I have been here one other time with a friend and the food was actually delicious and I had a wonderful evening. That is why I was very excited to come here again with my husband for a very rare and much anticipated date night. I had reservations at another restaurant in Doylestown but once I called and was able to get a reservation here I canceled my other reservation. I called on Thursday for a Saturday reservation for two at 6pm and was thrilled to get it. However, after getting a babysitter and getting my 6 months pregnant and exhausted self all dolled up, not an easy thing, we get to the restaurant only to be told that they did not have a reservation under our name and they couldn’t seat us. That was bad enough but the woman who came out to tell us this news did not seem apologetic at all and went so far as to say she takes all the reservations and my name didn’t even sound familiar. I obviously know I made the reservation or I wouldn’t have gone so far as to cancel my other reservation, which I told this woman. I was turned off by her comment and the fact that she could not of cared les that she ruined one of last nights out with my husband before the baby is born. Anyone with kids knows, it is a rare and much anticipated thing to get a nice night out alone with your partner. Though I enjoyed time with my husband I was so disappointed that we ended up having s horrible meal at the only restaurant in Doylestown that could take us. Though I love the food here, I would hesitate to make another reservation on a weekend for fear of being turned away again.

I had always thought this was one of the bed restaurants in Doylestown — but last time I went I was super disappointed. The plates are small and over priced. We ordered the scallops which was 1 scallop and not a lot of rich creamy flavor that I like with my risotto. We also had the gnocchi which lacked that nice intense flavor — very bland. Although we didn’t get dessert — it probably would have been the best thing they served. Overpriced and over talked about for what you are getting.

The food was absolutely the best food I have had in Doylestown! Our waiter was very kind and made our experience such a pleasant one. Overall wonderful and I will be back for more.

As a local, this restaurant has been on my bucket list. Very cute ambiance in the old Rhodes Livery in the Ag Works building in town. And for a Wednesday night, hopping. I agree with other reviews about salad pricing, however, it was well done, very fresh and portion was generous. I also agree about the bread. With one of the best bread bakeries in the area, why aren’t they using Crossroads? Meager, nearly stale slices of baguette. Disapointing. Butter, delish, unsalted butter curls were yummy. I had the soup of the day, a celery root purée wiith a drizzle of truffle oil. Could have left that off as it really didn’t add to the flavor, which was sublte as a celery soup should be, nice touch with blanched & diced celery. I had my favorite French Bistro meal of Steak Frites. I felt like my steak was a tad over medium rare. I mentioned this to the owners’ wife and she immediately had an attitude, actually was quite rude. Hence the one star. If you don’t mind rude ownership who is not concerned about being polite to paying customers, you’ll be very happy you dined here. Our server was delightful, attentive and very professional. Off my bucket list, off my list altogether, and not becuse of the food.

Over priced small plates. Much lower quality than last visit. Overly oily scallops. And only 3 tiny scallops. Very corporate feel these fays

Slate Bleu delivers again! Wonderful, cozy atmosphere on a chilly rainy night. Staff is pleasant, efficient and accommodating. Food always rocks, definitely try the specials as well. Cocktails are crafted and wine and beer selection is well planned.

Dined here Labor Day Weekend. Beautiful dining room. Great ambiance. Started with mussels in white wine sauce. Sauce was light but tasty. Mussels were too small. Asked for bread as they do not bring this without asking. Bread was pretty mediocre. Tasted a little but of everything. I ordered a fresh fish special. Another guest had the skate — it was delicious and well prepared. The scallops were terrific. My spouse had the lamb sausage. It was dry but tasted good. My fish special was good, not exceptional. The salads were pretty good, not exceptional. The chocolate raspberry gâteau was really quite good. Overall we had a good meal. Enjoyed the setting. Service was pretty good although our waiter bordered on too assertive. Disappointments: bread — mediocre mussels — too small cost — salads at 13 to 14 dollars. And my fish special was more than twice the cost of everything else but it was not twice as big or twice as good. They should tell you the cost of specials. I was too shy to ask. The meal would have been better if at a better price.

Dining at the bar with Jared as your bartender is a 5 star experience. He’s an excellent craft cocktail maker and highly attentive. The food is pricey but excellent, and if you go on Wednesdays they give you a number of free appetizers at the bar.

Excellent real French food. Not typical for Doylestown. Beautiful restaurant. The Skate wing was like being in Paris. Lunch and dinner are both outstanding. This is an outing restaurant.

