detroit needs and the kind of place that wins out of towners over like myself. Highly recommend the gumbo and po boy combo with honestly any of their beers. Can’t go wrong.

Not bad. I dig the overall ambiance of this place. Nice outdoor deck to enjoy when the weather is favorable and a really cool railcar out front for décor. Also a nice selection of board games to enjoy while you sip on your beer. I tried a handful of their pale ales but was kind of underwhelmed with the overall hoppiness. Definitely more refreshing and smooth than anything else. I didn’t get a chance to try any food on my visit, but the food that the couple next to us ordered looked pretty good. Worth a stop if ya in the area, but bring cash if you only plan on ordering a beer or a couple samples as they do have a $ 10 minimum. ‘Til next time, cheers!

So first time ever but the buzz about it made the trip worth it. Communal tables, typical modern yet rustic décor, pretty dope box car out front though! It’s kind of in a weird location as there’s not much around beyond a church down the street and some housing. Stopped in on a Saturday evening for a night cap and found some seats amidst other beer drinkers and strangers. Had a good selection of beers on tap, black IPA, a beer called Dick Smasher… Felt like I was in the right place! So they don’t offer servers so you have to go up to the counter to order anything. Oh and there’s no flight carrier so each glass is on its own for you to carry. I ordered eight samples so good thing I had a date to help with the carry. I will say I ran the gamut of flavors from their stout to their more fruity beers and was quite happy. I also picked up this sweet trucker hat! Definitely will be back to try their food too as it looked pretty delicious. Their sandwiches looked pretty stacked from what others were smashing down. I will say, there is a certain ambiance you can get from some people there, even the guy I ordered from, seemed a bit pretentious. Like I wasn’t good enough or Detroit enough to be there. I drank my samples, supported the cause, and bounced. Was very impressed with the beer for sure and I can check this one of my list of definite places to visit in the«new» Detroit.

$ 10 credit card minimum. Not bad, not bad. Stumbled here after an afternoon nap and was pleasantly surprised. Very chill, very relaxed. People of all ages here. The beers are about $ 5⁄6 a pop, which is not greeeat for a brewery in Detroit, but not bad. You order food and drinks both at a counter. If you order beer, you instantly get it. if you order food, you get a number, corner-bakery style. There are board games and lots of communal tables. I spent about an hour here before moving on and am glad I got to experience Batch Brewing!

I have to say, I absolutely love Sours. So, this place is for me. I loved Anton’s Animals. So much so that I bought a bottle for home. It has a delicate raspberry flavor. Great for a beautiful spring day. Audacity was good too. It’s served with a lime. My favorite one was The Second to the Last Word. Sadly, they don’t bottle that one. Also, the pretzels are really good. Each order comes with 2. They’re crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Just perfect. The dipping sauces are good too. The ordering situation is a little different to me, but not a bad thing. I’m just used to being able to go to the bar or table service as opposed to standing in a line at at register. Great place, I’ll definitely go back!

Came in after the Tigers decided to get blown out and pretty quickly had a feeling that I’d been here before… but then I realized it’s just a common theme recently: communal seating with no waiting service. Want food or drink? Get in(what can be) a lengthy line and wait before sitting next to loud, drunken seating partners. Eghh. Alright, so the excusal of a waiting service is lazy to me at most places, but whatever. What cheesed me more than that was the girl behind the bar that just had a reasonably miserable tone… maybe most people wouldn’t care about it or even notice, but it bothered me a little bit. Okay so the food and beer: I got an 11.7% ABV wheat wine with a name I can’t remember, but it was good — like malty grape juice with an alcohol burn. Pretty tasty. For food, I got gumbo and the po’boy(see: picture). The gumbo was stupidly good. Perfectly seasoned with a hefty amount of spicy heat that I really appreciated. Also, lots of meat in it as well. I’d complain that the gumbo didn’t come with a piece of bread, but I had po’boy bread to deal with that. The po’boy was on the small side(4″? 6″?) and had about 4 decently sized, deveined, freshly fried shrimp. Excellent, and the combo wasn’t TOO expensive at $ 11, considering the quality… but, I wouldn’t consider it so much a meal as I would a big snack. Great food and very good beer, but I’m not sure I’ll ever care much for the whole«serve yourself» thing — that’s personal preference though. Overall, Batch is a really nice addition to Detroit.

