It is an exercise in duality. Drinks are very tasty, bartender a pompous ass.(owners boyfriend, so he is, for now, permanent.) Food, some really good, some mediocre. Prices high for what you get. Service is always just fine, never amazing… never bad. Cute little place… but hard to get away from the live music on the porch, which is usually not very good. Will I go back? Yeah… but don’t sit at the bar. That guy is an butt-ratchet.

Homespun is one of a few places in Dripping with quality new American style farm to table fare. our family loves the backyard kids play area and the generous kids plate portions! great happy hour specials and high quality eats throughout the menu.

Since this is a new restaurant, I will cut them a little slack on the service. It was a little slow but they did have a big party inside while we were outside. The server also mentioned that she was new but all things considered, she did a commendable job. The Mextinis were really good but a little pricey at $ 12 a piece. The food was fresh and good. My only complaint was the band they had chosen — because they thought they were 1970’s era rock stars with the cranked volume, the 15 minute solos, and out of tune vocals. Literally, the guy next to us had to stuff his napkin in his ears to endure the«music». I asked to move but they didn’t have other tables available. The hostess eventually turned the speaker completely away from us and the host asked if we wanted to move after we had paid our bill. All in all, I give them an average rating until they learn to tell the band to take it down a notch or two and work through faster service when they are busy. Would I go back… That’s debatable. I suppose I would return if they ditch the arena rock band and I not drink a cocktail. I returned 4 months later to find more live music but now at a tolerable volume — the Septuagenarian even covered Lorde’s Royals«awesome!» the deviled eggs were extraordinary, the queso was quite scrumptious, and the chicken fried steak still mouth watering. The service was great this time on Saturday afternoon. All in all, I upped this restaurant to 4 stars. A definite must if you are in Dripping Springs.

Stopped by on a whim on the drive from Houston to Fredericksburg. Great little place! The Cubano press sandwich was awesome and huge. My wife had the Skillet Mac and Cheese with steak added. It was an app but plenty for a meal. She loved it. They have a pretty extensive beer, wine and cocktail menu as well. Highly recommend this little place!

I visit Homespun 3+ times a week. I usually have a special once a week and mix up the lighter fare other visits. I have never had a bad meal. I am a 35+ years restaurateur that understands the difficulty of operating a nice establishment in an area where there is little to no experienced help. Homespun seems to be able to stay ahead of the curve in spite of the difficulty of finding good help. I prefer the intimacy of the tiny bar. As for SAMT’s review, to each his own on the food review. However, if you have a problem with a neighbor that just happens to own the restaurant, call the Hays Sheriff! Don’t air your dirty laundry on Unilocal about his business. That has nothing to do with the business. It is jerks like you that give Unilocal an unfair review advantage for reasons outside the business. I liken this to the disgruntled employee reviews. ‘Tis the season! HAPPYNEWYEAR!!! SAMT!!! BANGPOPSIZZZZZLLLEWHEEEEENPOW!!!

How many Homespun employees does it take to make a chicken salad sandwich? I don’t know because the 4 or 5 people milling about, in and out of the kitchen, in an otherwise totally empty dining room couldn’t get it done. How long does it take to make a chicken salad sandwich? I don’t know because after 45 minutes, we got up and left. Why does someone come out of the kitchen with a rubber glove on one hand, go into the bathroom and come out a few minutes later still wearing the same rubber glove on the same hand? I do not want to think about what that implies. We first tried this place right after it opened and it was a disaster of fumbling screw-ups and mediocre food. We decided to try it again yesterday. When you and your wife are the only people in the dining room and you place a simple sandwich order which should take only 10 minutes, being ignored for 45 minutes is RUDE and unacceptable in the restaurant business. After 45 minutes, we heard from the kitchen, «Where’s the chicken salad?» As we walked out, we heard these words of amazement from the kitchen, «They walked out?» Yes, dummy, we walked out.

This was a fantastic surprise! We were going to another place in Dripping Springs and saw the open sign here. Chef Mike whipped up a special Elk burger which we split. It was absolutely incredible! Katie our waitress was so attentive and accommodating. We will, most definitely, be back. I wish I could give this dining experience more stars!

Good, but«cheap» atmosphere. GREAT alcohol selection. When they first opened, the food was terrible. They’ve definitely turned it around, and most of the dishes are really good. Their pricing is way off though. I paid $ 14 for a shrimp po-boy sandwich that wouldn’t even rival one made by Popeye’s. Food is definitely NOT worth their pricing.

Even the Biblical floods that have ripped through Dripping Springs can’t keep Homespun down! They were flooded in the last round of Old Testament weather but worked around the clock and re-opened last night. We were there. And it was all good! They are easy to find on Mercer Street, and have a good sized parking lot that was dry even in the rain we drove there in. The bartender who was also an owner was friendly and happy and started the evening out on a good note. The dining room is smallish but not over filled with tables so it seemed more open. They have a nice craft cocktail menu. ML had a gin & blueberry drink that she raved about. I had a perfectly prepared Manhattan, and our dinner pals had martinis and G&Ts and all were really well made. We had the deviled eggs for apps as well as the queso and both were good. I like the Deviled eggs as apps idea, by the way! I had the chicken schnitzel, ML had the hot dog, Pal 1 had the chicken fried steak and pal 2 had the burger. I’d rate the food as very good to great. Everybody loved what they had. I’d say the schnitzel could have used a tad more seasoning but I’ve just started not dumping tons of salt on my food so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt on that one. The total for dinner for 4, with 2 drinks each, 2 apps &2 desserts was $ 230 plus tip. You can’t beat that price for this kind of service and food! The staff must have been dead tired from working to reopen so quickly but everyone was smiling and peppy during our visit. And the live band on the front patio was great too. This place is close, great and priced competitively. They have live music almost every day and a nice patio to chill on. I see HH here coming soon!