My experience actually happened a few years ago but I didn’t know about Unilocal at the time. I went to Slate Bleu for a work dinner. I ordered filet mingnon medium rare. One of my coworkers seated next to me also ordered the filet but she asked for medium well. When our steaks came out we both cut in to them and they were both cooked to the same temperature, a perfect medium well. So I politely told the waiter that my steak was over cooked. He rudely replied«that IS medium rare». Now being that I have worked in the food industry for years I know, and personally, would never speak to someone that way let alone a customer. So I then asked if he wouldn’t mind taking it back to the chef since it was over cooked(I also should add that I never complain but I HATE when my steak is over done). The waiter then brought me out another steak, 5 min later, that looked like it had been placed on the grill for a minute on each side. Needless to say the steak was basically raw. He then said to me «the chef said the other steak was med rare, but here’s another one for you anyway». There are so many things wrong with what just happened. First off you never speak to a customer that way, it doesn’t matter if the customer is wrong you want them to enjoy their meal. Second, how dare you insult my intelligence by telling me that my medium well steak(which when I cut into the middle had a small warm pink center) was medium rare(which has a cool red center)! I couldn’t even eat the steak at that point and asked for a box to take it home so I could cook it myself a little longer. The only reason I gave one star is because you have to pick one. I had such a bad experience that I will never go back and I tell everyone I can NOT to go there. I hope that waiter no longer works there as he is a detriment to that establishment.

I’ve been here numerous times throughout the years and it never disappoints. Chef’s daily specials are always delicious and well put together. The sorbets are made in house & change seasonally. I wish I could eat here all the time!

Sorry, I’m missing something that others seem to enjoy here. We found the food average, but very expensive for what you get. My wife ordered the bronzini special tonight. Wasn’t even the whole fish, just a single fillet for $ 30. I ordered the lobster bisque that was pretty flat tasting as was the saffron risotto that accompanied my chicken. Service was just average as was the $ 14 cocktail I ordered. I really don’t mind high prices as long as quality goes along with it, but in the case of Slate Blue, the dots just don’t connect.

Ok… this place is really pricey… but I have to say that my little family and I had a really nice first time experience with Slate Bleu and I was(and still am) very happy about that. My son really wanted to try it cause’ it sounded like a «French restaurant» and he is taking French this year in school. Granted it is not«French», it’s more«European» as there are also Italian dishes on the menu and, at times, even German ones that are not listed on the menu but available at times according to our server, Sienna. I have to say that the atmosphere was beautiful and cozy with pleasant music playing at just the right volume– not too soft that you couldn’t hear it, but not so loud that we couldn’t hear each other– and we had a speaker behind us right above us. The food had unusual but appealing flavors. We were first brought a basket of bread and butter. The bread was a combo of 2 different kinds and both were delicious. We shared the Cheese Plate as a starter(my son really wanted to sample them) and followed with soup. My son and I had the Vegetable Purée which was a nice, thick soup, was not a creamed soup which I was very happy about, because it was very healthy(they use potato to give it that consistency– smart– and much healthier that way!) and had a very light and pleasant flavor. They put beats in it which added a very appealing sweetness which complimented the flavor of the soup tremendously. My husband tried the French Onion. He enjoyed it. Then it was time for our entrees. My son and I tried the Poached Filet of Salmon. The fish was cooked to perfection– so very tender and delicious and the flavor combinations on the plate were very good. My son loved it! And I have to say, I enjoyed mine as well. My husband tried the Duck Parmentier and enjoyed every bite. We just had to get dessert to top off this lovely meal, so my son and I tried the Chocolate Raspberry Cake which is served with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream, fresh raspberries and a raspberry sauce for decoration. OMG!!! SOGOOD!!! And the cake(which had chocolate mousse inside) was not rich but rather light and refreshing! Great flavor!!! My husband tried the Crème Broulee and enjoyed it. He said it was very light and had a good flavor. On top of having enjoyed our food, we had excellent service as well. Sienna was very friendly and really knew the menu. She was more than happy to answer all of our questions regarding the food and really could not have treated us better. Yes, this was quite an expensive dinner and we would not go to Slate Bleu regularly– more like sporadically– but it’s nice to know that it is there when we are in the mood for a change from the places we frequent. That makes it that much more of a treat, too. We are very happy that we tried Slate Bleu. We had a very positive experience overall and we would encourage others to give it a try. It’s a good quality restaurant with good quality food and service. What more could you want???

