Douglaston Manor

We got married at Douglaston Manor in May 2016. It was so amazing! Anthony Calogero, our Banquet Manager was so helpful and great during the entire year of planning. He gave us very helpful tips, he did not steer us wrong! I have to say that my bridal attendant, Lisa, was an angel! She went far and beyond for my husband and I to feel relaxed, calm and HAPPY! I felt like I had known her for years! She really, truly made our special day, extra amazing! Mike, our Maître D was really great also. He took care of all the «behind-​scene» things, and made sure everything went perfectly. All of the guests told me later that it was a flawless event and we had a wonderful time!!! I love that we choose the Douglaston Manor and I really appreciate all the staff — especially Anthony, Lisa and Mike!

I came here for a wedding and the physical plant was actually in the style of a beautiful Italian villa. I really wanted to like the place which overlooks the golf course, but the food was horrible! The appetizers were of poor quality frozen fare such as chicken tenders, mozz sticks, pigs in a blanket, etc. There was a mash potato station which was actually the best thing. The crab cakes were also frozen fair and flavorless… I just had the steak as well which was ordered med well and brought out rare which I sent back and it returned with the consistency of rubber!

My daughter’s middle school prom was here. The buffet was lack luster and the waiter staff is inexperienced since they were mostly high schoolers. The waiter that served me on the buffet line was sloppy. He just threw the steak on my plate. The wait staff was eating and drinking in front of us. No one picked up spills. Would never book an event here!!!

The golf course is nice!
While the setting was lovely, I have to say the staff could use some serious customer service training. The food was lack luster to say the least. Calling underdone chicken on a stick, chicken satay is an insult to Thai food and sans dipping sauce
The main meal steak and fish arrived cold and some plates could use a little tidy before leaving the kitchen. My fish was underdone and looked like soup, could not eat it. Thank goodness for the antipasto station which helped sustain me until I got home.

My friend had their wedding here and it was a mess. The servers were making fun of my friend, the manager was screaming at him, the food was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever tasted, and the place itself was disgusting. Very dirty, it smelled, and they had stuff from other weddings all over the place. They were very unprofessional with the bride, groom, and their guest. It was so sad to see the wedding being held in such a horrible place. Please read reviews before going here. It’s outdated, the staff and management are mean and disrespect people, and the food is the worst.

The food is horribleeee, went to a communion party cheapest of everything salami, peperoni, cheeses, garbage. Then came the worst red sauce pasta I have ever eaten, ragu or chef boy ardee. would have been gourmet. Main course one worse than the other chicken Francese, fish god knows what it was, flank steak or a horses ass. NEVER GO HERE GET A HAPPY MEAL AT MC DONALDS YOU’LL ENJOY IT BETTER

I went to Douglaston Manor in my venue search. It’s a nice place, but when I filled out the intake interview, there was a box that asked me if I wanted outside vendors to contact me. I checked «no». However, I still had several vendors contact me and it was quite annoying. I was disappointed that the venue would disrespect my decision. the ceremony and cocktail space are nice, but the ballroom needs a bit of updating.

Came to their new years eve party. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. For some reason they did not have our reservation. After searching for our reservation for a few minutes and coordinating with staff, we were told not to worry. We were greeted by more members of staff that I’d assume was upper management /​ownership. Very very nice, sweet, and accommodating people. While waiting, we saw a worker get a table from storage with a tablecloth which was most likely ours. They charged my card and took our picture and off we went to our own table, all the while they were apologizing for misplacing our reservation. We were seated somewhat in the middle of a walkway, since we weren’t scheduled to be there when they designed the floor plans. This led to some issues. We felt as if we were forgotten about by the wait staff for most of the night. While the management came to check on us more than enough times, the wait staff had to be constantly reminded to serve us, by both myself and management. It seemed as if we were always last to be served and never by the same server. After a half hour wait for our entrée albeit everyone seemed to be waiting, just us a little longer than most, I realized I was left without a fork. After telling the server that brought me the food I did not have a fork he told me ok and he would return with one. As I saw many other servers bring forks to other tables, which led me to believe they’re was some sort of fork shortage, no server came close to our table. I watched as the server that I told I didn’t have a fork went back and forth bringing other tables food forks and drinks. Half way through he returned to let me know he «hadn’t forgotten.» Really? My cold food seemed to disagree. Food was really good despite this. Filet mignon was so tender I could cut it with a butter knife. I should know because I had to do just that since they «ran out of steak knives.» Music wasn’t very good. Crowd was nice, late 20s to early 60s. Room designs were good, 2 seperate dining areas met in the middle with the dj and dance floor. So no one was seated too close to the dj. We enjoyed our experince and thank you so much to the staff. We plan to be back for wedding details :).

