Canine To Five

My Boston terrors (yes, terrors) love Canine to Five, they get so excited when we pull up and can’t stop wiggling and squealing until they’re in the gates. The pack leaders are so nice and are not intimidated by their high energy and take good care of them.
The reasons I gave four stars and not five are as follows:
1. Price, having moved from Phoenix where day care is everywhere, it’s 50% more expensive than what we’re used to for boarding/​day. I understand market pricing and power to them for cornering the market, but just stings a bit.
2. Like kids at daycare, germs are everywhere. Every time we’ve boarded them here, one ends up at the vet for tummy trouble or a cough. They had never been sick before, it must be the quantity of dogs. Just save some money for vet bills after boarding.
Despite reasons 1 & 2, it’s worth it to have a tired, happy Boston Terrier after a long trip! I highly recommend Canine to Five.

Just beautiful! pleasantly surprised picking him up –He was happy and not overwhelmed when coming home. The activity was just as it should be– pleasant. !!!

My Matilda and Ralphie look absolutely wonderful. Matilda’s a Border Collie so grooming her can b challenging. Lauren did an awesome job. My Ralphie is a… challenge all by himself but his nails present the real challenge because the quick under them comes down sooo low tht it’s hard to cut his nails. However, Holly was able to do so… GJ Holly. The customer service ws gr8 and even though I’m skeptical when it comes to leaving. My dogs anywhere with anyone that’s not family. I felt comfy due to the many years of experience the groomers had between them. They were able to get to me in one day and my dogs are happy and that makes me happy.

The customer service is outstanding. Oh, yeah, and my dog seems to have a nice time…

What a waste of $ 17 and 40 minutes.
I wanted to get my baby boarded here for one night because I have a wedding in the city. After filling out the online application, Aubrey called me to schedule his evaluation. She scheduled me for a Thursday morning and I was looking forward to getting this taken care of.
I wish she’d mentioned that the evaluation meant paying for a daycare service and leaving my dog there for 5 hours. Liz told me I could do a half day for $ 17. As annoying as it was going to be having to drive 20-​minutes each way back to the city in the middle of the day, I knew it would be more convenient to send him there for the wedding than our usual place.
When I got back, a different girl tried to charge me $ 27 for a 5-​hour stay! Both Aubrey and Liz failed to tell me that an evaluation required a full-day’s stay that would cost almost as much as taking him to Lucky Dog in Garden City for a full overnight.
I am literally going to go out of my way in the opposite direction to drop him off there before the wedding rather than deal with the lying, money-​hungry staff at Canine to Five.

I’ve been bringing my two dogs here since they were pups. I wouldn’t take them anywhere else. They are our one stop place for daycare, grooming, and boarding. I don’t think enough people give the ones watching our furry friends enough credit. The pack leaders are their to supervise the dogs to make sure they play appropriately. They go through training to understand and identify dog behavior and body language. They learn how to handle themselves as well to gain the packs respect. They also receive additional training in animal first aid. Communication is key between pack leaders and the owners. I feel the handlers here do a damn fine job at communicating with me any time there is an issue. Any time our dog has vomited, had diarrhea, or even a play scratch we are notified. Pretty much all the handlers have dogs of their own and most of them have their dogs there with them which is comforting because it shows that they trust each other and the facility enough to bring their own dogs there. I think a lot of owners forget that this is a dog daycare, NOT a training facility so owners should be responsible for training their own dogs. The handlers do work with the dogs with minor commands like «sit» and «off» as well as leash training but it is not a place to bring dogs with bad behavior to be corrected. I recently saw a patron become irate because they brought their dog in for evaluation and the dog was dismissed for bad behavior and not being a good fit in the pack. I don’t think the patron understood that the pack has no less than 100 dogs on any given day and if a dog persists to be a problem it could result in their dog or other peoples dogs getting hurt when multiple fights break out. This is by far the best and most innovative dog daycare in the region. Liz, the owner, is always getting feedback from me on how to make my dogs experience better.