This quickly became one of my favorite places to dine in Doylestown. It’s unique because of the French inspired menu, great wine and cocktail selection and even though it is tucked away, the atmosphere is really nice and even romantic. I’m surprised about the negative reviews as we have had a great time here whether it was a small or large party. Our last visit was during Doylestown Restaurant Week and we had the Pri Fix menu, which for me was perfect because I always struggle with making choices since their menu is loaded with great appetizers and entrees. It also a unique menu where you can really pick and choose from a variety of smaller plates; anything from duck to steak, gnocchi or fish, it’s all really just fantastic.

Many of my favorite restaurants in Doylestown are closed on Mondays, and so I ended up at Slate Bleu by way of default last evening. I have heard several mixed reviews, with the underlining theme that the food is over priced but the lovely ambiance helps to offset the splurge. After a complete tasting of 6 different menu items – hand selected, not pre-fix, I would have to agree that the food is not the highlight at Slate Bleu. I think that the cocktails, the classy Au Provence décor, and the service really carry this restaurant. The food was not nearly as expensive as I thought it might be, but I thought many of the dishes were lacking in flavor. They had all the right ingredients, but needed more umph! The thai mussels were made with coconut water instead of coconut milk, so they were very, very light. I asked for the steak au poivre at medium temperature, assuming it would be served at medium rare, provided that Slate Bleu is a French restaurant. Instead, it came to the table rather well done, with only a mere hint of pink in the very center. The escargot en croute were rich and garlicky, but again, lacking. The salad with figs, prosciutto, and blue cheese was delicious and so were the french fries served with the mussels. Unfortunately, the bread was a huge disappointment. It wasn’t served warm, and it was stale tasting. I would recommend going to sit at the bar and sharing a couple of small plates as a nice date night. I recommend the Bourbon St. Ginger, which has bourbon, ginger liquor, and st. germaine. I also LOVE the grapefruit martini, which is served with a scoop of sorbet!

Slate Bleu(Blue Slate) Restaurant is part of a very attractive adaptive reuse of an old brick 19th Century building in Doylestown. For that alone, the structure is worth a close look. The architect gets 5 Stars for adaptation and execution. The restaurant is Au Provence French style look and feel. Dark wood tones, center floor bar, and a quiet sensibility with white tablecloths, benches along the walls, and simple chairs. The bartender(owner?) serves as hostess and maître d., serving drinks to the tables after she makes them. A nice touch. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and unobtrusive. The dinner menu is not extensive, but covers all the food groups. The chef is creative and makes the effort to bring his best to his work. We had the Green Salad, Bronzino with a Fruit Salsa Sauce, and for dessert shared a Pistachio Soufflé. The salad was basically a fresh spring mix, but with a dressing that tasted weak in combination with the greens. The Bronzino(Mediterranean Sea Bass) was very well presented, light tasting with a tasty Mexican-esque fruit salsa combination piled high on the fillet. It was very enjoyable. It was a daily special @ $ 28 per. Finally, the Soufflé was made from scratch and came with a gravy boat full of hot chocolate for pouring into its center. While very light, fluffy and yummy, the $ 15. plus price was a chill to the digestion.(I knew in advance and decided to bite the silver bullet in favor of making my companion happy. You know how that is.) So, although Slate Bleu is an attractively appointed French/Country space, and the cuisine is very good for the most part, there is a sticker shock that accompanies the experience. While I would return, it will only be when I have a very special occasion. When a dinner for two comes in over the century mark without drinks, reservations about reservations are appropriate.

Confident on the recommendations from several Unilocalers, I led a group of friends to brunch at Slate Bleu on Sunday. The restaurant is very pretty and the guys noticed the awesome beer list right away. The French menu sounded great and we all had a hard time deciding on our meals. I was either going to go with French onion soup and a salad or something more breakfast-y. Our server said their version of the soup wasn’t very salty and the cheese was on the croutons. Isn’t the salt and cheese factor the best part of onion soup, though? I went with a gruyère and ham omelet instead. In the meantime, a round of coffee and bloody marys filled the table. The cocktails were okay, nothing special. A basket of pastries and some lemon curd and preserves were delivered. I loved this special touch. The mini croissants were excellent with some lemon curd. My omelet was tasty but the ham was very thick-cut, like a ham steak, which didn’t really make sense for an omelet. I ate a few bites but stuck mostly to the egg and cheese. I ordered a side of potatoes for an extra five dollars and the potato was a very small hashbrown-type thing. It was good but not worth the extra money. All in all, this was a nice brunch but definitely on the pricey side given the quality/quantity of the meal and compared to what we are used to in Philly. I’d consider going back to Slate Bleu for drinks or small plates, but I probably would look elsewhere for brunch
