I went to the Shuttle Inn for the very first time on Super Bowl Sunday. Wow, what an experience! Can I just tell you, Christina is absolutely WONDERFUL! She seems to know how to handle EVERYBODY! You really need to see this place to believe it. I met a lot of nice people who hang out here: Louis, who has lived in this area since 1933, Todd, who works for Lockheed Martin and is the consummate gentleman, Kenny, who has been coming here 15 years, Max, a charming Chinese man who seems to know everybody on a first-name basis, and Richard, the owner, he supplied a lot of great free food for everyone tonight. Anyway, I just moved into the area at Brookshire and Imperial Highway, and I plan on being a regular. So make sure to tip Christina well. She really is worth it. And if you ever see me, say hello.

I used to come here when everything was fun and the bartenders were cool. They had karaōke all week except Thursdays(dj night). It’d get packed but goddam it was fun! The drinks were great. They’d hook it up ;) then dun dun duuuun… they switched djs. The crowd changed to a «homie» crowd. oh no! Bye bye Noemi. Cholas dont like me because I have perfect eyebrows hahaha

Had an awesome time here. Coral was my bartender and she’s as sweet as they come! She made me belated St Patrick’s Day drinks! It was the day after and she still hooked me up with classic mean green drinks! I’m so looking forward to going back on Monday Tuesday or Friday night! ;)

It should be noted that this is a locals bar, catered more towards regulars more than anything else. It is also one of the cheapest places to buy drinks that I know of. Oh, and it is downright classy compared to the Anarchy: SHUDDER: As far as the atmosphere and clientele goes, you would be surprised to know that, you know, taking the time to talk to people doesn’t make them out as bad as you think they are based on appearance. Most of these«scary» cholos are hard-working, blue collared folk, blowing off some steam and looking out for people who will give the time to listen. While I have seen arguments, I have never seen an all out brawl ever happen here, and most of the regulars look out for each other. One night, one of these people even helped me and a friend out in a tough spot. That being said, you should only really be here if you have a plan to walk here. Contrary to what most people think, this place is actually close to a lot of intersection that lead to safe streets and, so long as you’re not driving drunk or doing anything stupid, the police generally leave you alone. It is located next to a really safe area in Downey, if you head east from there(taking Patton and Lakewood). It also serves as a good anchoring point if you decide to barhop in the area, which, if you don’t mind a Mexican Bar atmosphere, has at least three bars in walking distance: all next to each other. All an all, while this isn’t a bar you would lounge or stay enough for long(especially if you have friends looking for a place to stay in over the course of a night), it has it’s uses. Taxis regularly arrive here, and most will charge less money if you live in the area. There is also a volunteer group that regularly stops here to make sure people don’t drive home drunk. As stated, not exactly a hidden gem: more like a hideaway. An… EVIL…hideaway…haha…HAHA…ha – No. Not really. :3

Came here with my buddy Juan, his wife Eliza, and my other buddy Eddie one Saturday night. They take credit cards. They have a jukebox and after a certain time, I think it was probably 9pm, they have free karaōke. People line up by writing on a piece of paper which song they want to sing and their first name. My buddy Eddie sung Kryptonite and some Spanish love song. They have an extensive collection of music to select for the karaōke. That’s pretty sweet. The crowd was a strange bunch but not in a bad way. There were definitely a few older cougars just hanging out in the bar looking for fresh meat, which I found rather amusing. More than once, they brushed my shoulder while passing by my chair. There was a pool table in the back and I think it was $ 1 a game. It takes quarters I believe. There were already two big Mexican dudes playing and they, more or less, kept the pool table to themselves for most of the night we were there. We ordered some Bud Lights. They were $ 3 a pop, I think. They don’t have any taps. Also, they don’t have pitchers either. Just bottles. That’s disappointing but whatever. We made due with bottles. They have some eclectic pictures on the walls. Not sure what other word to use to describe it. There didn’t seem to be any particular theme. I believe they had 2 or 3 flat screen TV’s playing sports and one was just a normal channel with the cartoon American Guy playing. There were some cute Mexican girls that night that were hanging out at the bar but they felt out of place as we were as well since we all seemed to be the youngest bunch in the whole bar while everyone else were in their mid or late 30’s and 40’s. Would I come back here again? Only with the same friends I came with. I wouldn’t bring my other non-Mexican friends here. Let me put it this way: I was the only Asian person there. I felt out of place there but that didn’t bug me that much. It had just occurred to me at some point that I was the only Chinito there.

Methinks not is correct!!! Came here with the gal pal Jenna L. after a quick trip from Seal Beach. Just walked right in, say what?! Pool table in the back seems fun but in such a tight space it’s just waaaaaay inconvenient especially since it’s so close the bathrooms(which stunk…) But anyway, the crowd was just way to, let’s say, random for my liking. And unless you’re in a LARGE crowd, don’t go to the back for air. It’s a lot breezier but also sleezier. And to the very large cholo offering us menudo, thanks but no thanks, and please don’t stare at me when I tell you i DON’T have a lighter.

I used to go to this place alot a few years back, when I first popped in it was dead for a Saturday night, then I kept on swing by sober or drunk, then after going there instead of the P-Dub(The Powwow Saloon) No offence to that spot but sometimes you need a change of scenery, so a few peeople started noticing that I was show up at the P-dub on Sat they started asking me what was going on I told then nothing just found a new spot and needed the change, so they atrted showing up at the shuttle and found that it was a pretty good spot to chill at the owner was cool and the Bartender Wendy(I think thats her name) was smoking hot and very cool, the owner was very cool also he welcomed the extra bizz, we used to get that spot jumpin, I think I need to swing by and see whats crackin, its been a long time.

If you’re stuck in Downey and want to avoid the Anarchy Library crowd this is the spot! The people look intimidating and straight up transported from the ‘American Me’ flick. Overall everyone is welcoming and you wont find BS here or a girl to bring over to mom. Perks… Drinks: $ 3(reg price) crowd: wild characters ranging from men with ponytails and your typical veterana with crispy do’s and red fingernails mos def raider/dodger fans Jukebox: Great tunes ie Rolling Stones, k-earth oldies Bartender: Super friendly she offered her lighter and a cig. Cons… Cash only Location(Dwny cops love to patrol main streets)

You know this place ain’t so bad. The drinks are good. the crowd may be a little awkward, but seriously when you go with good company you’re bound to have a gnarly time. am i righ or am i right? I like chillin in the parking lot, drunk, running around and being loud. ‘w00t!’