–Fun, laid back place –Community style seating –Fun games provided –Great beer –Awesome menu Chicharrones had a good flavor, but some were soggy and not crispy. The pasty was really good, it came with some time of Au jus sauce. The ribeye bolillo was tasty too, but the blue cheese slaw was just a tad overpowering. And the dessert? Just get it, try it for yourself, and put some knee pads on because you’ll fall in love.

Delicious. You order your food and beer at the bar. Seating is either at the bar or tables that you have to share with others. I totally don’t mind the table scenario however it almost felt like it was Christmas time and I was stalking people at the mall to take their parking spot. Started with the pretzels, perfect to share. Came with two dipping sauces, one mustard the other a cheese fondue. We got the chicken nachos. Very fresh which is a nice change of pace compared to most places. The arancini was pretty good. Wasn’t my favorite dish of the night. Fish tacos were very good, however they didn’t tell you what type of fish it was on the menu. Market veggie sandwich was awesome. I would definitely get it again. Overall staff was friendly. Food and beer was great. Plenty of parking in the back. I will be back for sure.

I was in Detroit for work and went to Batch Brewing, after I was finished, for a late afternoon lunch. Batch Brewing appears to be a nano brewery, with a tap house and kitchen. It is tucked in a quiet residential part of Corktown, with a decently sized parking lot for a city location. This is a little easier to get to than the other dining spots in Corktown located along the hustle and flow of Michigan Avenue. The public space at Batch Brewing features large garage doors that were wide open on the warm November afternoon that I visited; opening up to a large patio seating area with tables. Inside I sat at the bar located next to the fermenters and mash tuns. One of the brewers was working busily cleaning, changing out the bucket from the blow-off tube on a fermenter, and brewing beer. It was nice to sit so close to the action and I could smell the delicious Belgian ale, fermenting and overflowing into the blow-off bucket. I liked the ability to watch the brewer working while sampling the offerings. I tried three offerings: Son Of A Batch(west coast IPA), Mimi Bobek(saison), and Fresh Cut(saison). Hands down, Fresh Cut, was my favorite. I love the soft, delicate flavor chamomile adds to a Belgian beer.(I’ve used it myself once when brewing a recipe by Sam Calagione). These beers are really well made. I would love to visit again and try more. I also ate the Corktown Cubano sandwich, which was a perfect pairing with the ale. It was nice and warm and toasted. It had the right balance of saltiness, from the pork and gruyère, to compliment the zesty mustard. I was pleased. I also did research on Batch after my visit. Batch Brewing was the winner of the Hatch Detroit award of $ 50,000 in 2013, which provided seed money for these homebrewers to start a nano-brewery in Detroit. Clearly they are the right path. And even cooler is the fact that a two percent(2%) portion of their sales on each pint go to a local charity. Drink easy knowing that you’re suds are going to a good cause! For all these reasons, but especially this last one, Batch Brewing earns an easy five star rating from me. This brewery should be a destination for any beer lover visiting Detroit.

4.5 stars is on the button for this joint. Finally got around to trying this place and it was as good as advertised. Unlike most of the new trendy places downtown, parking was a breeze. They have two private lots and plenty of street parking. Upon walking in, there is a sign setting forth the house rules where you learn about the communal seating style and the at-the-counter ordering system. I tried the pretzels, aracini, cuban and pork belly sandwich. The pretzels are top notch and highly addictive. My group ended up getting two orders. They are served with some sort of beer cheese and what I think to be Founders Centennial IPA mustard. The mustard is a perfect compliment to these delicious mothers. The aracini were will executed and are basically fancier versions of fried mac and cheese. The cuban was pretty, but a bit disappointing. The portion was way too small and I felt like the meat wasn’t evenly distributed, so I didn’t get all of the good stuff in one bite. However, the pork belly sandwich was spot on. The pork belly basically disintegrated in my mouth upon contact. Definitely the entrée of our evening. Finally the beer. I tried the IPA, Sweetums, Mimi Bobek. All of them were damn delicious. All reminded me of something else, but demonstrated a level of finesse that impressed the shit out of me. In short, if you like beer and food, this is definitely a place you must check out.

Had a great Friday after work experience with friends. Beer ranges from $ 5-$ 7, all of them unique and home-brewed. They offer up to 2 beer taste tests, and make their own homemade soda. Loved the Fresh Cut(7%). We sat in communal picnic tables outside, and they brought a water bowl for my friend’s dog. Food is good, and the service is excellent. Wasn’t too busy for a Friday evening, will definitely return!