wow. They pulled out all the stops for us! My sister is looking for a place to host her rehearsal dinner(Another place cancelled on her last minute!!!) So, me, my sister and her fiancé decided to check this place out as a possible replacement. We were floored by the exceptional service and attentiveness. The coctail selection was beyond amazing. As a group we tried 6 different drinks and loved them all. Be careful with the spicy jalepeno coctail… that is not a lame rendition, they mean business. It is SPICY. Our food was cooked just right. We especially enjoyed the shrimp and grits, crab cakes, and devilled eggs. Live music was playing outside on a Friday night, 2 patio options(front and back) and yes home grown proven bc I watched the owner pick herbs from the restaurant’s own garden. Totally impressed by this place and can’t wait to party here to celebrate my sister’s wedding to her wonderful future-husband. We’ll be back soon!

3.5 stars Great atmosphere, service was excellent. I’d love to give it more stars, but it’s just really expensive. We ordered the Queso without pulled pork and it was pretty good. It has guac in it, which is a nice addition, but I prefer the white cheese used in Kerbey queso. My husband enjoyed his Fish Tacos, which were on special. It was tasty and both tacos were large, but $ 16 is a little overpriced. Maybe I’m spoiled because I’m used to very cheap fish tacos. We also shared the Wedge Salad, which had a nice amount of bleu cheese and tangy dressing.

Food is good. Drinks are too expensive. Food is too expensive for what it is. Kids play area has NO shade for seating. Kids menu is too expensive and not a lot to choose from.

Went here to try to grab a quick breakfast before church and food was OK, probably 3 stars, but service was beyond slow and inefficient — it took the waitress about 3 tries to get our order right! My wife ordered the mercer street benedict and that was actually pretty good — based on that alone and with good service I might give them 4 stars, but the basic breakfast I ordered was unremarkable, and we ordered a kids breakfast for my son but got charged full price. I do have to give them kudos for having a playground out back, very family friendly, but they need to step up their game in terms of service. Also their bloody marys looked delicious, I really wanted to try one but I was trying to make it to church!

Mr. Smidgens in Dripping Springs? You bet! I had the pleasure of eating at HSKB during the Dripping Springs Songwriter Festival back in October. My songbird and I shared the chicken fried steak with garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed green beans. I have to say, this was the best cfs I have had in a long time! We would make the drive to DS just for this. The cream gravy is made in house and adds another dimension to this«Big Bite» on their menu. Randy and Jennifer are very personable owners and they are headed in the right direction with their restaurant/bar. They have hired a new chef and new staff to help them fulfill their dream of running a flourishing business! We went back because my lovely songbird was playing on a Friday night. We were treated to a wonderful sesame seared ahi tuna with a seaweed salad«small bite» that brought back memories of being on the Big Island in Hawaii! It was sooooo good that I ordered two more for us! I had started off with a Macallen 12 on the rocks and decided to switch to the Suntori Yamazaki Scotch. It paired well with the ahi. Randy and Jennifer have quite the selection of fine spirits. Mr. Smidgens recommends you pay them a visit just for that! They have live music on Friday and Saturday with great food Tuesday through Sunday. Like them on FB and follow them on Twitter! Now! Go!

Ol’ Rooster here with the Drippin’ dining report. Since things happen at a different pace out here in the country I report when its actually news worthy. Yep, Homespun Kitchen and Bar has taken over for Café 131. A few months in I visited waiting for the staff to smooth out the issues and hopefully come back with a good showing. The evening for me started with the classic margarita. Something that the previous incarnations of this space couldn’t get going, Homespun has a full bar! Quality tequila paired with local Paula’s Orange Liqueur was smooth without a tart finish. Bread service followed by deviled eggs as our appetizer. It seems this holiday and family reunion favorite has finally made to menus around the area. Thing is sometimes you can’t compete with home cooking despite the effort put forth in the kitchen. Home made staples take an extraordinary hand to replicate let alone to elevate. The eggs were a bit of a miss for me pairing bacon and pickled jalapeño slices. Not a huge deal breaker; at 75 cents a piece it was good value. I’ve written this before about numerous BBQ restaurants; nobody serves your mama’s potato salad so how do realistically rate the sides? I guess that category now includes deviled eggs too. Onto my entrée the Mercer Street Tomahawk Pork Chop. Resembling Captain America’s shield with a Frenched bone sticking out of it; it was my personal highlight of the evening. The chop cooked perfectly… and I mean perfectly medium served with Bubble and Squeak, roasted carrots, and an apple demi-glacé. I swore I wouldn’t eat the entire 1lb chop and I did. Service was phenomenal. Corey tended to our every whim that my dining companions threw at him. As for the overall feel lunch prices are on track with the rest of the town. Dinner prices can quickly hit the upscale tier depending on your choice while including Texas favorites like chicken fried steak made in house for a few bucks more than the competitor down the road that just takes it out of a food service box. Drippin, we’re making progress!