My dog LOVES it here. And you know what? I’m pretty sure they love my dog (ok, all dogs) too.
I’ve been taking her here just about every day for about 5 months and it took us a grand total of 2 days before it seemed like everyone there knew my dog and knew me. Sure, this is a business, but everyone there genuinely seems to care about the dogs as individuals not just as a revenue stream.
The «Pack Leaders» — what the call the folks walking around, monitoring the dogs — keep a close eye on things while still letting dogs be dogs. They’ll also alert you to potential health or behavioral issues (not so they can milk anything out of you but so you know and so they can ensure your dog and all the other dogs’ health and happiness) and give advice or let you know where you can get more information.
The desk staff is invariably friendly and fun and it’s a breeze to get in and out quick if you’re in a hurry, and equally easy to set up a single service (say, a bath) or a repeat service (like a scheduled flea treatment every month).
And the place is clean. I mean clean clean. They do have some fun scented waxes burning sometimes in the lobby because that many dogs means it’s going to be a little… doggy. But those folks basically wipe/​hose/​mop/​whatever down EVERYTHING in that place EVERY night (I usually pick her up right at the last minute) and on the live cams you can see them constantly cleaning, picking up messes, wiping things down, etc.
Ah yes, also the live cams and the imgur pics — you can watch your dog and all dogs throughout the day on both. The imgur pics are prolific and the cams cover pretty much the whole joint all day long. You know what’s going on there, even though you’re not.
A note on the boarding — we don’t do it much anymore but they do really have cage-​free boarding. They get to sleep on a bed (if you want) with the night attendant in a big pack and get cuddles. One day one of the night folks gave me a knowing look and said «She sleeps on the bed at home, doesn’t she. I can always tell, they’re the ones with their heads on the pillow.»
The only reason they don’t get 5 stars is… the reservations. It’s a new thing, I know why they do it, it totally makes sense. I get it. But it’s tough for me to remember to check if I’ve made a reservation for her (You can only make like 5 in a row or something on the website) so she’s going less now. And also sometimes I know I can’t take her in because something’s changed (but I usually only know that that morning) so now I’ve fluffed my rsvp so then I don’t want to make them in future because I’m not always sure.
So we don’t go as much anymore, but that doesn’t mean this place isn’t really, really amazing for dogs. Especially those with better organized parents.

Very pleasant staff. And they all seem like they somehow know my pup personally. My 4 month old really seems to enjoy himself, and comes home all tuckered out.

My dog loves it here. Then people are very nice and remember your dogs name each time. They have a large area to play in and there seems to be pack leaders in there to ensure no dog fights break out. Barley was dead tired when we picked her up so played so much they said. This place is great.

My dog loves Canine to Five. I’ve taken him for daycare, grooming, and boarding. He comes home happy EVERY time. To the person with the bad groom experience, not sure how that happened. I’ve had my double coated Samoyed groomed there several times and he always comes home looking beautiful (no matting or knotting, ever). Also, as far as the temperature goes in summer months, they have areas to take dogs who are furry or need a breather when playing. It’s air conditioned. My dog has gotten downtime there in the hotter Michigan months. They have thought of LOADS of ways to accommodate the varying breeds that come in. My dog liked to eat rocks (among other things) as a baby. Solution? New sectioned off play area safe for pups going through their mouthing stage, totally clear of rocks or pebbles. As for the dogs who are bummed to go in (which I’ve hardly witnessed myself with other drop offs), it’s not about not liking where they’re going. Previous commenters dog was comfortable with camp bow wow because he/​she was acclimated to it. Being unsure is a behavior that shows a dog is just feeling out their surroundings. As an aside, I actually used to live a mile from camp bow wow and never ever took my dog there. It wasn’t in my dogs best interest, therefore it wasn’t for me.
I love the staff, the hours, the help I’ve gotten with behavioral tips, and the fact that my dog romps and plays all day on camera. I check on him and see him happily and SAFELY playing amongst his friends. It’s clean, VERY dog friendly, and the staff communicates with you about your dog regularly. Your dog is a member of their pack, not just a customer.

I’ve been using Canine to Five for boarding, day care and grooming for years. Just picked up Lila, my bouvier, yesterday from a grooming appointment. A wonderful job on her and she looks beautiful. I totally trust the caring staff there and that says a lot.

I have been taking my dog here for almost a year now. I really love this business and so does my dog! On the way here, Fezzik (my dog) starts getting really excited. He pulls at the leash to get inside and is very impatient while waiting his turn to go in. Obviously if Fezzik is happy to return, that gives me confidence that he’s treated well.
I like that I can go online during the day and watch webcams of all the dogs running around and having fun as well as see what the staff is doing. Every day the staff posts candid photos of the dogs and Fezzik is always included in there at least once. That also makes me comfortable and confident.
I’ve heard that the prices are high – it’s $ 27 per day for a full day (over 5 hours) of daycare. IMO they have long hours. Sometimes I drop Fezzik off at 7:30am on my way to work and pick him up at 7:30pm after I’ve gotten off work and ran some errands. For the quality of the service (great staff, Fezzik gets to safely run around and socialize leash free) and the amount of time I get for the service, I think the price is fair.
The staff is great. Fezzik is a Cane Corso who is not quite 2. That means he’s big, immature, dominant with other dogs, and very playful. And his play style is rough. He’s not the easiest dog in the world to deal with. So for the staff to have great things to say about him, for them to never have a problem, and for them to give me advice on how to handle him is invaluable to me.
Sometimes when I pick him up they have a little «report card» waiting for me. It shows Fezzik’s mood that day, the other dogs he played with, and what games he played. I felt confident in Canine to Five the first day he went because the report card exactly matched Fezzik’s personality and play style. Obviously someone had been paying attention and really knew my dog. Only thing I wish? That I got a report card for him everyday.
So awesome to see a fantastic, well-​run business, right here in Detroit!

