How the heck is this place so popular? I got the Pad Thai, and the Tom Yum soup. The only reason I gave this place 2 instead of 1 star is because the soup was actually really good. I asked for the Pad Thai medium hot, but instead I got noodles drenched in greasy, over-the-top sweet sauce. Absolutely awful. Never again. Also, my friend got spring rolls and they were TINY. Not worth the money.

The noodle dishes are okay. But way too much sauce and oil. The curry dishes are much better. The biggest problem with this place is seating. I always have to wait 20 minutes or so with food in hand just to sit down. Way too small for the amount of business generated here.

Lunch special here is amazing at a great price! Go for the special — $ 9.99 for a drink, spring roll and a large plate. I had the pad Thai and it was one of the best I’ve had at a carry out type place! I ordered the hot and it was just a touch spicier than my «perfect spot» but not so much that I couldn’t eat it. The pad Thai had a ton of bean sprouts, big pieces of green onion & peanuts. The portion was enough for two meals making it an even better deal! The spring roll was fine, but not that crispy by the time my order was done. This was my complaint this place is(rightfully) busy at lunch so takeout still took 15 minutes, which wasn’t entirely horrible. I can’t say for certain, but I didn’t see a take out option when I initially looked at their website. All in all a fantastic choice, go here!

Thai food shouldn’t taste like cheese sauce. I really wanted to like this place but every dish I’ve tried gets 2 thumbs down for being too salty. I give it 2 stars because at the end of the day it is is edible #barely but trust and believe you will be disappointed.

The restaurant seems great but my experience was just ok. Reasonable price doesn’t always mean good taste. Overall, it I was salty when it come to Pa Nang.

I don’t understand why people like this place! Pad Thai is bland and greasy; drunken noodles are okay, still greasy though Chicken main entrée(sesame or sweet & sour or something– I don’t know what they were trying to do here) was again bland Noodles are more reminiscent of egg noddles in texture All the Med students and residents I know think this place is great– it’s so subpar

Looking for fast Asian food with Thai inspiration? Familiar with No Thai! from U of M or MSU? Go Sy Thai is a great place to stop by for lunch or carry-out. When looking at price, you will probably end up spending a little over $ 10 for a filling meal. The spice levels here are no joke. Hot(4 red peppers) is definitely numbing and I would recommend going lower if you want to enjoy the flavor of the food along with with the spice. For those unfamiliar, I’d strongly recommend giving the drunken noodles or potato curry a try. Extra rice is quite expensive($ 1-$ 3) so portion appropriately. The restaurant is also not the best for larger groups — especially during peak lunch and dinner hours. The fact that there is regular traffic though definitely testifies to the quality and taste of this restaurant. Give this place a try if you’re in the mood for something Asian while in Detroit!

Fresh, and So Spicy ! just like I love it. The best deal is Lunch and make it a Take Away. Call Ahead and Get The Special. You Never Loose. Yes parking is a mess but the food is worth it.

Most amazing thai food restaurant in the D. They prices are very reasonable and their chicken curry is the best I have ever had.

The Beau’s brother was in town and we wanted to take him to get Thai food. It reminds me of No Thai in Ann Arbor/East Lansing, but not as greasy. We ordered the pad Thai with shrimp for me, drunken noodles with beef for the Beau’s brother, and the pad cashew for the Beau. I should have ordered my pad Thai at the hot spicy level because medium was not hot enough for me, but that was my mistake. The portions are very substantial for the price. The pad Thai was a bit too sweet for my taste, but I know that sometimes it varies on the cook. I’ll ask for more lemon next time. The pad cashew was good, but I wouldn’t order it again. I didn’t get to try the drunken noodles, but Beau’s brother liked it very much. I’ll definitely come back to try the potato beef curry, and other rice dishes!

Holy sh*t. No. If you’ve never had Thai food, or you’re from like Dayton… fine. Eat here. It’s not as if the food is inherently bad. It’s just not Thai. Three examples: 1. There is never lettuce in summer rolls. And yet that’s all there was in them when I ordered them. I’m not about ordering what is essentially salad wrapped in rice paper. 2. How does one screw up skewered meat? If you really want to know, order the Satay. I wondered if it was really chicken. 3. My tom yum soup supposedly had lemon grass. It didn’t. It had jasmine friggin’ tea in it. It was a terrible excuse for tom yum soup. Do yourself a favor and eat… I dunno… anywhere else.

I jinxed myself. I wrote a great review a few weeks ago, but I have to come back and say, the last two times were slightly disappointing. I work in Southwest Detroit so it’s quite a drive to get Go! Sy Thai. I don’t have much time for lunch, but I order my food and pick up. Sometimes I have a large order so I get nervous about items possibly being missing from my order. I’ve gotten used to my orders always being correct, that I don’t even think to check if my order is correct. The last two times, however, there were items missing and I did not notice until I was already back at the job. I’m not about to drive back 15 – 20 minutes for missing rice or spring rolls. They did apologize and offer to make up for the missing items on my next visit. You all are still my favorite Thai place. I just have to double check my order before I leave. LOL.

