YMCA of Austin – Springs Family Branch

This gym is run down, dilapidated and filthy. The front desk staff never knows what is going on. The Y has owned the property for SEVEN years and still has done nothing with it but count their money. The hours are unaccommodating, closes early, opens at NOON on Sundays??? The weight room is TINY, the cardio machines are FEW. I spoke to the CEO about it and he said they were «planning to update it in 2016». Yeah right! Not to mention he was rude and unapologetic. I am soliciting other gyms to open up out here in Drip. We deserve to have the caliber of gyms offered in Austin. If the Y weren’t the only game in town (I don’t count Anytime fitness), I would NOT give them my money. They know they have a lock which is why they won’t even clean the place. They will get their a** in gear when competition presents itself. Wish me luck! BOOOOO YMCA in DS!!!

I love this YMCA! The childcare facility is very clean and spacious. They have a seperate area for the babies which is nice because then I don’t have to worry about my baby getting trampled on by bigger kids or picking up a smaller toy and possibly choking on it. Elaine runs the childcare center and she seems like a very kind and warm women so I feel like my little ones are in good hands when I drop them off.
I think the cardio equipment is really nice. The treadmills each have their own touchscreen television. The gym is nice and cool with air conditioning blasting.
The staff is always really upbeat and polite. The director introduced himself to me on our first day at the gym and he makes it a point to say hi to me and ask how my experience is every time I see him (which seems to be everytime that i’m at the gym).
I’m really impressed with Ms. Lauren, my children’s swim instructor. My kids have learned so much this summer by being in her class. She makes learning to swim a very fun experience and my kids are always very happy to see her! They’ve really improved their swimming skills in a very short amount of time. The swim lessons seem to be very inexpensive compared to a lot of other places in the area. It only costs $ 50 a month for eight 40 minute lessons (if you are a YMCA membee.

If you have kids and plan to use this as your daycare center, this could work for you. If you only plan to use the workout machines and weights, they charge waaay too much. Most of the machines are over 10 years old are always breaking down, once a TV quits working, they never fix it. If you want to shower, you have to walk across the parking lot to another building. People that want to do floor work use the dirty mats and place them between all the machines, because there is no other place for those workouts. They have no rules against people yacking on their cell phones doing business right next to you. No dress code, so it’s OK to wear your halter top, stinking dirty sweat shirt with the sleeves ripped off, overalls, or jeans with suspenders. Once a real gym moves into Dripping Springs, I will join the first day of business and leave this dump.

Overall it’s a pretty friendly place with a nice small town feel. The child care is better than more expensive places, it seems that they take an interest in the children rather than just treat it as a job.
The basketball gym however is 3^rd world. They haven’t resurfaced the floor in ages, it’s has about as much traction as a hockey rink. You can’t even cut or make any moves without sliding all over the place.
Would give it a much higher rating if they’d address the floor, those of us who play have mentioned it many times, with no results.

Erin is an excellent trainer and extremely knowledgeable. As an older female I feel very safe and in really good hands with her. I highly recommend Erin as a trainer at the Dripping Springs YMCA!!!

Some of the nicest people. Great facilities. Abundant programs.
The YMCA is a fantastic place to plug into the community.
Great way to involve family in your fitness!

Sonya teaches a great power yoga class on Saturday mornings that will kick your ass and fill your soul. Great combination of power, effort and energy. She mixes it up with traditional yoga-​type music, light rock and the oldies.