My Watson is always well taken care of. They give reviews of dogs behavior each visit. Now that you can buy food and other pet supplies there– no need to go anywhere else for your canine.

Incredible service for my pup with a great staff. They are super knowledgeable.
I would give 5 stars but I think the prices are a little high considering the area where it’s located. It is really only affordable for people with cash to spare.

The staff and service here is incredible! Their puppy program has saved our life with our newly adopted 9 month old terrier. It was a huge relief to know that our puppy was getting what she needed, attention, room to run, and socializing on a daily basis at Canine to Five. From the first day the staff were extremely helpful, friendly and interested in our dog’s well being.
Their grooming and boarding services are also incredible! Being out of town we get to see pictures of our dog daily if we want and are completely confident that our dog is getting the best care.

We love this place! More importantly, however, our dog loves this place. And why wouldn’t he? Unlike other boarding/​day care centers, the dogs who visit Canine to Five are free to roam and play as they wish for their entire visit.
The staff are extremely professional, and make a point to know your dog’s name. It’s clear that the people who work there do so because they love caring for dogs.
Also, they are a very affordable option for overnight boarding when you travel.

I used to frequent this location when my dog was a pup.
It is fairly decent, but I don’t care for the parking set-​up in this particular area (street).
The indoor play area is very large.
I have not brought my dog here for services other than play dates, but love the professionalism of the staff. They truly seem very genuine and sincere. The owner, Liz, is often present and is very down-​to-​earth.
One great thing about canine-​to-​five is the events that they sponsor between the play dates and drinking with dogs events and the riverfront canine club, I think they are pretty awesome to bring more pet-​friendly events to the city.

My dogs have been to many daycares and boarding kennels, and this by far, is the best. My dog comes home properly worn out from playing, clean, and most importantly, not smelly. The staff members know every dogs’ name, and they keep an eye on them (e.g., letting me know whether my dog’s arthritis acted up that day). They have a large play area, especially with the addition of the new play yards. They also have elevated dog beds throughout the play area, so the old girl (my dog — not me) can lay around. The best feature about this place is the convenience. Not only can I have my dog groomed (and after having furry terriers for the last 34 years, I can say they do a wonderful job and are open to suggestions), I also can buy all of her dog food, the cats’ food, collars, and cat litter at Woofbridge, which operates an onsite store.
I read a comment below about temperature in the place. During the brutal heat this summer, it was not too hot, nor was I concerned for my dog. The doors to the play yards are open, so of course, it will be warmer than a home with air conditioning. The same holds true with the winter months, during which I have boarded my dog there while I travel for work.
I also read a review about how an owner was concerned because her dog slowly walked into the day care. This is a sign of a smart dog — not an issue with the day care. For open boarding, the dogs are directly dropped off into the play area with many other dogs. Dogs instinctually and cautiously approach a pack. Once my dog enters the pack (and sometimes requires coaxing to do so), she takes off and plays. She also can be found every morning by the door, waiting impatiently to leave for day care.
Having moved downtown into an apartment this year with an older dog, the day care has helped her adjust to the move and the loss of her back yard. I also enjoy Canine to Five’s Drinking with the Dogs, a monthly get-​together of dogs and their owners at various bars/​restaurants. This has helped the owner adjust to her new surroundings and neighbors.

I haven’t boarded my dog here (it’s not exactly close), but I have been here for one of their monthly play-​dates and it’s fabulous. There was a ton of pooches, the inside is clean as well as spacious, and I loved the additional outdoors area for the dogs to play in also. The staff was very friendly to me and just by watching it was obvious that they have great interaction with dogs. The prices are the same as any other doggie daycare in the area and I plan to attend more play-​dates to come!

The doggy day care is AWESOME. They have late days for people who works outside of 9 to 5 jobs and also if you have an emergency they are willing to help.
Please note — before your dog can stay the night; they most be cleared with paperwork and see how they socialize with other dogs. I just recently came from their Sunday’s doggies play-​date which was awesome. My puppies and I stayed from 1pm to 3pm at the low cost of $ 7.
I highly recommend especially if you are trying to get your dog socialize. (Believe me – it does take alot of work)