I attended the 2015 Taekwondo Ball here tonight. What a gorgeous venue. Clean. Thoughtful décor. Great view. The staff was friendly. This includes everyone from the valets to the busboys. The butler served appetizers were tasty. The entrees were good. Coffee and dessert hit the spot. I love this place.

Thanksgiving day review.
I came to Douglaston Manor on two occasions. The first being a Christmas party years ago and second being a wedding I attended recently. The first time around was mediocre and a bit boring from what I remembered. It was too formal and having your boss around, it wasn’t easy to enjoy so I’ll mostly base this review on my second experience.
I’m going to start with some of he negatives. There weren’t many so relax. The valet parking attendants were dicks. I wasn’t sure who was doing what and they all seemed to ignore you as if you were invisible so I decided to park my own car and they complained about that. I saw several other guest parking their own vehicles with no issues from the valets. The second issue I had was with the servers. None of them were friendly and they were all pushy and kinda bum rushing everything so they could get their shift over with and leave.
Well, even with the rude valets and servers, that didn’t stop any of us from having a awesome night. It was my long time friend’s wedding. I knew this kid since he was in kindergarten with my cousin. Cocktail hour and the hor d’oeuvres were pretty amazing. There was a lot of food to go around. Some people including myself that was the main course until they moved us into the grand hall. Open bar all night and jack on the rocks made my evening. The DJ was humorous and fun. They played great music and got the guest dancing on their feet all night long. We had a choice of steak, chicken, or fish for our entrée. I chose the steak and they grilled up a pretty darn good one here. They didn’t cheap out and give you a puny little flank of steak. It was a legit piece of meat grilled to perfection that evening. I was impressed.
Verdict — I don’t know the numbers to the price of having a wedding in Douglaston Manor however I must say, the space they provided was plentiful.

While the venue and rooms are beautiful my husband and I were EXTREMELY upset and unhappy with the service and QUALITY we received for our wedding yesterday, Sept. 19^th. The food for the most part was horrible and don’t even ask about the terrible wait staff we had. Last time I checked, it’s not up to the BRIDE AND GROOM to go to their guests’ tables to see if everything was okay and to inform them of what was available to them by means of drinks and certain food items.
I don’t know what happened to the quality of this place from when we first planned our reception a couple of month ago to the actual day but the entire day was ruined by both the blah food and the crap staff. Anytime we brought anything to the attention of the maitre’d we got yessed to death and were assured he «would look into that immediately» but in the end no problem was resolved. I had a few VEGAN guests and made special requests for their dinner entrees, to be told by Anthony Calogero the banquet manager that the «chef» (and I use the term loosely) would prepare tofu with vegetables. Great! I thought the problem for these guests would be solved… until they had to ask their waitstaff like five times for this entrée, and when it was finally brought to them it was two slabs of tofu grilled and a couple of broccoli stalks. REALLY? To add insult to injury when asked about why it was so plain one of my guests was handed a bottle of soy sauce for her to «season» her dish and was told that the «chef said the bride requested to make it as plain as possible.» WHAT?
Forget the penne a la vodka — tasted like a crap jar sauce. «Roasted» red potatoes — some raw and ALL were bland, hard little hockey pucks. Rest of the food average at best.
Wedding cake was NOT the one I ordered and filling of it was wrong too, and it wound up tasting like a supermarket bakery cake… this is what I spent thousands of dollars for? I got a lame apology and was told it was the baker who «dropped the ball» on several orders this weekend and that they wouldn’t be using their services anymore. Well… that doesn’t really help ME out now, does it? Thanks for ruining THAT part too Douglaston Manor.
Wait staff didn’t give a damn about our guests, never refilled water or soft drink glasses, served cake WITHOUT coffee initially, and when they DID serve coffee it was bitter and stale!
On several occasions we complained that the air conditioning was not working properly either and that never really got addressed. Many guests removed jackets and ties because they were not very comfortable.
Lastly, I was assured of the facility’s wifi capability as I did not have a DJ for the entire length of my party. I was relying on satellite radio to take over when my DJ left. Well of course they couldn’t get that working either, and if I didn’t have some CDs on hand THAT would have been ruined as well.
Raising these complaints to them the day after they wouldn’t do anything to make it right. So, thanks for NOTHING Douglaston Manor, except for successfully ruining my special day that I can never get back. Don’t let this happen to YOU, folks.

