I really dissected all the reviews for Detroit, OR food as I am having an early summer family vacation here. I’ve had food at nearly every restaurant in town, but wanted to keep this one for last because it didn’t have really great Unilocal review. We all know reviews can be hit or miss and much depends on the waiters, chefs and general service when ordering and eating. Well, we went ahead and ordered a 10oz streak with grilled vegetables and house salad. We really had no idea how the food would turn out. But, to our surprise, the steak was cooked just perfect as we requested, medium rare and it was seasoned very nicely. The grilled veggies were really tasty as well. My wife, that is very picky about food, especially steak, really enjoyed it! We were bother very happy with the meal and felt fully satisfied. Our server was very nice, understood our order perfectly, made sure we had everything we needed and was fast. I have to say this is easily the best sit down restaurant in Detroit, OR. Not a really fancy place, very casual, but clean and a diner style atmosphere. They also have a big lounge with pool table, TVs, some arcade games and a lot of room to move around.

Good service, friendly folks, and a good place to eat in the after noon. Took a break from a bike ride and was satisfied with the BLT and coffee. The fries were basic frozen fries but good non the less. The BLT used real fresh lettuce… not iceberg and the bacon was good too. The coffee was surprisingly good for a restaurant. If you like it black, stop in for the coffee.

We were turned away from Korner restaurant as they were closing 2 hours early, decided to head back to Salem and got stuck in huge traffic line due to an accident, we drove back to Detroit, they were still open and even stayed open later for all the customers coming in. Food was typical dinner food, filled our stomachs and we left happy and full to go wait in traffic! Thank you very much for not turning us and our hungry kids away!

Mediocre at best. We went here a couple of times a year while passing through for a while, and it was pretty good for the money. Went last Memorial Day and the food was about the same, but the place was just dirty. We blamed the busy day. Tried it again recently, and the food was fair at best. My wife left a lot of her cheeseburger because of the poor quality of the meat. The bloody Mary(good in the past) was literally just tomato juice, and I am not sure if they put vodka in it for $ 7.50. The fish sandwich was greasy, and instead of the tarter sauce the menu said, it was just a slather of mayonnaise. The french fires were obviously frozen crinkle cuts, not at all crispy, just heated. Bad food for the same prices as much better restaurants.

So sad we came back! This was our second visit and we were so excited it was so great last time. The food was still good. My chicken fried steak was good but the mashed potatoes were horrible. The service is what made it a negative experience this time. There were about four tables and the waitress was acting super busy. She never once checked on us after she brought us our food. We wanted refills and something else but she never came we had to get up and ask for a Togo box and even then she acted out out and frustrated! Don’t think we will be stopping here again!

If you have a weak stomach, avoid the bathrooms. The men’s room stall– you’ll love this– has no fricken door! Serious? How hard is it for you dummies to buy a door? My god– I’ve been in bars that ATLEAST hung a shower curtain… but no door at all? So…basically… there is NOMEN’S TOILET to crap in here! There is a porcelain fixture to pee in with a divider wall, nothing more. Beyond that, their beer doesn’t look to be kept cold enough. Every tap handle the poor girl yanked only produced foam. Pass on this place and buy chicken strips and fountain drinks at the market next door– which DOES have bathrooms.

I got the 6oz steak with mash potatoes and salad. The salad was good and so was the mash potatoes but for some reason I asked for well done on my steak and they just couldn’t get it right. They had to take it back and cook it a little longer and even after the second time it was still a bit bloody inside. Would not eat here again not because of that in particular but because when she returned my steak to me she was in the middle of cleaning grease and oils off the floors and stuff and didn’t bother to wash her hands. Just grosses me out is all.

I will usually stop in when I’m passing through or spending the weekend up on the lake. Service is mediocre at best and the food is typical diner food. The lounge is far better to sit in vs the restaurant side. I care for the silverware in the beer boxes on the tables. Who knows who touching what! Bathrooms smell atrocious and need a good cleaning. I think the porta-potties out in front of the grocery store may be cleaner.