It is a nice alternative to the long standing Shangri-La. Conveniently located on Wayne State University’s campus, Sy Thai is quickly serving up your favorite Thai food. If you like spicy, there is an unforgetable condiment of fresh chopped chilli peppers marinated in simple syrup and vinegar. It is in a plastic bottle on the counter next to the register. Sriracha has nothing on this amazing sauce. There is plenty of street parking available. The restaurant is the small but has the appropriate amount of seating being that a large portion of the business is take-out. The staff was friendly and prepared the food quickly.

I went to school in Ann Arbor where they have the infamous No Thai as their premier fast food Thai restaurant. I can proudly say that this place is even better. I have had Sy Thai at least 45 times as I go to school a quarter mile away. I have never had a bad meal in all those entrees. They have a great lunch deal for 9.25 with a spring roll and drink if spring rolls are your thing. They also give 10 percent off to Wayne State students! If you call ahead you can skip the wait that sometimes piles up around lunch and dinner time. I recommend the sesame chicken or drunken noodles. Sesame chicken comes with broccoli and pineapple mixed in with breaded chicken and rice. It’s sweet and savory and fantastic. The drunken noodles are also savory but you get more salty and spicy if you’re looking for some extra kick. This place is pretty standard in terms of spice level. If you get hot, you’ll be ok with hot here. Portions are reasonable size for the price you get, which is cheap. Overall: best way to get quick Thai food if you’re in a hurry.

This place is such a gem!!! My husband and I just moved here and we are always looking for new places to eat. Sooo glad we ran into this one. One of the best thai places… the food comes quick and the staff is super friendly!!! Perfect little place to eat in midtown Detroit. You gotta try the Drunken Noodles and the Sy’s Fried Rice here! Food was a bit on the salty side so u may want to adjust your order accordingly.

Ordered the drunken noodles for take out. They said it would be about 10 minutes. Got there early around 7 minutes later and my food was already done! Love the fast service and just because they are fast does not mean they skimped on flavor either. I really wished that my first encounter with these guys wasn’t a take out, but hey at least I know it’s delicous and when your working in the downtown Detroit area that isn’t midtown, this is your Thai place to go!

I tried the gluten free tom yum soup(vegetable version) and chicken pad Thai. The soup was a clear broth and the veggies were good. It was a bit too spicy, so I ended up giving most of it to my husband. The pad Thai is also gluten free, but I thought it was the worst pad Thai I have ever had. It was strangely sweet and didn’t seem to have any fish sauce for flavoring.

So, I’m going to ask you all to bear with me and see where I’m coming from. I spend most of my nights in Ann Arbor and one thing I can tell you that Ann Arbor cannot do right is Thai food. The problem with that is that I judge towns by how good their Thai restaurants are. I was blessed to come up in a space that always had awesome ones. So, any decent Thai food in this here state that I encounter is going to be scrutinized heavily and that means from here to the UP. When I initially saw the name Go Sy Thai, my mind went to immediately to No Thai and my brain began to scream with discontent. The very idea of fast order Thai I just found to be unsettling. THISPLACE, HOWEVER, GETSITRIGHT — at least my Pad See Iew was delicious and only took about 10 minutes from order to my arms. Along a street reminiscent of Williamsburg and Chicago(weird combination) you walk in, maneuver somehow to the left(of you walked in on the Cass side) and above you stands a menu of all the different meals with a variety of proteins to be added. Just my luck, they’ve a pretty great lunch special: 9.25 for a large plate, a spring roll and a fountain drink. It was clean, an interesting set up, much like a take out restaurant but without that rushed feel. They get your name right and yell it loud and PROUD when your food is ready AND dare I say, a lovely mixture of Midtown’s, albeit changing, demographics. My pad see iew was delicious, sweet(as it should be) a little eggy, chicken-y, the only thing I could’ve done more of is the broccoli, so that I could have even a deluded semblance(a semblance nonetheless) of health. Other than that, it was not too far from its counterparts served in spaces with similar/better food scapes. I’ve been meaning to explore metro Detroit more, in general, and there seems no better place to start than its food scene. This, this was only the beginning.

I really liked this place. Very short wait time for our food, in a great location, very casual as you order at the counter and listen for your number to be called. And don’t forget the Detroit-inspired décor! I had udon noodles with chicken. The noodles were perfectly cooked with just the right amount of chew, which is very important. The only misstep was the chicken, could have been a bit more flavorful. My husband had the pad thai, which was fabulous and i would have had more if he hadn’t chosen the spice level of burn your lips off. But my favorite part of the meal was the crispy rolls, they were great. Start your meal with them and and you will be pleased. Overall a great addition to Mid-town!