Beautiful venue for a wedding, food was delicious and there is plenty of nice scenery :)

the food was so good! it was my first time here for a family dinner than grew up in douglaston and have spent much time at the manor. according to them the food has greatly improved, so I’m going to give them five stars.
The service was lovely, and so was the food. I had the special of the day– skirt steak salsa verde. it would’ve been better if they put the salsa on the side since it added such a big tingle to the steak. the fries are also delicious ! and the set up of the food plate was unique.
overall, had a great time.

NO HIGHCHAIRS. Def not a child/​family friendly environment. Should your event have guests that require highchairs be sure to inform them they have to lug their own furniture to the party. The facility has ONLY ONE high chair. Since our party had multiple children that needed highchairs, the staff pretty much said there was nothing they could do. Our guests had to juggle their toddlers/​babies on their laps during dinner. Great option if you have no intentions of enjoying your meal. Apparently you can’t assume that event halls will be family friendly. Food was okay. But since I barely ate anything I can’t tell you much. Service was typical as well.

While shopping around for wedding venues, we considered Douglaston Manor. It seemed like a nice enough place and the manager we met with was nice enough to negotiate with is so that we could get exactly what we wanted.
Unfortunately they were the only place low class enough to give our name and number out to vendors for them to cold call us. I know it was them because one vendor was dumb enough to answer my question about who gave them my number and they were also the only venue we saw that is affiliated with the venues that bothered us.

I was here for my cousin’s wedding about 2 weeks ago. I don’t see why people are giving them a hard time.
Some background: I am in the food industry and know what to look for and what is proper.
The waitstaff was attentive and properly dressed. I’ve heard this was an issue in the past, but it has clearly been fixed. These guys were on top of things. I got my drinks quickly and my food was right.
Food: definitely above average (and not just for a catering hall). The spread was outstanding and my chicken avellino was moist. The sea scallops wrapped in bacon was a killer appetizer. One of those dishes that make you feel like you’re in a proper hall.
View: you can see NYC from the outside. The place is on a golf course and has such an amazing sunset. Inside, the place is like a mansion. Your own private mansion. Must be nice to live like this.
The place is a solid catering hall. I would consider this for my own wedding. Definitely a hidden gem here.

* This review is based solely on a one time tour/​visit for my upcoming wedding. *
My fiancé and I were engaged in December and didn’t really start looking into things until after the holidays. We have looked at 3 other venues: The Prospect Park Boathouse, Deity Brooklyn and Water’s Edge. Prospect Park Boathouse has been my dream wedding venue for years but it doesn’t meet our budget (rates start $ 170 per person + site fees). We were surprised to like Water’s Edge being that their Unilocal reviews aren’t fantastic. From the outside, it looks ‘meh’ but the ballroom is pretty and has an old world feel to it. Water’s Edge gave us a rate of $ 120 per person but we decided not to go with it because of the additional fees (valet parking, gratuity, administration fees…). Deity is a beautiful out of the box venue for a wedding. It came very close but Ciao (the person who handles private events) suggested that we don’t do an open bar and that we do a capped tab (we set a price limit and then open bar comes to a stop). We had an appointment to check out the space but decided not to because it just seems shady that they require «NYS sales tax and a 20% gratuity to pay staff will be applied to ALL payments.» It’s just weird that they’d ask for gratuity multiple times.
Which led me to look elsewhere.
I NEVER imagined to get married in a manor because to me, it seems so cookie-​cutter. I found out about the Douglaston Manor via TheKnot and after looking at various wedding photos online, I was already in love with the venue. I read Unilocal reviews about it and they weren’t amazing but my fiancé and I decided to check it out anyway and we were glad that we did.
We really don’t see a lot of negative things about this place. I mean, if manors aren’t your thing then you probably won’t like it but then again, I was one of those people.
We called them on a Sunday and made an appointment to see it the same day and they were very cooperative. We showed up way earlier than the time we initially told them and we did wait maybe 10 minutes but they allowed us to roam around and they even offered us cookies and coffee. We met Anthony who was so nice and showed us every room and answered every question we had.
My fiancé and I really liked that we can use multiple rooms. We like that the time between ceremony and cocktail hour is short. We like that it’s in a great area and that it is secluded in a way. We love that it is accessible by public transportation. We like that they have stations during cocktail hour (we get to pick 3 with a 100 guests). We like that everything is included: food, venue, tables, chairs, linens, napkins, glasses, plates, silverware, cake… My fiancé will be having a cigar/​whiskey booth. I love that I get a legit bridal suite with a bathroom AND a balcony overlooking the reception space. I also especially love that my groom gets to have his own suite (this is for an additional fee but they will give it to you if no parties are being held at the same time). Btw, there is a lounge area between the bridal and groom suites. I also love that they not only have a ceremony arch but 2 arches: one in the garden and one overlooking the golf course. I also love that they allow sparklers and gratuity is included in the rate they gave us. For a Friday night wedding with 100 guests, our total (pre tax) is around $ 12,000.
The only ‘bad’ thing I have to say about Douglaston Manor is that staying the night isn’t an option. And there is a painting in the main reception room that I am not quite fond of but whatever, I can deal with that.