The customer service was terrible. The food is not anything special. For a town that needs help they should be overly helpful and gracious. Not so much here. It’s to bad. Was going to come back on the way home but not now. A girls trip of 7 girls should have been a good experience.

After trying to find an open place to eat in the area we heard this place was good and local to our camping. …so late lunch, early dinner! And it was pretty darn good! Yummy salad with the meal and the tots are good. No complaints with the service either, nice waitress. Gray pave to stop while camping in the Detroit Lake area.

Perfect small town restaurant with good food, attentive service and cute woodsy atmosphere. We’ll be back, probably three more times before we leave town.

I really tried to like this place… It is hard to like a place when the breakfast server(who was alone and liked to express that to everyone… all 8 people in the place) is so rude to everyone, how is it that I came in for dinner last night and you had tables put together for 8 people, and this morning you told a group they werent allowed to do the same thing? I even asked if the meal I ordered came with anything else, because other items had extra items not listed like my sons meal, and she sternly said everything is on the menu that comes with it while rolling her eyes. Everyone else in the place was fantastic for other meals and the bar area is a great getaway for the evenings in this small town

I cannot believe the low star rating for this place. It’s a family run business and has been for 65 years. If it’s been around that long, I’m going to say, Cedars is doing something right and Unilocalers are doing something wrong. It is exactly what you’d expect. Standard burgers, standard salads and your typical eggs & bacon breakfast. We liked it so much, we went twice. Once for the restaurant for breakfast and once to the lounge for drinks. We had a very solid breakfast.(Eggs, toast, hash browns and bacon.) And at night the bar was good. The bar was filled with locals and lumber décor. It was nice. I see a lot of reviews criticize the service, but we were happy both times with the service. Maybe the grumpy waitress is gone?

Stopped on a route between Salem & Bend I’m dieting so it’s not always easy to get the right foods. At 4:00pm I ordered an egg-white omelet & asked what they had for veggies. They sautéed me plenty of fresh veggies. It was all YUMMY! Will definitely stop here again!

This place is great in my book. I was a little surprised at the overall 3-star rating for this place because the service was very good and attentive. The breakfast is solid for just your ordinary Americana menu. I mean, I live in the same hood as the 24-hour Hotcake House in Portland and that place is butt ashes. Cedars food is very fresh and has real taste to it. I recommend the Mediterranean Omelette if your in for breakfast… yeah, belee dat.

The Family Stopped by on our way to Sunriver… I ordered the FULL Cobb Salad! It was not BIG… It was GIGANTIC! It was enough for Four People! There should be a prize for eating the whole thing(Which I did)! So unless you are starving or a rabbit… The half order is more than enough! I am very sorry, but I failed to take a picture! They have a great sports bar, and I would love to be in the neighborhood to hang out the next game day! I am going to make every effort to go back and spend my hard earned after tax dollars! Enjoy… West-Morry

The service started out okay and the people working were friendly, but we had to bring our cups up to the bar a couple of times to get refills of coffee. We also had to get up to get any extras because no one would come check on us. When asking about some extra crispy hash browns we ordered they just said, «oh your meal doesn’t come with that.» But when we asked for them to be extra crispy they said they could cook them that way for us. So we don’t really know what they ended up cooking extra crispy for us haha The chicken strips and French fries were store bought freezer quality and you could get cheaper more delicious ones at mcdonalds. They weren’t even seasoned or remotely enjoyable to eat. The breakfast food was your okay typical road side diner food, nothing special. after waiting for a long time to receive a check we decided to get up to pay and I think paying as you exit is customary so that one was our bad. I don’t think I’ll ever be in a situation where I would have to eat here again, but if I was, I’d pass.

Tried ordering my hamburger cooked medium and the waitress snapped at me that the State of Oregon has a rule stating that they MUST thoroughly cook all of their meat they serve. I’ve been all over this state consuming medium cooked meat no problem. Usually restaurants say consume at your own risk, kind of a bummer they didn’t allow that. Anyways, It was a burger that definitely was cooked. Had a beer, it was fine. I’ll try and not go here again, but selection in Detroit is so limited.
