Beach House Dewey

Pros: Concierge was friendly. Dimmer switch for bedside lights was a nice touch. Could see bay from window. Décor, cleanliness. Proximity to beach, walk along driveway only took a minute or two and there were no streets to cross.
Cons: Needed to reserve on-​site parking in advance to receive a parking pass. Why did they not do this courtesy as part of the purchase price?! The need to reserve a space was not clear until after a second look under ‘policies’ on the booking dot com site.
Sink did not drain since there was no stopper handle. To solve this problem we deigned to use a Kiwanis Club smoked chicken wing bone to help the water empty freely.
Photo promised that a regular king size room would have a living area with sofa. Nope, merely a small bedroom with two economy wire frame chairs and a small round table that wobbled.
Small room echoed heavily for lack of furnishings and next door conversations were crystal clear.
None of the rooms at this location has a view of the ocean.
WiFi was terribly slow and essentially unusable during normal waking hours because of shared bandwidth.
The above amenities are basics and for the price paid should be well provided, in my opinion.

We got this at a last minute price so I can’t complain about the rate. The room itself is nice. The music from the club across the street is insane. It sounds like it’s inside the room.
There are only 2 pillows per bed, the air conditioning blows directly in your face on one bed, no closet, no hair dryer, no iron/​board and the Internet is unreliable. It’s very bare bones so make sure you bring what you need. I wouldn’t stay here again due to the noise and air conditioning.
It has a cool design and is close to the beach. The pool also looks decent.

So the reason for 3 stars is two fold. The price and the noise level. Other than that the room itself was very Miami Chic and clean. We got a room with two double beds, a large standing mirror, dresser, and small table. This is basically a motel style hotel, our window looked into the parking lot and a small pool, which we did not use. However, there is free parking for one car so that is a plus.
The problem with noise isn’t really the hotel’s fault. The location is great only a few minutes walk to Starboard and several of the other popular bars/​restaurants in Dewey. There was a small shopping center to the right of the hotel with pizza, subs, and a Dairy Queen. I think that was the primary source of drunken teenagers screaming and plenty of cop sirens to keep even the strongest sleeper awake.
Finally, I paid over 300 including taxes per night. I feel like that is a little bit extreme, I know it is tourist season and all, but still. Also, the beach was a 2 minute walk so that is also a major plus and probably part of the reason for the expense.
Overall I give the place 3.5 stars, I probably wouldn’t stay there again unless I got a cheaper price, but while I was there I was pretty comfortable.
PS. They have hairdryers if you just ask the front desk.

My husband and I came here for a last minute beach trip. I picked this motel based on it’s location. It’s within walking distance to the beach, restaurants, and bars. Also there weren’t a lot of other options available on short notice.
The rooms have all been recently remodeled with new laminate floors and new Ikea-​like modern furniture. Having a hotel room next to the beach with no carpet is a great idea! That being said, I would think that all of the sand from the previous guest would have been cleaned up by the time I checked in, but the floors were still sandy. I also noticed a few dead bugs on the floor.
The bathroom looked recently remodeled as well, but the grout in the shower looked dirty/​moldy. There is a shower gel and shampoo dispenser in the shower, but no conditioner, and our shower gel dispenser happened to be empty.
There is a mini-​fridge and a microwave, which is a plus since there is no breakfast included. Two items noticeably missing from the room are a coffee maker and a hair dryer. My day doesn’t start without a coffee, so that is kind of an issue for me. Thankfully there are several breakfast locations within walking distance. There was supposed to be free wifi, but I was never able to connect to it.

Great beach spot. Hotel was clean and comfortable with a perfect location. I brought my family down for a weekend and this was the best beach hotel experience we have had coming to the DE beaches.
I have recommended this to several friends and they now been back numerous times. This is a winner.