Honestly, I’m quite shocked to see such low ratings for this place on Unilocal.My husband and I came here for a friends wedding on a rainy day. The place was beautifully arranged for a indoor wedding. I loved the setting for a small wedding. The best part was the food!!! Omg! So delicious!!! I definitely didn’t expect it and was blown away by the selections and delicious items during the appetizer hour. I have to say, after being to a few weddings in NY, this was by far my favorite place for wedding food!

I had my wedding here this year. From the moment I walked in I knew I had to get married here. The place is beautiful and they keep it tidy. I went to a bridal showcase they had. the food was delicious but I was not too fond of the decorations they had that day. It just was too over the top with ice sculptures and lights and fruits cut in different shapes, which was understandable while having a showcase. It was nice just not my style. I knew for my wedding I would have it decorated differently so I wasn’t worried.
We had spoken to Thomas about having an outdoor ceremony, weather permitting, of course. The day finally came and it was raining all morning, but the ceremony was at 7pm. I had arrived early as I was traveling from NJ and left early to avoid traffic. I was immediately greeted by Thomas, and Carlos. About an hour before the ceremony I was told they were setting up inside for the ceremony since the floor was still wet. I love the view of the golf course so I had politely asked if it was possible to have it outside. I was thrilled when Carlos said «don’t worry we will make it happen». The ceremony was held outside and was beautiful with mimosas for the guests.
During the entire night I had a bridal assistant who was THE BEST. The moment I got into the bridal suite with my bridesmaids she was attentive and most importantly, professional. She greeted us, introduced herself (Samantha) and said whatever we needed to just ask. Many brides I have spoken to say they don’t have time to eat, now this was a major concern because I get super cranky and many times get sick if I don’t eat. After the ceremony and pictures we were asked to wait in the suite until the reception (15mins). As soon as she saw me she fixed me a plate and reminded me to eat. A few times during the reception I went back to the suite to change shoes and she was right there behind me helping me. After I was done changing she would make sure the suit was locked since our things were in there. I swear she has a twin or something because I would go back downstairs as she was locking everything up and by the time I was at my seat she was there making sure I felt comfortable. She even packed up food for me that I didn’t finish eating. If you’re thinking of getting married here ask for Samantha because she really went above and beyond.
Overall this place was great. I gave it four instead of five because I was told my wedding would be the only event that night and when the reception started there was another party next door who also had music and it was confusing when I was walking in and saw strangers in the lobby. I would’ve been OK with it because they gotta make money but why say only one event at a time? Anyways I still recommend because as I stated it was great.

Was here for a dinner banquet… And it was mehh
1) there was a leak from the ceiling by one of the tables therefore the solution was to place an ugly white plastic container that they use to collect dirty plates to catch the water
2) the food was on the level of something found in the dining hall of a school. The best part about the food was maybe the store bought bread and the coffee…
3) one of the servers got pasta sauce on someone’s shirt sleeve but did apologize and went to check what type of base the sauce was made with to better advise how to get the stain out
4) there were private bathrooms in our banquet room which was nice
Overall nothing special however it is affordable.
